3. Camera Distance
In this music video the majority of the camera distance is medium shots, this is common thing to see in
these types of music videos because it is filming a performance, so if an audience was there by using this
camera distance you might be able to feel the same as they would if they were there.
Another camera distance that is used is close ups of the instruments, mainly guitars, which show the
audience that they are actually playing the instruments which adds to the performance that is often the
main focus of the genre in the videos.
4. Use of Angles
In this video there isn’t a wide use of camera angles as the shots used are long
distance shots and through out the video the band are positioned in the
middle/upper third of the frame which means that they are always a eyeline match
with the viewers. However during the live performance section a low angle shot is
used very slightly but it is still a convention that is seen in rock music videos. This
camera angle is used in music videos because it helps the viewers imagine what it
would be like to be there in the audience because if they were there they would be
looking up at them on stage.
5. Camera Movements
The main camera movement used in this video is panning, by doing this it gives
the viewers a chance to see everybody in the band. Even Though longshots are
used which allows you to see everybody in the band, by panning across the band
it allows the viewers to see each band member performing. This is because the
panning movement has been combined with close ups and medium shots which
results in having individual focus on band members because you see them one at
a time and not just a shot of the band.
6. Costume and Props
The colour scheme of the costumes in this video are linked in with the genre because they are wearing
dark colours which are associated with the rock genre. This is because they are wearing blacks and greys
which represent the rock genre as they are dark colours that you would see in other music videos in the
genre, albums and on magazines because if somebody doesn't know who the band is they could
recognise the genre because of the colour of the clothing.
Then even though the main focus is on the performance of the artists they decided to use their
instruments, by doing this it increases the performance level because the instruments link in with the
music and the style of video.
7. Locations
The music video links in with the conventions of a rock music video because it is
set outside in a simple location. This is because they are often set in cities or the
countryside where the surroundings are simple so that the main focus in on the
performance of the band.
8. Representations through the mirco elements
I would say that through the mise-en-scene the video has been represented as
rock because of the clothes that they are wearing. Also when they are performing
in front of a crowd a common convention of including live performances in a video
is used.
Then through the cinematography the video fits the rock genre because close ups
are used of them singing and playing the instruments which enhance the
performance level, which is the main focus of the video.
