Construction of Oil & GAS Refinery in Western Cape, South Africa
MOSSGAS
Value: £2 billion
Construction of an oil & gas refinery with associated pipework and infrastructure.
This was a major civils contract with an overall value of £2 billion. LTA, part of Anglo
American, were one of three management contractors and the main Civils
contractor.
My duties entailed programming, co-ordination of Site Engineers, Surveyors,
Foremen and Quantity Surveyors, cost control, quality control and material
acquisition, liaison with client representatives and Union bodies.
The works entailed a number of large reinforced concrete structures and a number
of significant structural steel buildings, tanks and support frames (portal frames etc.)
The offshore/onshore main gas pipeline and condensate pipeline with which I was
also substantially involved was 94 kilometres long and had a 240 Bar rating. This
pipeline also involved Cathodic protection system on the pipes. 85 kilometres of this
pipeline was laid underwater in the Indian Ocean.
Construction of Coal Mine Extension in Ellisras, North Province, South Africa
GROOTGELUK
Value: £40 million
Project involved the construction of reinforced concrete structures (settling tanks),
lift shafts and silo slides. The main computer building had a 38 meters high
reinforced concrete lift shaft. This contract also had extensive structural steel works.

Value: £7 million
Construction of reinforced concrete structures and installation of needle piles within
sheet piled temporary structures. The deepest structures were 7 metres below sea
level and included a number of portal frame buildings
MOYALLAN FOODS
Value £2 million
Construction of an EU approved Meat Processing Factory, Craigavon, N. Ireland
Portal frame building with brick & block skins and hoppered reinforced concrete
floors. These had specialist costings applied to them and all the internal walls were
food safe panels. The building was divided into raw processing and cooked product
production.

LLANDUDNO PUMPING MAINS & STATIONS
Value: £1.5 million
The construction of sewage pumping mains and four pumping stations throughout
the area. The ground conditions were particularly onerous and required specialist
dewatering and close sheeting of all excavations. We were working up to 7 meters
below sea level

Construction of a number of shops and apartments as a mixed use development in
Richhill, Northern Ireland.

EXPERIENCE
Marine Works
Reconstruction of 3 Quay walls in Richards Bay, harbour, Kwa Zulu Natal, South
Africa. This is the largest coal terminal in the world.
RICHARDS BAY
Value: £25 million
This project involved drilling through and grouting up 23 metres high quay walls into
the sea bed using bentonite slurry seals and placing 23,000 cubic metres of foam
concrete behind the quay wall as lightweight fill and the installation of 37,000 cubic
metres of compressed light weight burnt clay pellets in geotextile cages below sea
level as a base to the foam concrete.
The concrete was only 350kgs per m3
This project also required the demolition and replacement of the reinforced capping
beam along all 3 quay walls
RIVER BLACKWATER
Value £4.5 million
Under pinning of 7 bridges along the River Blackwater on the border between
Northern and Southern Ireland.
We utilised cofferdams around these works to prevent water ingress.
This was part of a larger major earthworks scheme on the border between Northern
and Southern Ireland over 2.5 million cubic metres of earth was excavated and
removed in this scheme.
The earthworks element of this scheme was £8.5 million
COMBER FLOOD PROTECTION SCHEME
Value: £2.5 million
Construction of 3.5 kilometres of sheet piled wall with reinforced capping beam for
flood protection in the town of Comber, Northern Ireland. The contract also
involved the construction of several reinforced concrete bridges and a temporary
bailey bridge.
ANNALONG HARBOUR
Value £1 million
This contract consisted of deeping the harbour, installation of a new harbour gate
(using under water concrete) and rock armour storm protection works

EXPERIENCE
Utilities (MERCURY – CABLE & WIRELESS)
Employed initially as Principal Engineer of Midlands, North East, North West, Wales,
Scotland and Northern Ireland in the Quantity Surveying and Civils Support
Department. Later promoted to National Manager of the department. The Division
had an annual budget of £ 50 million which we managed and administered.
Examples of major contracts on which I was extensively involved are as follows:-
LANIS Project XCL
Value: £19 million/240 kilometres
Incorporated land lines and marine cables between Lancashire, Isle of Man,
Northern Ireland and Scotland. This project was completed £1 million under
budget.
Duties: Measurement, quality control, co-ordination for sub-contractors, cost
control via Civils and materials orders/contracts and all project management
responsibilities.
Glasgow-Aberdeen Project XDW
Value: £6 million/266 kilometres
Duties: As per the LANIS project above but with greater project management
responsibilities. Through this duct laying operation and fibre optic scheme our
contractors broke two UK duct laying records and this project was completed £500k
under budget.
Newcastle-Edinburgh Project FEQ
Value: £4 million/174 kilometres with a 10 week time scale
Duties: As defined in the above mentioned projects
Crewkerne-Sennen Project DHD
Value: £6 million/257 kilometres with a 20 week time scale

EXPERIENCE
Managing Director
I founded Euro Construction Corporation Ltd which successfully operated in three
different fields. These were Consultancy, Construction & Design. The company
evolved from being an out and out building company to becoming a property
development company through it’s 14 years lifespan.
Prior to the financial crash in 2008 the Company was valued by Independent valuers
on behalf of the banks at £130 million with £38 million of borrowings.
Both of the Banks used by the Company had to receive significant bail out funding
by their respective Governments (GB – Royal Bank of Scotland & ROI – Allied Irish
Bank)
The Company has just achieved a 10 year planning permission for 734 residential
units and a shopping centre in North Drogheda (County Louth).
The Company was put into Administration and then Receivership at this time as
neither Bank had received their agreement for a bailout by either of their respective
Governments.
Both Banks continue to rely on Government bailout funding.
My role as Managing Director included responsibility for the following, within the
authority limited and delegated by the board:

Trouble Shooting
I was appointed Acting Head of Operations in a County Armagh based company due
to the termination of the Operations Directors employment due to what was initially
thought as non-performance.
Within 6 weeks of being engaged I had managed to bring in £1.2 million of
outstanding Client debts and had discovered a very large fraud and dissipation of
Company funds of several hundred thousand pounds. I am assisting the Company
and the Police in their ongoing litigation against the defendants.
Restructuring
I was appointed Consultant Senior Contracts Managers of MTC (Measured Term
Contracts) by a National Contractor based in Belfast to look at change management
of the 8 maintenance contracts (all Public Sector) with a view to restructuring the
business to make it more profitable and to ensure that all key elements could be
reported on in a real time.
This included the integration of a project management software across these
contracts.

I have put complete Health & Safety systems in place for 3 Builders over this time
