1. HI EVERYONE! MY NAME IS AMY

YOSEMITE SAM
IS THE CHARACTER I THINK
BEST DEPICTS TEXAS
(COWBOY WITH A COME AND
TAKE IT ATTITUDE)
2. What
Motivates
Me?
I primarily feel motived to get more involved in politics so I
can make a difference in my state and in my country. I truly
believe every vote counts. I would like our state to remain a
state without a state tax. I feel like our state is still the best
state to live. Especially for those who run their own
business.
Things I would like to see change; Keep work here in the
United States (reduce foreign trade). For example buying
our fuel from foreign countries when we have an
abundance of fuel here in Texas (U.S.). Lowering the cost
of continuing education. Texas also has to do something
about the illegal immigration from its border of Mexico or we
are going to face over crowding in the future among other
problems.

3. Things That I Have
Learned This Semester
3
I have learned a great deal about how
our justice system works. I think it is
very interesting to know how each
branch of our government works. Also
how politician’s campaign and raise
their campaign funds. I also learned
quite a bit about the death penalty
and how it works. I was very surprised
to find out that a death penalty case
costs more than a life in prison case.
Another interesting fact is how the
future of our state is changing and
Texas is predicted to change to a
democratic state in the near future.
4. A Political Issue I Believe Will Affect future
Generations
• The single most important
political issue the future
generations in Texas will face
in my opinion is illegal
immigration. Texas is currently
becoming flooded with illegal
immigrants who will eventually
pose huge problems state
wide if not dealt with in the
near future.

5. TEXAS MAKES A DIFFERENCE
• Texas is a very large state that
contributes greatly to the decisions
of the federal government due to the
large number of Texan votes. Texas
also has substantial influence over
matters in the U. S. since the late
1960’s such as; education, financial
regulation, and energy policies.
Texas has also sent a handful of
leaders to Washington D.C. to lead
this nation.

6. Lessons I’ve Learned
Types of law; Family, Criminal, Civil &
Juvenile. And what kind of crimes fall into
each.
Different types of courts; Grand Jury, Petit
Jury. Also the structure of the State Courts.
How different types of crimes are prosecuted
and which court they are tried in.
I think it is very beneficial for me to understand
these processes, especially since I am
furthering my education in nursing and this is a
field with a generous amount of liability.
