2. General Drawing Requirements
Drawing Information: Essential features for all welds shall be
completely described, either on the engineering drawing or
in referenced supporting document.

3.  Essential Information: For all the welds the engineering drawing or referenced
supporting documents shall specify the following.
1. Base material Type and condition at the time of welding.
2. Filler material type, composition or Autogenous weld ( i.e. without filler mat.)
3. Welding symbols per AWS A2.4
1. Weld location and extent of welding
2. Final weld contour and weld finishing requirement.
3. Special conditions shall be fully explained by added notes or
details on the engineering drawing.
4. Weld classifications ( Class A,B or C)
5. Weld sequence and techniques when applicable to control shrinkage
stresses and distortion
6. Dimensional controls required to assure final drawing dimensions
7. Alternate inspection methods

6. Before welding
 There should be a documented procedure to part cleanliness prior to
welding (MAY be added to Production Traveler or to a related document).
 Specify welded surface condition.
 Protection of cleaned materials.
During welding
 Time Limits- Is there a documented procedure to ensure that after cleaning,
all part details are welded within specified time limits?

7. After welding
 Traceability- Are welded parts traceable to the welding machine,
approved procedure, operator and inspector?

8.  Jigs, Fixtures, and Measuring Devices
 All jigs, fixtures and measuring devices must be recorded and SOP (Preventive
maintenance and verification ) and Validation reports must be prepared by the relevant
engineer.
 All devices relating to welding process must be calibrated annually.
 All jigs, fixtures and measuring devices users must be trained and added to skill matrix.
