High School Vs College Essay
I am young, almost broke, and attending college. High school and college are different yet similar in some ways. Without a high school or college
diploma, you can't get a job. To me, high school seems to be a free trail that lasts for four years. A way to find what you would like to do in life.
College, on the other hand, is like finding what you want to do and paying for classes in order to reach your dreams and paying for classes that
have nothing to do with what you would like to do in life. College is nothing like I imagined it to be. But because of the things I have experience in
high school it makes me want to be more successful and gives me that drive to do better. In high school, my freshman year I was a horrible student.
I couldn't adjust to the environment around me which caused my GPA to drop. I was so busy trying to fit it that I lost sight of what I was really
there to do. I didn't go to class, study, or do any work needed to pass the class until it was almost too late. In high school, I was on top of the word
everyone loved me or so I thought. Those that I thought were my friends were always the ones encouraging me not to go to class and go outside to
eat or shop instead. I would cheat on test copy work just to keep up n the class, but it didn't matter I was going to end up in summer school, while all
my so called friends enjoyed their summer working or vacationing. I would have to get up every day to go to summer school. I went to summer school

Every student typically has a great high school career. Classes are not very difficult; AP courses are an exception. Student workload is minimal,
obtaining good grades is not much of a struggle, and exams are typically easy to pass. Course load outside the class is no more then a few hours of
homework each week. Teachers and faculty help facilitate a moderately laid back culture to learning.
The school system supports students to make sure their performance in classes in adequate to move on and aid students who are behind. Teachers, will
typically pass students, even when there is a lack of understanding. Senior year is no exception to this. Teachers realize that seniors have little
motivation to do work, especially as they get...show more content...

the teacher is speaking, in fear of the common response, to "be quiet." Students have their pens, ready to write down the next important note. Likewise,
the learning progress progresses similarly. Each course has a set curriculum that the teacher must follow and complete before the end of the course.
Teachers follow textbooks, handouts, and chapters as they lead students through the required material. The path the teacher follows can vary because
texts differ and teaching styles differ but the structure is always similar.
For example, math topics follow corresponding chapters, as they build upon the previous ones. This becomes a routine learning style, but it is effective
and the instructor has the ability to adjust it. The grading system is a fundamental part of education. The earliest recording of the commonly seen A
through F grading system comes from Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts in 1877. This common system is still necessary. High schools all
around the world follow this simple grading scheme to classify how a student is preforming in class and on the work he or she is turning in.
Likewise, this system is what high schools and colleges use to grade students on the quizzes, tests, exams, and papers given periodically throughout the
year. Classes

High School Vs. College Academic Writing Essay
We have been told by many of our High School English teachers that being able to formulate the perfect essay will make transitioning into the college
academic conversation much less challenging. But did they ever teach us how to write such a paper? Well, there was the five–paragraph essay only
rule among all of your teachers, and if it did not contain facts or opinions it was unacceptable. That is where one of the many differences between high
school English and college English lies. Within college academic writing students will have to know how to incorporate certified outside sources into
their papers, be able to keep the reader interested on the topic, and have the ability to read academically. When was the last time you wrote a paper
and actually had to do research on your own for a high school English class? Probably only once, or most likely, never. When you consider to do
research on a topic that interests you, you have to make sure that your site is credible, and what does that mean? That it comes from a place that is not
in any way bias about the topic. In Roane State's MLA: Using Sources Correctly, the authors are basically telling you that when using in–text quotations
you are usually trying to use a specific phrase from the article to get your point across. For example, according to Roanestate.edu, "... in–text
citation...using information from another source such as a fact, summary, or paraphrase to support...own ideas" (Roane State, 1). This means that by

Essay on Comparing College and High School
College and high school are not as different as one might think because they both share a common root: education. Most people will try to convince
you that college is very different from high school. They would state all sorts of things to look forward to while graduating from high school to
college. The housing situation, for example, is very different. In high school, (nearly) everyone lives at home, subject to their parents' rules and
regulations. There are preset curfew times and limits to the types and sizes of parties that one could hold. But as it turns out, college is much like high
school in many ways.
Taking classes to educate oneself is the essence of both high school and college. And just as there are some (or...show more content...
People might say that you have more free time in college, but in reality the extra time you spend studying in college during odd hours of the day
does a nice job of filling in any holes in your schedule. Thus, in both college and high school, a person has a rigid schedule that is followed routinely
nearly all the time.
Both periods in a youth's life are said to be a time for experimentation, a time to discover oneself. In high school, teenagers are just starting to receive
responsibilities such as driving. But they have a wonderful opportunity to try risky things while they are still minors and won't suffer the full legal
consequences from any deviant behavior. College is virtually the same because by that time the students have full responsibility and independence. We
all know that you are better able to experiment and discover things about yourself if you can be left alone. Even though it is through different reasons,
college and high school both present youths with the ability to learn more about themselves.
Another misconception is that the social life changes greatly when one moves on from high school. When examined more closely, it is obvious that
just like in high school, college students will be around the same group of people for a four–year period. Everyone still gets into closely knit circles of
friends. The only real difference is that there are more options of things to do with your

Differences Between High School and College Essay
It is often said, that high school, prepares a student for college. For certain, a student is being prepared, but only for what the world has to offer, and
that is making choices on what to pursue. Certainly, most people would concur with this statement. But, the fact to consider is, that high school does
not prepare a student for the major difference in the challenge. One difference in the area of challenge is the work. In high school, students are not
challenged with assignments. Generally, an assignment in high school does not require much depth. When it comes to homework in high school,
students are not assigned homework often. As well, in high school, most instructors do not promote the proper grammar, punctuation or...show more

In college, there is a definite difference in expectation, and this is a major challenge. In high school, students are cradled by the teachers and
administration. If a person is to fail an assignment, the students have as many chances possible to pass. In addition, if a student fails an exam, this
will not mean that the student fails the course. Therefore, this causes major problems going to college. In college, most courses require that the
student passes the exam with a certain grade determined by the school. In addition, for most courses in college, it is expected that the student gets a
55 or 60 percent in the course, depending on the course. Furthermore, in college, students are expected to learn quicker. What is meant by this is, that
in high school, students are taught at a slower rate. Therefore, it is definite that in high school, having less expectation reflects in college, by causing
more of a challenge for the student to adjust. Finally, achieving a high grade in college is more difficult than in high school. In high school, grades are
easier to achieve and there are greater opportunities for marks. Usually, a student is graded on many different areas, including; attendance, participation,
effort, and organization. Also, students are graded on evaluations and assignments. These are the areas which are graded, and these account for a large
portion of the final

High School And College Essay
It's no surprise that high school and college can be a really confusing and fun place. We're attempting to fit in while as yet learning things about
ourselves, and who we truly are. There are hormones, drama, relationships, and plenty of growth. In college, I feel like the majority of people here are
on a similar track. We all have a common goal, which is why I feel like I can be more of myself here. As a matter of fact, I'm more relaxed than I was in
high school. Back then it was as if everyone was judging my every move. Two amazing stages of my life that I fully appreciate, however, as much as
I've gained from the two experiences, college unquestionably has formed me into the individual I am today. With that being said, I'll clarify how my
priorities and values are different in college than those I held when I was in high school. While being in high school, I didn't really appreciate all
the time I had. I didn't have to work because my parent's made sure of that. I didn't take the proper time to study for my classes. Then again, they
weren't really hard aside from math. I could look over a study guide during the first ten minutes of class and easily make a B on the test. In college, by
contrast, I have to not only study twice as hard but also find distinctive examining techniques. I now realize time is everything. There's just so much to
do between studying, working, procrastination, keeping proper nutrition to stay healthy, and trying to get a full eight hours of sleep

High School Writing Vs College Essay
High school writing differs a great deal from college level writing. I feel like I was not prepared to take such a big leap. Writing was never a strong
suit of mine since I never really knew how to make connections, come up with solid commentary, or transition between paragraphs. Another
weakness of mines is my vocabulary. I feel like my vocabulary is not up to par with that of a college student, which is typically very elevated and
intelligent sounding. However, I think it is just because I did not have a solid basis of writing. In high school, I succumbed myself to regular English
classes to get an easy A rather than challenging myself by taking Honors or AP courses. It was not until my senior year in high school that I decided to
enroll myself into Honors British Literature. Throughout my high school career, I never really had a course...show more content...
For starters, in college a week is given to complete a paper, but in high school a week was given just to start brainstorming ideas. Of course there are
higher expectations, but that was inevitable. The typical structure of a high school essay consists of five paragraphs: an introduction, three body,
paragraphs, and a conclusion. In college there is basically no structure as you should write as much that content that most effectively conveys your
idea and backs up your argument. I would have to say that college level writing focuses on more complex argument centered around a very
detailed, but arguable thesis. I have learned that the research that I did in high school is not the most reliable type of research. In high school I
would search up sources on Google and pick one that pertained to the topic at hand. However in college, I learned that you must pick credible
sources that are written by professionals and experts. I now use the library database to provide my paper with the most reliable and credible

College Vs. High School
College Vs. High School Some may think that high school and college reading and writing are similar and that it's just the next level up but it 's
not, they differentiate in many ways. College reading and writing is more than that, it's a completely different world when compared to high
school. It's much more advanced and complexed. Some ideas that can be compared are the way we annotate, understand text, assignment topics,
the depth of research, and so on. This is important to understanding how much more you can get out of college vs. just getting a high school
reading and writing education. In high school I got the opportunity to be involved in honors and AP English classes. Throughout those classes I
was able to learn how to annotate, format (is key to writing a good essay), proper citations, personal words should not be added such as "I", "we",
"us" "our". To annotate was to skim over and just write what you understand about the text in the margin. If you could have the format of the
"beginning, middle, and end" then writing a two page/1,000 word minimum did not apply to grading. In writing a good essay, proper citations were
a big chunk of writing an essay. Though, I never learned how to properly cite in the time given to learn it because I was not as advanced as other
students. When writing an essay we were also never allowed to use personal words because that meant it would take away from the meaning and
credibility of your essay. In my opinion writing in high school

I think everyone should get at least some education after high school. Three main reasons why you should go to college after high school is first you
more professional when applying for a job, next you can meet more people and socialize, lastly is self discovery. First reason why you should go to
college after high school is because of future opportunities. When applying for a job you wanna look your best and you want to look professional and
experienced at whatever you want to do. Going to college after high school can prepare you for the real world and make you more responsible. The
more experienced you look in whatever field you wanna do the jobs will be looking for someone with at least some experience. Even if you do not

High School vs. College There are many similarities, and differences betweeen high school and college. High School was the best four years of
my life. I got in alot of trouble in thoses years, but also had a blast. Now at J.C.C. it is even better than high school, and my eyes are being opened
to a whole new world. In Toronto High School you can get away with just about anything. Jefferson Community College is a whole different story.
High school begins at eight o'clock, and ends around three. You go to the same seven or eight classes every day. You also see the same people you
have grown up with since you were little. You have football season, school dances, after school activities, clubs, boys, plays, and a ton of homework.

You can schedule your classes when they are convenient for you, and you have to live on campus for the first few years. You can go to class when
you feel like it, and not have to worry about mom and dad nagging at you to get out of bed. Although college and high school seem totally different
there are alot of similarities. Studying is a major part of high school and college and you will not survive without it. You will do alot of this in both
high school and college. You also will have attendance taken regularly, and alot of work to fit in your schedule. There are all the activities from high
school that you will still be able to participate in in college. You can still go to all of the sports. If you fail a class in College you can just sign up to
take it again. In High School if you fail a class tough cookies for you. Instead of going by nine weeks like in High School, you go by semesters. Your
holiday breaks are longer in college than in High School. I was so excited to graduate and just be on my own. If I could go back to High School I
would in a second. I went on a college visit to The University of Akron and did not want to leave. There were so many things I loved, especially the
freedom. On college campuses you have to be very careful, and always have someone with you. There are many similarities between High School and

Although one might think that college is simply one step above high school, there are several differences between the two, and one must be
prepared for what's ahead. This essay will discuss a few of the most important differences between high school and college. In high school, most of
your classes were probably assigned to you and you were supplied with many of your classroom materials and books. You probably also had a
guidance counselor telling you which courses to take and when. In college, it is your responsibility to sign up for the classes you need to take to
graduate (if you need help with this, you will need to make an appointment with an advisor) and you are responsible for buying all class materials.

Many college professors don't take attendance or have the time to make sure all of their students are making passing grades in all of their courses.
If you miss a class, plan on getting notes from a fellow classmate. If you attend a large college or university, your professors probably won't even try
to remember your name, as they have hundreds of students each semester. If an assignment was due on a day you decided to miss class, there's a
good chance your professor will not let you turn it in late. You are responsible for remembering important deadlines, as your parents will not be
communicating with your professors, and will have no idea when your assignments are due. Also, remember that if you want some one–on–one time
with your professor, you won't be able to hang around after class like you did in high school; you will have to make an appointment during his/her
office hours or correspond with him/her through email. High school tests usually occur more often, cover less material, and countless toward your
overall course grade than college exams do. In college, you will probably only have two or three exams per course, and they usually cover several
chapters and are worth a larger percentage of your final grade. Most of the time, your professors will not review exam material with you before the
test; it will be your responsibility to study your notes and

Essay On High School And College Essay
High School and College are two seriously different places where many different types of reading and writing skills are put to the test. In high school,
one may have been taught to construct the basic five paragraph essay those paragraphs included, an introduction, 3 body paragraphs and conclusion.
Since elementary we learn to write our papers that include an introduction/three–supporting–points/conclusion strategy and we should definitely. In my
time that I have been attending Fresno state I have experience 3 out of my 5 professor to forget that concept and explore new writing beyond the 5
paragraph essay. In college students are encouraged to break out of their comfort zone and break that 5 paragraph essay. When it comes to college
students must learn to always keep an opened mind to discover different and new writing skills. Although we have been taught this basic 5 paragraph
essay all those 12 years of school, one should not stay in the comfort zone and stick to writing in this format, one should expand, explore and develop
skills needed to write college level essays.
The placing of a thesis statements is key in writing an essay. In high school one is usually trained to included a thesis statement, somewhere at the end
of the very first paragraph. A thesis college statement all depends on choosing where it sounds best and where it makes the most sense. In college an
argument tends to be the thesis, this allows the reader to see how we feel about the topic. A thesis statement allows the reader a little glimpse of what
the writer is going to discuss throughout their essay. Research papers in high school might have involved some type of book report format, one just
informing the readers with facts about the topic, once again using the 5 paragraph method. High school students usually collect information from
bing, google, yahoo and etc. Argument based paper are the type of papers mostly written in college. During college writing one goal is to collect
sufficient amount of evidence that helps you make a point and prove it as well. Some college papers require citing reliable sources comparing sources
making sure they are all proving the same point. The internet is such a huge tool that college students use, but

Analysis Of High School Vs. College Essay Writing
When it comes to essay writing, college and high schools have different approaches during the writing process. In this online blog, "High School vs.

Her argument, compared to the other articles sort of disagree, stating that, "Yourwriting hasn't changed; college essay writing requirements are simply
different than those of high school essay writing" (Polina 2). Entering college there are multiple requirements for writing an essay, "Essays that were

High School vs. College As we go on in life we face many challenges and new situations that we deal with. A new situation that most people deal
with is college and all the changes that come along with it. What many people don't realize is that high school, in many ways, is similar and
differrent from college. Not only are people changing but the surroundings and work change as well. There are some things that seem to never
change such as some work and people. The majority of the work in college is very similar to high school. An example would be the Critical Thinking

Time management is big because you can be lazy and not take time to do work or you could take every moment to accomplish things you need to
do throughout the day.2 An example would be playing video games when you should actually be writing a paper or doing other important work.
This can make or break someone who is going off to college. In high school people usually fall into "cliques" or certain groups of people they hang
around with. College and high school are similar; an example is that if someone plays football tend to spend more time with each other. They
usually talk with one another or share a bond which no one else usually has. In high school people tend to do the same thing, kids group up with
either the jocks or other groups. People just make friends more easily if they have something in common. A big difference between college and
high school is a new place of living. When you're at home and going to high school your parents cook, shop, and make sure you do your work. At
college things are different; you have to do all those that you parents did at home. An example would be doing your laundry. Not many kids do their
own laundry, so when it comes to college, things are very different. That's why people say that when you're in college you tend to mature due to the
new style of living, which is living on your own. In college the amount of classes and the time you have to go for is different from

Thesis Statement – High school and college are similar but also very different. Education is a big part of people's lives. The average high school
student spends eight hours at school a day. These students attend school for 12 years. Most students continue their education after they graduate.
Which can be anywhere from one to twelve years or more depending on what one is going for. High school and college are very different but also
have a few similarities as well. In high school there are 2 types of schools, public and private. The main difference is source of funding. Public is
funded by the government so it is free to attend. Private schools are not funded by the government so they require a tuition for each student. Some

Classes are the second main reason high school differs from college. Classes in high school generally consist of no more that 25 students.
Counselors usually arrange your schedule the way they think is best for you. You are not responsible for knowing what it takes to graduate. Usually
the school year is 26 weeks long; classes may have to be taken the whole year in order to get credit for them. You are graded on most assignments done
in class. In college some classes may have from 75–100 students. It is your responsibility to enroll in the classes that are required for your major, plus
a week for final exams. The year is divided into two 14 week semesters; most classes need to be taken the complete semester in order to get credit.
College professors tend to grade students on tests and major papers. Responsibility has a lot to do when it comes to high school and college. When
you attend high school you are provided textbooks for each class. Your time is usually structured by others (parents and/or teachers). Many parents
are there to wake you up in the morning before school starts. In high school you are required to go to school everyday. You often read or hear
presentations once in order to learn what you need to know. Students are expected to read short stories at home which will be re–taught in class. When
in college you must pay for each textbook necessary for class.

High School Colleges Vs Small Colleges Essay
High School and Small Colleges When a High school student's leave College headed away from his or her small town homes they often assume

The transition from high school to college is not only an exciting and challenging time, but also a great milestone in one's life. There are several
differences between the lives of high school and college students. Some individuals will be able to jump right in and adjust to this change seamlessly,
while others may take years to adapt, or never even grab hold of the whole college experience at all. High school and College are both educational

People can really see the distinctive differences these two phase in life; however, there are also some similarities you will carry on during your

Studying habits such as cramming for test or homework, creating during a test or copying another student's homework, breaking the rules and
disciplinary sanctions are still evident in both high school and college.
We all know that everyone goes through high school and college. We can compare that college is much more challenging and complex than high
school. This is a higher level of learning, thus, requiring more time, effort as well as devotion to studies. Even though college is very tiring at times, I
still believe that college is much more enjoyable and exciting. To have that kind of freedom in your schedule is very rewarding; however, proper
judgment is a must since we are all mature students now.

The transition from high school into college is undoubtedly a very important time in the lives of many young people. It is a huge step, and a huge
change. There are some who cling to their fading high–school life, reluctant to let go and move on. Many of my friends would fall under this category.
Some of them seem more prepared for the increasingly near future than others, and they will have varying degrees of success in beginning their college
experience, be it near home or hours away. But Natalie is different than they are. Rather than getting caught up in the sentimentality of it all, she is
embracing the looming future with open arms.
Natalie Rogers is ready to move on. She is an 18–year–old senior at Coleman High School, and she feels absolutely prepared to move into the next
stage of her life. This puts her in the national minority. According to a country–wide survey, 45% of high school seniors feel prepared for college and a
career. She's not alone, however, in looking forward to the freedom and independence generally associated with college life. "I'm really excited that I
get to be on my own, make a lot of my own decisions, and kind of learn how to be independent. Because I haven't gotten a lot of that". One thing that
has become apparent to me is the value that Natalie places on independence.
However, in certain situations, she does consider herself to be dependent on others, sometimes very much so. I asked her if she considered herself to be

High School Vs College Essay

  • 1. High School Vs College Essay I am young, almost broke, and attending college. High school and college are different yet similar in some ways. Without a high school or college diploma, you can't get a job. To me, high school seems to be a free trail that lasts for four years. A way to find what you would like to do in life. College, on the other hand, is like finding what you want to do and paying for classes in order to reach your dreams and paying for classes that have nothing to do with what you would like to do in life. College is nothing like I imagined it to be. But because of the things I have experience in high school it makes me want to be more successful and gives me that drive to do better. In high school, my freshman year I was a horrible student. I couldn't adjust to the environment around me which caused my GPA to drop. I was so busy trying to fit it that I lost sight of what I was really there to do. I didn't go to class, study, or do any work needed to pass the class until it was almost too late. In high school, I was on top of the word everyone loved me or so I thought. Those that I thought were my friends were always the ones encouraging me not to go to class and go outside to eat or shop instead. I would cheat on test copy work just to keep up n the class, but it didn't matter I was going to end up in summer school, while all my so called friends enjoyed their summer working or vacationing. I would have to get up every day to go to summer school. I went to summer school At Douglas High Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Every student typically has a great high school career. Classes are not very difficult; AP courses are an exception. Student workload is minimal, obtaining good grades is not much of a struggle, and exams are typically easy to pass. Course load outside the class is no more then a few hours of homework each week. Teachers and faculty help facilitate a moderately laid back culture to learning. The school system supports students to make sure their performance in classes in adequate to move on and aid students who are behind. Teachers, will typically pass students, even when there is a lack of understanding. Senior year is no exception to this. Teachers realize that seniors have little motivation to do work, especially as they get...show more content... Sometimes at a computer controlling a projector as he/she presents new topics to discuss. Students sit quietly, doing their best not to converse, while the teacher is speaking, in fear of the common response, to "be quiet." Students have their pens, ready to write down the next important note. Likewise, the learning progress progresses similarly. Each course has a set curriculum that the teacher must follow and complete before the end of the course. Teachers follow textbooks, handouts, and chapters as they lead students through the required material. The path the teacher follows can vary because texts differ and teaching styles differ but the structure is always similar. For example, math topics follow corresponding chapters, as they build upon the previous ones. This becomes a routine learning style, but it is effective and the instructor has the ability to adjust it. The grading system is a fundamental part of education. The earliest recording of the commonly seen A through F grading system comes from Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts in 1877. This common system is still necessary. High schools all around the world follow this simple grading scheme to classify how a student is preforming in class and on the work he or she is turning in. Likewise, this system is what high schools and colleges use to grade students on the quizzes, tests, exams, and papers given periodically throughout the year. • 3. High School Vs. College Academic Writing Essay We have been told by many of our High School English teachers that being able to formulate the perfect essay will make transitioning into the college academic conversation much less challenging. But did they ever teach us how to write such a paper? Well, there was the five–paragraph essay only rule among all of your teachers, and if it did not contain facts or opinions it was unacceptable. That is where one of the many differences between high school English and college English lies. Within college academic writing students will have to know how to incorporate certified outside sources into their papers, be able to keep the reader interested on the topic, and have the ability to read academically. When was the last time you wrote a paper and actually had to do research on your own for a high school English class? Probably only once, or most likely, never. When you consider to do research on a topic that interests you, you have to make sure that your site is credible, and what does that mean? That it comes from a place that is not in any way bias about the topic. In Roane State's MLA: Using Sources Correctly, the authors are basically telling you that when using in–text quotations you are usually trying to use a specific phrase from the article to get your point across. For example, according to Roanestate.edu, "... in–text citation...using information from another source such as a fact, summary, or paraphrase to support...own ideas" (Roane State, 1). This means that by Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Essay on Comparing College and High School College and high school are not as different as one might think because they both share a common root: education. Most people will try to convince you that college is very different from high school. They would state all sorts of things to look forward to while graduating from high school to college. The housing situation, for example, is very different. In high school, (nearly) everyone lives at home, subject to their parents' rules and regulations. There are preset curfew times and limits to the types and sizes of parties that one could hold. But as it turns out, college is much like high school in many ways. Taking classes to educate oneself is the essence of both high school and college. And just as there are some (or...show more content... People might say that you have more free time in college, but in reality the extra time you spend studying in college during odd hours of the day does a nice job of filling in any holes in your schedule. Thus, in both college and high school, a person has a rigid schedule that is followed routinely nearly all the time. Both periods in a youth's life are said to be a time for experimentation, a time to discover oneself. In high school, teenagers are just starting to receive responsibilities such as driving. But they have a wonderful opportunity to try risky things while they are still minors and won't suffer the full legal consequences from any deviant behavior. College is virtually the same because by that time the students have full responsibility and independence. We all know that you are better able to experiment and discover things about yourself if you can be left alone. Even though it is through different reasons, college and high school both present youths with the ability to learn more about themselves. Another misconception is that the social life changes greatly when one moves on from high school. When examined more closely, it is obvious that just like in high school, college students will be around the same group of people for a four–year period. Everyone still gets into closely knit circles of friends. The only real difference is that there are more options of things to do with your Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Differences Between High School and College Essay It is often said, that high school, prepares a student for college. For certain, a student is being prepared, but only for what the world has to offer, and that is making choices on what to pursue. Certainly, most people would concur with this statement. But, the fact to consider is, that high school does not prepare a student for the major difference in the challenge. One difference in the area of challenge is the work. In high school, students are not challenged with assignments. Generally, an assignment in high school does not require much depth. When it comes to homework in high school, students are not assigned homework often. As well, in high school, most instructors do not promote the proper grammar, punctuation or...show more content... In college, there is a definite difference in expectation, and this is a major challenge. In high school, students are cradled by the teachers and administration. If a person is to fail an assignment, the students have as many chances possible to pass. In addition, if a student fails an exam, this will not mean that the student fails the course. Therefore, this causes major problems going to college. In college, most courses require that the student passes the exam with a certain grade determined by the school. In addition, for most courses in college, it is expected that the student gets a 55 or 60 percent in the course, depending on the course. Furthermore, in college, students are expected to learn quicker. What is meant by this is, that in high school, students are taught at a slower rate. Therefore, it is definite that in high school, having less expectation reflects in college, by causing more of a challenge for the student to adjust. Finally, achieving a high grade in college is more difficult than in high school. In high school, grades are easier to achieve and there are greater opportunities for marks. Usually, a student is graded on many different areas, including; attendance, participation, effort, and organization. Also, students are graded on evaluations and assignments. These are the areas which are graded, and these account for a large portion of the final Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. High School And College Essay It's no surprise that high school and college can be a really confusing and fun place. We're attempting to fit in while as yet learning things about ourselves, and who we truly are. There are hormones, drama, relationships, and plenty of growth. In college, I feel like the majority of people here are on a similar track. We all have a common goal, which is why I feel like I can be more of myself here. As a matter of fact, I'm more relaxed than I was in high school. Back then it was as if everyone was judging my every move. Two amazing stages of my life that I fully appreciate, however, as much as I've gained from the two experiences, college unquestionably has formed me into the individual I am today. With that being said, I'll clarify how my priorities and values are different in college than those I held when I was in high school. While being in high school, I didn't really appreciate all the time I had. I didn't have to work because my parent's made sure of that. I didn't take the proper time to study for my classes. Then again, they weren't really hard aside from math. I could look over a study guide during the first ten minutes of class and easily make a B on the test. In college, by contrast, I have to not only study twice as hard but also find distinctive examining techniques. I now realize time is everything. There's just so much to do between studying, working, procrastination, keeping proper nutrition to stay healthy, and trying to get a full eight hours of sleep Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. High School Writing Vs College Essay High school writing differs a great deal from college level writing. I feel like I was not prepared to take such a big leap. Writing was never a strong suit of mine since I never really knew how to make connections, come up with solid commentary, or transition between paragraphs. Another weakness of mines is my vocabulary. I feel like my vocabulary is not up to par with that of a college student, which is typically very elevated and intelligent sounding. However, I think it is just because I did not have a solid basis of writing. In high school, I succumbed myself to regular English classes to get an easy A rather than challenging myself by taking Honors or AP courses. It was not until my senior year in high school that I decided to enroll myself into Honors British Literature. Throughout my high school career, I never really had a course...show more content... For starters, in college a week is given to complete a paper, but in high school a week was given just to start brainstorming ideas. Of course there are higher expectations, but that was inevitable. The typical structure of a high school essay consists of five paragraphs: an introduction, three body, paragraphs, and a conclusion. In college there is basically no structure as you should write as much that content that most effectively conveys your idea and backs up your argument. I would have to say that college level writing focuses on more complex argument centered around a very detailed, but arguable thesis. I have learned that the research that I did in high school is not the most reliable type of research. In high school I would search up sources on Google and pick one that pertained to the topic at hand. However in college, I learned that you must pick credible sources that are written by professionals and experts. I now use the library database to provide my paper with the most reliable and credible Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. College Vs. High School College Vs. High School Some may think that high school and college reading and writing are similar and that it's just the next level up but it 's not, they differentiate in many ways. College reading and writing is more than that, it's a completely different world when compared to high school. It's much more advanced and complexed. Some ideas that can be compared are the way we annotate, understand text, assignment topics, the depth of research, and so on. This is important to understanding how much more you can get out of college vs. just getting a high school reading and writing education. In high school I got the opportunity to be involved in honors and AP English classes. Throughout those classes I was able to learn how to annotate, format (is key to writing a good essay), proper citations, personal words should not be added such as "I", "we", "us" "our". To annotate was to skim over and just write what you understand about the text in the margin. If you could have the format of the "beginning, middle, and end" then writing a two page/1,000 word minimum did not apply to grading. In writing a good essay, proper citations were a big chunk of writing an essay. Though, I never learned how to properly cite in the time given to learn it because I was not as advanced as other students. When writing an essay we were also never allowed to use personal words because that meant it would take away from the meaning and credibility of your essay. In my opinion writing in high school Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Going To College After High School Essay Daryon Robinson P.2 Mrs. Valenzuela 10/29/17 College debate essay I think everyone should get at least some education after high school. Three main reasons why you should go to college after high school is first you more professional when applying for a job, next you can meet more people and socialize, lastly is self discovery. First reason why you should go to college after high school is because of future opportunities. When applying for a job you wanna look your best and you want to look professional and experienced at whatever you want to do. Going to college after high school can prepare you for the real world and make you more responsible. The more experienced you look in whatever field you wanna do the jobs will be looking for someone with at least some experience. Also, you could find out what you really wanna do with your life. Going to college after high school you will know what career you want you want pursue. • 11. Although one might think that college is simply one step above high school, there are several differences between the two, and one must be prepared for what's ahead. This essay will discuss a few of the most important differences between high school and college. In high school, most of your classes were probably assigned to you and you were supplied with many of your classroom materials and books. You probably also had a guidance counselor telling you which courses to take and when. In college, it is your responsibility to sign up for the classes you need to take to graduate (if you need help with this, you will need to make an appointment with an advisor) and you are responsible for buying all class materials. Buyers beware...college...show more content... Many college professors don't take attendance or have the time to make sure all of their students are making passing grades in all of their courses. If you miss a class, plan on getting notes from a fellow classmate. If you attend a large college or university, your professors probably won't even try to remember your name, as they have hundreds of students each semester. If an assignment was due on a day you decided to miss class, there's a good chance your professor will not let you turn it in late. You are responsible for remembering important deadlines, as your parents will not be communicating with your professors, and will have no idea when your assignments are due. Also, remember that if you want some one–on–one time with your professor, you won't be able to hang around after class like you did in high school; you will have to make an appointment during his/her office hours or correspond with him/her through email. High school tests usually occur more often, cover less material, and countless toward your overall course grade than college exams do. In college, you will probably only have two or three exams per course, and they usually cover several chapters and are worth a larger percentage of your final grade. Most of the time, your professors will not review exam material with you before the test; it will be your responsibility to study your notes and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Essay On High School And College Essay High School and College are two seriously different places where many different types of reading and writing skills are put to the test. In high school, one may have been taught to construct the basic five paragraph essay those paragraphs included, an introduction, 3 body paragraphs and conclusion. Since elementary we learn to write our papers that include an introduction/three–supporting–points/conclusion strategy and we should definitely. In my time that I have been attending Fresno state I have experience 3 out of my 5 professor to forget that concept and explore new writing beyond the 5 paragraph essay. In college students are encouraged to break out of their comfort zone and break that 5 paragraph essay. When it comes to college students must learn to always keep an opened mind to discover different and new writing skills. Although we have been taught this basic 5 paragraph essay all those 12 years of school, one should not stay in the comfort zone and stick to writing in this format, one should expand, explore and develop skills needed to write college level essays. The placing of a thesis statements is key in writing an essay. In high school one is usually trained to included a thesis statement, somewhere at the end of the very first paragraph. A thesis college statement all depends on choosing where it sounds best and where it makes the most sense. In college an argument tends to be the thesis, this allows the reader to see how we feel about the topic. A thesis statement allows the reader a little glimpse of what the writer is going to discuss throughout their essay. Research papers in high school might have involved some type of book report format, one just informing the readers with facts about the topic, once again using the 5 paragraph method. High school students usually collect information from bing, google, yahoo and etc. Argument based paper are the type of papers mostly written in college. During college writing one goal is to collect sufficient amount of evidence that helps you make a point and prove it as well. Some college papers require citing reliable sources comparing sources making sure they are all proving the same point. • 20. The transition from high school into college is undoubtedly a very important time in the lives of many young people. It is a huge step, and a huge change. There are some who cling to their fading high–school life, reluctant to let go and move on. Many of my friends would fall under this category. Some of them seem more prepared for the increasingly near future than others, and they will have varying degrees of success in beginning their college experience, be it near home or hours away. But Natalie is different than they are. Rather than getting caught up in the sentimentality of it all, she is embracing the looming future with open arms. Natalie Rogers is ready to move on. She is an 18–year–old senior at Coleman High School, and she feels absolutely prepared to move into the next stage of her life. This puts her in the national minority. According to a country–wide survey, 45% of high school seniors feel prepared for college and a career. She's not alone, however, in looking forward to the freedom and independence generally associated with college life. "I'm really excited that I get to be on my own, make a lot of my own decisions, and kind of learn how to be independent. Because I haven't gotten a lot of that". One thing that has become apparent to me is the value that Natalie places on independence. However, in certain situations, she does consider herself to be dependent on others, sometimes very much so. I asked her if she considered herself to be an independent Get more content on HelpWriting.net
