Initially commissioned to carry out an extensive self-devised Recruitment and
Training Survey across 85 companies from a wide range of manufacturing businesses
in North Lincolnshire to inform funding and resource bodies exactly what issues need
to be taken into account as they plan their regional Learning & Funding Strategies.
From this, a local Human Resource & Training Forum has been established with
myself as Chair and Co-ordinator, to develop effective networking and improvement
opportunities for companies and HR professionals. This networking was then
incorporated into a wider role from April 2002 as Project Manager of “The North
Lincolnshire Manufacturing Competitiveness Initiative”, an industry-led
private/public partnership working with businesses in the area to improve workforce
skills and competences through the “North Lincolnshire Workforce Skills Audit”,
devised in May 2002, responsible for £240,000 budget, funded by Yorkshire Forward.
3. From April 2003 responsibility was extended to undertake role as Project Manager for
a range of other LSC/Yorkshire Forward funded projects across the Humber Sub
Region.
From 2004 onwards added responsibility as The Manufacturing Sector Skills
Broker for Humberside on behalf of Business Link Humber, and Working with
North Lincolnshire Council to deliver the Hospitality & Tourism Sector Skills
Brokerage on their behalf.
In 2011 I was appointed Kingsway Business Manager with full responsibility for the
operation, performance and finance of employer responsive activity.
In addition I am currently Course Co-ordinator and Internal Verifier for a range of
ILM programmes, OCN short courses and UFA Management Level 4 programmes. I
also regularly teach on other certificated and non-certificated programmes for
business across a wide range of sectors and subject areas.

McKey Food Service Ltd -Group Human Resource &Training & Development
Manager (1994 - 2001)
McKey is the leading manufacturer of cryogenically frozen beefburgers in the UK,
and is part of a global food producer.
From an initial role as a Training & Safety Manager, the role developed across 8 UK
sites covering 800 people as their HR Manager. From 2000 the role was redefined to
focus on Training & Development across 5 sites following a company restructure and
take over, taking responsibility for the corporate and individual development of skills
and capabilities at all levels of the organisation, whilst also being an active member of
the wider Group Human Resources Team.
Main responsibilities included the devising, delivering and evaluating of a wide range
of learning/training programmes promoting personal development and leadership,
sourcing, negotiating and co-ordinating external training resources, administration of
the function and budget, and contributing to the company's overall Training Strategy
as part of its Business Objectives. Up to 2000, responsibility and main focus was to
develop a full, all inclusive Human Resource Strategy to be aligned to the company's
successful pursuit of The Sweeney Business Excellence Award (a customer's tailored
version of the US Malcolm Baldridge Model)

Took an opportunity to run a local high street pet food supply shop with my wife.

Following a decision to change career path and to retrain, this period was spent
learning varied aspects of Business administration, accounting, people development,
information and communication technology and managing resources, with a view to
developing an good all round business and commercial awareness to offer potential
organisations.
Swinton Group & General Accident Insurance (1979 - 1990)
Starting as a motor insurance clerk for a leading Insurance Company, General
Accident, underwriting and serving customers, the role in 1980 progressed into a
round the UK trouble shooter for GA branches as a member of their Mobile Support
Team. In 1984, the opportunity to broaden this motor insurance experience into a
more general personal insurance role was taken by joining a national high street
insurance broker (Swinton Group). From 1985, this general insurance experience was
used to gain promotion to a high street Branch Manager with total responsibility for
branch operating targets, local marketing, customer service and administration of
resources, finance and staff. The training and development of staff led to a realisation
5. that a more focused role in training and staff management would provide a better
career path to be demonstrating these emerging strengths and abilities.

With over 30 years experience in industry and education, I have developed a
