What can staff insights data tell us about their development needs?

  1. Found the data from the student version really valuable as We have used the data to support improvements to the digital infrastructure, Introduction of learning and teaching policies and awareness raising around the mismatch in preparing students with the right digital skills for their careers
  2. Piloted the survey with staff in 2019 Ran from Jan to mid Feb this year 121 academic staff completed it 7% of our academic staff
  3. Really pleasing to see as a lot of investment has been put in and continuing to be put into to improve this
  4. Clearly an important area for our staff and students which they feel they do not have access to
  5. Really positive to see Want to encourage further opportunities to increase this
  6. Biggest areas of feedback were around reward and recognition and being given time to innovate
  7. However, most staff felt they were early adopters
  8. And they wanted to use digital technologies more
  9. We also identified key areas through there use of technology, highlighting Teaching in live online environment Student collaboration in VLE
  10. Which is where we want it to be, however, 40% never do this, does this indicate a training need?
  11. So from the findings we wrote a report and put forward a series of recommendations for the institution Hoping to improve the digital experience for our staff
  12. The information we have gathered has also been used to feed into a review of learning spaces and the VLE Focus groups run with academic staff to uncover further information about their experiences and ideas
  13. Explore video-based skills training as staff often turn online for help and we could curate these to help provide better development opportunities and Digital Capability course for staff
  14. We need to provide flexible learning opportunities for our staff to help them develop the skills they need to use technology effectively in their teaching.
  15. Future fit curriculum development – working with programmes to apply a digital lens
  16. Share practice with others and recognise through existing schemes such as Advance HE fellowships and VC Awards
  17. Key to engage our staff with the digital agenda And hear their voice Develop their digital skills and improve the digital experience for students
