2. Short takes: this holds the audience’s attention because if they blink then
they miss what has just happened. Other indie music videos are similar to this
with the short scenes and cutting to very different things, then cutting back to
the previous one. These cuts almost always are in time with the music.
The song “Fossils” is the only sound heard throughout the video, no diegetic
sound is heard throughout the piece.
3. Jump cuts: show the sporadic nature of the band and the situations. Jumping
quickly from shot to shot, it shows the spontaneous mind set of the band
members.
Old camera- used or filter over, can also be seen in many other indie music
videos the artists know that this works and fits to the demographic of people
that are targeted.
4. There is very little mise en scene as the shots look like they have been taken
over a long space of time, this also means that the continuity is not
maintained throughout the video.
Many indie bands use both colour and black and white in their music videos,
which is what circa waves have done, this fits with the convention of indie
music videos.
5. At the end of the music video four words are written in white writing over the
top of the scenes, “true love circa waves” all come up one after the other.
Pov/ hand held camera for the audience it makes it seen as if they are the
once filming and more immersed in the video. This gives the music video a
homemade feel reminding the audience of their own family home movies.
6. The audience its intended for is a young to mid teen audience, focusing
throughout the whole of the video it shows parties, hang outs, drugs and the
band practicing.
There is no narrative to this music video it is just different shots creating no story.
The band members are represented to be having lots of fun and doing many
things, from traveling to having parties to band practice. The audience will feel as
if they are friends with the band and are getting an insight to their lives. They will
also look up to the band and think that that’s what they want to be doing when
hanging out with friends.
7. From looking at this music video I would like to use the short shots this is because it fits
with my genre of music I have picked. In this shot a mid shot is used to represent a feel
of personal connection with the artist, bringing the audience closer to the characters
and creating a more personal feel to the scene as a whole.
