2. HISTORY
• . Printing then began in China around 600 AD, with the block
printing press. These inventions, including the paper mill, set
the stage for the future technological developments that would
shape the print media industry. (Jingpao)
• “Printing also facilitated the dissemination and preservation of
knowledge in standardized form --- this was most important in
the advance of science, technology, and scholarship”
3. Johannes Gutenberg
• He invented the movable type printing press, books were
painstakingly handwritten, and no two copies were exactly the
same.
• The printing press made the mass production of print media
possible.
• Not only was it much cheaper to produce written material, but
new transportation technologies also made it easier for texts to
reach a wide audience.
4. WHAT IS PRINT
MEDIA?
• Print media are lightweight, portable,
disposable publications printed on
paper and circulated ah physical copies
in forms we call books, newspaper,
magazines and newsletters.
• They hold informative and entertaining
content that are of general or special
interest. They are published either once
daily, weekly, biweekly,

10. PROCESS FLOW OF DELIVERY
• Print media must get into the hands of the customer, the person
who reads the material and responds to the advertisements. Home
newspaper delivery does this in most areas..
• Mail delivery is another method. In fact, bulk mail delivery of
printed newspapers, magazines, brochures and newsletters
represents one of the U.S. Postal Service's biggest revenue
sources.
• Other methods are door-to-door delivery and distribution at places
of large public gatherings: stores, sporting events, schools and
even on busy sidewalks.
11. Contribution in our Literacy
• Because the printing process ensured that the same
information fell on the same pages, page numbering, tables of
contents, and indices became common.
• The process of reading was also changed, gradually changing
from oral readings to silent, private reading.
• This gradually raised the literacy level as well, revolutionizing
education.
