rings ex-
tremely true
for the IPL as
the league has been a
talent fest over the past
15 years where young
cricketers get great op-
portunities against the fin-
est players from around the
world. The first fortnight of
the marquee tournament this
year too has seen some brilliant
performances from some terrific
youngsters who are in the lime-
light for all the right reasons.
RINKU SINGH
But none has shone brighter or
created a bigger buzz than Rinku
Singh.PlayingforKolkataKnight
Ridersasamiddleorderhitter,he
was sensational against Gujarat
Titans,hitting5sixesof 5deliver-
ies when his team needed 28 off
the last over of the match. Rinku
has been a prominent figure in
the Indian domestic circuit as
well. He has featured in 75 T20
matches and notched up 1294
runs at a strike rate of 137.95.
Rinku was brilliant in IPL
2022 season as well where he
played 7 matches and hammered
174 runs at a strike rate of 148.72.
His feat against Gujarat put Kol-
kata Knight Riders in the top
four on the points table with 3
wins out of 4 matches. In the
first game against Royal Chal-
lengers Bangalore too, Rinku hit
46 off 33 balls in a 68-run part-
nership with Shardul Thakur.
TILAK VARMA
The other youngster to shine in
this year’s IPL is Tilak Varma.
The 20-year-old Mumbai Indians
star hit an unbeaten 84 in their
first game against Royal Chal-
lengers Bangalore. Though his
effort ended up in a losing cause,
yet against Delhi Capitals he hit
a 29 ball 41 to help Mumbai lodge
their first win in this edition of
the IPL. A prolific scorer in the
Indian domestic circuit, Tilak
has amassed 1236 runs at an in-
credible average of 56.18.
Last season too, Tilak was
brilliant and aggregated 397
runs at a strike rate of 131.02; a
reason why the Mumbai fran-
chise retained him for the 2023
season and prompted Ravi Shas-
tri to remark that Tilak might
soon play for India!
RUTURAJ GAIKWAD
There’s one more batter who is
setting a strong case for himself
to be consistently selected in
the Indian Team. Ruturaj
Gaikwad has scored 2
half centuries and
a 40 not out in
the 4 games
that Chennai
has played so
far. His bat-
ting prowess
has meant that Su-
per Kings don’t have to
be bothered about a
strong start to their bat-
ting innings anymore.
AYUSH BADONI
From Delhi’s cricketing cir-
cles comes another incredible
talent - Ayush Badoni - who has
createdabuzzasan‘ImpactPlay-
er’. The 23-year-old may not have
scored big runs but they have
come at a tremendous strike rate
of 144.90, mostly in the crucial
death overs. His impact innings
has been a reason for Lucknow
finding itself in the top 3 of the
points table with 3 wins.
This year’s IPL has been re-
warding for many leg spinners
in the game and clearly points
out the need for their craft, espe-
cially in the shortest format of
the game. Rashid Khan and Yuz-
vendra Chahal are the top wick-
et takers with 9 and 10 wickets
respectively. But opportunities
have also been given to former
Indian leggies like Piyush
Chawla and Amit Mishra as well
and they too have grabbed them
with both hands. Chawla
chipped in with 3 wickets for
Mumbai against Delhi in their
first win. Mishra has also picked
up 3 wickets in the two matches
that he has played so far for Luc-
know SuperGiants, proving that
the T20 game has room for any-
one who is willing to improve.
SUYASH SHARMA
But a miracle story is of Suyash
Sharma, the young leggie from
Delhi, who till last year was an
unknown diamond lying in the
dark until his glitter was discov-
ered by talent scouts of the
Knight Riders. The result is that
hepickedup3wicketsfor30runs
against Royal Challengers in his
veryfirstgamethisyearinacon-
fident display of his leg spinning
abilities. This is the most impact
leg spinners have had in the last
3yearsof IPLastheyhavepicked
up 33 wickets in just 10 games!
As the IPL season progresses
and contests become fiercer in
the next few weeks with teams
evolving newer strategies and
combinations, the T20 matches
will test the acumen of old and
young alike. It is then that the
talent and mental resolve of the
young guns will be put through
fire. Meanwhile, the fans of the
respective franchises will cer-
tainly hope that their teams in-
crease the intensity of their
game just like the soaring tem-

BJP returns to power in
2024 by winning more
than 35 seats in the
state, “no one would
dare to attack Ram Na-

Violence broke out in

“Mamata Banerjee

Maputo (PTI): India is
ready to take its “time-
tested”relationshipwith
Mozambique to a new
level, External Affairs
Minister S Jaishankar
said, underscoring that
New Delhi’s policies will
be guided by the priori-
ties and interests of its
partners in their quest
for development.
Addressing the Indi-
an community here,
Jaishanakar, said the
bilateral relationship in
the past seven years has
changed profoundly
.
“This is a very time-
tested relationship. It is
ahistoricrelationship.It
is a relationship that
goes back to the time
when Mozambique was
fighting for its freedom.
For many decades, our
leaders, our people, and
oursocietieshaveshared
a lot, we have bonded
very deeply
,” he said.
And even today as the
twonationspursuetheir
developmental paths
there is a lot that the two
can do for each other, he
said adding that strong
sense of solidarity be-
tween the two nations is
thedefiningcharacteris-
tic of bilateral ties.
Jaishankar said de-
veloping nations have
the responsibility to
make sure other coun-
tries can take benefit
from their experiences.
He said there are ex-
amples of this today in
the field of security
.
“If Mozambique fac-
es challenges from ter-
rorists, as a country,
which has itself been
sold deeply impacted, it
is our moral obligation
today to help another
country which is going
through this,” Jais-
hankar stressed.
Recalling a speech by
PM Modi during his trip
to Uganda in 2018, Jais-
hanakar said in his ad-
dress, the Prime Minis-
ter said that “we will be
guided by what are the
priorities and the inter-
ests of our partners and
that we will ask you..
you please tell us what
is important for you.”
“And if we can do it,
if we have something
there which is of value,
we will be very hon-
oured to do it. So what
has defined India’s
growing relationship
with Africa, which is
very very visible in Mo-
zambique, because Mo-
zambique is among the
most important and
substantive relation-
ships in Africa, is what-
ever we are doing,” the
EAM stressed.

“Role of Civil Societies

in which direction the

for the formation of
new districts and divi-

incidences of rapes and
said, “A question was

village in Udaipur, bru-
tally killing her by
chopping her body into
10 pieces, has shook me
to the core. I was tear-
eyed after meeting the
family members of the
girl on Thursday
.
She further tweeted
saying, “Our govern-
ment had made a law of
death penalty for those
who rape 12-year-old
girls. At the same time,
during our government,
many culprits were sen-
tenced to death within a
month of the incident.
But now, such step isn’t
being undertaken due
to the lack of will power
on the part of the Con-

Kamal Nath also cited
Pilot’s campaign in MP,

that Kamal Nath may
play the role of a media-

also been learnt that So-

instructed him to advise
state leaders not to make

These days Gehlot is

In fact, when ques-

new ‘step’ of Gehlot has
a blunt message, that
Gehlot does not want to

  • 4. uccess is when prepa- ration meets opportunity.” Thisoldquote rings ex- tremely true for the IPL as the league has been a talent fest over the past 15 years where young cricketers get great op- portunities against the fin- est players from around the world. The first fortnight of the marquee tournament this year too has seen some brilliant performances from some terrific youngsters who are in the lime- light for all the right reasons. RINKU SINGH But none has shone brighter or created a bigger buzz than Rinku Singh.PlayingforKolkataKnight Ridersasamiddleorderhitter,he was sensational against Gujarat Titans,hitting5sixesof 5deliver- ies when his team needed 28 off the last over of the match. Rinku has been a prominent figure in the Indian domestic circuit as well. He has featured in 75 T20 matches and notched up 1294 runs at a strike rate of 137.95. Rinku was brilliant in IPL 2022 season as well where he played 7 matches and hammered 174 runs at a strike rate of 148.72. His feat against Gujarat put Kol- kata Knight Riders in the top four on the points table with 3 wins out of 4 matches. In the first game against Royal Chal- lengers Bangalore too, Rinku hit 46 off 33 balls in a 68-run part- nership with Shardul Thakur. TILAK VARMA The other youngster to shine in this year’s IPL is Tilak Varma. The 20-year-old Mumbai Indians star hit an unbeaten 84 in their first game against Royal Chal- lengers Bangalore. Though his effort ended up in a losing cause, yet against Delhi Capitals he hit a 29 ball 41 to help Mumbai lodge their first win in this edition of the IPL. A prolific scorer in the Indian domestic circuit, Tilak has amassed 1236 runs at an in- credible average of 56.18. Last season too, Tilak was brilliant and aggregated 397 runs at a strike rate of 131.02; a reason why the Mumbai fran- chise retained him for the 2023 season and prompted Ravi Shas- tri to remark that Tilak might soon play for India! RUTURAJ GAIKWAD There’s one more batter who is setting a strong case for himself to be consistently selected in the Indian Team. Ruturaj Gaikwad has scored 2 half centuries and a 40 not out in the 4 games that Chennai has played so far. His bat- ting prowess has meant that Su- per Kings don’t have to be bothered about a strong start to their bat- ting innings anymore. AYUSH BADONI From Delhi’s cricketing cir- cles comes another incredible talent - Ayush Badoni - who has createdabuzzasan‘ImpactPlay- er’. The 23-year-old may not have scored big runs but they have come at a tremendous strike rate of 144.90, mostly in the crucial death overs. His impact innings has been a reason for Lucknow finding itself in the top 3 of the points table with 3 wins. This year’s IPL has been re- warding for many leg spinners in the game and clearly points out the need for their craft, espe- cially in the shortest format of the game. Rashid Khan and Yuz- vendra Chahal are the top wick- et takers with 9 and 10 wickets respectively. But opportunities have also been given to former Indian leggies like Piyush Chawla and Amit Mishra as well and they too have grabbed them with both hands. Chawla chipped in with 3 wickets for Mumbai against Delhi in their first win. Mishra has also picked up 3 wickets in the two matches that he has played so far for Luc- know SuperGiants, proving that the T20 game has room for any- one who is willing to improve. SUYASH SHARMA But a miracle story is of Suyash Sharma, the young leggie from Delhi, who till last year was an unknown diamond lying in the dark until his glitter was discov- ered by talent scouts of the Knight Riders. The result is that hepickedup3wicketsfor30runs against Royal Challengers in his veryfirstgamethisyearinacon- fident display of his leg spinning abilities. This is the most impact leg spinners have had in the last 3yearsof IPLastheyhavepicked up 33 wickets in just 10 games! The Mamata Baner- jee government is scheduled to complete its third term in 2026. “Mamata Banerjee might dream of making her nephew the next CM, but the next Chief Minister of West Ben- gal will be from the BJP. Only the BJP can fight and defeat the corrupt TMC,” he said. Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek is TMC’s na- tional general secretary and an MP. The BJP won 18 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal in the 2019 elections. Shah’s comments drew sharp reactions from the TMC, which termed it as “undemo- cratic and unconstitu- tional”. In its latest all-India tiger estimation report, released recently by PM Narendra Modi, the Na- tional Tiger Conserva- tion Authority (NTCA) highlighted the “silent and surmounting” threats of climate change-related impacts on habitats and the loss of the quality of forests over time. It said climate change threatens survival of ti- gers in Sunderbans and is one of the major chal- lenges facing the wild- life in Western Ghats. While the big cat pop- ulation in the Sunder- bans is steady, it has come down substantial- ly in the Western Ghats where 824 tigers were recorded in 2022 as against 981 in 2018. Mohammad Sajid Sultan, the NTCA’s as- sistant inspector gen- eral of forests, said the wildlife is being affect- ed by climate change with new pests and dis- eases emerging. “Rain patterns are also changing subtly and gradually rather than all at once. Reports have emerged of tigers moving to higher alti- tudes and overlapping territories with snow leopards, which has never happened before. “This suggests that changes are occurring intheecosystem,includ- ing shifts in monsoon rain patterns,” he said. “Humans and wildlife pitted against each other” CONSERVATIONISTS ON CLIMATE CHANGE lll A warming world is increasing human-wildlife conflict by altering animal habitats as well as the timing of events, wildlife behaviours —Representational image Maputo (PTI): India is ready to take its “time- tested”relationshipwith Mozambique to a new level, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said, underscoring that New Delhi’s policies will be guided by the priori- ties and interests of its partners in their quest for development. Today there is an atmosphere of tension on caste and religion in the country. Rahul Gandhi toured India in BJY with an aim to bring all the peo- ple together. I imple- mented the OPS plan. Now, GoI has formed a committee for this. Now the Centre is working on it. But when we sug- gested, then the com- mittee wasn’t formed. All our plans are good. Be it Right to Health or other schemes. From April 24, camps will be organised in the state to give relief from infla- tion in which the gen- eral public will get re- lief,” he said.
