surprising trend
emerges in Ra-
jasthan where a
mere 12% of voters can
significantly sway the
electoral landscape, pro-
pelling one party to a re-
sounding victory while
relegating the other to the
sidelines.
Analyzing data from
six assembly elections
spanning 1993 to 2018,
the pattern becomes evi-
dent. The focus is on how
a slight difference in vote
percentage can translate
into a substantial shift in
political fortunes.
In the 1993 elections,
BJPsecured38.60%ofthe
votes, claiming 95 seats,
forming the government
despiteanarrowmarginof
0.33% over Congress,
whichgarnered38.27%.A
similar scenario unfolded
in 2018, with Congress
winning 100 seats with
39.30% votes, just 0.53%
more than BJP, which se-
cured 73 seats. In 2008,
Congress garnered 2.55%
more votes than BJP, se-
curing 96 seats compared
toBJP’s78.Conversely,in
2003,BJPobtained3.55%
morevotesthanCongress,
winning a clear majority
with 120 seats.
Examining specific
electionsfurtherreinforces
theimpactofthisswing.In
1998,Congresssecuredan
overwhelming 153 seats
with 44.95% votes, sur-
passing BJP’s 33.23%,
which only garnered 33
seats. A similar scenario
played out in 2013, with
BJP securing 163 seats
with 45.17% votes, leav-
ing Congress with a mere
33.07% and 21 seats.
This data-driven analy-
sis highlights the signifi-
cant role played by this
12% swing in votes, often
termed as “destiny mak-
ers.” The trend indicates
that if this crucial voter
segment decisively sup-
ports one party, it can lead
to a landslide victory.

DAILY BRIEF RESPITE
FOR PALESTINIANS A
WELCOME MOVE
fterthousandsperishedandbuildingsflattened
in relentless bombing by Israel there is finally
some respite for Palestinians in the northern
Gaza strip. The pause in attacks and opening of two
humanitarian corridors has happened at the behest of
the US and the announcement was accordingly made
byWhite House. Some reports claimed that Israel may
not agree to the brief halt in hostilities but that has not
beenthecase.Thepauses,theWhiteHousesaid,would
allow humanitarian aid to reach the people and to fa-
cilitate their movement to a safer place.
The development may not mark the end of war but
it signifies the lowering of its intensity. If Hamas
agrees to release the Israelis it is holding as hostages
the region could see return of tentative peace. An
audacious attack by Hamas on Israel is making in-
nocent Palestinians, including children, face the con-
sequences. The terrorist organization should not
think of such misadventures in future.

CONTEMPT OF COURT
& HEALTHY CRITICISM
n a notable shift towards transparency, Chief
Justice of India DY Chandrachud recently
said in a newspaper interview that the law on
contempt of court should not be wielded as a tool to
stifle criticism against judges. This carries significant
implications for the media and legal fraternity, signal-
ing a move towards fostering a culture of robust dis-
course on judicial matters. If followed, it would also
reduce thousands of contempt cases pending in courts.

FINAL WC ’23
LEAGUE
Umpires did ask Shakib a cou-
ple of times to reconsider his
appeal but he didn’t, much to
the disappointment of the Sri
Lankan side. While it brought
about disharmony among the
two teams, the incident has
also invoked many debates
about cricketing ethics. That
conversation may be reserved
till after the World Cup but the
Bangladeshi players will rue
an opportunity missed where
they could have shone
brightly in an ICC event!
In the midst of all the mad-
ness and brilliance, the Indian
juggernaut is calmly destroy-
ing all oppositions! In a one-
sided affair, India defeated
the Proteas as Indian bowlers
wreaked havoc once again.
It was India’s biggest victory
against the South Africans in
World Cup history. The two
sides have been the best
teams in the tournament so
far but Team India demon-
strated that in current
form, they are far ahead
even against the next best!
With the picture for knockouts
quite clear, India will face
Netherlands in the final league
game. Though it will have no
bearing on the final standings,
the match will be important
for India to continue their mo-
mentum. The Men in Blue will
do well to keep their foot on
the accelerator and not take
the game lightly. Everyone re-
members that India topped the
group stages in the previous
two World Cups, only to falter
in the semis. This time though
the Indian side looks far more
determined and focussed
to end its 10-year ICC
championship drought!
Maxwell Brilliance, Matthews Row Dominate Final Phase of League...
KnockoutsPromise
FireworksinDiwaliSeason
he final
week of the
league stage
in the ODI
World Cup
is now underway and has
witnessed a flurry of re-
cords being smashed.
Hosts India mowed down
the famed South African
batting by skittling them
out for just 83 and winning
the match by a whopping
243 runs! This perfor-
mance came just a couple
of days after wrapping up
Sri Lanka for a paltry 55.
India’s 8 wins in 8 games
has not only created his-
tory but also made them
firm favourites for World
Cup glory!
If Team India’s heroics
were not enough, we soon
saw the knock of a lifetime
by Glen Maxwell against
Afghanistan where he
smashed 201 not out and
clinched victory from the
jaws of defeat! The cherry
on top for the week was the
controversial ‘timed out’
dismissal of Angelo Mat-
thews - a first ever in the
history of international
cricket and the debate sur-
rounding cricketing ethics!
This breath-taking ensem-
ble in the final phase of the
league promises a truly
mouth-watering finale to
the World Cup in the
knockout stage.
The first few days of the
week have definitely en-
sured that we don’t have to
wait for the final game of
the league for the semis
spots to be finalised. It is
now almost a certainty,
barring a miracle, that
Wankhede will host India
versus New Zealand and
Eden Gardens will see a
South Africa-Australia
clash on 15th and 16th No-
vember respectively.
While India and South Af-
rica had already sealed
their spots, the Aussies of-
ficially qualified for the
knockouts only after their
incredible win against Af-
ghanistan.
It’s not always that
teams down 91 for 7 and
requiring a further 200
runs more to win, ultimate-
ly emerge victorious with-
out losing any more wick-
ets. It was a special night
for Maxwell’s Indian fans
as he single-handedly car-
riedAustralia over the line,
while battling cramps for
most of his exceptional
knock. Fighting on one leg
and cramping badly, Max-
well in a stunning display
of clean hitting, took just
128 balls to get his double
ton, the biggest in a run
chase in ODIs. So remark-
able was his stroke-play
that in the 202-run unbeat-
en partnership, Pat Cum-
mins made only 12 runs!
Eventually, the Aussies
overhauled the target with
19 balls remaining.
Credit, however, must
also be given to the tal-
ented Afghan side. They
have been consistently on
the rise and have played
phenomenal cricket in this
World Cup, beating top
sides like Pakistan, Eng-
land, Sri Lanka in the pro-
cess. Their loss to Bangla-
desh at the start of the tour-
nament will sting them as
that would have given
them a stronger chance to
qualify for the semi-finals.
Importantly, despite the
poor shows by other Asian
sides in the competition
apart from India, Afghani-
stan is the one story that
will bring joy to many
cricket lovers!
Much was expected
from Bangladesh in condi-
tions which are similar to
their own back home. Un-
fortunately, their campaign
started with a controversy
when Tamim Iqbal was left
out of the World Cup
squad. It has been a down-
ward spiral since then for
the side led by the gritty
all-rounder, Shakib Al
Hasan. After continuous
defeats and lack of com-
petitive spirit, the Bangla
captain got himself in-
volved in an unsavoury
incident after he appealed
for a ‘time out’ against Sri
Lankan batter, Angelo
Mathews.
Umpires did ask Shakib
a couple of times to recon-
sider his appeal but he
didn’t, much to the disap-
pointment of the Sri Lan-
kan side. While it brought
about disharmony among
the two teams, the incident
has also invoked many de-
bates about cricketing eth-
ics. That conversation may

zWill Gehlot form his
government in Ra-
jasthan once again and
fulfil his wishes of be-
coming CM for the
fourth time?
Dr Jagdeesh Chandra:
Today Will Gehlot form
government and become
CM for the fourth time is
a question, whose answer
will be known only on
December 3, but it is cer-
tain that, as of this mo-
ment, Gehlot is totally
confident that he will
form the government. It
is his analysis that as of
now, Congress has
around 82 seats & within
the next week or ten
days, the situation will
change, such is their
claim, and that the Con-
gress will touch the 100
seats required. But the
betting market and the
surveys are terming it to
be BJP’s victory. Pha-
laudi betting market is
claiming that it would be
120-130 seats in favour
of BJP and Congress
would be around 65-70
seats. Apart from that
ABP, India Today and
other similar institutions
have done surveys, which
say that BJP would get
anywhere between 115-
125 seats and Congress
would be between 62 to
85. Gehlot’s analysis is
also on the same lines.
There is only one survey
in the nation that has
claimed that Congress
would get around 110
seats and BJP would get
about 82 seats and that
institution claims that it
had done survey in Kar-
nataka and said that Con-
gress would get 135 seats
which proved to be true.
They had said Congress
would get 45 seats in
Himachal and Congress
got 40 seats. Hence, they
are hopeful that Congress
government will be
formed in Rajasthan. But
the majority of surveys
hint at BJP government.
But perhaps the most im-
portant parameter of this
election and if Gehlot
will form government
again is if this election is
being fought on the face
of sitting legislators or on
Ashok Gehlot’s face. If it
is being contested in the
face of MLAs, then any-
thing can happen and
Congress can get stuck at
40 odd seats too. The rea-
son for this is that there is
immense anger and dis-
gruntlement against
MLAs because there are
complaints of interfer-
ence in transfers of Pat-
waris, Collectors, SHOs
and SPs, interference in
routine administration,
corruption complaints
and thus it is being said
that during this govern-
ment, legislators had
been behaving like re-
gional CMs and even CM
himself was compelled
and although he too ac-
cepted that it was not
right, but what could be
done, it was his political
compulsion. There were
two problems. Firstly, he
had to keep the flock to-
gether so that they do not
shift to the Pilot camp
and secondly, he had to
send money to AICC as
well like any other CM
for any other party. Due
to both the reasons, the
administration was hit in
the field. In fact, Gehlot’s
own slogan of good gov-
ernance was hit and I can
bet on it that when he
would sit at night and
mull on things, he must
feel sad on the situation.
So let’s see what happens
in the days to come.
zWhy does Sonia Gan-
dhi have so much trust
on Ashok Gehlot? Why
did she give complete
free hand to him in ticket
distribution?
The trust is there because
of an emotional bond
since the time of Rajiv
Gandhi as she considers
him like family. Truth be
told, the trust Sonia Gan-
dhi has on Gehlot is more
than she has on Rahul
and Priyanka, the situa-
tion says so. Look at the
developments on Sep-
tember 25, all his crimes
were forgiven. It hap-
pened in Jaipur and in a
way, we can say that it
was a rebellion of sorts
when High Command’s
orders were not followed.
When Maken left Ge-
hlot’s residence, he had
to call up Sonia Gandhi
and apologise for being
unable to get the state
unit to follow High Com-
mand’s directive. He
merely had to take a one-
line proposal that the
state unit gives all rights
to the High Command on
selection of new Chief
Minister i.e. Pilot’s chris-
tening. But that couldn’t
happen and look at the
time since then, Ashok
Gehlot is secured at his
place. He apologised and
everything ended. So,
Gehlot and Sonia’s rela-
tion is beyond decoding
and perhaps that is why
some people say that
there may be a secret un-
derstanding between the
two that if push comes to
shove, she will always
stand behind Gehlot.
zAmong his three trust-
ed lieutenants, why
could Gehlot get ticket
only for Dhariwal and
not the other two as well
i.e. Mahesh Joshi and
Dharmendra Rathore?
Do you think Gehlot did
not use his veto for both
of them?
See, veto is not used for
everyone. Veto itself
means for one and for the
remaining individuals
recommendations can be
made. There is word in
political circles that since
Dhariwal’s candidature
was kind of like prestige
point for Gehlot, there
may have been some deal
of-sorts that has been
made. But Gehlot estab-
lished his credibility by
getting a ticket for Dhari-
wal and gave message
that he is the ‘Boss.’Dha-
riwal’s situation is differ-
ent from these two. The
Screening Committee
had recommended giving
ticket to Dhariwal at the
initial stage, but Dhari-
wal was not ready to con-
test. He wanted that tick-
et be given to his son, but
Gogoi said that ticket
will not be given to sons
or relatives, although at a
later stage they did give.
After this, the Screening
committee meeting hap-
pened and perhaps some
individuals, may be from
Pilot camp, complained
to Sonia Gandhi that
Dhariwal’s ticket has not
been cut. So just as the
candidature was dis-
cussed, Sonia asked if
‘he is the same man’.
Then after multiple ses-
sions and deliberations,
Gehlot came out to be the
ultimate winner and Dha-
riwal was given ticket.
As far as the remaining
two are concerned, they
are Gehlot’s trusted lieu-
tenants and were there in
the September 25 rebel-
lion, but this time around,
Gehlot could see through
Dhariwal only and not
the other two.
zSo what is Mahesh
Joshi and Dharmendra
Rathore’s future in Con-
gress because there was
word that Joshi could
join BJP also?
Discussion was held on
Joshi joining BJP, but it
was not to be, perhaps
over some conditions
that he may have had.
See, Joshi is a loyalist in-
dividual. He is loyal to
Gehlot, is a calm and col-
lected person and takes
everyone along. This
time around, some situa-
tions arose and cases
happened that the matter
went out of hand.And the
three men, Dhariwal,
Joshi and Rathore, who
were considered accused
of rebellion, one of them,
Dhariwal, was let go and
these two were not. But
now I do not think that he
will be heading to BJP
since its too late now. So
what next then? If Gehlot
comes back to power,
then he would be reha-
bilitated. As far as Dhar-
mendra Rathore is con-
cerned, it does not matter
to him, if he has not been
fielded since he is Ge-
hlot’s ‘Hanuman’ and
when Gehlot comes to
power, Rathore always
shines. He is Gehlot loy-
alist and is executioner
for him. So, I see their
rise with Gehlot’s rise.
zQuestions were raised
on Assembly Speaker Dr
CP Joshi during the re-
bellion. What is your
take on it?
It was not during the re-
bellion but during the
discussions on ticket dis-
tribution when question
was raised on fielding
Dhariwal, Joshi and
Rathore. During that
time, some individuals
made themselves heard
before the High Com-
mand, albeit in a hushed
manner, that these three
were identified but there
was a fourth individual
also. When the High
Command enquired, it
was told that the strategy
to give resignations, as
part of rebellion, was
forged at Dr CP Joshi’s
residence and when they
could not understand
what could be done, they
approached CP Joshi and
it was him who showed
them the way forward.
This was the complaint
that was made before the
High Command. How-
ever, CP Joshi’s image is
a credible image and he
has his own individuality
before the High Com-
mand. It is believed that
he is a powerful speaker
that he wouldn’t have
done so. Thus, Joshi re-
ceived the benefit of
doubt. Interestingly, Ge-
hlot has even announced
that Joshi is his natural
ally & if he becomes CM
the next time, he will
make CP the Assembly
Speaker yet again.
zIt is said that Rahul
and his team had decid-
ed on cutting 50 percent
tickets of sitting MLAs,
but it did not happen.
How did Gehlot get So-
nia to overturn this deci-
sion of Rahul’s?
It is true that a decision
was made based on sur-
veys that ticket of half of
sitting legislators would
be cut. In the beginning,
the party was of the
thought that since there
were several complaints
against the legislators
and there was immense
anti-incumbency against
MLAs, thus, they should
not be fielded. Therefore,
half the tickets were to be
cut. Hence out of 113,
half of the tickets were to
be cut, but it didn’t hap-
pen and merely two doz-
en tickets were cut. So
the question is why did
the Party not cut tickets?
When CEC met, Rahul
Gandhi saw the list and
said that this is the same
old list and questioned
the motive behind hold-
ing the meeting and dis-
cussing it. So, Rahul was
of the idea that tickets
must be cut. Any ways,
that meeting was can-
celled and rescheduled
after which Gehlot
brought a new theory
saying that there is lack
of good candidates in the
field and there may be a
rebellion as well. Rahul
Gandhi was convinced
with Gehlot;s word and
said that if we have to
loose, then we may con-
test the same leaders.
This would also mean
that if we lose then the
gap of votes would be
less. Moreover, I have
said in the past too that
when tickets are stalled
till last moment, those
tickets are given by Ge-
hlot only. This is because
his home work is so
strong that if any issue
comes up, then that seat
ultimately goes in Ge-
hlot’s kitty only. So now,
the question is who actu-
ally dominated the ticket
distribution? Rahul Gan-
dhi and a few others
asked for certain MLAs
to be given ticket, but on
the contrary, the ticket of
all these MLAs were cut.
As far asAshok Gehlot is
concerned, he has his
own mathematics regard-
ing politics. I would go
on to say that after Amit
shah, if there is another
leader who is the second
most successful Home
Minister too, it would be
Ashok Gehlot since he
also has the Home port-
folio. His intelligence
and surveillance system
is at par with Amit Shah
and I feel that if he had
been in BJP, he would
have been a major part of
Modi-Shah team. So on
the basis of that intelli-
gence team, Gehlot won
against Pilot. So as far as
cutting tickets is con-
cerned, ultimately ‘mag-
ic’ happened!

A SYMPHONY OF LIGHTS
Preparations, Decorations, and Sweet Delights
ILLUMINATING CREATIVITY WITH RANGOLI
One of the most cherished traditions in our sanskriti is the
creation of intricate rangoli designs. In earlier days, rangoli
making was done right from scratch but nowadays its is much
easier and anyone can try a hand with stencils and readymade
colour pallettes. Make a motif, sprinkle some flowers and
light a deepak or float a diya in a glass jar and lo!
THE BEGINNING OF PREPARATIONS
The preparations for Diwali start weeks in advance
with cleaning up and decluttering our homes. We
must also decltter our minds and walk the path of
love and forgiveness. Now, it is time to dress up in
your best and immerse yourself in the festive joyous
spirit of Deepawali. Be it lights strings, deepaks,
LED lights, candles - whatever you can manage and
afford - remember the point is lighting up your home.
A very Happy Narak Chaturdashi or Choti Diwali as
it is also called, to all our readers. This year, as wars
displace lakhs of people around the world, we
must pray to God for peace and joy. As
individuals, let’s try a simple thing this Deepawali-
let us bring the joy of festivity to the homes of
others too as we do to our own.
t’s the time of the year when everything takes
on the special golden hue of joyous festivity
which no other festival except Deepawali is
imbued with, the five auspicious days which
start from Dhanteras celebrated on Friday,
today - Narak chaturdashi and then Deepawali tomorrow
followed by Goverdhan Puja and Bhai Dooj are looked
forward to by each one of us! Every single festival of this
period has it’s own stories, mantras and belief system with
rituals and ceremonies in which all the Hindu Gods and
deities, in some form or the other are worshipped, thanked
and paid tribute to.
The entire nation and even abroad, cities, malls, towns
and the smallest village is decorated with lights, deep-
aks, flowers, rangolis and more. It is a festival
which fires up every individual, organisation,
corporation, the government and the econo-
my with energy and positivity.
As we celebrate this festival of lights,
remember Deepawali is a festival of to-
getherness, of bonding, of love and hap-
piness. Try and do the decorations to-
gether, let your children help, remem-
ber a perfect rangoli is one made to-
gether even if it is lopsided or blurred.
Ensure that the elderly in your family
are a part of the celebrations, in fact
go one step further and invite the sen-
ior citizens in your locality whose chil-
dren will not be able to come home for
Diwali, to celebrate it with you. Make
sharing and ‘daan’ a blessed part of your
festive joy, give to the needy. We can eat one
mithai less (better for our health too) give
that dabba of kaju katli to our maid.
Let us celebrate Diwali, Dil se...

Analyzing data from six assembly elections spanning 1993 to 2018, the pattern becomes evi- dent. The focus is on how a slight difference in vote percentage can translate into a substantial shift in political fortunes. In the 1993 elections, BJPsecured38.60%ofthe votes, claiming 95 seats, forming the government despiteanarrowmarginof 0.33% over Congress, whichgarnered38.27%.A similar scenario unfolded in 2018, with Congress winning 100 seats with 39.30% votes, just 0.53% more than BJP, which se- cured 73 seats. In 2008, Congress garnered 2.55% more votes than BJP, se- curing 96 seats compared toBJP’s78.Conversely,in 2003,BJPobtained3.55% morevotesthanCongress, winning a clear majority with 120 seats. A CONTEMPT OF COURT & HEALTHY CRITICISM n a notable shift towards transparency, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud recently said in a newspaper interview that the law on contempt of court should not be wielded as a tool to stifle criticism against judges. This carries significant implications for the media and legal fraternity, signal- ing a move towards fostering a culture of robust dis- course on judicial matters. If followed, it would also reduce thousands of contempt cases pending in courts. KnockoutsPromise FireworksinDiwaliSeason he final week of the league stage in the ODI World Cup is now underway and has witnessed a flurry of re- cords being smashed. Hosts India mowed down the famed South African batting by skittling them out for just 83 and winning the match by a whopping 243 runs! This perfor- mance came just a couple of days after wrapping up Sri Lanka for a paltry 55. India’s 8 wins in 8 games has not only created his- tory but also made them firm favourites for World Cup glory! If Team India’s heroics were not enough, we soon saw the knock of a lifetime by Glen Maxwell against Afghanistan where he smashed 201 not out and clinched victory from the jaws of defeat! The cherry on top for the week was the controversial ‘timed out’ dismissal of Angelo Mat- thews - a first ever in the history of international cricket and the debate sur- rounding cricketing ethics! This breath-taking ensem- ble in the final phase of the league promises a truly mouth-watering finale to the World Cup in the knockout stage. The first few days of the week have definitely en- sured that we don’t have to wait for the final game of the league for the semis spots to be finalised. It is now almost a certainty, barring a miracle, that Wankhede will host India versus New Zealand and Eden Gardens will see a South Africa-Australia clash on 15th and 16th No- vember respectively. While India and South Af- rica had already sealed their spots, the Aussies of- ficially qualified for the knockouts only after their incredible win against Af- ghanistan. It’s not always that teams down 91 for 7 and requiring a further 200 runs more to win, ultimate- ly emerge victorious with- out losing any more wick- ets. It was a special night for Maxwell’s Indian fans as he single-handedly car- riedAustralia over the line, while battling cramps for most of his exceptional knock. Fighting on one leg and cramping badly, Max- well in a stunning display of clean hitting, took just 128 balls to get his double ton, the biggest in a run chase in ODIs. So remark- able was his stroke-play that in the 202-run unbeat- en partnership, Pat Cum- mins made only 12 runs! Eventually, the Aussies overhauled the target with 19 balls remaining. Credit, however, must also be given to the tal- ented Afghan side. They have been consistently on the rise and have played phenomenal cricket in this World Cup, beating top sides like Pakistan, Eng- land, Sri Lanka in the pro- cess. Their loss to Bangla- desh at the start of the tour- nament will sting them as that would have given them a stronger chance to qualify for the semi-finals. Importantly, despite the poor shows by other Asian sides in the competition apart from India, Afghani- stan is the one story that will bring joy to many cricket lovers! Much was expected from Bangladesh in condi- tions which are similar to their own back home. Un- fortunately, their campaign started with a controversy when Tamim Iqbal was left out of the World Cup squad. It has been a down- ward spiral since then for the side led by the gritty all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan. After continuous defeats and lack of com- petitive spirit, the Bangla captain got himself in- volved in an unsavoury incident after he appealed for a ‘time out’ against Sri Lankan batter, Angelo Mathews. Umpires did ask Shakib a couple of times to recon- sider his appeal but he didn’t, much to the disap- pointment of the Sri Lan- kan side. While it brought about disharmony among the two teams, the incident has also invoked many de- bates about cricketing eth- ics. • 9. 08 Greetings on Naraka Chatudashi ! May this festive season fill our lives with joy, peace, goodness, wealth, good health and prosperity! Dr Jagdeesh Chandra, CMD & Editor-in-Chief THOUGHT OF THE DAY Postal Reg No. JPC/004/2022-24 Jaipur, Saturday | November 11, 2023 www.firstindia.co.in firstindia.co.in/epapers/jaipur thefirstindia thefirstindia thefirstindia zWill Gehlot form his government in Ra- jasthan once again and fulfil his wishes of be- coming CM for the fourth time? Dr Jagdeesh Chandra: Today Will Gehlot form government and become CM for the fourth time is a question, whose answer will be known only on December 3, but it is cer- tain that, as of this mo- ment, Gehlot is totally confident that he will form the government. It is his analysis that as of now, Congress has around 82 seats & within the next week or ten days, the situation will change, such is their claim, and that the Con- gress will touch the 100 seats required. But the betting market and the surveys are terming it to be BJP’s victory. Pha- laudi betting market is claiming that it would be 120-130 seats in favour of BJP and Congress would be around 65-70 seats. Apart from that ABP, India Today and other similar institutions have done surveys, which say that BJP would get anywhere between 115- 125 seats and Congress would be between 62 to 85. Gehlot’s analysis is also on the same lines. There is only one survey in the nation that has claimed that Congress would get around 110 seats and BJP would get about 82 seats and that institution claims that it had done survey in Kar- nataka and said that Con- gress would get 135 seats which proved to be true. They had said Congress would get 45 seats in Himachal and Congress got 40 seats. Hence, they are hopeful that Congress government will be formed in Rajasthan. But the majority of surveys hint at BJP government. But perhaps the most im- portant parameter of this election and if Gehlot will form government again is if this election is being fought on the face of sitting legislators or on Ashok Gehlot’s face. If it is being contested in the face of MLAs, then any- thing can happen and Congress can get stuck at 40 odd seats too. The rea- son for this is that there is immense anger and dis- gruntlement against MLAs because there are complaints of interfer- ence in transfers of Pat- waris, Collectors, SHOs and SPs, interference in routine administration, corruption complaints and thus it is being said that during this govern- ment, legislators had been behaving like re- gional CMs and even CM himself was compelled and although he too ac- cepted that it was not right, but what could be done, it was his political compulsion. There were two problems. Firstly, he had to keep the flock to- gether so that they do not shift to the Pilot camp and secondly, he had to send money to AICC as well like any other CM for any other party. Due to both the reasons, the administration was hit in the field. In fact, Gehlot’s own slogan of good gov- ernance was hit and I can bet on it that when he would sit at night and mull on things, he must feel sad on the situation. So let’s see what happens in the days to come. zWhy does Sonia Gan- dhi have so much trust on Ashok Gehlot? Why did she give complete free hand to him in ticket distribution? The trust is there because of an emotional bond since the time of Rajiv Gandhi as she considers him like family. Truth be told, the trust Sonia Gan- dhi has on Gehlot is more than she has on Rahul and Priyanka, the situa- tion says so. Look at the developments on Sep- tember 25, all his crimes were forgiven. It hap- pened in Jaipur and in a way, we can say that it was a rebellion of sorts when High Command’s orders were not followed. When Maken left Ge- hlot’s residence, he had to call up Sonia Gandhi and apologise for being unable to get the state unit to follow High Com- mand’s directive. He merely had to take a one- line proposal that the state unit gives all rights to the High Command on selection of new Chief Minister i.e. Pilot’s chris- tening. But that couldn’t happen and look at the time since then, Ashok Gehlot is secured at his place. He apologised and everything ended. So, Gehlot and Sonia’s rela- tion is beyond decoding and perhaps that is why some people say that there may be a secret un- derstanding between the two that if push comes to shove, she will always stand behind Gehlot. zAmong his three trust- ed lieutenants, why could Gehlot get ticket only for Dhariwal and not the other two as well i.e. Mahesh Joshi and Dharmendra Rathore? Do you think Gehlot did not use his veto for both of them? See, veto is not used for everyone. Veto itself means for one and for the remaining individuals recommendations can be made. There is word in political circles that since Dhariwal’s candidature was kind of like prestige point for Gehlot, there may have been some deal of-sorts that has been made. But Gehlot estab- lished his credibility by getting a ticket for Dhari- wal and gave message that he is the ‘Boss.’Dha- riwal’s situation is differ- ent from these two. The Screening Committee had recommended giving ticket to Dhariwal at the initial stage, but Dhari- wal was not ready to con- test. He wanted that tick- et be given to his son, but Gogoi said that ticket will not be given to sons or relatives, although at a later stage they did give. After this, the Screening committee meeting hap- pened and perhaps some individuals, may be from Pilot camp, complained to Sonia Gandhi that Dhariwal’s ticket has not been cut. So just as the candidature was dis- cussed, Sonia asked if ‘he is the same man’. Then after multiple ses- sions and deliberations, Gehlot came out to be the ultimate winner and Dha- riwal was given ticket. As far as the remaining two are concerned, they are Gehlot’s trusted lieu- tenants and were there in the September 25 rebel- lion, but this time around, Gehlot could see through Dhariwal only and not the other two. zSo what is Mahesh Joshi and Dharmendra Rathore’s future in Con- gress because there was word that Joshi could join BJP also? Discussion was held on Joshi joining BJP, but it was not to be, perhaps over some conditions that he may have had. See, Joshi is a loyalist in- dividual. He is loyal to Gehlot, is a calm and col- lected person and takes everyone along. This time around, some situa- tions arose and cases happened that the matter went out of hand. And the three men, Dhariwal, Joshi and Rathore, who were considered accused of rebellion, one of them, Dhariwal, was let go and these two were not. But now I do not think that he will be heading to BJP since its too late now. So what next then? If Gehlot comes back to power, then he would be reha- bilitated. As far as Dhar- mendra Rathore is con- cerned, it does not matter to him, if he has not been fielded since he is Ge- hlot’s ‘Hanuman’ and when Gehlot comes to power, Rathore always shines. He is Gehlot loy- alist and is executioner for him. So, I see their rise with Gehlot’s rise. zQuestions were raised on Assembly Speaker Dr CP Joshi during the re- bellion. What is your take on it? It was not during the re- bellion but during the discussions on ticket dis- tribution when question was raised on fielding Dhariwal, Joshi and Rathore. During that time, some individuals made themselves heard before the High Com- mand, albeit in a hushed manner, that these three were identified but there was a fourth individual also. When the High Command enquired, it was told that the strategy to give resignations, as part of rebellion, was forged at Dr CP Joshi’s residence and when they could not understand what could be done, they approached CP Joshi and it was him who showed them the way forward. This was the complaint that was made before the High Command. How- ever, CP Joshi’s image is a credible image and he has his own individuality before the High Com- mand. It is believed that he is a powerful speaker that he wouldn’t have done so. Thus, Joshi re- ceived the benefit of doubt. Interestingly, Ge- hlot has even announced that Joshi is his natural ally & if he becomes CM the next time, he will make CP the Assembly Speaker yet again. zIt is said that Rahul and his team had decid- ed on cutting 50 percent tickets of sitting MLAs, but it did not happen. How did Gehlot get So- nia to overturn this deci- sion of Rahul’s? It is true that a decision was made based on sur- veys that ticket of half of sitting legislators would be cut. In the beginning, the party was of the thought that since there were several complaints against the legislators and there was immense anti-incumbency against MLAs, thus, they should not be fielded. Therefore, half the tickets were to be cut. Hence out of 113, half of the tickets were to be cut, but it didn’t hap- pen and merely two doz- en tickets were cut. So the question is why did the Party not cut tickets? When CEC met, Rahul Gandhi saw the list and said that this is the same old list and questioned the motive behind hold- ing the meeting and dis- cussing it. So, Rahul was of the idea that tickets must be cut. Any ways, that meeting was can- celled and rescheduled after which Gehlot brought a new theory saying that there is lack of good candidates in the field and there may be a rebellion as well. Rahul Gandhi was convinced with Gehlot;s word and said that if we have to loose, then we may con- test the same leaders. This would also mean that if we lose then the gap of votes would be less. Moreover, I have said in the past too that when tickets are stalled till last moment, those tickets are given by Ge- hlot only. This is because his home work is so strong that if any issue comes up, then that seat ultimately goes in Ge- hlot’s kitty only. So now, the question is who actu- ally dominated the ticket distribution? Rahul Gan- dhi and a few others asked for certain MLAs to be given ticket, but on the contrary, the ticket of all these MLAs were cut. As far asAshok Gehlot is concerned, he has his own mathematics regard- ing politics. I would go on to say that after Amit shah, if there is another leader who is the second most successful Home Minister too, it would be Ashok Gehlot since he also has the Home port- folio. His intelligence and surveillance system is at par with Amit Shah and I feel that if he had been in BJP, he would have been a major part of Modi-Shah team. So on the basis of that intelli- gence team, Gehlot won against Pilot. So as far as cutting tickets is con- cerned, ultimately ‘mag- ic’ happened! TO BE CONTINUED... GEHLOTHADDECISIVESAYINCONG TICKETDISTRIBUTION:DrCHANDRA Dr Jagdeesh Chandra, CEO and Editor-in-Chief, Bharat24-Vision of New India and CMD and Editor-in-Chief, First India News and First India, reveals how before Congress went to the ‘battle ground,’ there was an internal squabble between leaders to come out on top, how Gehot wishes to form government yet again, how all but one survey claim that BJP will return, how Gehlot gave ticket to Dhariwal but could not get tickets for Dr Mahesh Joshi and Dharmendra Rathore. Interestingly, terming that Gehlot’s intelligence and surveillance would have been close associate of Amit Shah, Dr Chandra stressed that if Gehlot would have been in BJP, he would have been a major part of Modi-Shah team. In earlier days, rangoli making was done right from scratch but nowadays its is much easier and anyone can try a hand with stencils and readymade colour pallettes. Make a motif, sprinkle some flowers and light a deepak or float a diya in a glass jar and lo! THE BEGINNING OF PREPARATIONS The preparations for Diwali start weeks in advance with cleaning up and decluttering our homes. We must also decltter our minds and walk the path of love and forgiveness. Now, it is time to dress up in your best and immerse yourself in the festive joyous spirit of Deepawali. Be it lights strings, deepaks, LED lights, candles - whatever you can manage and afford - remember the point is lighting up your home. Every single festival of this period has it’s own stories, mantras and belief system with rituals and ceremonies in which all the Hindu Gods and deities, in some form or the other are worshipped, thanked and paid tribute to. The entire nation and even abroad, cities, malls, towns and the smallest village is decorated with lights, deep- aks, flowers, rangolis and more. It is a festival which fires up every individual, organisation, corporation, the government and the econo- my with energy and positivity. Try and do the decorations to- gether, let your children help, remem- ber a perfect rangoli is one made to- gether even if it is lopsided or blurred. Ensure that the elderly in your family are a part of the celebrations, in fact go one step further and invite the sen- ior citizens in your locality whose chil- dren will not be able to come home for Diwali, to celebrate it with you.
