Group: Year 4 Subject: Science Didactic Unit: Spanish culture through Guernica in the context of World War II
Lesson: First, Time: 60´
Teaching objectives:
- Introduce British kids to Spanish culture through Art using a jigsaw activity.
Learning Objectives (WALT):
- Think and reflect how Art reflect a War.
- Predict which work of Art talks about the Spanish Civil War basing predictions on sharing information with peers, showing
interest and respect.

Reflection
-“Back to the board”: Displayed on the board it is written “Spanish Civil War”. One
child back to the board to guess the topic using the student´s explanations.
- Discuss Spanish role in the context of World War II and the Blitz. Discuss WALT.

Tune In -Each student is given a piece of paper with a short definition of the paint Guernica.
-Think-Pair-Share: Students walk around the class to find partners with the same
definition. Expert Groups make prediction about which one of the four shown is the
Guernica.

Guernica. Every one in
a different piece of
paper.
- Power Point Present.

Find out -Jigsaw activity: Students mingle to make a new group. Each member should have a
different piece of information about Guernica.
-Having in each group the five characteristics of Guernica, have a go to decide which
one is the paint we are talking about.

Reflection -Groups share their predictions, giving reasons.
-Make your own Guernica by colouring using the colours you like.
