Introduction
• My name is Jack Bevens and I am Deaf.
• I went to Doncaster School for the Deaf and I studied Maths,
English, History, RE and Art.
• I went to Communication Specialist College Doncaster and I
studied Creative Media Production Level Two (One Year)
• I went to York College and I studied Creative Media Production
Level Two and Performing Arts Level Two.
• Now, I am studying Creative Media Production Level Three (Two
Years)
• I would like to apply to university to studying Drama and Film
Studies (Three Years) and I want to learn to become a film
director and actor in the future.
Academic History
• I went to Doncaster School for the Deaf. I studied Maths, English, History, Art
and RE.
• English is important for me because I know film directors and actors must
use English for scriptwriting.
• History and RE are helpful because I might create short films about war also
films about King Henry VII and Queen Elizabeth 1.
• Art is important to me because that helps me to imagine what I will create
and what my short films will look like. Also in creating storyboards which is
helpful. I think art links to Deaf culture more than English because Deaf
people can imagine strong images and live in a visual world.
• I went Doncaster College for the Deaf (Now, Communication Specialist
College Doncaster) I spend one year studying at Creative Media Production
Level Two. I learnt how to create scripts and editing and this was the first
time I learnt about creating short films.
Current Study
• Creative Media Production and Technology Level Two: I created a horror short
film called “The Stranger”. I learnt new skills to create the script, editing and
the camera because I have never tried it before. I really enjoyed my first time
creating a short film. I like to learn about film because I want to be director in
the future.
• Performing Arts Level Two: I was performing on stage in front of a live
audience. I had excellent facial expressions and body language. I had some
skills with the performance because that is important to the audience in
understanding what the story is about. I want my future to include acting
because I love to be a comedian actor and make my audience laugh.
• Create Media Production and Technology Level Three: I created another
horror short film called “Death Birthday”. My skills had improved from Level
Two. I want to be professional because I want go to university to learn to be
more professional with directing and acting.
The Future
• I want to apply to York, Hull and Sheffield Universities because
they have drama and film studies (three years) courses. I will
learn acting and directing in one course.
• I know three departments have popular jobs directing and acting:
Television Centre in London, MediaCityUK in Manchester and The
Leeds Studios in Leeds.
• First, I hope to get a job in Leeds because that is near York (my
home) and easy to travel to from York. However I am prepared to
travel to Manchester of London.
• University will also help me develop confidence with travelling to
different cities and possibly aboard as part of my studies.
• I want to work in Hollywood because that is the ultimate goal and
where most movies are made.
Outside College
• I love hanging out with my friends, shopping, going to restaurants
and road trips (one day).
• I am Deaf but I have some hearing friends because I like mix socially
with hearing people. I know that university may only have a few
deaf people but I feel confident with hearing people too.
• I went to holidays Ibiza, Majorca, Benidorm, Tenerife and Vigo all in
Spain. I met some people from aboard and they are open-minded
and respectful. They make me feel more confident. I really enjoyed
my holiday, nightclubs, boat party, waterpark, zoo and theatre.
• I am a member of the Deaf community where I meet lots of deaf
people. I am a friendly person and like to make them feel
comfortable and have fun.
• I am sure I will do the same at university because I like to give to
include hearing people and make them feel comfortable and
relaxed around me.
Conclusion
• I want to go to university because I want to get a job in the
future as a director and actor. Going to university is the best
way of making this happen.
• I would like to learn more about teamwork within a group and
learn how to communication with hearing people more
efficiently to get prepared before the job begins.
• I will move to second year of level 3 Creative Media Production
and I hope I can achieve a distinction on my course to prove I
have what it takes to succeed.
• I know university is different than college because at college I
only work by myself. This is not enough for me, I like too
develop relationships with people who also like to create
movie.

  • 18. Introduction • My name is Jack Bevens and I am Deaf. • I went to Doncaster School for the Deaf and I studied Maths, English, History, RE and Art. • I went to Communication Specialist College Doncaster and I studied Creative Media Production Level Two (One Year) • I went to York College and I studied Creative Media Production Level Two and Performing Arts Level Two. • Now, I am studying Creative Media Production Level Three (Two Years) • I would like to apply to university to studying Drama and Film Studies (Three Years) and I want to learn to become a film director and actor in the future.
  • 19. Academic History • I went to Doncaster School for the Deaf. I studied Maths, English, History, Art and RE. • English is important for me because I know film directors and actors must use English for scriptwriting. • History and RE are helpful because I might create short films about war also films about King Henry VII and Queen Elizabeth 1. • Art is important to me because that helps me to imagine what I will create and what my short films will look like. Also in creating storyboards which is helpful. I think art links to Deaf culture more than English because Deaf people can imagine strong images and live in a visual world. • I went Doncaster College for the Deaf (Now, Communication Specialist College Doncaster) I spend one year studying at Creative Media Production Level Two. I learnt how to create scripts and editing and this was the first time I learnt about creating short films.
  • 20. Current Study • Creative Media Production and Technology Level Two: I created a horror short film called “The Stranger”. I learnt new skills to create the script, editing and the camera because I have never tried it before. I really enjoyed my first time creating a short film. I like to learn about film because I want to be director in the future. • Performing Arts Level Two: I was performing on stage in front of a live audience. I had excellent facial expressions and body language. I had some skills with the performance because that is important to the audience in understanding what the story is about. I want my future to include acting because I love to be a comedian actor and make my audience laugh. • Create Media Production and Technology Level Three: I created another horror short film called “Death Birthday”. My skills had improved from Level Two. I want to be professional because I want go to university to learn to be more professional with directing and acting.
  • 21. The Future • I want to apply to York, Hull and Sheffield Universities because they have drama and film studies (three years) courses. I will learn acting and directing in one course. • I know three departments have popular jobs directing and acting: Television Centre in London, MediaCityUK in Manchester and The Leeds Studios in Leeds. • First, I hope to get a job in Leeds because that is near York (my home) and easy to travel to from York. However I am prepared to travel to Manchester of London. • University will also help me develop confidence with travelling to different cities and possibly aboard as part of my studies. • I want to work in Hollywood because that is the ultimate goal and where most movies are made.
  • 22. Outside College • I love hanging out with my friends, shopping, going to restaurants and road trips (one day). • I am Deaf but I have some hearing friends because I like mix socially with hearing people. I know that university may only have a few deaf people but I feel confident with hearing people too. • I went to holidays Ibiza, Majorca, Benidorm, Tenerife and Vigo all in Spain. I met some people from aboard and they are open-minded and respectful. They make me feel more confident. I really enjoyed my holiday, nightclubs, boat party, waterpark, zoo and theatre. • I am a member of the Deaf community where I meet lots of deaf people. I am a friendly person and like to make them feel comfortable and have fun. • I am sure I will do the same at university because I like to give to include hearing people and make them feel comfortable and relaxed around me.
  • 23. Conclusion • I want to go to university because I want to get a job in the future as a director and actor. Going to university is the best way of making this happen. • I would like to learn more about teamwork within a group and learn how to communication with hearing people more efficiently to get prepared before the job begins. • I will move to second year of level 3 Creative Media Production and I hope I can achieve a distinction on my course to prove I have what it takes to succeed. • I know university is different than college because at college I only work by myself. This is not enough for me, I like too develop relationships with people who also like to create movie.
