3. HISTORY:
• In 1980, few symptoms were appeared in young males
such as pneumonia, weight loss, and loss of
immune functions but all were homosexuals.
• After sometime, these symptoms were appeared in other
males who were given blood transfusion or blood
products and they were all non-homosexuals.
4. • In 1984, the agent causing disease was identified by
PASTEUR and he named this agent as
HIV (human immuno deficiency virus)
5. How it infects a human body?
• HIV attacks on T-lymphocytes (major component of
human immune system)
As a result, number of T-lymphocytes decreases causes
the failure of immune system and person susceptible to
other diseases.
7. How can you get HIV ?
• if a NEEDLE that had been in a HIV-positive patient's
body pierces your skin.
• if infected blood gets into your mucus membrane-such as
the eyes, nose, mouth.
• if infected blood gets into an open cut in your skin
• from mother to child during pregnancy
• through body fluids
8. How can u reduce your risk of HIV?
• wear protection such as a mask, gown, goggles and
gloves
• cover up any cuts or abrasions with plasters/ bandages
• handle sharp equipments carefully
• dispose off sharp equipment in a solid container
• clean up blood spills immediately
• wash your hands with soap after contact with a patient's
blood
• use of sterile needles/syringes and utensils
9. Is there any vaccine synthesized to cure AIDS?
• There is no cure HIV and AIDS yet. however, treatment
can control HIV and enable people to live a healthy life.
