Types of Fire
Class A: Wood, paper, cloth, trash, plastics—
solids that are not metals.
Class B: Flammable liquids—gasoline, oil,
grease, acetone.
Class C: Flammable Gases— LPG, Propylene gas,
and other compressed gases.
Class D: Metals—potassium, sodium, aluminum,
magnesium.
Class E: Electrical—energized electrical
equipment. As long as it’s “plugged in.”
5. CLASS OF FIRE
CLASS DESCRIPTION EXTINGUISHING MEDIUM
A
FIRE involving ordinary combustible
materials e.g. Wood, Paper, Textile,etc.
Water, Sand, Water Side acid Type, etc.
B
FIRE in Flammable Liquids like Oil,
Solvents, Petroleum products,Varnishes,
Paints, etc.
Foam, Carbon dioxide, Dry Powder, etc.
C
FIRE involving gases substances under pr
.where it is necessary to dilute the burning
Gas at a very fast rate with an inert gas or
Powder.
Carbon dioxide, Dry Powder, Spe. Dry Powder,
etc.
D
FIRE involving metals like magnesium,
aluminum, zinc, potassium, etc.
Dry Powder, Spe. Dry Powder for metal Fire,
etc.
E
FIRE involving Electrical Equipment where
the electrical non-conductivity of the
extinguishing media is of first importance.
Carbon dioxide, Dry Chemical Powder. When
electrical equipment is de-energized, same as
for Classes A & B
