• Refers to the materials which are used by
an artist. It is the means by which he
communicates his ideas.
• Many mediums have been used in creating
different works of arts .
• Medium is very essential to art.
3. PAINTING
• Is the art of creating meaningful effects on a flat surface
by the use of pigments.
TWO METHODS OF PAINTING IN OIL
A.direct method - the paint are applied to the
surface just as they look in the finished product.
B. Indirect methods - the paint applied is applied in many
thin layers of transparent color.
5. SCULPTURE
• In choosing a subject for sculpture ,the most important
things to consider is the material.
• the substances available for sculpture are limitless
.some of the earliest sculpture were made of bone or
wood .
• Modern sculptors use a variety of materials for their
work.
6. TWO MAJOR SCULPTURE PROCESSES
USED :
• Subtractive - it is a process in which the unwanted
material is cut away.
• Additive - it is the construction of a figure by putting
together bits of clay or by welding together parts of
metals.
7. TWO TYPES OF SCULPTURE
• relief - refers to the figure which are attached to a
ground.
• free standing - it can be seen from all sides .
9. ARCHITECTURE
• Is an art. It is the art of designing and constructing
a building .it is also definition functional.
• One of the primary purposes of architecture is to
fullfill a need that led to its creation.
• It must also addressed the future, providing for
adaptability and the capacity to survive the loss of
its original function.
10. THREE BASIC CONSTRUCTION TYPES IN
ARCHITECTURE;
• POST -AND- LINTEL - is the earliest of the three ,it consists
of two vertical posts support (post) and a horizontal one
(lintel).
• ARCH - is dominant in roman architecture. It is an
architectural form built from pieces of wood called
voussoirs with joints between them and arrange in a
semicircle .
• CANTILEVER - is any structural part projecting horizontally
and anchored at one end only.this method of construction
needs a beam with a great tensile strength that can be
securely fastened at the supported end.
