For a media studies foundation portfolio, the author researched the target audiences of existing indie fashion magazines by breaking down their front covers. They analyzed magazines like Buffalo Zine, The Gentlewoman, and Mitt to determine each publication's target age range, gender, main visual appeals, reader interests, preferred color schemes, and effective language in order to understand how the magazines attract specific target markets through visual, written, and design techniques.

2. INTRODUCTION
For my preproduction Media Studies Foundation Port-
folio Research Task I carried out target audience re-
search into existing magazines. I have done a break-
down of existing indie fashion magazines to show how
these magazines use modes of address to target their
audiences. I have pinpointed the target audiences: age
ranges, genders, how the main image attracts them,
their interests, their preferred colour scheme and lan-
guage which appeals to them, in order to understand
how each magazine uses different visual, written and
design techniques to attract their pacific target mar-
ket.
