Personal Statement
As an experienced retail manager, I believe the fact I regularly achieved my Key Performance
Indicators was largely attributable to my thorough and proactive approach. In particular, I believe
my staff development skills and ability to create a strong team environment contributed to an
increase in sales in the stores I managed. Attention to detail is one of my key strengths, resulting in
my stores consistently delivering strong inventory results.
After working in the retail industry for 10 years, I decided to seek a new challenge. I relish the
opportunity to utilise the transferable skills I developed, including my close attention to detail,
ability to communicate effectively with staff and customers from diverse backgrounds and capacity
to adapt to different situations and effectively manage change.
Professional Experience
July 2012 – Present - Store Manager - Lidl GmbH & Co. KG
In my role as Store Manager, I demonstrated my appetite for taking on extra responsibilities by
becoming Premises Licence holder and Designated First Aider. My ability to communicate
effectively with and motivate staff was shown by the strong team environment and positive attitude
in store. Skills I developed include the ability to plan ahead, which was necessary when carrying out
sales projections and undertaking productivity planning. My ability to adapt to different situations
and manage change efficiently and effectively was demonstrated by the smooth introduction of the
in-store bakery, implementation of a staff training programme and several other initiatives.
March 2006 - July 2012 - Deputy Store Manager - Lidl GmbH & Co. KG
I started my Lidl career as a Trainee Store Manager and was promoted to Deputy Store Manager
during my training period, which demonstrated my enthusiasm and capacity to learn quickly in a
new environment. I was given responsibility for managing personnel, managing different aspects of
the store including the warehouse and “big boxes” and was involved in assisting the Store Manager
with future planning.
May 1999 - February 2006 - Team Leader - Tesco PLC
I started working for Tesco whilst in Sixth Year at High School and continued to work for the
company until after I graduated from University. My conscientious attitude was recognised when I
was promoted to the position of Team Leader in both the Grocery Replenishment and Bake Off
departments whilst still a student. My organisational skills resulted in a 33% increase in Bake Off
Sales whilst I was Team Leader.
