2. WORK EXPERIENCE
Ryecroft Glenton – Newcastle – One Week (2010)
A Large Independent Local Firm of Chartered Accountants.
Assisted in preparation of clients’ annual accounts in office and also experienced external
audits at client firms within the city.
This experience was mainly analysing and converting data across systems but it allowed
me apply my knowledge of excel and learn fundamental skills used both in the office and
with customers on audits. The experience mainly entailed analysing clients’ accounts and
learning what an accountant does step-by-step on a daily basis. Going out on audits were
also very enlightening as I learnt the importance of customer service and communication
when interacting with clients.
Gibson Booth – Barnsley – One Week (2014)
A Leading Insolvency and Accounting Firm, experience centred around the Tax Department.
Worked within a team and senior managers on a daily basis which entailed a wide variety
of tasks including finalising tax returns for new and existing clients. Viewing a client’s
income, savings, pensions, dividends and assets, specifically property, allowed me to
compute tax computations and schedules of data which included a final return. I
produced formal letters to individual clients, explaining how much they owed the
government in taxes with an overall analysis of each section. For specific clients with
comprehensive details within their assets, I used the IRIS Business Tax Program to
transfer data to conclude the tax returns for HMRC.
I learnt that dealing with individual client’s financial affairs requires high levels of accuracy
and attention to detail which are essential in providing strong customer service
