Changes Made Based On Feedback
• Some of the changes were instrumental for my front cover & double page spread to
become more formal & more conventional in terms of the structure, layout &
terminology used within interviews. What I mean by this is that I have added a
promotion which is a ticket giveaway which will hopefully encourage the potential
customers to buy our magazine and therefore be intrigued by the promotion.
• Another change which I have made is to make the double page spread interview more
conventional as Eminem would not speak at a formal language as he is a
rapper/singer, so I changed the terminology so that Eminem’s answers actually
sounded like they were from him.
• In conclusion, I found these changes to be the most significant in terms of the
improvement of the magazine and therefore as a result of these changes my music
magazine designs have vastly improved to a point where I can compare them to
conventional music magazine front covers & double page spreads such as MOJO,
NME & Kerrang which are all established organisations.
Feedback from head publisher
These are some feedback comments in which I have received from the publisher in
order to improve my pitch/presentation. I can clearly see that the publisher has
suggested that I should make improvements based on the teacher feedback in which I
have done as I have slightly altered the costs of the salaries in order to fairly meet the
requirements, this feedback has made me realise that I need to gather the feedback
from survey monkey which I have done in order to evaluate how people thought my
presentation went in terms of the content, suitability & optimization of my
pitch/presentation.
Feedback (Survey Monkey)
Above are 2 questions which were from my feedback
questionnaire &the majority of the responses were
positives with the exception of some negatives but I will
take on those negatives on board so that I can turn
those negatives into positives. Furthermore the very first
question from my questionnaire was “Was all of the
content fully understood within my presentation?”, Out
of 9 people, 8/9 answered Agree, with 1 audience
member voting Disagree which hopefully we can find
out what parts of the presentation he did not understand
as it may be how I come across when pitching this idea
for a UK Music Magazine. The next question was as
follows “Was there any content that could be added to
the presentation?”, out of 9 people, 2/3 of the audience
said yes and 1/3 said no, I am looking to see what kind
of content I should be adding in order to make this
presentation better so that my idea for a UK Music
Magazine becomes more viable and more likely for
publishers to join us.
Survey Monkey Analysis
Now I will be talking about the
main feedback in which I have
received, this feedback is very
beneficial to the improvement
of my music magazine. An
example of this is that one
particular consumer has
strongly advise me to alter
some of the features on my
music magazine designs which
are known as the front cover
and double page spread.
Feedback (Survey monkey)

the responses were positives with the exception of some negatives but I will take on
those negatives on board so that I can turn those negatives into positives. Furthermore

and more likely for publishers to join us.
Changes to calculations
As you can see this was the improved version of my costs
however the publisher who I pitched informed me that he
did not know how I got these costs so I had to break them
down even further e.g. include sources. The image to the
left of me was the original profit/loss breakdown, but we
and the publisher in who we pitched to felt that I needed to
review my profit/loss breakdown as it seemed too brief in
terms of where did I get the costs from.
To the left of me is the before changes of costs in which I
did use websites for these costs but the websites now
seem unreliable as the publisher in who I pitched to has
informed me that the costs look very unrealistic for the
requirements I have defined for each role. I have
therefore taken these comments on board and improved
the costs which is the image above in order to make the
costs more satisfaction for the publisher.
Changes Based On Feedback
As you can see, I have re done the
profit/loss breakdown and have
incorporated even more costs in order to
solidify my profit/loss becoming more
legitimate. I have accumulated how many
magazine sales I am projecting to have
over the year and how many copies we
need. In the top image, it demonstrates
simple advertisements of a full page, a full
page advertisement page & half of a page
in order to gain income from advertisement
which you can clearly see I have
accumulated as there are variety of
advertisements in our music magazine.
Survey Monkey Feedback
The last question in this questionnaire which I
formatted to the entirety of the audience which
states “Do you have any other comments,
questions or concerns?” The audience voiced
their concerns and comments one of the
comments was “Very well presented in a
confident and persuasive manner, he didn’t read
from a script and the eye contact with the
audience was impressive” the comment was
very pleasing and satisfying for me, but also the
publisher voiced his concern in the following
“Instagram page set up had a screen grab with
ruler lines in the image, salaries were too low,
source?, could you provide a clearer breakdown
of costs/income, advertising £1.5m, how?, full
page?, half page?
Survey Monkey Feedback
• The comments that the main publisher
has voiced to me was very helpful as
with his constructive criticism will
hopefully help me make my pitch in
future presentations more appealing
towards other publishers. I especially
think in order for my music magazine to
become visibly appealing to potential
investors, I would definitely need to
improve my front cover and double page
spread in order to achieve this goal and
for publishers/investors to become much
more enticing and appealing towards the
publisher.
Survey Monkey Feedback
• One of the comments in which I
received from one member of the
audience was the following:
"Salaries were too low especially
when you stated you want to recruit
high calibre candidates". As a result
of this comment, I have changed
the salary in order to meet the level
of workers we are looking to hire for
our Music Magazine. (The image
below indicates the before and after
changes that I have made)
Survey Monkey Feedback
• The main response from the first two questions of my survey monkey questionnaire was
that the majority of the responses were positives with the exception of some negatives
but instead of looking at the positives and just leaving it there I will be mainly looking the
negatives and taking them on board before even acknowledging the positives. The
opening question which I will be analysing from my questionnaire was “Was all of the
content fully understood within my presentation?”, Out of 9 people, 8/9 answered Agree,
with 1 particular audience member voting Disagree which hopefully we can find out
what parts of the presentation he did not understand. The next question was as follows
“Was there any content that could be added to the presentation?”, out of 9 people, 2/3
of the audience said yes and 1/3 said no. Again I am looking to find out what type of
content needs to be added to enable me to generate more appeal towards a different
publisher team.
Survey Monkey Feedback
• I recently underwent a pitch presentation to a publisher in which I attempted to present
an idea to a publishing company, and this evaluation will be feedback which has been
given to me via a publisher which include Prezi, survey monkey and a written report. I
received feedback through survey monkey in which the audience who witnessed my
presentation were able to voice their opinion on what went well, and what I needed to
improve in order for my idea to become more appealing in future pitches and most
importantly for when it comes to publishing. From the feedback it was strongly
identified to me that the main strengths were the various plans, an example of this is
the photography, production schedule and mood boards. Now the weaknesses have
been also identified towards me in which the main priority were the calculations for the
profit/loss, but also the front cover and double page spread need some development in
terms of the common features which need to be included, for example puff promotion
is what I am lacking on my front cover and on my double page spread there are a few
gaps in the columns and the page number/web address needs to be formatted and this
will be done.

What changes did I make to my Production
Schedule based on the feedback & why?
There are two screenshots of completely
different Production Schedule, the one above
this text is a first draft Production Schedule &
the one to the right of this text is a much
adapted and much improved Production
Schedule which is better in a variety of different
ways. For example I have shown the cost of
each day in which I have formatted into the
Budget Costs section in which you can clearly
see the cost and this is evident as this is not
shown in the first draft version of the
Production Schedule.
What changes did I make to my Production
Schedule based on the feedback & why?
Due to the feedback that I had received, I felt
that I needed to make vast changes to my
Production Schedule in order to fit the standard
requirements. So I have clearly listed the
equipment that is needed within that section.
This is very important as we need to know what
equipment that we need on the specific day that
we need it and this is imperative as we don’t
want people to be confused and not know what
they are doing. Furthermore this equipment
required section does not show on the old draft
of the Production Schedule.
What changes did I make to my Production
Schedule based on the feedback & why?
As a result of the feedback in which I was given,
I needed to change and adapt my old production
schedule into a new one so it could look
professional. In addition to this, we needed to
format in not only the equipment required but the
people that needed to be involved for that
specific day so that those people that are
involved know exactly what they are doing and
they also know the exact program that they want
to use. This is very important as we don’t want
people to be confused with who they are working
with and what programs and equipment they are
using to carry out this activity.

ASA & IPSO Legal & Ethical Issues
Source: https://www.ipso.co.uk/IPSO/cop.html
I must make sure that my music magazine avoid publishing information within our
articles that are “inaccurate, misleading or distorted information which includes pictures”,
what this means is that my music magazine cannot publish stories that are untrue and
we must publish stories/articles that are 100% true. Furthermore if my music magazine
have incorrectly stated something which is untrue about a pop star in the music industry,
the IPSO will most likely send us a letter regarding us to change the error immediately
which can remove the risk of hindering the reputation of my music magazine. In order for
our music magazine to avoid any legal or ethical issues with the public, we must abide
by these clauses for example our articles must be genuine and we must make sure that
we make it very clear and understandable between a fact and a comment.
ASA & IPSO Legal & Ethical Issues
Source: https://www.ipso.co.uk/IPSO/cop.html
“The Clause 1 Accuracy” makes a few statements in which our magazine alongside with
other music magazines will need to follow and abide by in order to not become
reprimanded by organisations such as the ASA & IPSO as they represent the Legal &
Ethical Issues that are demonstrated below. In addition to this, our music magazine must
make sure that if we do state news within our music magazine it must be all true and no
content within the news that we provide will be false as that it also within this Clause .
This is applicable to our music magazine in relation to the truth content within our music
magazine as we MUST NOT make up answers just because we think that the answers
that were given to us were not good enough. In conclusion we must follow and abide by
these rules to sustain a good reputation in terms of the legal and ethical issues & to also
not to be reprimanded.
ASA & IPSO (Legal & Ethical Issues)
• Source: https://www.ipso.co.uk/IPSO/aboutipso.html
• A music magazine such as Kerrang, NME, Q, Clash and so on would need to review
their advertising for their own products, or their own personal made magazine and they
would review this by taking it up with the IPSO in which the IPSO would see if the
advert is suitable to publish. An example of this would be if a product was advertised
before going through the process, then the likely outcome would be that the company
that have published this product would be fined, and also reprimanded for this legal
obligations that they have broken.
• My newly designed music magazine will need to know the constraints and boundaries
of the IPSO which can influence the reputation for my music magazine, for instance if
an advertisement of my music magazine is deemed as unsuitable for my chosen age
range, a group of parents, senior members of public may report this sensitive report of
this poorly managed advert.
Ethical & Legal Issues that apply to our
Music Magazine
• Source: https://www.ipso.co.uk/IPSO/index.html
• There are a variety of issues that apply to our music magazine whether they are
ethical or legally.
• Firstly we must make sure that all of the information and content within our magazine
is NOT false nor in accurate, furthermore we must clearly outline what is a fact if we
decide to put certain content within our music, an example of this could be that WE
MUST provide tour date information which is true because if we don’t we are fooling
the fans and it could also have financial implications on our music magazine in the
long term.
• Another example of a ethical/legal issue which applies to our music magazine would
be if we were to go ahead and review a music single, or an album WE MUST then be
fair and equal to the artist/band in hand and if we were to be negative towards their
single/album we must justify our reasons and reach a settlement.
IPSO Clause 3 Privacy
• Source:
https://www.ipso.co.uk/IPSO/cop.ht
ml
• This specific clause is a
screengrab from the “IPSO Editors
Code of Practice” in which all
music magazines must follow this
clause along with other clauses.
Within this clause, we must ask
permission to interview or to even
go to the music star’s house
before even getting the opportunity
to speak to them. This is vitally
important as we must not break
this clause/editors code as we
would most likely be reprimanded
if we chose to do so.
Interview for Permission Document
IPSO Clause 3 Privacy
• Source:
https://www.ipso.co.uk/IPSO/cop.ht
ml
• Another section within this clause
(privacy) is that for our news
column we are not allowed to
secretly take pictures/images of
the music stars without their
permissions as it is against their
rights as humans and without their
consent we are NOT allowed to
take photographs of them whether
that it is at their private home or in
a public place.
IPSO Editors Code of Practice
• Overall, all music magazine must follow all of the codes of practices which includes the
clauses and this may be anything from the music star’s privacy to the accuracy of the
content which is planning to be used within the music magazine in hand. Furthermore
in order for music magazines to avoid trouble whether that is legal or ethical trouble
they must not only follow but also abide by the rules and regulations as if we and other
music magazine follow and abide by these rules and regulations correctly in order to
maintain and sustain a good reputation and to also not get reprimanded by the ASA &
IPSO.
How to make complaint to IPSO &
ASA• ASA:
• Source: http://asa.org.uk/Consumers/How-to-complain.aspx
• Firstly, the person complaining must be 100% sure that the complaint needs to be
covered by the ASA.
• Once this is sorted out, you can simply complain online, via phone or even write to the
ASA all suitable options.
• The ASA will then grant the name of the person who will deal with you complaint and
what steps you are taking in order to grant this complaint.
• The ASA have a very strong reputation of finding a solution to complaints, but these
complaints do not have a specified time period of how long it should take, an example
of this is that it could be a very short amount of time or even a very long amount of
time.
• A formal investigation should be made where the ASA will contact all parties which
need to be contacted in order to try and find some evidence to further support the
complaint.
• ASA always publish their rulings and the solution to all of the complaints, furthermore
they take every step in order to make sure that the decision is suitable towards all
parties involved in this.
IP (Intellectual Property)
• Source: https://secure.copyrightservice.co.uk/register/reg_online
• The intellectual property is vitally important and the IP will be on not only my front
cover and double page spread but also on all of the social media pages that we have
provided. This will enable the fans to go and view the page to like the image/post
which is in reference to the Instagram post & in reference to twitter, they can follow the
music stars which will be featuring within our music magazine.
• With the IP being an element within the social media sites, it allows the fans to
communicate with their idols on a more personal level & this also allows the music
stars to communicate with the fans so it works both ways. Furthermore both Instagram
& Twitter enables the music stars to keep increasing their fan base with the help of our
magazine increasing their profile & by us promoting their social media sites, the music
stars will accumulate more followers and therefore sustain a good rapport with us and
their fans.
• To register the IP on the social media sites that you want, you would need to go
through the process of registering the Intellectual Property via on an online registration
or you can register via postal. However the online form and the postal form is very
similar in the sense that you need to fill out the details you want to get protected for the
social media sites that we would want, for example Twitter & Facebook.
Water Mark
• Watermarking is an essential guide on how to catch third parties out illegally
using our pictures without our permission in which is very important to make
sure that we are a secure music magazine in terms of legal issues. This is
very important as we don’t want to have a reputation of a company that can
be easily infiltrated in terms of our images from our music magazines Front
Cover & DPS.
Registering Water Mark
• Source: http://www.steves-digicams.com/knowledge-center/watermarking-
and-copyrighting-your-photographs.html
• You would need to Water Mark your work in order to not make them easily
gained from the public, you need to obviously avoid this situation as if we
were to take a picture for our music magazine and post it on Instagram. We
would need to Water Mark it in order to control what happens to our image,
now this is very important as if a certain organisation wants to use a specific
image which is controlled and Water Marked by us they would need to pay a
fee towards us in order for them to gain this image for us.
Registering Copyright
• Source: https://secure.copyrightservice.co.uk/register/reg_online
• There are a variety of ways to register your work otherwise known as “Copyright
Registration” and these are Register by post, International Protection & Register
online. Now the most common way for music magazines to register their music
magazine is online as very fast and very cheap to submit and register your work.
• During this registration you will need to fill in some forms and within this you will need
to upload all of the files in which you want protected. Once the payment has been
done, you will have to upload part of the files in order to confirm some evidence of the
acquisition that has just taken place. There is no limit on the amount of data/work that
you want to upload and be protected.
Safe Working Practices
• The standard safe working practices that any type of music magazine are that in
relation to the Front Cover & Double Page Spread, we would need to be wary of the
location of the images so that there are no serious hazards that could occur during the
process of photography takes place for our Front Cover & Double Page Spread. For
example, I would need to make sure that there is a clear space in reference to the
location so that either we or the music star do not trip which could increase the chance
of injury.
• Any music magazine have all types of working practices whether that is productive, or
technical. Photoshop would class themselves within the Technical Safe Working
Practices as some of the tools are different from others and they function in different
jobs. For example, the quick selection tool is a safe working practice along with other
tools as the quick selection tool allocates you to be able to click on an object and to
move it to where you want, furthermore the text tool is also a safe working practice as
it allows you to easily read the input text without any hassle.
Evidence of Safe Working Practices
In relation to Safe Working Practices, we had to make sure that mistakes were down to
a minimal so we needed to make sure that the camera was fitted onto a tripod so it was
easy to not only manoeuvre the camera to whatever we want, for example to try different
camera angles for our music magazine. This is a safety procedure as the tripod enables
the camera to definitely not fall and therefore preventing the camera from hitting the
floor.
Data Protection Act
• Source: https://www.gov.uk/data-protection/the-data-protection-act
• This particular act controls how your own personal information is used by businesses
and organisations in order to utilize the data to compare their data to other data they
have within their organisation. All music magazines would need to make sure that the
information is not only fair but also not false so that the content of our Front Cover &
Double Page Spread is accurate to the point where our content is deemed as
accurate.
• Our Double Page Spread interviews must also be kept safe and we MUST make sure
that no one gets their hands on an exclusive interview with a world music star as they
may leak the information either online or they may decide to use our interview as
there’s for the near future.
Copyright
• Prior to producing our music magazine, we as well as other conventional music
magazines would need to make sure that we are fully aware of the copyright laws. As
a result of this, we would also need to make sure we contact the companies that we
are planning to use images for and make sure we get their permission for the use of
their own images.
• However an copyright law which we need to be aware of also is that we need to make
sure we show evidence of the acceptance from the company of the logo that we are
planning to use & our magazine will need to use this logo within the masthead, & on
the Front Cover & Double Page Spread. Lastly, we will fill out a copyright form in order
to finalise this.
Print Media Case Study
• Source:
http://www.theguardian.com/law/2013/oct/14/european-
court-human-rights-attacks-uk-newspapers
• The European court of human rights is accusing some notable British
newspapers in which one is Daily Mail of printing “seriously misleading”
reports. An example of one of the reports suggested that Mustafa Abdi
received “£7,237” where in reality this man was granted £1,280. Furthermore,
the European human court of rights have published some examples within
the source above on what the Daily Mail have over exaggerated this story
regarding the amount of money the government have to pay to exile this man
from our country.
Music Industry
Case Study In Association With
CopyrightSource: http://99designs.com/designer-
blog/2013/04/19/5-famous-copyright-infringement-
cases/
Within the music industry, a particularly famous and
controversial case was deemed as: Vanilla Ice VS David
Bowie/ Freddie Mercury. This case originally started in
1991 when Vanilla Ice came out with the hit which was
called “Ice Ice Baby” which is very notoriously known to
be confused as of who actually wrote this famous song.
When sampling the song Vanilla Ice did not choose to
credit the artist who originally wrote this song and this
was David Bowie. As time went on, Vanilla Ice later
reviewed statement saying that it was an act of
attempted humour, this therefore lead to a settlement in
court in which Vanilla Ice paid an undisclosed amount of
money and therefore crediting David Bowie & Queen for
the song that he sampled and released.
Calendar Events
• Music Magazines or just Magazines in general will look to utilize any festival periods
such as Easter or Christmas in order to help increase customer sales in that specific
time period. My music magazine will be released on the 1st of December and we have
chosen to do this so that people who are not even interested in music magazines can
buy our magazine for people that they would like to give it to through the form of a
present. This is a very conventional method for music magazines as they like to
increase their readership figures in order for our music magazine to become more
reputable in the near future. Therefore we will be capitalizing on this opportunity and
therefore for our debut issue of our music magazine, we will be adding some
Christmas designs and updates to our music magazine e.g. free content and the whole
magazine will be a Christmas design.
Witness Statement Comments
• The witness statement comments are from the Head Publisher in which I presented to
who is Mr Crafts. He kindly gave me these comments in order to improve my pitch and
these comments were very helpful as I was able to improve my pitch in terms of the
Front Cover & Double Page Spread layout & design alongside with improvements &
tweaks about he costs which needed to be fitted into the job roles and responsibilities
that were outlined.
• Additionally, these comments also have guided me to improve the content of my pitch
in order to better my pitch for potential investments pitches in the near future. These
comments are significant to the progress of our idea for a music magazine and his key
comments could be massive in terms of us actually getting a publisher.
Image of Witness Statement Comments
Conclusion
• Within this unit I have covered a variety of topics in which I have learned a lot of
information in which you need when producing a music magazine and this is anything
from the copyright involved for examples logos & images to the actual production plan
& schedule when creating a music magazine. I would definitely say that my pitch for
my presentation was very good which therefore prepared me very well for what I as
talking about, however some of the calculations of the budgets were unrealistic in
relation to the job roles and responsibilities & therefore I had to make changes to
correct these amendments.

  • 5. Changes Made Based On Feedback • Some of the changes were instrumental for my front cover & double page spread to become more formal & more conventional in terms of the structure, layout & terminology used within interviews. What I mean by this is that I have added a promotion which is a ticket giveaway which will hopefully encourage the potential customers to buy our magazine and therefore be intrigued by the promotion. • Another change which I have made is to make the double page spread interview more conventional as Eminem would not speak at a formal language as he is a rapper/singer, so I changed the terminology so that Eminem’s answers actually sounded like they were from him. • In conclusion, I found these changes to be the most significant in terms of the improvement of the magazine and therefore as a result of these changes my music magazine designs have vastly improved to a point where I can compare them to conventional music magazine front covers & double page spreads such as MOJO, NME & Kerrang which are all established organisations.
  • 6. Feedback from head publisher These are some feedback comments in which I have received from the publisher in order to improve my pitch/presentation. I can clearly see that the publisher has suggested that I should make improvements based on the teacher feedback in which I have done as I have slightly altered the costs of the salaries in order to fairly meet the requirements, this feedback has made me realise that I need to gather the feedback from survey monkey which I have done in order to evaluate how people thought my presentation went in terms of the content, suitability & optimization of my pitch/presentation.
  • 7. Feedback (Survey Monkey) Above are 2 questions which were from my feedback questionnaire &the majority of the responses were positives with the exception of some negatives but I will take on those negatives on board so that I can turn those negatives into positives. Furthermore the very first question from my questionnaire was “Was all of the content fully understood within my presentation?”, Out of 9 people, 8/9 answered Agree, with 1 audience member voting Disagree which hopefully we can find out what parts of the presentation he did not understand as it may be how I come across when pitching this idea for a UK Music Magazine. The next question was as follows “Was there any content that could be added to the presentation?”, out of 9 people, 2/3 of the audience said yes and 1/3 said no, I am looking to see what kind of content I should be adding in order to make this presentation better so that my idea for a UK Music Magazine becomes more viable and more likely for publishers to join us.
  • 8. Survey Monkey Analysis Now I will be talking about the main feedback in which I have received, this feedback is very beneficial to the improvement of my music magazine. An example of this is that one particular consumer has strongly advise me to alter some of the features on my music magazine designs which are known as the front cover and double page spread.
  • 9. Feedback (Survey monkey) • Above are 2 questions which were from my feedback questionnaire &the majority of the responses were positives with the exception of some negatives but I will take on those negatives on board so that I can turn those negatives into positives.
  • 10. Feedback (Survey Monkey) • The next question was as follows “Was there any content that could be added to the presentation?”, out of 9 people, 2/3 of the audience said yes and 1/3 said no, I am looking to see what kind of content I should be adding in order to make this presentation better so that my idea for a UK Music Magazine becomes more viable and more likely for publishers to join us.
  • 11. Changes to calculations As you can see this was the improved version of my costs however the publisher who I pitched informed me that he did not know how I got these costs so I had to break them down even further e.g. include sources. The image to the left of me was the original profit/loss breakdown, but we and the publisher in who we pitched to felt that I needed to review my profit/loss breakdown as it seemed too brief in terms of where did I get the costs from. To the left of me is the before changes of costs in which I did use websites for these costs but the websites now seem unreliable as the publisher in who I pitched to has informed me that the costs look very unrealistic for the requirements I have defined for each role. I have therefore taken these comments on board and improved the costs which is the image above in order to make the costs more satisfaction for the publisher.
  • 12. Changes Based On Feedback As you can see, I have re done the profit/loss breakdown and have incorporated even more costs in order to solidify my profit/loss becoming more legitimate. I have accumulated how many magazine sales I am projecting to have over the year and how many copies we need. In the top image, it demonstrates simple advertisements of a full page, a full page advertisement page & half of a page in order to gain income from advertisement which you can clearly see I have accumulated as there are variety of advertisements in our music magazine.
  • 13. Survey Monkey Feedback The last question in this questionnaire which I formatted to the entirety of the audience which states “Do you have any other comments, questions or concerns?” The audience voiced their concerns and comments one of the comments was “Very well presented in a confident and persuasive manner, he didn’t read from a script and the eye contact with the audience was impressive” the comment was very pleasing and satisfying for me, but also the publisher voiced his concern in the following “Instagram page set up had a screen grab with ruler lines in the image, salaries were too low, source?, could you provide a clearer breakdown of costs/income, advertising £1.5m, how?, full page?, half page?
  • 14. Survey Monkey Feedback • The comments that the main publisher has voiced to me was very helpful as with his constructive criticism will hopefully help me make my pitch in future presentations more appealing towards other publishers. I especially think in order for my music magazine to become visibly appealing to potential investors, I would definitely need to improve my front cover and double page spread in order to achieve this goal and for publishers/investors to become much more enticing and appealing towards the publisher.
  • 15. Survey Monkey Feedback • One of the comments in which I received from one member of the audience was the following: "Salaries were too low especially when you stated you want to recruit high calibre candidates". As a result of this comment, I have changed the salary in order to meet the level of workers we are looking to hire for our Music Magazine. (The image below indicates the before and after changes that I have made)
  • 16. Survey Monkey Feedback • The main response from the first two questions of my survey monkey questionnaire was that the majority of the responses were positives with the exception of some negatives but instead of looking at the positives and just leaving it there I will be mainly looking the negatives and taking them on board before even acknowledging the positives. The opening question which I will be analysing from my questionnaire was “Was all of the content fully understood within my presentation?”, Out of 9 people, 8/9 answered Agree, with 1 particular audience member voting Disagree which hopefully we can find out what parts of the presentation he did not understand. The next question was as follows “Was there any content that could be added to the presentation?”, out of 9 people, 2/3 of the audience said yes and 1/3 said no. Again I am looking to find out what type of content needs to be added to enable me to generate more appeal towards a different publisher team.
  • 17. Survey Monkey Feedback • I recently underwent a pitch presentation to a publisher in which I attempted to present an idea to a publishing company, and this evaluation will be feedback which has been given to me via a publisher which include Prezi, survey monkey and a written report. I received feedback through survey monkey in which the audience who witnessed my presentation were able to voice their opinion on what went well, and what I needed to improve in order for my idea to become more appealing in future pitches and most importantly for when it comes to publishing. From the feedback it was strongly identified to me that the main strengths were the various plans, an example of this is the photography, production schedule and mood boards. Now the weaknesses have been also identified towards me in which the main priority were the calculations for the profit/loss, but also the front cover and double page spread need some development in terms of the common features which need to be included, for example puff promotion is what I am lacking on my front cover and on my double page spread there are a few gaps in the columns and the page number/web address needs to be formatted and this will be done.

Once all of the content has been correctly proofread, the whole magazine pages are all sent to print and therefore sent to the warehouse. The magazine is released to the viewing public who are free to buy our music magazine. Who: Me & Editor Who: Me, Publisher, & Editor Who: Publisher Equipment Needed: Phone, Laptop & Hardcopy of music magazine Equipment Needed: Hardcopy of music magazine Equipment Needed: None are needed. Cost of Equipment: £6000 disclosing staff pay & wages
  • 21. What changes did I make to my Production Schedule based on the feedback & why? There are two screenshots of completely different Production Schedule, the one above this text is a first draft Production Schedule & the one to the right of this text is a much adapted and much improved Production Schedule which is better in a variety of different ways. For example I have shown the cost of each day in which I have formatted into the Budget Costs section in which you can clearly see the cost and this is evident as this is not shown in the first draft version of the Production Schedule.
  • 22. What changes did I make to my Production Schedule based on the feedback & why? Due to the feedback that I had received, I felt that I needed to make vast changes to my Production Schedule in order to fit the standard requirements. So I have clearly listed the equipment that is needed within that section. This is very important as we need to know what equipment that we need on the specific day that we need it and this is imperative as we don’t want people to be confused and not know what they are doing. Furthermore this equipment required section does not show on the old draft of the Production Schedule.
  • 23. What changes did I make to my Production Schedule based on the feedback & why? As a result of the feedback in which I was given, I needed to change and adapt my old production schedule into a new one so it could look professional. In addition to this, we needed to format in not only the equipment required but the people that needed to be involved for that specific day so that those people that are involved know exactly what they are doing and they also know the exact program that they want to use. This is very important as we don’t want people to be confused with who they are working with and what programs and equipment they are using to carry out this activity.

  • 28. ASA & IPSO Legal & Ethical Issues Source: https://www.ipso.co.uk/IPSO/cop.html I must make sure that my music magazine avoid publishing information within our articles that are “inaccurate, misleading or distorted information which includes pictures”, what this means is that my music magazine cannot publish stories that are untrue and we must publish stories/articles that are 100% true. Furthermore if my music magazine have incorrectly stated something which is untrue about a pop star in the music industry, the IPSO will most likely send us a letter regarding us to change the error immediately which can remove the risk of hindering the reputation of my music magazine. In order for our music magazine to avoid any legal or ethical issues with the public, we must abide by these clauses for example our articles must be genuine and we must make sure that we make it very clear and understandable between a fact and a comment.
  • 29. ASA & IPSO Legal & Ethical Issues Source: https://www.ipso.co.uk/IPSO/cop.html “The Clause 1 Accuracy” makes a few statements in which our magazine alongside with other music magazines will need to follow and abide by in order to not become reprimanded by organisations such as the ASA & IPSO as they represent the Legal & Ethical Issues that are demonstrated below. In addition to this, our music magazine must make sure that if we do state news within our music magazine it must be all true and no content within the news that we provide will be false as that it also within this Clause . This is applicable to our music magazine in relation to the truth content within our music magazine as we MUST NOT make up answers just because we think that the answers that were given to us were not good enough. In conclusion we must follow and abide by these rules to sustain a good reputation in terms of the legal and ethical issues & to also not to be reprimanded.
  • 30. ASA & IPSO (Legal & Ethical Issues) • Source: https://www.ipso.co.uk/IPSO/aboutipso.html • A music magazine such as Kerrang, NME, Q, Clash and so on would need to review their advertising for their own products, or their own personal made magazine and they would review this by taking it up with the IPSO in which the IPSO would see if the advert is suitable to publish. An example of this would be if a product was advertised before going through the process, then the likely outcome would be that the company that have published this product would be fined, and also reprimanded for this legal obligations that they have broken. • My newly designed music magazine will need to know the constraints and boundaries of the IPSO which can influence the reputation for my music magazine, for instance if an advertisement of my music magazine is deemed as unsuitable for my chosen age range, a group of parents, senior members of public may report this sensitive report of this poorly managed advert.
  • 31. Ethical & Legal Issues that apply to our Music Magazine • Source: https://www.ipso.co.uk/IPSO/index.html • There are a variety of issues that apply to our music magazine whether they are ethical or legally. • Firstly we must make sure that all of the information and content within our magazine is NOT false nor in accurate, furthermore we must clearly outline what is a fact if we decide to put certain content within our music, an example of this could be that WE MUST provide tour date information which is true because if we don’t we are fooling the fans and it could also have financial implications on our music magazine in the long term. • Another example of a ethical/legal issue which applies to our music magazine would be if we were to go ahead and review a music single, or an album WE MUST then be fair and equal to the artist/band in hand and if we were to be negative towards their single/album we must justify our reasons and reach a settlement.
  • 32. IPSO Clause 3 Privacy • Source: https://www.ipso.co.uk/IPSO/cop.ht ml • This specific clause is a screengrab from the “IPSO Editors Code of Practice” in which all music magazines must follow this clause along with other clauses. Within this clause, we must ask permission to interview or to even go to the music star’s house before even getting the opportunity to speak to them. This is vitally important as we must not break this clause/editors code as we would most likely be reprimanded if we chose to do so.
  • 34. IPSO Clause 3 Privacy • Source: https://www.ipso.co.uk/IPSO/cop.ht ml • Another section within this clause (privacy) is that for our news column we are not allowed to secretly take pictures/images of the music stars without their permissions as it is against their rights as humans and without their consent we are NOT allowed to take photographs of them whether that it is at their private home or in a public place.
  • 35. IPSO Editors Code of Practice • Overall, all music magazine must follow all of the codes of practices which includes the clauses and this may be anything from the music star’s privacy to the accuracy of the content which is planning to be used within the music magazine in hand. Furthermore in order for music magazines to avoid trouble whether that is legal or ethical trouble they must not only follow but also abide by the rules and regulations as if we and other music magazine follow and abide by these rules and regulations correctly in order to maintain and sustain a good reputation and to also not get reprimanded by the ASA & IPSO.
  • 36. How to make complaint to IPSO & ASA• ASA: • Source: http://asa.org.uk/Consumers/How-to-complain.aspx • Firstly, the person complaining must be 100% sure that the complaint needs to be covered by the ASA. • Once this is sorted out, you can simply complain online, via phone or even write to the ASA all suitable options. • The ASA will then grant the name of the person who will deal with you complaint and what steps you are taking in order to grant this complaint. • The ASA have a very strong reputation of finding a solution to complaints, but these complaints do not have a specified time period of how long it should take, an example of this is that it could be a very short amount of time or even a very long amount of time. • A formal investigation should be made where the ASA will contact all parties which need to be contacted in order to try and find some evidence to further support the complaint. • ASA always publish their rulings and the solution to all of the complaints, furthermore they take every step in order to make sure that the decision is suitable towards all parties involved in this.
  • 37. IP (Intellectual Property) • Source: https://secure.copyrightservice.co.uk/register/reg_online • The intellectual property is vitally important and the IP will be on not only my front cover and double page spread but also on all of the social media pages that we have provided. This will enable the fans to go and view the page to like the image/post which is in reference to the Instagram post & in reference to twitter, they can follow the music stars which will be featuring within our music magazine. • With the IP being an element within the social media sites, it allows the fans to communicate with their idols on a more personal level & this also allows the music stars to communicate with the fans so it works both ways. Furthermore both Instagram & Twitter enables the music stars to keep increasing their fan base with the help of our magazine increasing their profile & by us promoting their social media sites, the music stars will accumulate more followers and therefore sustain a good rapport with us and their fans. • To register the IP on the social media sites that you want, you would need to go through the process of registering the Intellectual Property via on an online registration or you can register via postal. However the online form and the postal form is very similar in the sense that you need to fill out the details you want to get protected for the social media sites that we would want, for example Twitter & Facebook.
  • 38. Water Mark • Watermarking is an essential guide on how to catch third parties out illegally using our pictures without our permission in which is very important to make sure that we are a secure music magazine in terms of legal issues. This is very important as we don’t want to have a reputation of a company that can be easily infiltrated in terms of our images from our music magazines Front Cover & DPS.
  • 39. Registering Water Mark • Source: http://www.steves-digicams.com/knowledge-center/watermarking- and-copyrighting-your-photographs.html • You would need to Water Mark your work in order to not make them easily gained from the public, you need to obviously avoid this situation as if we were to take a picture for our music magazine and post it on Instagram. We would need to Water Mark it in order to control what happens to our image, now this is very important as if a certain organisation wants to use a specific image which is controlled and Water Marked by us they would need to pay a fee towards us in order for them to gain this image for us.
  • 40. • 41. Safe Working Practices • The standard safe working practices that any type of music magazine are that in relation to the Front Cover & Double Page Spread, we would need to be wary of the location of the images so that there are no serious hazards that could occur during the process of photography takes place for our Front Cover & Double Page Spread. For example, I would need to make sure that there is a clear space in reference to the location so that either we or the music star do not trip which could increase the chance of injury. • Any music magazine have all types of working practices whether that is productive, or technical. Photoshop would class themselves within the Technical Safe Working Practices as some of the tools are different from others and they function in different jobs. For example, the quick selection tool is a safe working practice along with other tools as the quick selection tool allocates you to be able to click on an object and to move it to where you want, furthermore the text tool is also a safe working practice as it allows you to easily read the input text without any hassle.
  • 42. Evidence of Safe Working Practices In relation to Safe Working Practices, we had to make sure that mistakes were down to a minimal so we needed to make sure that the camera was fitted onto a tripod so it was easy to not only manoeuvre the camera to whatever we want, for example to try different camera angles for our music magazine. This is a safety procedure as the tripod enables the camera to definitely not fall and therefore preventing the camera from hitting the floor.
  • 43. Data Protection Act • Source: https://www.gov.uk/data-protection/the-data-protection-act • This particular act controls how your own personal information is used by businesses and organisations in order to utilize the data to compare their data to other data they have within their organisation. All music magazines would need to make sure that the information is not only fair but also not false so that the content of our Front Cover & Double Page Spread is accurate to the point where our content is deemed as accurate. • Our Double Page Spread interviews must also be kept safe and we MUST make sure that no one gets their hands on an exclusive interview with a world music star as they may leak the information either online or they may decide to use our interview as there’s for the near future.
  • 44. Copyright • Prior to producing our music magazine, we as well as other conventional music magazines would need to make sure that we are fully aware of the copyright laws. As a result of this, we would also need to make sure we contact the companies that we are planning to use images for and make sure we get their permission for the use of their own images. • However an copyright law which we need to be aware of also is that we need to make sure we show evidence of the acceptance from the company of the logo that we are planning to use & our magazine will need to use this logo within the masthead, & on the Front Cover & Double Page Spread. Lastly, we will fill out a copyright form in order to finalise this.
  • 45. Print Media Case Study • Source: http://www.theguardian.com/law/2013/oct/14/european- court-human-rights-attacks-uk-newspapers • The European court of human rights is accusing some notable British newspapers in which one is Daily Mail of printing “seriously misleading” reports. An example of one of the reports suggested that Mustafa Abdi received “£7,237” where in reality this man was granted £1,280. Furthermore, the European human court of rights have published some examples within the source above on what the Daily Mail have over exaggerated this story regarding the amount of money the government have to pay to exile this man from our country.
  • 46. Music Industry Case Study In Association With CopyrightSource: http://99designs.com/designer- blog/2013/04/19/5-famous-copyright-infringement- cases/ Within the music industry, a particularly famous and controversial case was deemed as: Vanilla Ice VS David Bowie/ Freddie Mercury. This case originally started in 1991 when Vanilla Ice came out with the hit which was called “Ice Ice Baby” which is very notoriously known to be confused as of who actually wrote this famous song. When sampling the song Vanilla Ice did not choose to credit the artist who originally wrote this song and this was David Bowie. As time went on, Vanilla Ice later reviewed statement saying that it was an act of attempted humour, this therefore lead to a settlement in court in which Vanilla Ice paid an undisclosed amount of money and therefore crediting David Bowie & Queen for the song that he sampled and released.
  • 47. Calendar Events • Music Magazines or just Magazines in general will look to utilize any festival periods such as Easter or Christmas in order to help increase customer sales in that specific time period. My music magazine will be released on the 1st of December and we have chosen to do this so that people who are not even interested in music magazines can buy our magazine for people that they would like to give it to through the form of a present. This is a very conventional method for music magazines as they like to increase their readership figures in order for our music magazine to become more reputable in the near future. Therefore we will be capitalizing on this opportunity and therefore for our debut issue of our music magazine, we will be adding some Christmas designs and updates to our music magazine e.g. free content and the whole magazine will be a Christmas design.
  • 48. Witness Statement Comments • The witness statement comments are from the Head Publisher in which I presented to who is Mr Crafts. He kindly gave me these comments in order to improve my pitch and these comments were very helpful as I was able to improve my pitch in terms of the Front Cover & Double Page Spread layout & design alongside with improvements & tweaks about he costs which needed to be fitted into the job roles and responsibilities that were outlined. • Additionally, these comments also have guided me to improve the content of my pitch in order to better my pitch for potential investments pitches in the near future. These comments are significant to the progress of our idea for a music magazine and his key comments could be massive in terms of us actually getting a publisher.

  • 50. Conclusion • Within this unit I have covered a variety of topics in which I have learned a lot of information in which you need when producing a music magazine and this is anything from the copyright involved for examples logos & images to the actual production plan & schedule when creating a music magazine. I would definitely say that my pitch for my presentation was very good which therefore prepared me very well for what I as talking about, however some of the calculations of the budgets were unrealistic in relation to the job roles and responsibilities & therefore I had to make changes to correct these amendments.
