3. The main image of the poster has a pale women's face and a hand
covering her mouth. Generally grey and paleness have convey
connotations of death or that something is dying, which could
necessarily be a death flag within the very poster of the film
alerting the audience. To continue from this the women is also
making direct address with the audience (done by looking directly
into the lens) this conveys a disturbing feeling of tension, distress
and suspense while looking at the poster. Also the females left eye
seems to be glaring at something else while the right eye is
predominately focused on the audience which conveys disturbance
within the narrative. Her eyes are actually blue however due to the
black and white effect of the poster it makes her eyes the main
focal point of the poster that catches people, as the blue in her eyes
seem to be fading away this can also convey the connotations of
blue which is safety peace freedom however its fading so this
woman is most likely losing these aspects of her life. Also there is
Juxtaposition between the face and the whole poster as everything
is covered in darkness which means that there is no hope however
her eyes see hope. Along with this her lips have some little colour
left within them which is a dark red which has connotations to
death and blood linking back to the narrative of the poster and
4. • Furthermore the title of the film is called 'Scream' is in block capitals which makes it one
of the most predominate factors of the poster. The woman tries to scream but her mouth
is then covered by a hand, the camera angle this was shot in was a close up which puts
the audience in an uncomfortable position being this close to someone's face which
actually allows the image to show her distress. The title and the main image bounce off
of each other well as they don't feel displaced or in any case don't belong to the same
worlds, even with the letter 'M' the peak of the 'M' is lowered to represent the look of a
blade which further signifies the genre of this poster. Further more the more frightening
thing about this poster is that the hand actually covering her mouth could generally be
her(s) or someone else and that suspense factor is what drives people to watch these
movies with a sense of unknowing.
