Situation An inspection of the base of street lamp
poles at Penrith Water Recycling Plant
(WRP) uncovered significant amounts of
corrosion below soil level.
Risks Left unactioned, further corrosion could result in the eventual collapse of affected
poles with the potential to injure people or damage assets.
Immediate
actions
• Inspect all metallic street light poles in contact with soil
• Barricade any areas where a fall is deemed possible
• Raise safety work orders to repair/replace damaged poles
Corrective
actions
• Ensure plant light pole materials and construction techniques are appropriate
for the soil type and other environmental conditions.
• Confirm PMs covering facilities infrastructure include inspection of light posts.
