2. ROSA PARKS(1913-2005)
Rosa Parks was born on Rosa Louise MeCauley in
Alabama, USA on 4th February 1913.Her mother
was a teacher and her father was a carpenter. Her
parents separated when she was a girl and she
went to live on her grand parents' farm with her
mother and younger brother where she attended
church and school.As a child, Rosa experienced a
lot of racism and saw how black and white people
were separated by law in American society.
3. Then she was an American activistbin the civil rights
movement best known for her pivotal role in the
Montgomery bus boycott. The United States Congress
has called her "the first lady of civil rights" and "the
mother of the freedom movement". The incident held
on December 1,1955,in Montgomery, Alabama
changed her life. Montgomery bus boycott became
important symbols of the movement. She became an
international icon of resistance to racial segregation,
and organized and collaborated with civil rights
leaders, including Edgar Nixon and Martin Luthur
King.
4. Her birthday February 4, and the day she was
arrested, December 1, have both become Rosa
Parks Day. California and Missouri
commemorate Rosa ParksDay on her birthday,
February 4, while Ohio and Oregon
commemorate the anniversary of her arrest
December 1. Parks died of natural causes on
October 24, 2005, at the age of 92,in her
apartment on the east side of Detroit.
