2. WHY DOES THE FILM INDUSTRY SPEND SO MUCH TIME
AND MONEY TEST SCREENING FILMS?
The film industry spends a lot of time and money test screening films as it is
extremely important that everything is right and that there is nothing wrong with
the film in which directors and editors may not be able to pick out as they have
seen it countless times.
A lot of money is invested into individual films and the film industry as a whole
so it is important that they make a profit or they will lose lots of money.
It is also important to ensure that they are including things that attract an
audience, this means getting the target audience for the film to test it out.
They will also need to carry out careful marketing research and research into
both primary and secondary data for their target audience.
3. HOW DID YOU GET THIS
FEEDBACK? Pitch Presentation- After we had presented our pitch on our film, the class asked questions
and there was a group discussion on their views and opinions, we then made a note of the
feedback we received.
Evaluation of Feedback
We were asked a few questions after we
presented our pitch to the class, including 'Why is
the person in the woods on their own?', the
reasoning for this is because they are going on
their daily run; this meant that we had to ensure
that we were giving enough information to the
audience.
So then when we were planning the mise en
scene we made sure that we were making it clear
that she was running by the choice of costume
(hoodie, running leggings and running shoes,
also headphones)
4. We also got told to include interesting shots as some trailers that are filmed in the woods can be
basic, however we were encouraged to keep the story line basic and just make sure the way in
we film and edit the trailer is varied and more complex.
We included a range of shots such as:
POV shot (Point of view)-
Establishing Shot-
Close Up-
Using a range of shots allowed the
audience to understand the storyline
more clearly, the point of view shot in
particular enabled the audience to have
emotion and feelings towards to the
character as they had a sense of
involvement from the villains eyes.
The establishing shot also
meant the audience knew
more about what was
happening as the setting is
a very important element of
mise en scene.
The close up shot of the antagonist
also meant that the audience could
see more about the characters
thoughts and feelings through their
facial expressions and emotions,
which can't always be seen from a
distance.
5. Rough Cut- The class filled out worksheets on what we needed to improve and what was
good, they also did this for our magazine and poster.

This was my response to the feedback in which we received:
I personally agree with the majority of the feedback in which
we received, I thought that the sound in our teaser trailer
particular had to many layers and had too much going on, I
also felt that it did not fit with what was going on visually.
In regards to the magazine, it was incomplete so therefore
the majority of the feedback related to it being incomplete
and we were aware of this.
The poster was also incomplete as we had not yet added the
silhouette. The other feedback we received was that we
should make the title stand out more or maybe change the
text.
Here is some feedback that relates to my response:
They stated the storyline correctly and said that we
could improve more about the conventions of our
trailer and that the strenghts of our magazine was
the colour scheme but we still need to complete both
the magazine and poster.
6. MAGAZINE AND POSTER-
BEFORE FEEDBACKBefore
Our feedback for our
poster was given to us
by our class the same
way as our rough cut
feedback. We were
aware that this was
unfinished, so the
feedback in which we
received mostly
consisted of the fact it
was unfinished. The
image also needed a
neater crop, therefore
most of the feedback
we were aware of
already.
Before our feedback our poster looked quite bright,
although it follows typical conventions such as a
billing block, it did not show much about the film. We
had plans to add more things such as the silhouette
but ran out of time.
7. MAGAZINE AND POSTER - AFTER
FEEDBACK
After receiving our
feedback we finished
our magazine, we
added a hint of yellow
so that the magazine
stood out more. We
also made the cut of
the image a lot neater
and even added a
glow, we chose to
have a white glow as
she is the victim and a
white glow often
symbolises an angel.
Therefore after receiving our feedback we made
some changes, we were told to add more
effects to the poster and we felt a red tone
would be the most appropriate as red is a
colour that often signifies blood, death and fear.
We also added our tagline to strengthen the
brand identity and connection between our
products.
8. Final Screening
Our feedback was completed by other members of the class
who had watched our final teaser trailer, their feedback was
displayed as comments on our YouTube video of our final
product.
In regards to the feedback below, we made a big improvement on our
soundtrack since receiving feedback from out rough cut, this was something that
was said by a lot of people, therefore we improved out sound massively by
ensuring it wasn’t too busy, it fitted with the image on screen; this lead us to
remove layers and added some more appropriate sounds.
Both of these comments/feedback below state
that the genre of a thriller is very clear through the
use of our effects, editing and narrative.
9. WHAT DOES THE FINAL AUDIENCE
FEEDBACK SUGGEST ABOUT THE
SUCCESS OF YOUR MARKETING
CAMPAIGN?
The final audience feedback suggests that our marketing campaign was successful in
many ways but could have been slightly improved in some areas, for example. The
majority of the target audience stated that they felt that soundtrack fitted a lot better than
it did when they heard it in our rough cut.
The length of the film was shortened which means that it stuck to the conventions of a
teaser trailer rather than a trailer in terms of duration.
A lot of our feedback also talked about the genre and the narrative being clear
throughout all 3 of our products which is important in order to produce a successful
marketing campaign.
Therefore overall, I believe that are marketing campaign was successful.
