n anti-BJP sen-
timent is grow-
ing in Telanga-
na with Chief
Minister K.
Chandrashek
ar Rao (KCR)
leading the charge. His
meetings with Chief Min-
ister Uddhav Thackeray of
Shiv Sena and Nationalist
Congress Party’s Sharad
Pawar are being seen as an
attempt to stitch up a non-
Congress front against the
BJP before the 2024 elec-
tions. The meeting took
place at Thackeray initia-
tive. This unity effort ap-
pears to be a move inde-
pendent of Mamata Baner-
jee and Prashant Kishor’s
plans for a unified front.
While reaching out to re-
gional parties, both intend
to keep the Congress out of
their scheme of things.
Could KCR and Mamata
find a common meeting
ground for a unified oppo-
sition front? And a bigger
question that looms is
whether these regional
leaders, including KCR,
will be able to rein-in their
balloon-sized
ambitions in
the national interest?
There have to be a host
of reasons for the Telan-
gana Rashtra Samithi
(TRS) leader, who once
sided with the BJP in Par-
liament, to turn against
the BJP and Prime Minis-
ter Narendra Modi.
One of the reasons clear-
ly is the political threat to
the TRS. The saffron party
is making inroads in Tel-
angana and giving KCR
pinpricks with remarks on
bifurcation of the state
that please YSR Congress
chief YS Jagan Mohan
Reddy, the chief minister
of Andhra Pradesh.
On Chief Minister
KCR’s birthday, the Union
Ministry of Road Trans-
port issued full-page ad-
vertisements
announcing

blamed the BJP for not re-
leasing funds for the
state’s development.
KCR
must remember that there
is no double-engin

ernment there.
TELANGANA’S MOVE
AGAINST THE BJP
There have to be a host
of reasons for the
Telangana Rashtra
Samithi (TRS) leader, who
once sided with the BJP
in Parliament, to turn
against the BJP and
Prime Minister

A
or those who thought that Nar-
endra Modi doesn’t care for
Muslims should revisit the dead-
ly floods of Morbi in 1979 when
thousands of people lost their
lives to this disaster. There was
a great risk of epidemic due to
rotten bodies. Most of the people
living in that area were Mus-
lims. Soon after knowing the
pathetic condition of the resi-
dents, Modi swing into action
and took them to relief camp in
Rajkot. He took personal care of
Muslims and arranged for their
sehri during the pious Ramzan
month. Modi stayed in the relief
camp for 2-3 months and left
only after settling them.
Meanwhile in New Delhi,
Chaudhary Charan Singh took
over from Morarji Desai as
Prime Minister. But he could not
the govern for even 6 months
and the experiment of Janta
front failed. Fresh elections
were held in 1980, bringing In-
dira Gandhi back to power.
However, a major political
event happened on 6th April 1980
when leaders of Jansangh found-
ed a political party - Bhartiya Ja-
nataParty-whichhasbecomethe
largest political party and is pres-
ently ruling the country
. The first
session of BJP was held in Mum-
bai where the former Prime Min-
ister and where one of the BJP’s
founding members Atal Bihari
Vajpayeehadfamouslysaid-And-
hera Chhatega, Kamal Khilega.
In 1981, the country was shak-
en up by mass conversion of Dal-
its to Muslims at Meenaxipuram
in Tamil Nadu. Sangh parivar
immediately took cognisance of
that and started Ekatm Yatra
across the country
. This embold-
ened Hindus and during these
yatra, representativ
es of Sangh
parivar connected more than 6
crore Hindus. Narendra Modi
led this campaign in Gujarat giv-
ing new dimensions to his lead-
ership skills.
Kaushik Mehta of VHP be-
lieves that the concept of this
yatra was of Narendra Modi
only
. “Every citizen of the coun-
try is one. Two raths were taken
out in the country simultane-
ously putting kumbh of Gangaji
and photo of Mother India to-
gether. This spread a meaning-
ful message to Hindus,” he said.
Meanwhile,PrimeMinisterIn-
dira Gandhi was assassinated on
31st October, 1984 and Congress
rompedhomewithgreatmajority
ridingonthesympathyvotes.The
newly formed BJP ended up win-
ning just two seats. In the next
year, assembly elections were
heldinGujaratandCongresswon
149 out of 182 seats while BJP
could manage to win just 11 seats.
This set the alarm bells on and
Sangh started sending pracha-
raks to strengthen the BJP
.
On6thDecember1986,pracha-
rak Narendra Modi was sent to
BJP by the then Sarsanghchal
ak
Bala Saheb Devras. Modi, who
was working selflessly for the
Sangh for last one and half dec-
ades, found a new path to trudge.
Soon after coming into BJP, in
1989 Modi had a tough challenge
ahead which he turned into an
opportunity. There was an elec-
tion of Ahmedabad Nagar Nig-
am. Modi took over the entire
responsibility
of poll strategy
and publicity
. He gave the slogan
– ‘Bas ab Bhajapa’. That slogan
played an important role in re-
vival of BJP and changed the
face of electoral politics. People
related with the slogan and the
political acceptability
increased
simultaneous
ly
.
After the great win at
Ahmedabad
Nagar Nigam,
Modi’s role in the party gained
prominence and he was entrust-
ed with the responsibility
of Or-
ganising Secretary in Gujarat.
Modi took out yatras to connect
with the people of the state.
While he carried out ‘Nyay yatra’
championing
the cause of farm-
ers in 1987, he also took out Lok
Shakti yatra in support of tribals
in 1988. In the same year, Modi
went on one more yatra - Kailash
Mansarovar
yatra, which was
organised by External Affairs
ministry for the first time. Soon
after he returned from the yatra,
he came to know about his fa-
ther’s ill health. He immediately
went to Vadnagar, only to see his
father taking his last breath.
Modi’s father probably was wait-
ing for the last sight of his son.
However, undeterred by his
father’s demise, Narendra
Modi left his home the next day
for a journey meant for nation
building.

Shyam Nagar, Shipra
Path, Mansarovar, Jalu-

raided drunk people
were found dancing and
with the bar girls.
Police arrested
around 40 youths and 12
bar girls alongside huge
quantities of narcotics
were also seized from
various bars.
Prior to the action,
the crime branch per-

last several nights to
identify the list of il-

ning in the city. On
Saturday night, the
police teams carried
out the operation se-
cretly. At present, the
bar operators are be-
ing questioned.

Meena on Sunday al-

would prove to be a big-

, he
is running a coaching

that the syllabus of the

Raj Bhawan Lodha at
loggerheads over Thanvi
First India Bureau
Jaipur: It seems that
the Raj Bhawan and the
‘Raj’ have found them-
selves on the opposite
ends of the spectrum.
How so? Well, the Raj
Bhawan has taken or-
ders twice regarding
the Haridev Joshi Uni-
versity of Journalism
and Mass Communica-
tion, but MLA Sanyam
Lodha, who is support-
ing the government,
has been countering the
same. On February 1,
Raj Bhawan banned the
recruitment process of
the university and then
banned the appoint-
ment of the Vice Chan-
cellor in the last 2
months of the tenure.
However, this perhaps
did not go down well
with MLA Sanyam Lod-
ha who opened a front
against Raj Bhawan
terming the orders to be
wrong and and tweeted
fiercely in favor of Om
Thanvi.
On Friday, Raj
Bhavan had banned 2
meetings of the univer-
sity and along with this,
Vice Chancellor Om
Thanvi was banned
from taking policy deci-
sions.
Thereafter, Sanyam
Lodha came to the res-
cue of the Vice Chancel-
lor and said that Than-
vi’s meetings were as
per the rules. Interest-
ingly, there seems to be
a wave of sympathy in
favor of Thanvi in the
ongoing situation.

Jaipur: There has been
a sudden interest
among the political
class towards Rajastha-
ni language as one after
the other, many leaders
have recently written
letters to the central
and state govt and
raised demand for giv-
ing the status of official
language to Rajasthani
language.
Recently, Disaster
Management Minister
Govind Meghwal wrote
a letter to the CM Ge-

the Rajasthani lan-

tongue of the people of
Rajasthan. “It is our re-

said and cited the status
of official language to
local languages in other
states. He further said,
“The proposal has al-
ready been sent to the
center by the state
govt.” The minister has
requested to take action
to get constitutional
recognition for Ra-
jasthani.
Meanwhile, Advisor
to CM Dr. Rajkumar
Sharma has also raised
similar demand from
CM reminding that on
August 25, 2003, the pro-
posal to make it an offi-
cial language was
passed in state assem-

CM Gehlot. After pass-
ing the proposal was
sent to the central govt.
He stressed that the Ra-

should be included in

Congress Party’s Sharad
Pawar are being seen as an
attempt to stitch up a non-
Congress front against the
BJP before the 2024 elec-
tions. The meeting took
place at Thackeray initia-
tive. This unity effort ap-
pears to be a move inde-
pendent of Mamata Baner-
jee and Prashant Kishor’s
plans for a unified front.
While reaching out to re-
gional parties, both intend
to keep the Congress out of
their scheme of things.
Could KCR and Mamata
find a common meeting
ground for a unified oppo-
sition front? And a bigger
question that looms is
whether these regional
leaders, including KCR,
will be able to rein-in their
balloon-sized ambitions in

There have to be a host
of reasons for the Telan-
gana Rashtra Samithi

sided with the BJP in Par-
liament, to turn against
the BJP and Prime Minis-

One of the reasons clear-
ly is the political threat to

AGAINST THE BJP

A
or those who thought that Nar-
endra Modi doesn’t care for
Muslims should revisit the dead-
ly floods of Morbi in 1979 when
thousands of people lost their
lives to this disaster. There was
a great risk of epidemic due to
rotten bodies. Most of the people
living in that area were Mus-
lims. Soon after knowing the
pathetic condition of the resi-
dents, Modi swing into action
and took them to relief camp in
Rajkot. He took personal care of
Muslims and arranged for their
sehri during the pious Ramzan
month. Modi stayed in the relief
camp for 2-3 months and left
only after settling them.
Meanwhile in New Delhi,
Chaudhary Charan Singh took
over from Morarji Desai as
Prime Minister. But he could not
the govern for even 6 months
and the experiment of Janta
front failed. Fresh elections
were held in 1980, bringing In-
dira Gandhi back to power.
However, a major political
event happened on 6th April 1980
when leaders of Jansangh found-
ed a political party - Bhartiya Ja-
nataParty-whichhasbecomethe
largest political party and is pres-
ently ruling the country
. The first
session of BJP was held in Mum-
bai where the former Prime Min-
ister and where one of the BJP’s
founding members Atal Bihari
Vajpayeehadfamouslysaid-And-
hera Chhatega, Kamal Khilega.
In 1981, the country was shak-
en up by mass conversion of Dal-
its to Muslims at Meenaxipuram
in Tamil Nadu. Sangh parivar
immediately took cognisance of
that and started Ekatm Yatra
across the country
. This embold-
ened Hindus and during these
yatra, representatives of Sangh
parivar connected more than 6
crore Hindus. Narendra Modi
led this campaign in Gujarat giv-
ing new dimensions to his lead-
ership skills.
Kaushik Mehta of VHP be-
lieves that the concept of this
yatra was of Narendra Modi
only
. “Every citizen of the coun-
try is one. Two raths were taken
out in the country simultane-
ously putting kumbh of Gangaji
and photo of Mother India to-
gether. This spread a meaning-
ful message to Hindus,” he said.
Meanwhile,PrimeMinisterIn-
dira Gandhi was assassinated on
31st October, 1984 and Congress
rompedhomewithgreatmajority
ridingonthesympathyvotes.The
newly formed BJP ended up win-
ning just two seats. In the next
year, assembly elections were
heldinGujaratandCongresswon
149 out of 182 seats while BJP
could manage to win just 11 seats.
This set the alarm bells on and
Sangh started sending pracha-
raks to strengthen the BJP
.
On6thDecember1986,pracha-
rak Narendra Modi was sent to
BJP by the then Sarsanghchalak
Bala Saheb Devras. Modi, who
was working selflessly for the
Sangh for last one and half dec-
ades, found a new path to trudge.
Soon after coming into BJP, in
1989 Modi had a tough challenge
ahead which he turned into an
opportunity. There was an elec-
tion of Ahmedabad Nagar Nig-
am. Modi took over the entire
responsibility of poll strategy
and publicity
. He gave the slogan
– ‘Bas ab Bhajapa’. That slogan
played an important role in re-
vival of BJP and changed the
face of electoral politics. People
related with the slogan and the
political acceptability increased
simultaneously
.
After the great win at
Ahmedabad Nagar Nigam,
Modi’s role in the party gained
prominence and he was entrust-
ed with the responsibility of Or-
ganising Secretary in Gujarat.
Modi took out yatras to connect
with the people of the state.
While he carried out ‘Nyay yatra’
championing the cause of farm-
ers in 1987, he also took out Lok
Shakti yatra in support of tribals
in 1988. In the same year, Modi
went on one more yatra - Kailash
Mansarovar yatra, which was
organised by External Affairs
ministry for the first time. Soon
after he returned from the yatra,
he came to know about his fa-
ther’s ill health. He immediately
went to Vadnagar, only to see his
father taking his last breath.
Modi’s father probably was wait-
ing for the last sight of his son.
However, undeterred by his
father’s demise, Narendra
Modi left his home the next day
for a journey meant for nation
building.

Hardoi: Prime Minis-
ter Narendra Modi tar-
geted rivals Samajwadi
Party and the Congress
in Uttar Pradesh on
Sunday, adding to alle-
gations that the parties
are soft on terror. Point-
ing to the 2008
Ahmedabad serial
blasts, which claimed 56
lives and left over 200
people injured, he said
some parties are sym-
pathetic to terrorists.
Speaking at a rally in
Hardoi, he accused the
erstwhile Uttar Pradesh
government of seeking
to withdraw cases
against terrorists.
“The attitude of the
leaders of the Samajwa-
di Party and the Con-
gress has been even
more alarming. These
people address a terror-
ist like Osama as ‘ji’.
These people shed tears
over the elimination of
terroristsinBatlaHouse
encounter,” he said.
“Similarly
, in 14 cases
of terrorist attacks in
Uttar Pradesh, the Sa-
majwadi government
had given orders to
withdraw the cases
from many terrorists.
These people were set-
ting off blast after blast,
and the Samajwadi Par-
ty government was not
even allowing these ter-
rorists to be prosecut-
ed,” he added.
The BJP has tradi-
tionally accused the
Congress of appease-
ment politics because
of its sizeable Muslim
support base. Once this
support shifted to the
Samajwadi Party, the
barbs got sharper.
Campaign in the run-
up to this election was
sharply polarised, with
senior state leaders and
the Chief Minister ac-
cusing Akhilesh Ya-
dav’s party of being
supporters of Pakistan
and its founder Muham-
mad Ali Jinnah. Mr

triarch Mulayam Singh

New Delhi: The out-
come of the five state
elections will have an
impact on the Presiden-
tial poll and will also
bring some change in
the Upper House of
Parliament as except
for Punjab the other
four states were ruled
by the BJP with brute
majorities in UP and
Uttarakhand.
The Bharatiya Janata
Party may not be that
comfortably placed in
the Presidential elec-
tion which is likely to be
conducted in June-July
2022, as the President is
indirectly elected by an
electoral college con-
sisting of the elected
members of both the
Houses of Parliament
and the assemblies.
The electoral colleges
comprises 776 MPs of
both the Houses and
4,120 MLAs of all the
states and Union Terri-
tories. The electoral col-
lege has 1,098,903 votes,
and a majority is 549,452
votes. As far as the value
of votes is concerned,
Uttar Pradesh has the
highestnumberof votes,
approximately83,824fol-
lowed by Maharashtra
and West Bengal.
The BJP has a brute
majority in the assem-
blies of UP and Uttara-
khand and any reduc-
tion of seats will put the
game in the opposition
camp as the Chief Min-
isters of different re-
gional parties are try-
ing to join hands.
If they join hands
and put up a joint candi-
date, the BJP will find
it difficult to get
its nominee
e l e c t e d .
The only
way would
be a divi-
sion in the opposition
camp which may be a
difficult task. After
West Bengal Chief Min-
ister Mamata Banerjee
who is trying to expand
her party, Trinamool
Congress’ footprints at
the national level, Tel-
angana Chief Minister
K. Chandrashekhar
Rao (KCR) had a
meeting with Maha-
rashtra Chief Minister
Uddhav Thackeray
.
Not only is the Mum-
bai meeting important
but KCR is also meeting
Tamil Nadu Chief Min-
ister M.K. Stalin and
Kerala Chief Minister
Pinarayi Vijayan.
Even Mamata Ba-
nerjee is likely to
travel to Hyderabad to
meet KCR. He has the
support of former
Prime Minister H.D.
Deve Gowda who could
be another possible can-
didate for President.
However the Chief
Ministerstryingtounite
en bloc is not a good sign
for the Congress which
may get isolated in the
opposition while the
BJP has to search for a
consensus candi-
date for the
Presiden-
tial poll.
K C R ’ s
new initia-
tive is to save his home
turf as the BJP is ex-
panding its base in Tel-
angana. He is being
forced to take on the
BJP due to domestic po-
litical compulsions, oth-
erwise the party had
been bailing out the BJP
on key legislation in the
Upper House since 2014.
The southern states
and Maharashtra ac-
count for more than 200
Lok Sabha seats and al-
most half of the elector-
alcollegewhichcouldbe
crucial in the next Presi-
dential poll. If the re-
gionalpartiesteamup,it
will be unlikely that the
BJP will have its way in
the choice of President.
Thus the electoral
outcome in the five
states which include UP
will impact the presi-
dential election.
If the opposition puts
up a candidate like NCP
supremo Sharad Pawar
who is capable of mus-
tering support from oth-
ers like the Trinamool
Congress, the BJD, the
TRS,theYSRCP
,theCPI-
M, the CPI and the other
parties, then the BJP
will have a tough task
ahead of it. —Agencies

Munich: India's rela-

rightnowgoingthrough
a very difficult phase
after Beijing violated
agreements not to bring
the military forces in
the border, External Af-
fairs Minister S Jais-
hankar has said, em-
phasising that the state
of the border will deter-
mine the state of the
relationship.
Speaking at a panel
discussion on Saturday
at the Munich Security
Conference (MSC) 2022
in Munich, Mr Jais-
hankar said that India
was having a problem
with China along the
Line of Actual Control.
For 45 years, there
was peace, there was
stable border manage-
ment, there were no
military casualties on
the border from 1975.
That changed because
we had agreements
with China not to
bring military forces
to the border and the
Chinese violated those
agreements, the Min-
ister said.
Now, the state of the
border will determine
the state of the relation-
ship. That's natural. So
obviously, the relations
with China right now
are going through a dif-
ficult phase, he added.
The eastern Ladakh
border standoff be-
tween the Indian and
Chinese militaries
erupted following a vio-
lent clash in the Pan-
gong lake areas and
both sides gradually
enhanced their deploy-
ment by rushing in tens

BROTHER-IN-LAW ‘RAPES’ MINOR
MLA DUDI DEMANDS JUSTICE FOR VICTIM
A CONGRESS
‘SESSION’ THAT
WAS KEPT
‘UNDER WRAPS’!
Did the Congress hold a
session at Birla Auditorim
recently? Yes, the party
organized session for its leaders
and workers, who assembled in
thousands to attend the same.
Did the Congress hold a ‘parallel
session’ near Birla Auditorium
on the same day, one that pretty
much was ‘invisible’ to a ‘few’.
The answer may shock you, but
truth be told, the party leaders
did hold ‘session’ at Maharaj
restaurant near the auditorium
where along with piping hot cups
of tea, developments of
auditorium were ‘common
tongue’. Some stalwarts spent
their entire time in this ‘invisible
session’. Interestingly, newly
appointed Chairman sahab
preferred this session over the
Birla one. —Yogesh Sharma
THE JAI-VEERU
OF CONGRESS!
In the third Gehlot government,
two ‘special’ trouble shooters
of the government are being
discussed in almost every
‘power’ setting! The duo are
strongly handling the front
against the opposition, both
inside and outside the house.
While many senior BJP leaders
are attacking the government in
the house, but two ministers of
the government have
successfully doused the BJP’s
fire. Ministers Shanti Dhariwal
and Dr. Mahesh Joshi are
steadfast on their ‘positions’
and countering the opposition
eloquently and skillfully. In fact,
Dhariwal inside the house and
Mahesh Joshi standing outside,
are like a double pronged
shield of the Gehlot
government and this feat has
been achieved owing to the full
confidence of CM Gehlot in the
skills and abilities of both the
ministers! —First India Bureau

Suryaveer Singh Tanwar
Jaisalmer: A man from
Ramdevra police sta-
tion area, sodomised
his 12-year-old cousin
recently and it was after
the minor informed her
mother of the elder
brother’s misdeeds that
the matter came to
light. The mother in
turn approached the po-
lice and registered a
case after which the
man was arrested.
Jaipur: Within the Con-
gress circles, Dotasra is
soon gaining popularity
that he initiates new steps
and takes fresh ap-
proach to organizational
work and politics. Since
organizational work stays
behind the curtain and
does not come in public
view, speculations can be
made on it, however, one
decision of Dotasra’s has
certainly not ‘ended well’.
Dotasra decided that
for the party’s session
on Saturday, the media
will not be allowed and
therefore, there was an
informal ban on media.
Interestingly, the party
that claims of living and
breathing democracy, had
itself kept one of the legs
of democracy - media-
away from its program
which perhaps was first
of its kind of development
in Rajasthan! Howev-
er, Dotasra’s ‘experiment’
proved to be a failure
since all the state media
carried indepth news of
the session. Therefore
only one question re-
mains: What actually was
the reason for carrying
out such an unsuccessful
experiment?

POSTAL REG NO. JPC/004/2022-24
Rajendra Chhabra
Jaipur: With the return
of IAS Amit Dhaka to
his home cadre of Pun-
jab, from Rajasthan,
wherehewasservingon
deputation,onepossibil-
ity has suddenly
emerged. It is being be-
lieved that now the RLP
President and Nagaur
MP Hanuman Beniwal
may not pursue or show
interest in the Privilege
Motion action, which is
pending before the Par-
liamentary Committee.
Beniwal had brought
this Privilege Motion in
November 2019 against
then CS, DG, the then
Barmer SP Sudhir
Choudhary and Amit
Dhaka who was han-
dling the work of Home
department in CMO as
Special Secretary
.
The matter also per-
tained to 2019 when
Beniwal had travelled
to Baytu in Barmer dis-
trict for a political meet-
ing. This is a constitu-
ency of former minis-
ter Harish Choudhary,
who is a political oppo-
nent of Hanuman Beni-
wal. Meanwhile, stones
were pelted at Beniwal’s
vehicle in Baytu and the
MP accused Harish
Choudhary and his sup-
porters of the act. Beni-
wal even wanted to file
an FIR in the matter but
the police did not file an
FIR.
Beniwal thereafter
raised the issue of
Breach of Privilege in
the Parliament stating
that FIR by an MP was
not registered, and in
this, he made Amit Dha-
kaapartytothedevelop-
ment, along with other
officials of Rajasthan.
He had levelled an accu-
sation against Dhaka
that this officer had di-
rected the SP not to reg-
ister an FIR. However,
knowledgeable sources
claim that neither was
there any direct link be-
tween the incident and
Dhaka, nor was he any-
how associated with it.
However, through local
politics,Beniwalwanted
to settle his scores with
Dhaka. Notably, Dhaka
is a native of Nagaur.
Thereafter, a Parlia-
mentary Committee
has even summoned
Dhaka twice to Delhi
while the then SP of
Barmer district - Su-
dhir Choudhary - has
given his statements for
three hours straight be-
fore a committee com-
prising of 15 MPs. Fur-
ther action is now pend-
ing in the matter. But
now since Dhaka had
left Rajasthan, perhaps
Beniwal’s ‘issue’ has
virtually become in-
fructuous.
Dhaka’s return to Punjab may ‘ease’ Beniwal’s ‘fiery’ politics?

Aditi Nagar
New Delhi: Does poet
KumarVishwasholdpo-
litical capital in India
and will his statement
find a resounding ‘im-
pact’ in Punjab? While
the uninitiated may
claim that Vishwas does
not have the ‘vishwas’
of electorate, however,
an interesting discus-
sion is going on in the
political circles about
this and people are spec-
ulating if the Congress
benefit from Kumar
Vishwas’s statement?
There is widespread
speculation if the politi-
cal equation is really
changing after Vishwas’
statement, which may
lead, possibly, to BJP
also benefitting from
AAP’s defeat in Punjab?
Such discussions are
going on in the politi-
cal corridors of Delhi
where it is being said
that Aam Aadmi Party
will be at a direct loss
due to Kumar Vish-
was’s statement be-
cause before the state-
ment there was a close
fight between AAP and
Congress and Con-
gress had put all its
veterans in the elec-
toral fray.
Infact, it is being said
that after the victory in
Punjab, Kejriwal is eye-
ing Gujarat where As-
sembly elections are to
be held in December
this year and the Aam
Aadmi Party is prepar-
ing its roadmap in Gu-
jarat, following which,
Kejriwal’s eyes will be
on many states of
North India.
In such a situation,
there is speculation of
BJP’s far-reaching ben-
efits from AAP’s defeat
in Punjab. However, at
present, Congress is di-
rectly benefiting from
the statement of Kumar
Vishwas because amid
the poll propaganda,
Vishwas’sstatementhas
caused harm to AAP
. On
the other hand, Con-
gress is completely con-
fident of repeating its
government in Punjab.
That’s why there is
an old saying in poli-
tics: “There is no per-
manentenemyorfriend
in politics.”

There was never a time when you and I and all the kings gathered here have not existed and nor will there be a time when we will cease to exist.” —Bhagavad Gita n anti-BJP sen- timent is grow- ing in Telanga- na with Chief Minister K. Chandrashek ar Rao (KCR) leading the charge. His meetings with Chief Min- ister Uddhav Thackeray of Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party’s Sharad Pawar are being seen as an attempt to stitch up a non- Congress front against the BJP before the 2024 elec- tions. The meeting took place at Thackeray initia- tive. This unity effort ap- pears to be a move inde- pendent of Mamata Baner- jee and Prashant Kishor’s plans for a unified front. While reaching out to re- gional parties, both intend to keep the Congress out of their scheme of things. Could KCR and Mamata find a common meeting ground for a unified oppo- sition front? And a bigger question that looms is whether these regional leaders, including KCR, will be able to rein-in their balloon-sized ambitions in the national interest? There have to be a host of reasons for the Telan- gana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader, who once sided with the BJP in Par- liament, to turn against the BJP and Prime Minis- ter Narendra Modi. One of the reasons clear- ly is the political threat to the TRS. The saffron party is making inroads in Tel- angana and giving KCR pinpricks with remarks on bifurcation of the state that please YSR Congress chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh. On Chief Minister KCR’s birthday, the Union Ministry of Road Trans- port issued full-page ad- vertisements announcing variousprojectsinAndhra to dilute the impact ads greeting Rao. KCR has blamed the BJP for not re- leasing funds for the state’s development. KCR must remember that there is no double-engin e gov- ernment there. TELANGANA’S MOVE AGAINST THE BJP There have to be a host of reasons for the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader, who once sided with the BJP in Parliament, to turn against the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi A or those who thought that Nar- endra Modi doesn’t care for Muslims should revisit the dead- ly floods of Morbi in 1979 when thousands of people lost their lives to this disaster. There was a great risk of epidemic due to rotten bodies. Most of the people living in that area were Mus- lims. Soon after knowing the pathetic condition of the resi- dents, Modi swing into action and took them to relief camp in Rajkot. He took personal care of Muslims and arranged for their sehri during the pious Ramzan month. Modi stayed in the relief camp for 2-3 months and left only after settling them. Meanwhile in New Delhi, Chaudhary Charan Singh took over from Morarji Desai as Prime Minister. But he could not the govern for even 6 months and the experiment of Janta front failed. Fresh elections were held in 1980, bringing In- dira Gandhi back to power. However, a major political event happened on 6th April 1980 when leaders of Jansangh found- ed a political party - Bhartiya Ja- nataParty-whichhasbecomethe largest political party and is pres- ently ruling the country . The first session of BJP was held in Mum- bai where the former Prime Min- ister and where one of the BJP’s founding members Atal Bihari Vajpayeehadfamouslysaid-And- hera Chhatega, Kamal Khilega. In 1981, the country was shak- en up by mass conversion of Dal- its to Muslims at Meenaxipuram in Tamil Nadu. Sangh parivar immediately took cognisance of that and started Ekatm Yatra across the country . This embold- ened Hindus and during these yatra, representativ es of Sangh parivar connected more than 6 crore Hindus. Narendra Modi led this campaign in Gujarat giv- ing new dimensions to his lead- ership skills. Kaushik Mehta of VHP be- lieves that the concept of this yatra was of Narendra Modi only . “Every citizen of the coun- try is one. Two raths were taken out in the country simultane- ously putting kumbh of Gangaji and photo of Mother India to- gether. This spread a meaning- ful message to Hindus,” he said. Meanwhile,PrimeMinisterIn- dira Gandhi was assassinated on 31st October, 1984 and Congress rompedhomewithgreatmajority ridingonthesympathyvotes. The newly formed BJP ended up win- ning just two seats. In the next year, assembly elections were heldinGujaratandCongresswon 149 out of 182 seats while BJP could manage to win just 11 seats. This set the alarm bells on and Sangh started sending pracha- raks to strengthen the BJP . On6thDecember1986,pracha- rak Narendra Modi was sent to BJP by the then Sarsanghchal ak Bala Saheb Devras. Modi, who was working selflessly for the Sangh for last one and half dec- ades, found a new path to trudge. Soon after coming into BJP, in 1989 Modi had a tough challenge ahead which he turned into an opportunity. There was an elec- tion of Ahmedabad Nagar Nig- am. Modi took over the entire responsibility of poll strategy and publicity . He gave the slogan – ‘Bas ab Bhajapa’. That slogan played an important role in re- vival of BJP and changed the face of electoral politics. People related with the slogan and the political acceptability increased simultaneous ly . After the great win at Ahmedabad Nagar Nigam, Modi’s role in the party gained prominence and he was entrust- ed with the responsibility of Or- ganising Secretary in Gujarat. Modi took out yatras to connect with the people of the state. While he carried out ‘Nyay yatra’ championing the cause of farm- ers in 1987, he also took out Lok Shakti yatra in support of tribals in 1988. In the same year, Modi went on one more yatra - Kailash Mansarovar yatra, which was organised by External Affairs ministry for the first time. Soon after he returned from the yatra, he came to know about his fa- ther’s ill health. He immediately went to Vadnagar, only to see his father taking his last breath. Modi’s father probably was wait- ing for the last sight of his son. However, undeterred by his father’s demise, Narendra Modi left his home the next day for a journey meant for nation building. On February 1, Raj Bhawan banned the recruitment process of the university and then banned the appoint- ment of the Vice Chan- cellor in the last 2 months of the tenure. However, this perhaps did not go down well with MLA Sanyam Lod- ha who opened a front against Raj Bhawan terming the orders to be wrong and and tweeted fiercely in favor of Om Thanvi. On Friday, Raj Bhavan had banned 2 meetings of the univer- sity and along with this, Vice Chancellor Om Thanvi was banned from taking policy deci- sions. Thereafter, Sanyam Lodha came to the res- cue of the Vice Chancel- lor and said that Than- vi’s meetings were as per the rules. Interest- ingly, there seems to be a wave of sympathy in favor of Thanvi in the ongoing situation. There was never a time when you and I and all the kings gathered here have not existed and nor will there be a time when we will cease to exist.” —Bhagavad Gita n anti-BJP sen- timent is grow- ing in Telanga- na with Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) leading the charge. KCR must remember that there is no double-engine gov- ernment there. This embold- ened Hindus and during these yatra, representatives of Sangh parivar connected more than 6 crore Hindus. On6thDecember1986,pracha- rak Narendra Modi was sent to BJP by the then Sarsanghchalak Bala Saheb Devras. People related with the slogan and the political acceptability increased simultaneously . • 6. Hardoi: Prime Minis- ter Narendra Modi tar- geted rivals Samajwadi Party and the Congress in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, adding to alle- gations that the parties are soft on terror. Point- ing to the 2008 Ahmedabad serial blasts, which claimed 56 lives and left over 200 people injured, he said some parties are sym- pathetic to terrorists. Speaking at a rally in Hardoi, he accused the erstwhile Uttar Pradesh government of seeking to withdraw cases against terrorists. “The attitude of the leaders of the Samajwa- di Party and the Con- gress has been even more alarming. These people address a terror- ist like Osama as ‘ji’. These people shed tears over the elimination of terroristsinBatlaHouse encounter,” he said. “Similarly , in 14 cases of terrorist attacks in Uttar Pradesh, the Sa- majwadi government had given orders to withdraw the cases from many terrorists. These people were set- ting off blast after blast, and the Samajwadi Par- ty government was not even allowing these ter- rorists to be prosecut- ed,” he added. The BJP has tradi- tionally accused the Congress of appease- ment politics because of its sizeable Muslim support base. Once this support shifted to the Samajwadi Party, the barbs got sharper. Campaign in the run- up to this election was sharply polarised, with senior state leaders and the Chief Minister ac- cusing Akhilesh Ya- dav’s party of being supporters of Pakistan and its founder Muham- mad Ali Jinnah. The Bharatiya Janata Party may not be that comfortably placed in the Presidential elec- tion which is likely to be conducted in June-July 2022, as the President is indirectly elected by an electoral college con- sisting of the elected members of both the Houses of Parliament and the assemblies. The electoral colleges comprises 776 MPs of both the Houses and 4,120 MLAs of all the states and Union Terri- tories. The electoral col- lege has 1,098,903 votes, and a majority is 549,452 votes. As far as the value of votes is concerned, Uttar Pradesh has the highestnumberof votes, approximately83,824fol- lowed by Maharashtra and West Bengal. The BJP has a brute majority in the assem- blies of UP and Uttara- khand and any reduc- tion of seats will put the game in the opposition camp as the Chief Min- isters of different re- gional parties are try- ing to join hands. If they join hands and put up a joint candi- date, the BJP will find it difficult to get its nominee e l e c t e d . The only way would be a divi- sion in the opposition camp which may be a difficult task. After West Bengal Chief Min- ister Mamata Banerjee who is trying to expand her party, Trinamool Congress’ footprints at the national level, Tel- angana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) had a meeting with Maha- rashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray . Not only is the Mum- bai meeting important but KCR is also meeting Tamil Nadu Chief Min- ister M.K. Stalin and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Even Mamata Ba- nerjee is likely to travel to Hyderabad to meet KCR. He has the support of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda who could be another possible can- didate for President. However the Chief Ministerstryingtounite en bloc is not a good sign for the Congress which may get isolated in the opposition while the BJP has to search for a consensus candi- date for the Presiden- tial poll. K C R ’ s new initia- tive is to save his home turf as the BJP is ex- panding its base in Tel- angana. He is being forced to take on the BJP due to domestic po- litical compulsions, oth- erwise the party had been bailing out the BJP on key legislation in the Upper House since 2014. The southern states and Maharashtra ac- count for more than 200 Lok Sabha seats and al- most half of the elector- alcollegewhichcouldbe crucial in the next Presi- dential poll. If the re- gionalpartiesteamup,it will be unlikely that the BJP will have its way in the choice of President. Thus the electoral outcome in the five states which include UP will impact the presi- dential election. If the opposition puts up a candidate like NCP supremo Sharad Pawar who is capable of mus- tering support from oth- ers like the Trinamool Congress, the BJD, the TRS,theYSRCP ,theCPI- M, the CPI and the other parties, then the BJP will have a tough task ahead of it. —Agencies How Assembly polls will impact Presidential and RS elections POLITICAL INTRICACIES Patna: Lalu Prasad’s RJD has slammed its doors shut on the pos- sibility of any under- standing with the Con- gress, its estranged ally, for elections to 24 seats of the legislative coun- cil in Bihar. Did the Congress hold a ‘parallel session’ near Birla Auditorium on the same day, one that pretty much was ‘invisible’ to a ‘few’. The answer may shock you, but truth be told, the party leaders did hold ‘session’ at Maharaj restaurant near the auditorium where along with piping hot cups of tea, developments of auditorium were ‘common tongue’. Some stalwarts spent their entire time in this ‘invisible session’. Interestingly, newly appointed Chairman sahab preferred this session over the Birla one. —Yogesh Sharma THE JAI-VEERU OF CONGRESS! Dotasra decided that for the party’s session on Saturday, the media will not be allowed and therefore, there was an informal ban on media. Interestingly, the party that claims of living and breathing democracy, had itself kept one of the legs of democracy - media- away from its program which perhaps was first of its kind of development in Rajasthan! It is being be- lieved that now the RLP President and Nagaur MP Hanuman Beniwal may not pursue or show interest in the Privilege Motion action, which is pending before the Par- liamentary Committee. Beniwal had brought this Privilege Motion in November 2019 against then CS, DG, the then Barmer SP Sudhir Choudhary and Amit Dhaka who was han- dling the work of Home department in CMO as Special Secretary . The matter also per- tained to 2019 when Beniwal had travelled to Baytu in Barmer dis- trict for a political meet- ing. This is a constitu- ency of former minis- ter Harish Choudhary, who is a political oppo- nent of Hanuman Beni- wal. Meanwhile, stones were pelted at Beniwal’s vehicle in Baytu and the MP accused Harish Choudhary and his sup- porters of the act. Beni- wal even wanted to file an FIR in the matter but the police did not file an FIR. Beniwal thereafter raised the issue of Breach of Privilege in the Parliament stating that FIR by an MP was not registered, and in this, he made Amit Dha- kaapartytothedevelop- ment, along with other officials of Rajasthan. He had levelled an accu- sation against Dhaka that this officer had di- rected the SP not to reg- ister an FIR. However, knowledgeable sources claim that neither was there any direct link be- tween the incident and Dhaka, nor was he any- how associated with it. However, through local politics,Beniwalwanted to settle his scores with Dhaka. Notably, Dhaka is a native of Nagaur. Thereafter, a Parlia- mentary Committee has even summoned Dhaka twice to Delhi while the then SP of Barmer district - Su- dhir Choudhary - has given his statements for three hours straight be- fore a committee com- prising of 15 MPs. There is widespread speculation if the politi- cal equation is really changing after Vishwas’ statement, which may lead, possibly, to BJP also benefitting from AAP’s defeat in Punjab?
