  2. 2. WHAT IS SCULPTURE? It is the art of carving wood, chiseling stone, casting or welding metal, modeling clay or wax into three dimensional representations such as figures, statues, forms, etc.
  3. 3. TYPES OF SCULPTURE The Relief Sculpture refers to figures which are attached to flat background. A coin is a good example is a good example of this.
  4. 4. TYPES OF SCULPTUREA Free-Standing Sculpture is a figure that can be seen all sides of it. Most common type.
  5. 5. Functions of Sculpture To great extent, religion has made use of sculpture. Instructional purposes. Commemoration of heroes. Minting of coins.
  6. 6. Materials Used in Sculpture Marble is a kind of stone which is durable. Bronze is the most common metal used in sculpture. Wood is cheap, available, and easy to cut. Ivory are used for small carvings like crosses, chess pieces, and small heads of small statues of saints.
  7. 7. Materials Used in Sculpture Terra cotta means baked earth. In the Philippines, other media used are bamboo, adobe, coral, and plaster.
