Assistant Resident Engineer for this $42,594,095 contract in the City of Port
Republic and Galloway Township, Atlantic County, involved the widening of
the Garden State Parkway mainline to add a third travel lane in each
direction, including the rehabilitation and extension of two (2) existing bridges,
installation of missing ramp movements at Int. 44, relocation of existing
utilities and the extension of existing stormwater management facilities.
Construction Items Included: 184K CY of Earth Work, 42K SY of Recharge
Swales, 166K Lbs. of Reinforcing Steel, 7.5K LF Driven Piles, 6.4K SF of
Sheet Piling, 390 LF Drilled Shaft Foundations, 10 Structural Steel Cantilever

This $243,828,500.00 project involves the widening and improvements of a
35 mile section of limited access high speed roadway with the construction of
70 additional lane miles and shoulders as well as construction of new bridge
structures and rehabilitation of existing bridge structures and improvements to
interchanges and toll facilities. Extensive stormwater management facilities
and relocation of existing utilities within environmentally sensitive areas are
included as well.
Traffic Control Coordinator duties included the review of all daily lane
closure requests by contractors working within the project limits to resolve
conflicts within scheduling as well as daily patrol and monitoring of
Maintenance and Protection of Traffic with detailed documentation of
deficiencies and required corrective action.

This $83,800,000.00 contract in the City of Port Republic, Atlantic County,
Township of Bass River, Burlington County involves the widening of the
Garden State Parkway mainline to add a third travel lane in each direction,
including the construction of 2 new bridges, the removal of 2 existing bridges,
the rehabilitation of 1 bridge, and the extension of existing culverts.
Construction Items Include: 20,500 sf MSE Walls, 14,100 cy Ready Mix

This $74,500,000.00 contract in Eagleswood, Little Egg Harbor, and Stafford
Townships in Ocean County, New Jersey involves the widening of the Garden
State Parkway mainline to add a third travel lane in each direction, including
the construction of 4 new bridges, the removal of 4 existing bridges, the
rehabilitation of 2 bridges, the construction of 2 new culverts, and the
extension of existing culverts. The project also includes 7 new sign structures,
2 signalized intersections, drainage improvements, recharge swales, signing,
delineations, lighting, maintenance and protection of traffic, and other
miscellaneous work necessary and incidental to the completion of the project,
all as described in the specifications and as shown on the plans.
Contract No. P200.140, Drainage Structures and Grading Improvements,
Milepost 30.2 to 47.3
This $11,700,000.00 contract involves the placement of fill within wetland
areas, widening of 2 existing bridges, the extension of 10 existing culverts,
and the reconstruction of the headwalls on 2 culverts. The project also
includes drainage improvements, maintenance and protection of traffic, and
other miscellaneous work
NJDOT – 2011 Electrical Maintenance Support - 08/2011 - 01/2012
This $500,000.00 project provided the replacement of LED modules at
signalized intersections along various routes within the NJDOT Central Region.
Mr. Hermann’s responsible included:
 Troubleshooting of electrical systems when problematic conditions were
encountered and replacement of hardware and components such as
visors, internal connections and terminals etc.
 Inspection duties included measuring, calculating, verification,
documentation and daily reporting of contract line Items within agency
formats with submission to the project engineer; work zone safety and
temporary traffic control measures; and conducting of prevailing wage rate
interviews.
 Interfacing with and coordinating scheduling and operations with the New
Jersey State Police Construction Unit as well as making notification to the
NJDOT Maintenance Department Central Dispatch Unit as to the
contractor’s scheduling and requests for assistance when operational
difficulties occurred.

New Jersey Transit Authority – Lindenwold Station Renovations –

This $1.5M Light-Rail Project for provided for major structural renovations to
existing passenger platforms and shelters along with enhancements to security
systems and utilities within pedestrian tunnels and bridges at an existing and
functioning light-rail hub facilitating two separate lines owned and operated by
NJ Transit and PATCO. Mr. Herrmann’s duties included:
 Oversight of QC/QA Inspection work performed by subordinate staff
members and functioning as Acting Resident Engineer in the absence of
the full-time Resident Engineer.
 Interfaced and coordinated operations with contractors, utility owners and
other shared usage/interest parties such as NJ Transit, PATCO and
Atlantic City Electric.
 Oversight of general site safety with an emphasis on worker safety in
proximity to live electrical systems and operational rail facilities, as well as
maintaining consistently safe conditions throughout the limits of the work
site for the passage of the traveling public.
 Attended and participated in project meetings with input as to field
modifications and alternation to design.
 Construction items included reinforced concrete spread footings, micro-
piles, structural steel framing members, surveillance/security system
cameras and controllers and a variety of prefabricated architectural
components.

NJ Turnpike Authority – GSP Widening Interchange 63 to 80 - Milepost
70.0 to 75.0, 07/2010 to 07/2011
This $31.3M Project provided for the construction of additional lanes and
shoulders totaling thirty (30) lane/shoulder miles of new construction along with
thirty (30) lane miles of reconstructed existing roadway. Modifications to one
(1) grade separated interchange with ramps and tolls in both the northbound
and southbound directions was included within the scope of work as well as the
challenges of interfacing and coordinating work with “sister projects” to the
immediate north and south of the limits of this project. Two (2) existing concrete
bridge structures were demolished and replaced with wider and improved pre-
stressed concrete box-beam structures and high performance concrete decks
and slabs upon cast-in-place concrete piles. The work associated with the
bridge structures included:
 Review and monitoring of demolition and erection plans for two (2) newly
constructed bridge structures.
 Foundation excavation adjacent to and/or within environmentally sensitive
areas.
 Extensive and complicated dewatering work.
 Construction, setting and monitoring of formwork and reinforcing steel,
cast-in-place concrete piles, cast-in-place reinforced concrete foundations

and abutments, substructure membrane waterproofing, pre-stressed
concrete box beams, elastomeric bearings, epoxy coated reinforcing steel,
as well as high performance concrete parapets, decks and slabs with
concrete penetrating sealer treatment.
 Additional structural work included six (6) existing culverts retrofitted and
extended with precast and cast-in-place reinforced-concrete box culverts
along with headwalls, end-walls and wing-walls all being constructed with
extensive dewatering techniques and materials such as; well-points, coffer
dams, diversions, bypass pumps and temporary and permanent steel
sheeting.
 Site improvements included grading and surface drainage, recharge
swales/infiltration basins and drainage structures; full-depth roadway
construction as well as profile milling and resurfacing of the existing
pavement utilizing various job-mix formulas and paving techniques to
accommodate redesigned slopes and grades to facilitate widening;
cantilever-sign-support-structures and overhead-span-sign-structures
utilizing drilled-shaft foundations along with newly installed and relocated
ground mounted sign structures and roadway appurtenances such as;
beam guiderail, concrete barrier, delineators, rumble strip, signing, striping;
all as included in the 133 Construction Contract Line Items.
 Observation of contract work so as to ensure consistency and conformance
with contract drawings, project specifications and industry standards.
 Oversight of subordinate inspection staff, monitoring of technicians
performing in-situ materials testing and daily field measuring, calculating,
verifying, documenting and reporting of contract work utilizing various
computer programs for submittal to the Resident Engineer Supervisory
responsibilities during the overnight shift, i.e. monitoring overall site safety
conditions, coordinating with contractor and police for work zone traffic
control per NJTA and MUTCD standards.
 Assistance with office work, i.e. review of daily reports, as-built review and

$7.4M project, including field measuring, calculating, verification,

system provides for the replacement and repair of steel beam guiderail
components along the GSP Northbound and Southbound mainline roadway,

re-establishment of the Clear Zone adjacent to the NJ Turnpike and Garden
State Parkway roadways, as well as the installation of Chain Link Fence to
secure the Authority's Right-of-Way.
 Other areas of responsibility included inspection and reporting to the
Resident Engineer of maintenance and protection of traffic, general work
zone safety, verification of utility mark-out work, oversight of work within
proximity to existing utility systems and prevailing wage interviews of

Highway Construction Inspector for this $4.5M federally funded project. Mr.
Herrmann’s responsibilities included:
 Oversight of all materials and work, field measuring, calculating,
verification, documentation and daily reporting of all pay items to the
Resident Engineer including temporary traffic control measures, general
work zone safety, removal and replacement work of existing long-life
thermoplastic traffic markings, epoxy long-line markings and RPMs,
preparation of punch-list reports and office works including review of daily
reports, contractors invoices and as-built quantities.

Inspector whose responsibilities included inspection of all on-site
improvements, as well as all improvements within the NJDOT right of way as
coordinated with and overseen by NJDOT Field Representative. Jim’s work on
this project included:
 Maintenance & protection of traffic, storm drainage improvements.
 Excavation adjacent to existing underground and overhead utilities, and
connection to existing underground utilities such as wet-tap connections
and core-drilling of existing structures, construction of concrete curbing,
pavement widening & restoration, striping, signage & landscaping.

Modifications to one (1) grade separated interchange with ramps and tolls in both the northbound and southbound directions was included within the scope of work as well as the challenges of interfacing and coordinating work with “sister projects” to the immediate north and south of the limits of this project. Two (2) existing concrete bridge structures were demolished and replaced with wider and improved pre- stressed concrete box-beam structures and high performance concrete decks and slabs upon cast-in-place concrete piles.
