1. Fire Evacuation Information (FIKE)
In the event of an evacuation from Fike, employees should abide by the following protocol for
primary and secondary egress points, as well as holding locations after evacuating the facility:

of this manual.)
Area 1: Entrance (Main Lobby, Welcome Center, CRC, all levels of Offices)
o Primary Egress Doors: Main Entrance Doors, Side Stairwell Entrance Doors
o Secondary Egress Doors: Main Gym Doors, Club Gym Doors
o Holding Location: Lower IM Fields
Area 2: Upper Atrium (Track, MPR, Cardio Hallway)
o Primary Egress Doors: Main Entrance Doors, Side Stairwell Entrance Doors
o Secondary Egress Doors: Main Gym Doors, Club Gym Doors
o Holding Location: Lower IM Fields
Area 3: Lower Atrium (Free Weights, Pin-Select, Lunge/Strength Hallway)
o Primary Egress Doors: Main Gym Doors, Club Gym Doors
o Secondary Egress Doors: Main Entrance Doors, Side Stairwell Entrance Doors

Area 4: Main Gym Courts

During an evacuation, all Fike Employees will take direction from the Recreation Supervisor
on duty. Additionally, the Welcome Center will make the following announcement:
Fike Patrons, due to an emergency please evacuate the building at the nearest
available exit immediately and proceed to the Upper or Lower Intramural Fields. Please
cooperate with staff during this evacuation, and wait further direction once you reach
the Upper or Lower Intramural Fields.
DO NOT REENTER THE FACILITY UNTIL DIRECTED BY EMERGENCY PERSONNEL.

Fire Emergencies
Response to fire alarms
When an alarm sounds, leave the building immediately. Never assume it is a false
alarm.
Do not use elevators.
Do not return for personal belongings.
Help people who are unfamiliar with the building or people with disabilities escape the
building.
If you discover smoke or fire
If it is safe to do so, get everyone from immediate danger and close the door to the
area to confine the smoke and fire.
Pull the building fire alarm along your evacuation route.
If the fire is small and you are properly trained, control the fire with available
firefighting equipment.
Before you go through a door to leave a room, feel the door with your hand. Do not
open any door that feels hot.
If there is smoke, stay low.
Use stairs to reach an exit floor. Do not use elevators.
After you are out of danger, call 911.
