commissioned in Spitak with an aggregate
capacity of 43.5 kW to meet the electricity
needs of Kindergarten No 2 and the
Municipality of Spitak.
Ÿ Four solar PV systems with an aggregate
power capacity of 42.9 kW were installed and
commissioned for 6 public consumers (Muni-
cipality, House of Culture, Library, Arts School,
Kindergarten No 1 and No 3) in Vayk.
Ÿ 19 knowledge sharing forums conducted with
the participation of more than 550 tenants,
schoolchildren and municipality staff (351 in
Spitak, 150 in Vayk). Participants were
updated on the survey results, AREEM Project
progress, financial model and implementation
steps. They also shared knowledge on energy
efficiency and energy saving.

10. GAGIK SAHAKYAN,
the Head of Spitak Community
expresses his opinion on AREEM Project
As a result of the energy efficiency
measures implemented within AREEM Project, 33
multi-apartment residential buildings of Spitak
Community have become energy saving. These
buildings will provide up to 30% energy saving
annually, while approximately 65% energy saving
will be registered in 5 buildings. Energy efficiency
measures implemented in Kindergarten N2 in
Spitak and installation of a solar photovoltaic (PV)
system with a capacity of 43.5 kW on the roof of
Kindergarten N2 will ensure significant energy
saving in the kindergarten and the Municipality of
Spitak. The Project also aimed at solving
environmental issues. Particularly as a result of
the Project, CO₂ emissions will reduce up to 20%.
In the scope of the Project, the relevant staff of
the Municipality was trained and has got
appropriate knowledge on the implementation of
sustainable energy development projects.
Awareness raising events conducted in the
community within the EU Sustainable Energy
Week, the training of schoolchildren on energy
saving and energy efficiency, knowledge sharing
meetings on energy efficiency and energy saving
practices have contributed to the increase of the
public awareness on the successful practices in
energy efficiency and the use of solar energy.
I deem it quite important that the residents of the
Project targeted buildings participate in the
further implementation of energy saving
measures by making monthly installments in the
special purpose budget account to be used for
the implementation of other energy saving
projects and measures.

12. TARO AVETYAN,
the Head of Vayk Community
on the importance of AREEM Project
The multi-apartment residential
buildings of Vayk town were built mainly 30-45
years ago and before the implementation of
AREEM Project the common areas (roof,
entrance, staircase, and basement) of those
buildings had never been renovated. Thus, the
Project implementation was on time and actual, as
the asbestos roofing of the buildings were in a
poor condition, and the rainwater penetrating into
the top floor apartments caused serious
discomfort to the residents.
At the same time, the lack of energy efficient
entrance doors and windows had a negative
impact on the temperature in the entrances and
apartments.
These factors significantly reduce the life of the
buildings. In this regard, apart from upgrading the
energy efficiency and energy saving in those
buildings, I deem the maintenance of the housing
stock in Vayk and the extension of the buildings'
operation life a very important achievement of
AREEM Project. The research of the real estate
market in the town shows that currently the price
of the buildings upgraded within the Project has
increased by 5-10%.
Thanks to the Project implementation, the
residents have integrated the energy saving
behavior as a new culture in their everyday
practice which is very actual and important in all
the areas of life.
