ICF Colorado Newsletter
February 2015
Message from Dinah Snow
President, ICF Colorado
2015 is off to a fantastic start! We already
have an amazing docket of top notch
speakers confirmed for just about the entire
year, thanks to the fabulous Lisa Hale. Stay
tuned for the full line up.
Since we're always so busy at the monthly
meetings, I thought I'd take this
opportunity to formally introduce myself as
chapter President.
I am originally from the east coast – NY, TN
and VA and moved to Colorado over 20
years ago. I received my BS from Virginia
Commonwealth University and worked for
over 8 years in human services in the private, public and non-profit
sectors. My passion has always been singing, and I weave it into
coaching to help women own the power of their voice and use it in
ways they didn't think were possible. I began coaching 12 years ago
with a focus on Vocal Empowerment and Conscious Marketing and
received my coach training from CTI. I am going through an
amicable divorce after 10 years of marriage, and I have two kids,
ages 9 & 27 (a grown up, YIKES!). Besides singing and performing,
I have an obsession with tiny little houses on wheels (plan to build
one this year), I love to do yoga, hike and eat amazingly delicious,
healthy food.
My vision for ICF Colorado is to support our coaches in creating
thriving incomes. The motto for the year is "THRIVE." Let's
champion each other to have coaching businesses that feed our
souls AND our bank accounts, so we can all continue elevating the
consciousness and happiness of the planet.

February 12, 2015: Monthly Meeting
Date: February 12, 2015
Time: 6:00PM to 9:00PM
Speaker: Rick Griggs
Topic: "Brainstorming is Dead, try Rolestorming: A Global Creativity
and Problem Solving Tool"
Special Interest Groups (SIGs) will be conducted from 6:00PM -
6:50PM before the general meeting.
Location:
PPA Event Center, 2105 Decatur Street, Denver, CO 80211
CCEUs: 1.25 in Core Competencies
Brainstorming for innovation doesn't work.
At least, it doesn't work well enough. In
brainstorming participants run out of
ideas, limit what they allow themselves to
invent or express due to fear or
embarrassment, or they simply remain
uninspired. Yet, every single person has
access to creative and innovative solutions
to their own problems, to those of their
teams, and for those that their businesses
face. In fact, inventive ideas lurk in all of
us and role-storming gives us access to
them!
On February 12, 2015, Rick Griggs will teach, demonstrate and
engage our membership. We will have a new set of tools to use -
with Rick's blessing - in our professional engagements. This new
tool works well in both corporate engagements and with personal
coaching clients. Better still, this tool is one we can each use
ourselves as well. Come, and bring your guests - it will be a night of
insight!
With Degrees in Psychology and French, and a Master's in Business,
Rick Griggs coined "Balanced Mastery" to train leaders and
innovators in the U.S., Europe and Australia. After management
positions in Silicon Valley he founded Griggs Achievement and
Tantalus Books. His main offering is the Griggs Mastery Academy.

BUILDING YOUR COACHING BUSINESS SIG
February 12, 2015
6:00PM - 6:50PM
Facilitated by: Nancy Chen
6:00-6:30PM: We will review our Business Plans/ Phase I as a
group. Please come prepared by doing the HOMEWORK below
6:30-6:50PM: "Backstage Visit with Rick Griggs," our main session
speaker. Rick will share his experience and wisdom with us, as he
describes his career path, the challenges he encountered when he
first started his coaching business, and how he overcame them.
HOMEWORK - Develop a Business Plan, Part I, for your coaching
business. It should be 250-400 words in length and include: Your
VISION Statement; Your MISSION Statement; Your Guiding
Principles and/or Values; and What Sets Your Company Apart from
your competition. Research the definitions and best practices for
each section. Then go deep into the mind and needs of your target
prospects and identify what’s most important to your business to
include in your plan and discard the rest. Integrate your own values,
life purpose, and your calling into this document. It should answer
WHO are you? WHAT can I expect from you? and HOW will you
meet my needs? to your prospect’s satisfaction. This is a first draft;
it may not be perfect, but it should be as real as you can get it now.
It will be your guidepost as you build your business.
Nancy has an MBA in Marketing from The Wharton School, 10 years
in sales and marketing management, and 20 years as an
independent consultant and coach.
Mission – To ensure that new coaches build their business, improve
their coaching skills, market effectively and stay active and engaged
in ICF CO. The SIG will help new coaches chart a course toward
professional and financial success.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Charlie L. Barrett, C.P.C.
Marketing and sales have been my life. During my career, I operated my
own marketing firm and also taught "Marketing through Visual
Merchandising" at Colorado State University. I lectured at the University
of Nebraska, the Denver Merchandise Mart and other national trade
shows.
After semi-retiring, I traveled for a couple years, crossed off a few
"bucket list" items, then developed and followed a "personal evaluation"
program. With renewed passion, I set forth to utilize my learned skills and business expertise,
along with specialized "Life Coach" training, to assist others with transitioning to their "Post
Careers."

ARTICLE: "Taking Entrepreneurs to the Next Level" by Elisa Canova
Entrepreneurs are driven, passionate, and want to succeed - but can they
see when they are getting in their own way? Self-awareness is a critical
skill for successful leaders, yet in the fast paced world of entrepreneurship
it can feel tough if not impossible to carve out the time to clearly see the
impact our choices have on ourselves and those around us.

Membership in the ICF Colorado: New Member Sponsors Needed
As the Membership Director, it is my hope that new members are welcomed into our Chapter and
quickly find a home in our "family." To ensure this happening well, we are starting an experiment
called New Member Sponsors. A new member sponsor is someone who has been in the Chapter for
perhaps a year or more who will help welcome a new member and make sure they become
integrated into the life of the Chapter. For the first few months, the sponsor will befriend the new
member, become acquainted, introduce him or her to others in the Chapter, explain the various
benefits and programs of the Chapter, and perhaps have coffee or lunch with the person.
If you have been a member of our Chapter for a year or more, please consider becoming a New
Member Sponsor. It is a four-month commitment to make friends with someone and ensure that
they become actively involved in the Chapter. You will be provided with some orientation and
suggestions on how to best sponsor someone. Please contact Walt Hastings to express your
interest in welcoming new members. Call Walt at 303-526-9490 or e-mail him at
walthastings@hotmail.com.
Why Join ICF Colorado?
* A community of individuals committed to making a difference in the lives of their clients.
* Connect with other coaches.

* Receive valuable training each month that you can directly apply to your life or work with clients.

ICF Colorado Newsletter: February 2015

  • 1. ICF Colorado Newsletter February 2015 Message from Dinah Snow President, ICF Colorado 2015 is off to a fantastic start! We already have an amazing docket of top notch speakers confirmed for just about the entire year, thanks to the fabulous Lisa Hale. Stay tuned for the full line up. Since we're always so busy at the monthly meetings, I thought I'd take this opportunity to formally introduce myself as chapter President. I am originally from the east coast – NY, TN and VA and moved to Colorado over 20 years ago. I received my BS from Virginia Commonwealth University and worked for over 8 years in human services in the private, public and non-profit sectors. My passion has always been singing, and I weave it into coaching to help women own the power of their voice and use it in ways they didn't think were possible. I began coaching 12 years ago with a focus on Vocal Empowerment and Conscious Marketing and received my coach training from CTI. I am going through an amicable divorce after 10 years of marriage, and I have two kids, ages 9 & 27 (a grown up, YIKES!). Besides singing and performing, I have an obsession with tiny little houses on wheels (plan to build one this year), I love to do yoga, hike and eat amazingly delicious, healthy food. My vision for ICF Colorado is to support our coaches in creating thriving incomes. The motto for the year is "THRIVE." Let's champion each other to have coaching businesses that feed our souls AND our bank accounts, so we can all continue elevating the consciousness and happiness of the planet. IN THIS ISSUE: President's Message February 12, 2015: Monthly Meeting Special Interest Groups (SIGs) IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Charlie L. Barrett, C.P.C. ARTICLE: "Taking Entrepreneurs to the Next Level" Membership: New Member Sponsors Needed General Meeting Information ICF CO Meetup Groups Our ICF Colorado Meetup Groups are an opportunity for our community to continue conversations and keep communications going in-between our monthly meetings. ICF CO Meetup Groups currently in Boulder and Ft. Collins.
  • 2. As always, the success of our chapter is dependent on your support, so please volunteer, bring a fellow coach to one of our meetings, welcome a new member, and enjoy all the programming that we have to offer. Mark your calendar for this summer's Midwest Regional Conference, June 18-20: http://icf-midwest.com/. Registration opens Feb 1, and it fills up fast. And drumroll please ... yours truly will be singing the opening and closing invocations! Woo Hoo! Dinah Snow President, ICF Colorado Dinah@DinahSnow.com 303-499-0408 February 12, 2015: Monthly Meeting Date: February 12, 2015 Time: 6:00PM to 9:00PM Speaker: Rick Griggs Topic: "Brainstorming is Dead, try Rolestorming: A Global Creativity and Problem Solving Tool" Special Interest Groups (SIGs) will be conducted from 6:00PM - 6:50PM before the general meeting. Location: PPA Event Center, 2105 Decatur Street, Denver, CO 80211 CCEUs: 1.25 in Core Competencies Brainstorming for innovation doesn't work. At least, it doesn't work well enough. In brainstorming participants run out of ideas, limit what they allow themselves to invent or express due to fear or embarrassment, or they simply remain uninspired. Yet, every single person has access to creative and innovative solutions to their own problems, to those of their teams, and for those that their businesses face. In fact, inventive ideas lurk in all of us and role-storming gives us access to them! On February 12, 2015, Rick Griggs will teach, demonstrate and engage our membership. We will have a new set of tools to use - with Rick's blessing - in our professional engagements. This new tool works well in both corporate engagements and with personal coaching clients. Better still, this tool is one we can each use ourselves as well. Come, and bring your guests - it will be a night of insight! With Degrees in Psychology and French, and a Master's in Business, Rick Griggs coined "Balanced Mastery" to train leaders and innovators in the U.S., Europe and Australia. After management positions in Silicon Valley he founded Griggs Achievement and Tantalus Books. His main offering is the Griggs Mastery Academy. WHAT can I expect from you? and HOW will you meet my needs? to your prospect’s satisfaction. This is a first draft;

Facilitator: Judy Sabah judy@judysabah.com IN THE SPOTLIGHT Charlie L. Barrett, C.P.C. Marketing and sales have been my life. During my career, I operated my own marketing firm and also taught "Marketing through Visual Merchandising" at Colorado State University. I lectured at the University of Nebraska, the Denver Merchandise Mart and other national trade shows. After semi-retiring, I traveled for a couple years, crossed off a few "bucket list" items, then developed and followed a "personal evaluation" program. With renewed passion, I set forth to utilize my learned skills and business expertise, along with specialized "Life Coach" training, to assist others with transitioning to their "Post Careers." Click here to read more ARTICLE: "Taking Entrepreneurs to the Next Level" by Elisa Canova Entrepreneurs are driven, passionate, and want to succeed - but can they see when they are getting in their own way? Self-awareness is a critical skill for successful leaders, yet in the fast paced world of entrepreneurship it can feel tough if not impossible to carve out the time to clearly see the impact our choices have on ourselves and those around us.

ICF Colorado Membership in the ICF Colorado: New Member Sponsors Needed As the Membership Director, it is my hope that new members are welcomed into our Chapter and quickly find a home in our "family." To ensure this happening well, we are starting an experiment called New Member Sponsors. A new member sponsor is someone who has been in the Chapter for perhaps a year or more who will help welcome a new member and make sure they become integrated into the life of the Chapter. For the first few months, the sponsor will befriend the new member, become acquainted, introduce him or her to others in the Chapter, explain the various benefits and programs of the Chapter, and perhaps have coffee or lunch with the person. If you have been a member of our Chapter for a year or more, please consider becoming a New Member Sponsor. It is a four-month commitment to make friends with someone and ensure that they become actively involved in the Chapter. You will be provided with some orientation and suggestions on how to best sponsor someone. Please contact Walt Hastings to express your interest in welcoming new members. Call Walt at 303-526-9490 or e-mail him at walthastings@hotmail.com. Why Join ICF Colorado? * A community of individuals committed to making a difference in the lives of their clients. * Connect with other coaches. * Become engaged in the work of learning together and creating a strong community. * Receive valuable training each month that you can directly apply to your life or work with clients.
