I worked for Quanta where I got solid ODM experience. Then I start move to technical management in HP
before joining Icera and NVIDIA.
In addition to my technical strength, I also have great international experience and enjoy working with people
from different backgrounds and cultures. I have worked in 3 different continents, from America, Asia to

Modem Team Manager, Wireless Business Unit, Quanta Computers Inc., Taipei, Taiwan.
I have been the Layer I project leaders for various 2G and 3G PDA phone and GSM/GPRS feature phone
projects. I am responsible for the development of L1 software (baseband). My duty is bridge the gap
between the sales and customers and make sure that the customer’s wish list can
be properly realized technically. I need to discuss with customer about what they really want and
coordinate the efforts of our engineers in Taipei, Taiwan and Shanghai, China and I also corporate with
other L2 and hardware staffs throughout the life cycle of the project. In addition, I do coding and debugging
for different device drivers, such as FM radio, multi-media backend IC and external DAC running or I2C and
I2S protocols.
I was responsible for the audio solutions for the new joint EDGE and TDS-CDMA platform. I had to look into
the customer’s and internal requests from different divisions. I analyze the specifications, including CPU
and critical RAM usage, from the Melody engine providers to make sure that they can fit into our hardware
architecture and support the functionalities we need. In the mean time I also have to negotiate with the
vendors for the features, supports and prices. I developed different device drivers for the audio path on the
ADI analog baseband and digital baseband chipsets.
From time to time, I also supervise and give guidance and technical help to my junior colleagues on
debugging the communication and audio DSP code from TTP communication and TI Locosto platform on
our GSM/GPRS handsets. The former is on ADI 218x DSPs. I use PERL and other tools to analyze data
taken from off-line debugging tools.
Sometimes I also work with engineers from TTP Communications in UK and our brand name customers’
engineers abroad on issues like AMR and Echo cancellation to improve our product.

DSP staff engineer, SuperTel Technologies, Bellevue, WA, USA
I was working on the Physical Layer and Data Link Layer of our long range Digital Wireless PBX
(Wireless Local Loop). It is a Voice over Packet wireless system. I am responsible for the RF module
driver, Protocol design, Modulation/Demodulation and some voice related applications. The previous product
EP-436 I worked on is already successfully commercialized.
Later I was working on implementing the 2.4Kbps MELP vocoder for the one-line ultra long range wireless
system. I am responsible for the definition of the air interface design, vocoder and DSP selection. Before this
project I was working on the proprietary Data Link Layer and Physical layer (air interface) of the 4-line long-
range wireless PBX, the EP-436. I was responsible for the RF module (900MHz and 2.4 GHz) control
software, inter-processor communication (with another TI C5409 DSP and H8 MCU), MSK
modulation/demodulation with Match Filtering, FEC, DTMF tone detection, Echo Cancellation, air
interference from 802.11a/b, and G729.A (8 Kbps) integration. I also dealt with the pack loss or error
concealment on this kind of VoP system.
All these are based on assembly or C for TI C5409 DSP chip in the Code Composer Studio IDE. I use of the
TI Code Composer and Spectrum Digital emulator in my development and testing. I also support hardware
engineers with different testing software to improve the hardware performance on the board level so I am
familiar with different equipments such as Spectrum Analyzer, Logic Analyzer and Oscilloscope. I use
Matlab to simulate and evaluate different applications such as relaying fax and DTMF tones with the CELP
encoder and decoder for our system before starting the implementation on the TI DSP. My part also has to
interact with other processors like other DSP and MCU. Mostly I design the algorithm for my counterparts so
that we can progress more efficiently and productively. In addition, In the same time, I deal with our
production line in Taiwan promptly to fix the bug reported by the QA or customers worldwide.

First I was in the task force to develop the Internet Audio Access Station (IAAS) prototype. It is based on the
Mitsubishi M16/80 microprocessor. I was responsible for its flash memory module driver (8M bytes AMD
flash), LCD module driver (Mitsubishi LCD controller + Samsung LCD), Graphical User Interface and system
integration. All the modules here are written in C. Afterwards I took part in Standalone Internet Radio (real-
time streaming) and Home shopper device base station, both of them are evolved from the aforementioned
IAAS project.
I was then in the DSP Audio team to develop the signal processing modules , such as Virtual Dolby Digital,
Automatic Volume Leveling, 4-Stereo, Headphone Downmix, Incredible Mono and Ultra Bass for the
R.E.A.L. DSP (Reconfigurable Embedded DSP Architecture Low-cost/Low-power) the
Philips new generation 24-bit reconfigurable DSP chip which is deployed in the TV or Stereo. All these
signal processing modules are written in R.E.A.L. 24 assembly language. For all of these audio signal
processing modules, in addition to the algorithm and implementation, I have to come up the Specification,
Top Level Design, Test Specification, Test Report and Data Sheet to validate the results. The frequency
response and phase response have to be checked against the reference.

My thesis is about Multi-user Detection with Partial Response Decision Feedback Equalizer in mobile

It is a Voice over Packet wireless system. I am responsible for the RF module driver, Protocol design, Modulation/Demodulation and some voice related applications. The previous product EP-436 I worked on is already successfully commercialized. Later I was working on implementing the 2.4Kbps MELP vocoder for the one-line ultra long range wireless system. I am responsible for the definition of the air interface design, vocoder and DSP selection.
