2. Background
The color for the background will be magenta-esque – a combo of pink and purple
– to represent femininity, youth as well as chanelling the club/pub party vibe that
usually is presented through colored lights. Why purple tones? Because it fits the
notions of femininity really well as well as representing the night due it being a
cool tone (yet warmer than blues). It will look like a wall inside a room as opposed
to outdoors to reinforce the idea of clubs/performances.
3. LIGHTS
– I want the light to be bright, but not too bright. For that, I need all the three
lights present: key, fill and rim. The key light will be at a distance though so as to
not illuminate the model too much – because I want nothing to stand out but
more so to meld together to construct an image – kind of like a zeitgeist – of the
music scene in the city. There will also be an ambience light to highlight the
props in the still because they too form the meaning I want created in the
minds of people when they see the magazine.
– The lights will be covered with colored cellophane paper to create colored
lighting – purple/pinkey in this case to represent clubs/typical places where
musicians would perform as mentioned before in the previous slide.
4. COSTUME AND STYLING
– I want my model to be wearing a jacket, leather or dark denim as well as any to-
p and jeans to emulate the general ‘Rockstar’ outfit. I want her to be fully made
up with heavy dark eye make up, a bold lip color like red or dark purple with her
hair straightened to kind of just put together a very sleek, chic look. This
emphasis on a strong, bold makeover, other than echoing the ethos of a classic
frontwoman will also be attention grabbing and will most definitely catch the
browsing eyes of people looking for something to read.
5. PROPS
A purple neon light or string of lights will be placed in the background along with a
sofa/dark colored seat as well as a few CDs will be needed just to create a
character for the model as a believable musician. CDs – because they will instantly
give insight into the personality of the model – her music taste reflects her, which
is why it’s essential for it to be in the frame.
