Question 2 Evaluation
How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Location
We chose a remote location because we thought that this
would make the film appear most like a stereotypical
horror film. Because the research that we did implied that
a forest or any location where the characters are alone
would be suitable because this makes the scenario a lot
more intense because there is nobody else around to help
the characters in the tough situation.
This image is a good
example of how these
characters are in a
secluded area from the
fact that nobody else is
shown in the area that
they are in and so shows
vulnerability as they don’t
have anyone else to help
them.
Age Groups
The characters in our film represent teenagers, the film implies this when
the two characters speak to each other, they use an informal tone towards
each other when they speak. This implies that they are close friends
because of the way they speak to each other, they portray a sense of
strong friendship whilst they are running away from the ‘killer’. We tried to
recreate a close friendship between the two teenagers that are camping in
the woods with each other, and they have what seems like a close
friendship because of the tone of language they used when they are
speaking to each other.
This scene shows the two characters
working together as Scott climbs up
the tree to look to see if there was
anyone nearby and then Harry yells
up to him asking if he could see
anything. This shows us that the
characters have a relationship with
each other and therefore is
stereotypical of all teenagers getting
along and grouping together with
each other rather than doing things
Clothing
We decided as a group that we should do some research on
what teenagers aged 16-17 wore on a daily basis. The research
told us that the majority of teenagers in the UK wore a pair of
jeans and a hoodie. We thought that this would represent the
teenagers that live in the UK the most because of the choice of
clothing which makes the actors throughout the film look like
stereotypical teenagers that live in the UK. We thought that we
should dress the mysterious figure on the other end of the
phone in a big coat with a hood to hide his face from the
camera, we thought that he would represent a stereotypical
murderer seen in other films because he is keeping his identity
secret until later in the film.
Gender
Our movie goes against the stereotypes that are presented in some ways
as the males in the movie are seen running away from the killer which
shows they are instead weak rather than the stereotype that is given to
men of being powerful and strong, as the characters in this movie are
teenagers however it could be seen that they could be weaker due to their
younger age, however the two are both young and thin which means they
are also agile and so this allows one of them to climb up a tree to look at
the surrounding areas which could instead show power in terms of survival
techniques. In contrast to these two the killer is equipped with a weapon so
it’s impossible for them to fight back and so the person in the hood at the
end is shown more powerful to fit his male gender from the clothing he is
wearing shadowing his identity and from the fact that he has hired
someone to capture these people showing he is powerful as he has people
who do jobs for him.

  • 4. Clothing We decided as a group that we should do some research on what teenagers aged 16-17 wore on a daily basis. The research told us that the majority of teenagers in the UK wore a pair of jeans and a hoodie. We thought that this would represent the teenagers that live in the UK the most because of the choice of clothing which makes the actors throughout the film look like stereotypical teenagers that live in the UK. We thought that we should dress the mysterious figure on the other end of the phone in a big coat with a hood to hide his face from the camera, we thought that he would represent a stereotypical murderer seen in other films because he is keeping his identity secret until later in the film.
