49. Conclusion
This market is not well served
Be prepared to do lots of extra work and
customisation
Hopefully our patterns might serve to inspire a new
generation of courseware products
8. Optional anonymity - Encourage real identities, but allow opt-out - should be able to post anonymously
9. A la carte - Even short learning objects should be catalogue-able - cataloguing metadata for all discrete learning objects - make metadata accessible and searchable by the user
10. ID please - Identify on-screen elements with codes, names and icons
11. Mix and match - Support composeable learning objects - system supported composition includes e.g. aggregating up completion
We created a platform specifically to support these kinds of designs

So how does Blackboard go?
Implementation patterns trial
Hired a contract Blackboard developer to redevelop a course in Blackboard
We provided them with the content and the patterns, but did not mandate the layout or UI
Vanilla Blackboard Learn 9.1 sp10
No custom code or plugins
Full details of how the course was built are available on our website
As is a video walkthrough of the finished course
Thank you to Blackboard Australia for providing a hosted instance for this project
An angel on my shoulder
statically published
could get hard to maintain
not state based
not personalised
Therefore possibly not as convincing
missing from some screens
Also some quiz states where no messaging is available
but still valuable
Small steps - OK except sequencing only partially supported
Give us the tools
No polls!!
But maybe coming soon
Prove me wrong!!
Check out the patterns and course design on the web site
Competition
Send me your improved design
Two categories - standard Bb and extended Bb
Prize - a PLM T-shirt and bragging rights on the website.
