2. The city of the future I envision…
Will be shaped by the digitalization and connection of everything, effectively
creating time by automating much of life and maximizing the efficiency of
everything we do. The data will be the most important factor in the smart city and
it will come from city’s agencies, citizens contributing crowdsourced data and IoT
devices installed in different devices, vehicles, building infrastructure, etc. All of
these innovations should be aligned and contribute to the development indicators
& goals1.
I consider the major improvements will be in the following areas:
1
2
3
4
Health & Education Environment
Public Safety Transportation

3. • Digital Health. Greater access to
health information, use of wearables
to monitor patients and improve life
expectancy focusing on preventive
treatments.
Non-invasive monitoring wearables
(diabetes, heart, temperature, sleep,
breathing, etc.)
VR for healthcare (remote assistance,
training, psychology treatments for
phobias, depression, PTSD)
Real-time data, analytics and patient
engagement to predict and prevent
diseases.
Nanobots2
• Education. Emerging technologies like
Virtual/Augmented reality and data
analytics will enable cities to deliver
education beyond the classroom
allowing higher impact and better
coverage.

4. By 2040, computing will need more
electricity than the world can
produce according with ITRS3.
Improvements in green/renewable
energy generation and storage will
be necesary. Governments are
offering programs to facilitate the
transition to this new model and
solutions are getting more
affordable.

5. Advance data analytics and
Artificial intelligence will be able to
respond to threats before they
happen. Data will come from city’s
agencies, citizens contributing
crowdsourced data and IoT
devices installed in different
devices, vehicles, drones, building
infrastructure, etc.
Also solutions that can provides
surveillance at low cost will be
critical to accelerate its adoption. 6

6. New ways of transportation
within /between cities:
• Facilitate to citizens
access to job opportunities
and enable new hubs for
companies to offer their
products. In development
countries this solutions
demostrated great benefits
to the cities in terms
economic growth and
security. 7
• Solutions like the
Hyperloop would improve
commuting time between
cities that are less than
900 miles apart.8
