1. Institution Research
This shows a list of the top
horror movies up till 2014, and
the film in the lead is 7 years
old, purely because of the age
restriction and the main actor
in the film
Will Smith (the main actor in I
am Legend) is probably the
main reason the film did so
well. He is an extremely famous
actor as has lots of fans at any
age above 12 who enjoy the
films that he stars in.
This film was rated a PG 13,
this will of also boosted the total gross income as more people qualify to watch
the film, as more age groups are available to watch a specific film,
The movie franchise ‘Scream’
is very popular amongst
people as three of the films
are in the top 25 movies,
purely because the film
before the sequel ‘Scream’
must have done well, so by
bringing out a sequel to the
first hit movie is a lot safer
than relying on a specific new
film being a hit because the
first film was successful.
The following film shows the
top grossing films from the
production company ‘Warner
Brothers’ which happen to
produce ‘I am Legend’ the leader of the previous screenshot, I discussed that the
actor was the main reason for the success of the film, but this screenshot
portrays other films from the same company doing just as well in the total gross,
this implies that ‘Warner Brothers’ are a well known and trusted company when
it comes to making a successful film.
This
screenshot
implies how
popular the
2. genre ‘Horror’ was over a 19-year period, some years were more popular for
horror than others; these results are often influenced by the quality of horror
film that gets released that year.
Some films are more successful than others, and this is clearly shown in the
screenshot above by how many tickets were sold to horror films in that specific
year, 2007 is the peak point for horror movies.
In the first screenshot the hit movie ‘I am Legend’ is specified as a horror film,
and that is in first place on the top gross in the Horror movie section, this clearly
implies how much the single film by ‘Warner Brothers’ influenced ticket sales in
that period of time.
The other reason the 2007 peak is so high is the fact that, multiple horror films
were produced in 2007, this means that more tickets can be sold and the further
the peak rises with ticket sales for horror movies in that year.
So to conclude my research, it takes more than one film or one actor to influence
and change the ticket statistics for a specific year.
As the screenshot clearly portrays, 2014 (present day) is at an all-time low point
for ticket sales in the Horror genre, this is heavily influenced by the amount of
horror films released this year, the first screenshot and the most recent one both
show how unpopular horror films are currently.
This
screenshot
proves the
point that
Horror films
released in
2014 are not
selling as
many tickets
as the
previous
year.
This can all
be related to the other genres of film released that year because if a world
hit/record breaking movie begins to trend around the world, nobody would be
interested in the horror films, as all of the attention would be based on the hit
movie.
Similar movie distributors tend to be at the top of the list on most of the genres,
this proves how dominant 1 or 2 specific distributors are over the rest of them.
‘Warner Bros’ appears in the top end of the list on all occasions, this proves how
popular they are, even in an all time low in ticket sales in a year, ‘Warner Bros’
still manages to get the majority of the years ticket sales and produce the ‘best’
2014 horror movie.
