Good morning and thank you for coming along to learn about designing eLearning. My name is Monica and I am your trainer today. I have been working in the eLearning industry for the past 10 years and have recently started teaching eLearning at xxx Tafe. STORY??
This unit TAEDES503 Design and develop eLearning resources is a Nationally accredited course. Your employee Mind has sent you along here today so you can learn to design and create an engaging elearning resource.
L: I know that you are all interested to be here and are looking forward to the next step in your career as trainers for Mind. I think this unit will be very helpful for you when it comes time for you to be in my position in from of your own students one day! In particular you will learn a great insight into the body language of your participants. This will help you ensure they are engaged and enjoying your presentation.
O: This In today’s session we will be looking at how to plan and design an eLearning course.
S: This is a 40 minute session. The session is made up of interactive activities and me presenting information to you. We will be having a second session where we will look at developing an eLearning course.
S: before we begin, I will quickly talk you through our safety and housekeeping. So firstly, the bathrooms are up the hall to the right. If you need to go, there is no need to ask, just go.
In the event of a fire or an emergency you will hear an alarm. We will all go together to the evacuation point which is at the rear of the building.
S: Now that that is all covered off, it’s time to begin. I hope you enjoy the session today, I am going to make it as fun and interactive as I can, so please feel free to raise your hand and ask any questions or make any comments along the way. At the end of the session I will be giving you an evaluation session, so please provide me some feedback so I can improve these sessions in the future.
Icebreaker.
As a way to get to know each other, we will do an icebreaker. So I will give you 5 minutes to arrange yourselves in alphabetical order from which industry you work in.
Ask a participant to give details of a lecture
Ask participant to give details of classroom training
Ask participant to give details of elearning – reveal eLearning
Handout cards (5 mins – 7 mins
Ask the room – although this video related to film – can you see how it would relate to eLearning?
Each person say one thing they like about storyboarding?
Hand out script and explain assessment.
Video??
Show my examples
Doing shoelaces – why, good example, bad example, now you do it.
Page 46 – concept – remember to be brief – not too many words. Use exercises or refer them somewhere else if you need more detail.
Page 47 – what not to do
Page 48 – what not to do
Page 49 – what not to do
Page 50 – what you should do
May have an exercise or workbook exercise.
How do you use this to your procedure.
Speak to the person next to you.
Summarise:
That is all for today. So to summarise, we have looked at the benefits of eLearning and how to structure a concept.
In our next session we will look at some different medium you can use and you will convert the script I handed out into an eLearning course.
So please hand back your scripts so we can use them next time.
Any questions?
Thanks and goodbye!

What is an authoring tool?
Each authoring tool is different. You need to know what your authoring tool can do before you design your eLearning. For example:
Moodle: text, attachments, links and submitting
Composica: drag and drop, embed flash, multiple choice, graphics – compatibility issues.
For this session we are going to imagine we have a magic authoring tool which does what ever we want.
