1. PERSONAL STATEMENT
I am a self motivated individual who can work very well as head of a team, within a team or on my own, I have shown my
leadership qualities in many roles over the past 20 years, starting when I was just 19 whilst serving with the Army (1 PWO)
in Northern Ireland, I was selected as brick 2IC (2nd
in command) and impressed my OC (officer in command) so much he
sent me on a leadership cadre so I could appear on the promotions board when we returned to England, leading men in an
hostile environment gave me a great understanding of how to motivate people, a trait I carried forward into civilian life when
given a chance to run a line as a charge hand for McCain Foods (PAS) Hull, my role was to run a line in the packing area
and lead a team of packing operatives, again, I impressed in this role and was offered the job of packing supervisor over
seeing a team of 20+ people and 3 lines, after a few years in that role I was offered the chance to move into a finance role
within McCain producing cost statements and profit/loss reports, I progressed in this role to become a valued part of the
senior leadership team at Hull.
In 2013 I decided to return to production and applied for a shift manager’s role at the McCain plant in Scarborough, the
recruitment team at Scarborough ran an assessment day which included, quick maths assessments, problem solving,
presentation skills, leadership skills and English. I was ranked 1st
of 100 applicants and was offered the role, whilst at
Scarborough I have lead teams on all 5 lines and spent 4 months in the food safety role, the Scarborough p lant produces over
30tons of packed chips per hour, so, the need for quick action and good decision making is essential in this role.
I am very ambitious and don’t want to stand still in my development, I have a “can do” attitude which rubs off on the teams I
lead/coach.
I work well under pressure and I am able to focus on the end goal and paint a picture for others, I am comfortable making
decisions and coaching others through difficult times, I am also equally as comfortable coaching up, and managing my
manager’s expectations.
