2. Why I Participate
• I want to be an active participant in our political
system, because I want change. I want my state to
be the example when it comes to promoting a
better way of life, for all that live here. It should
not matter what your circumstances are, you have
a right to live in this state and you if you do, if
should be the be best experience of your life. Plus,
it is my rightful duty to vote as an American
citizen.
• I want to change the way that immigrants from
any country are treated here, and to give them the
best path for success in a country foreign to them.
I want those who are apart of the LGBTQ+
community to have the exact same rights as to
those who are not apart of that community. And
to help end racial and gender discrimination. All
this, to promote equality for all, and positivity.
3. Texas Government Process
• The governor's powers are a lot more different than I originally
thought. It was interesting to learn about the difference between
his formal, and informal powers, and how, because his informal
power are more important, he has less judicial authority.
• I was shocked at how low the voting turnout in Texas is, and why
it is so low. Also how much media plays an importance when it
comes to promoting candidates, location and time for voting.
• I would like to learn more about the death penalty, and how the
process is carried out in the court room as well as on death row.
More so, the cost for sentencing the person to death.
4. The Education System
In Texas
• While you could argue that immigration in Texas is
more important, currently in Texas. I would argue
Education is just as important. The educational
system in Texas needs to make changes on how it
teaches its’ students as well as tests their abilities.
They need to better prepare them for the world
instead of having them take tests, that do nothing
but, challenge their memory. The system also needs
to better job, when it comes to training future
educators, as well as their pay for the job they do. I
believe this problem will get worse as time goes on,
that is why I believe it is the biggest problem in
Texas.
5. Texas’ Role In Influencing
Federal Government Decision
Making
• Texas is a very large state, not just in size and belt
buckles, but in its population size and delegates and
electoral votes. Every election there is speculation
in rather Texas will go blue or not, the Republicans
really want to hold on to Texas, and so they make a
lot of decisions that they know will make, not just
the majority of the Republicans in Texas, but those
undetermined how they want to vote, side with
them.
• As mentioned, Texas has a large number of
delegates in the House, 36. And a large number of
electoral votes, 38. These numbers are crucial when
it comes to the policies that the federal government
makes.
6. What I Have Learned
• Voting, not just for our state's leaders, but our nations leaders, is
very important. If you want to change to happen, go and vote.
• I now know, the role our governor plays and how much he does,
what he does not do, and what he cannot do.
• It is safe to say the media is more important today than I thought
it was. We live in a world today, where what we see and hear
influences our decisions, and most get that information from the
media.
• We can make a difference and a change in our state and in our
country.
