RBI REPO RATE HIKE!
Lending rates to go up
and EMIs to get costlier
New Delhi (ANI): The
Reserve Bank of India
(RBI) on Wednesday
raised the interest rate
by 50 basis points to a
two-year high of 4.9 per
cent as it doubled down
to tame inflation that
has surged in the last
couple of months in
Asia’s third-largest
economy
.
This is the second
hike in the repo rate in
as many months. The
rate hike comes on the
back of a 40 bps in-
crease effected by the
RBI at an unscheduled
meeting on May 4.
Hike in repo rate by central bank
will negatively impact people who
are already affected by soaring
debts, with increased EMI rates:
Cong leader Randeep Surjewala.
HIGHLIGHTS
 This is the second
hike in the repo rate
in as many months
 Rate hike comes on
the back of a 40 bps
increase effected by
the RBI on May 4
 Repo rate stands

further supply-side
measures which they
consider as necessary.

Editors’ body tells to
some news channels
New Delhi: Noting that
the “irresponsible con-
duct” of some news
channels has made the
national discourse
coarse and the gap be-
tween communities un-
bridgeable, Editors
Guild of India (EGI) on
Wednesday asked them
to pause and take a crit-
ical look at what they
have done just to in-
crease viewership and
profit during Kanpur
violence.
It also called for
stricter vigilance by
broadcasters & journal-
ist bodies, noting that
recent violence caused
“unnecessary embar-
rassment” to country
.
The EGI demands
that these
channels pause
and take a critical look at
what they have done by
giving legitimacy to
divisive and toxic voices
that have made the

Lucknow: BJP leader
from Maharashtra Kri-
pa Shankar Singh has
sent a letter to CM Yogi
to offer Marathi as an
optional language in
UP. Kripa Shankar Sin-
gh, who belongs to
Jaunpur in Uttar
Pradesh, has been
tasked with the cam-
paign to woo north In-
dians in Maharashtra.
According to sourc-
es, the CM has agreed
in principle with the
suggestion and a pilot
project may be rolled
out in Varanasi.
The letter also opines
that it might help stu-
dents in getting better
jobs in Maharashtra.
“As you know, for
the past 50 years I have
been staying in Maha-
rashtra and maintain-
ing relationships
inUP, especially in
Purvanchal. During
this tenure of 50 years,
I noticed that when
students come to Ma-
harashtra, they face a
number of issues due
to lack of knowledge
of Marathi. There are
many vacancies or
corporations that re-
quire knowledge of
Marathi,” he ex-
plained.
It is noteworthy that
in recent weeks, the
use of Marathi has also
become a bone of con-
tention within Maha-
rashtra.In March, the
Maharashtra legisla-
ture passed a law which
made it mandatory for
all shops and establish-
ments to display their
names in Marathi on
signboards.

RIPE TIMING!
Covid-hit economy out of the red,
UP increases revenue collection
First India Bureau
Lucknow: Even as two-
years of adverse impact
of Covid-19 has started
decreasing on state
economy, the deft han-
dling of finances by the
Yogi Adityanath Gov-
ernment has showed
increase in the revenue.
The Yogi govern-
ment had presented one
of the largest annual
budget of more than six
lakh crore with large
number of developmen-
tal and welfare schemes
in the state.
According to infor-
mation the govern-
ment’s total revenue
collection had reached
`14,139.62 crore in May
2022 which was about
Rs 5865.86 crore more
than the corresponding
month in 2021-22.
The state govern-
ment had collected rev-
enue of `8273.76 crore
in May 2021. Its earn-
ings are, however, 75.3%
of the target of
`18,779.50 set for 2022-
2023.
Even though the fi-
nance department
maintained that the
Covid-19 impact was
still being felt on the
economy its impact has
been minimised to a
large extent.
The state govern-
ment’s highest collec-
tions were made from
GST/VAT with total re-
ceipts of `7659.60 crore,
which is 75.8% of the
target of `10,111.50
crore. This included re-
ceipts from VAT of
`2702.30 crore, 93% of
the target for the month
of `2904.35 crore. The
state government’s re-
ceipts from excise were
`3414.00 crore, 70% of
the target of `4824.05
crore and `1275.09 crore
more than earnings of
`2138.91 crore in the
same month in 2021-
2022.
It had claimed a con-
sistent increase in its
revenue collections re-
alising `1657.61 crore
more revenue in April
2022 vis-à-vis the total
collections in the same
month in 2021.
The state govern-
ment’s total tax and
non-tax collections in
the first month of the
financial year 2022-23
remained `12,854.10
crore against `11,196.49
crore collected in the
same month in 2021-22.
However, there is a
feeling in the official
circle that these figures
indicated that the econ-
omy has recovered from
the impact of Covid-19
to a large extent.
The state govern-
ment, however, still
faces a tough challenge
of mobilising adequate
resources to fund the
expenditure of the
budget of 6.15 lakh
crore size.
BOUNCING BACK
Revenue department maintains that
impact of Covid-19 has been
minimised to a large extent
Ashutosh Gangwal, General Managar Northern Railway, met CM
Yogi on Wednesday to apprise him of development of various
ongoing projects in Lucknow.
MORE EARNINGS THAN THE PREVIOUS YEAR
According to information the state government
collected total revenue of `1,47,843.10 crore in
2021-2022 against `1,22,616.48 crore in 2020-
2021. This was about `25,226.62 crore more than
the earnings made in the previous year.

NaMo: NO EGO,
JUST PURE HUMILITY...
PM - A FRIEND,
PHILOSOPHER
AND GUIDE
eeraj Chopra recollects the
time when he returned from
Olympics after winning the
gold for the country and the
unforgettable meeting the ath-
letes had with PM Modi.
Upon our return from the
Olympics, we were hosted by
PM Modi at his residence. One can always
feel butterflies in the stomach when the
country’s Prime Minister invites you over.
Interaction with PM Modi was not just a
great honour for us, but it was extremely
comforting too. He made every single per-
son present there feel at ease and was an
epitome of cordiality as we interacted with
him. What is so admirable about PM Modi
is the connect he establishes with people at
a personal level. He possessed detailed
knowledge of all the athletes and even re-
membered what each of us said before we
left for the Olympics.
He spoke with us like close friends do and
who probably know everything about us.
This was indeed very remarkable and heart-
warming. Maintaining such a pleasant,
easy-going and a naturally interactive style
is possible only when the person has knowl-
edge, compassion, love for his countrymen
and is a truly great leader. Although he is the
PM, yet it was a friend we came across that
day during our meeting with him.
Indian sports had undergone several
changes for the good after PM Modi took
over. For instance, the initiative of Khelo
India which has proven to be a wonderful
scheme for aspiring, young sports enthusi-
asts to come out and play
. Not just this, every
time athletes leaves the country for a sport-
ing event, they are shown a lot of support,
and are inspired so that they are filled with
motivation and josh to the brim. PM Modi
even inspires the citizens to cheer for us and
support us throughout the event.
Tokyo Olympics were definitely very dif-
ferent and the atmosphere was quite joyous
as our country had bagged the first gold ever
in athletics. But after we got back to our
country, all the athletes were given equal
respect irrespective of whether they had
won the medal or not. PM Modi met every
one regardless of whether they had won
something or not, and this was indeed very
heartening.
N
nupriya Patel narrates an incident about
PM Modi’s humble stance despite being
a world leader. It is a short and heart-
warming anecdote that brings us closer
to the man India loves.
Honourable Prime Minister was on a
visit to his parliamentary constituency
and this incident relates to a village, the name of the
village I, unfortunately, don’t remember. Our PM was
to address a gathering there and an event had been
organised in the village.
Gram Pradhan, who
was a lady and of slight-
ly short stature, was
also present for the
event and she had to de-
liver a speech. The po-
dium and the mic had
been set up on the stage
and when the Pradhan
reached the stage for her
speech, she realised that
the mic was higher than
she could reach. As she
was struggling to speak
into the mic, a memorable incident happened that
touched me to the core. Even today I can visualise our
PM getting up from his seat and moving towards the
stage. Without waiting for anyone else to come for-
ward to help the Pradhan, he went straight up to her
and fixed the mic for her. Once the mic had been ad-
justed, she could easily deliver her speech.
While the incident in itself reads short and simple,
it still had the capacity to leave a lasting impression
on minds of onlookers because one can never erase
memory of a world leader doing a deed of kindness.

n a speech on Civil Services Day, PM
Modi said something that won over the
hearts of the wives of India’s Civil Ser-
vices officers. Gauri Kumar brings to us
an anecdote that made PM Modi the star
of the day!
Creating a work-life balance is definite-
ly one of the biggest challenges faced by people these
days and more so in the civil services. PM Modi, who is
known to be a workaholic and who never tires of work-
ing 24 x 7, in his address
to the civil servants on
April 21, that is Civil Ser-
vices Day, posed an ex-
tremely penetrating
question. He asked
“Whenyougohomefrom
work, do you take time
out to talk to your wives?
Do you ask your partner
and children how they
have been doing?”
That same day, in the
evening, there was the
At Home ceremony to be
held at the Rashtrapati Bhawan and let me tell you, all
the wives of civil servants were literally on cloud nine
at the event. They were elated that their spouses had
been asked by PM Modi to spend time with their wives
and take time out for families. PM Modi had laid spe-
cial emphasis in his speech on the importance of qual-
ity family time. And this indeed was the talk of the
town in the evening that day
. While we all know that
striking a work-life balance is necessary, but when it
comes from PM Modi, it makes all the difference!

Terrorist organiza-

the Subcontinent
(AQIS) has issued
a letter dated
June 6 threaten-
ing to carry out
suicide attacks in
India to avenge the
insulting remarks
about Prophet
Muhammad by the
now-suspended
BJP leaders Nupur
Sharma and now
expelled leader
Naveen Kumar
Jindal.
All states on
high alert after
input from
the Centre
All the states have
been informed by
the intelligence
agencies about
the threat and they
have been asked
to be on high
alert. The detailed
statement by
AQIS—launched
in 2014 as the
newest affiliate of
the al-Qaeda—was
made available by
the SITE Intel-
ligence Group after
the remarks row
gained steam.
‘Prophet, wife
insulted in the
most vile and
evil manner’
Citing Sharma’s
comments on the
Prophet and his
wife, the terror-
ist organization
said that she had
“insulted and
slandered” in the
“most vile and
evil manner on an
Indian channel.”
“In response to
this, the hearts of
Muslim around
the world bleed-
ing and filled with
revenge,” the letter
stated.
Never bow to

Geert Wilders, a
far-right leader
from The Nether-
lands and Dutch
MP called on
Indians to never
“give in to Islamic
terrorists like al
Qaida as they rep-
resent barbarism”.
He also said Nupur
Sharma was telling
the truth when she
made the remarks
and termed the
anger of the
Islamic countries
“ridiculous”.
Thackeray

statement
Maharashtra chief
minister Uddhav
Thackeray on
Wednesday wel-
comed RSS chief
Mohan Bhagwat’s
recent statement
on ‘shivling’ and
hit out at the BJP
for the “humilia-
tion” faced by India
due to the party’s
suspended leader’s
controversial re-
marks on Prophet
Mohammed that
drew ‘unwanted’
attention.
What were
BJP and Indian
government’s
responses?
Notably, the BJP
suspended Sharma
and ousted an-
other party leader
Naveen Kumar Jin-
dal on Sunday for
supporting her and
has conclusively
separated itself
from their view-
points. Meanwhile,
the Indian govern-
ment had stated
that it “respects
all religions” and
dismissed the
remarks as “fringe
elements’ views.”

Pilibhit: BJP MP from
Pilibhit seat of Uttar

has initiated a bid to
carve out a new avatar.
He had left the avatar of

ago and started putting
his own party’s govern-
ment in the dock on
policy issues. He wrote a
very good book about
agricultureandfarming
economy in India and
also supported the farm-
ers’ movement and re-
ceived wide support for
this. But now he has
gone beyond the previ-
ous stand and has
donned a new avatar.
This avatar is somewhat
similar to the Corona
period avatar of film ac-
tor Sonu Sood.
Keep in mind Sonu
Sood had helped thou-
sands of people during
theCoronaperiod.From
sending people to their
homes to arranging for
oxygen cylinders and es-
sential medicines and
providing jobs to the
youth sitting idle, he
played the role of the
messiah. Now, Varun
Gandhi is also playing
a similar role. The dif-
ference is that he has
chosen a specific class
to help i.e. the youth. He
has launched a cam-
paign on social media
that the examinations
for the jobs in the states
should be held on time
and their results should
come out on time. He is
also raising the issue
that the youth should
be given the facility to
reach the examination
centres. Varun is mak-
ing arrangements for
those participants who
do not have the means
or are facing difficulty
in reaching the exami-
nation centers. Young-
sters are openly ex-
pressing their needs to
Varun and he is fulfill-
ing it and giving infor-
mation about it.

the Shiv Sena candi-
date. Keep in mind that
there are two MLAs
from SP i.e. Abu Azmi

support is very impor-

second concern of Shiv
Sena is that if the Mus-
lim MLAs of Congress
and NCP also decide
not to vote, taking in-
spiration from these
two MLAs, then the
party will face a major
problem. Therefore the
question is whether the
NCP and Congress,
while allotting votes to
their MLAs, will allot
the votes of Muslim
MLAs to their candi-
date and the votes they
leave for Shiv Sena will
be of Hindu MLAs?
There is also the ques-
tion as to what will the
two MLAs of Owaisi’s
party do if needed, and
if the political situa-
tion becomes non-con-
dusive, will they sup-
port BJP?

Number of tax payers in country

New Delhi: Union Min-

today said that the num-
ber of tax payers in the
country has substantial-
ly increased in last 8
years and the earlier at-
mosphereof “taxterror”
gradually weaned away
after Prime Minister
Narendra Modi took
over in 2014.
Speakingafterlaunch-
ing ‘

ment over the decades in
New Delhi, the union

gramme was organised

dia’s independence and
“

Singh said that today
the number of people
who are willing to pay
income tax is increasing
and the credit for this
should go to PM Modi
who took several path-
breaking, courageous
and confident decisions
likeintroductionof GST
in recent years.
The Minister opined
that for the overall and

New Delhi: The Cen-
tre rebutted the Envi-
ronmental Perfor-
mance Index (EPI)
2022, which rated In-
dia last out of 180 na-
tions on Wednesday
.
The Union Environ-
mentMinistryclaimed
that some of the meas-
ures it used were “ex-
trapolated” and based
on “unscientific
methods”.
The Yale Center for
Environmental Law
and Policy and Colum-
bia University recent-
ly produced an index
that used 40 perfor-
mance metrics to
evaluate nations’ envi-
ronmental perfor-
mance.
Despite measures
like Sashakt Bharat,
Swachh Bharat-
Swasth Bharat, Satat
B h a r a t - S a n a t a n
Bharat, and many
more, India was rated
last in Environment
Performance Index
(EPI) 2022.
WHAT DID THE
MINISTRY SAY?
WHAT DID ENVIRONMENT PERFORMANCE
INDEX 2022 SAY ON‘INDIA EFFORTS’? While terming some
EPI indicators as “un-
scientific”, the ministry
says ‘projected Green
House Gases (GHG)
emissions levels in
2050’ is the authentic
technique for meas-
uring a country’s
environmental per-
formance. “The new
indicator is computed
based on the aver-
age rate of change in
emission of the last 10
years instead of mod-
eling that takes into
account a longer time
period,” the minister
said. According to the
Ministry, forests and
wetlands are impor-
tant carbon sinks that
have been ignored by
EPI 2022. The study
was rejected because
historical data on the
lowest emission trajec-
tory was disregarded,
it said. The weight of
the metrics in which
India scored well has
been lowered.
As per EPI 2022, India has fallen behind the rest
of the world in terms of environmental perfor-
mance. The country is ranked lowest among
180 nations in the EPI, which is an international
evaluation methodology that examines a coun-
try’s environmental health and sustainability. The
report has given India a score of 18.9, which is
even lower than Pakistan, Bangladesh, Vietnam,
and Myanmar. The report says India’s low EPI
score suggests that the country has to pay more
attention to sustainability and prioritize air and
water quality, biodiversity, and climate change.
It says India also ranks poorly in terms of rule
of law, corruption control, and government per-
formance. In 2020, India was rated 168th with a
score of 27.6, while Denmark was ranked first.
WHAT DOES THE ENVIRONMENT
PERFORMANCE INDEX INDICATE?
In partnership with the Yale Center
for Environmental Law and Policy
and Columbia University, the
World Economic Forum launched
the EPI, a biennial index, in 2002.
EPI uses 40 performance measures across 11
issue areas to rank 180 nations. These indicators
show how efficiently countries could establish en-
vironmental policy targets. Overall, EPI indicates
which country is best in addressing environmental
challenges.

NOW GET ‘JAIL
KI ROTI’ TO
WARD OFF
BAD LUCK AT
PRISON OUTLETS
The term ‘‘Jail ki Roti’ is
normally used to warn a
person about a possible jail stint.
There is also a belief that jail
food - roti in particular - protects
even the future generations of
those who eat them to ward off
bad luck. Several top politicians
and bureaucrats are known to
have asked for ‘jail ki roti’ from
officials to ward off bad luck,
which may even include a stint in
jail. They will not have to look far
now as UP Prison officials have
decided to start food outlets in
major jails from where people
can buy food, including rotis,
prepared by the inmates. DG Jail,
Anand Kumar, said the food
outlets will be opened soon and
jail authorities will be involved in
branding and marketing of
products made by jail inmates.
The income from these outlets
will be recycled and used to
upgrade the facilities and
amenities inside jails. The snacks
will be prepared under strict
quality control, using the best
raw materials.

KIDS DONATE

FUND’
Two children from the district of
Lakhimpur Kheri in a noble
gesture donated their savings to
the Cow Protection Fund which
works for the protection and
promotion of cattle in the Kheri
district. District Magistrate
Mahendra Bahadur Singh has
been constantly appealing to the
people to donate generously to
the Cow Protection Fund and
the effort of the DM seems to
have an effect as the two children
of Kashi Nagar donated all their
savings to the fund. The fund has
till date received Rs. 54,258 and is
being used for the protection of
cows. It’s not only the adults who
have been donating continuously
to the fund but children as well
have been donating for the
cause. Yatharth Ashok, a class 9
student of Ajmani International
School and his elder brother
Aaradhya Ashok, a class 10
student on Wednesday reached
the office of the District
Magistrate at the collectorate
without the knowledge of their
parents to meet DM Mahendra
Bahadur Singh. The children
during the meeting took money
out from their piggy banks (Rs.
1100 in total) to donate to the
“Cow Protection Fund”. In the
brief interaction with the District
Magistrate Mahendra Bahadur
Singh said that they were inspired
hugely by the efforts of the
campaign which is why they

DISSENT IN SP OVER TICKETS
First India Bureau
Lucknow: There is in-
creasing dissent in the
ranks of the Samajwa-
di Party on preference
being given to ‘outsid-
ers’ first for the Rajya
Sabha polls and now
Vidhan Parishad. In
Rajya Sabha, the party
gave two of the three
tickets to ‘outsiders’ -
Kapil Sibal, an inde-
pendent, and Jayant
Chaudhary, from RLD.
In Vidhan Parishad,
Swami Prasad Maurya,
who joined SP just be-
fore elections, has been
nominated for the
Vidhan Parishad. Zas-
mir Ansari, who also
came in from BSP, is
another candidate
named by the SP.
The remaining two
are Shahnawaz Khan
and Mukul Yadav, son
of former MLA Sobha-
ran Yadav who had left
his Karhal seat for
Akhilesh Yadav.
Shahnawaz Khan and
Zasmir Ansari are
known for their prox-
imity to Mohd Azam
Khan.
A section of the par-
ty is upset that veter-
ans like Ram Govind
Chaudhary and Arvind
Singh Gope who recent-
ly lost the assembly
elections, should have
been sent to the upper
house.
“These leaders have
spent all their years in
SP and deserve recog-
nition for their ser-
vices. It now seems that
loyalty in the party has
lost its meaning and it
is only turncoats who
will walk away with the
cream,” said a party
MLA.
Reoti Raman Singh,
one of the senior-most
party leaders and sit-
ting Rajya Sabha MP,
has also been denied a
Rajya Sabha ticket by
Akhilesh Yadav.
Singh said, “My per-
formance as an SP MP
in Rajya Sabha was
commendable and I
earned appreciation
from the Chair too.
I don’t understand
why I was denied the
ticket. This has led to
dissatisfaction among
the party cadres.”
Singh’s representative
and district vice-presi-
dent Vijay Vaish has
already resigned from
the party’s member-
ship along with the
post. He has also left
the membership of Lo-
hia Trust.
Voting will be held
on June 20 between 9
am and 4 pm. Results
will be declared the
same day.

EGI slams TV news channels
First India Bureau
Lucknow: Noting that
the irresponsible con-
duct of some news
channels has made the
national discourse
coarse and the gap be-
tween communities
unbridgeable, the Edi-
tors Guild of India
(EGI) on Wednesday
asked them to pause
and take a critical look
at what they have done
just to increase viewer-
ship and profit during
the Kanpur violence.
It also called for
stricter vigilance by
broadcasters and jour-
nalist bodies, noting
that the recent inci-
dent of violence in
Kanpur that caused un-
necessary embarrass-
ment to the country
could have been avoid-
ed if those news chan-
nels had been mindful
of the nation’s consti-
tutional commitment
to secularism, as well
as journalistic ethics
and guidelines of the
Press Council of India.
Violence had erupted
in parts of Kanpur af-
ter Friday prayers as
members of two com-
munities indulged in
brick-batting and
hurled bombs over at-
tempts to shut shops in
protest against re-
marks against Prophet
Mohammad by BJP
spokesperson Nupur
Sharma during a TV
debate. The EGI is dis-
turbed by the irrespon-
sible conduct of some
national news chan-
nels for deliberately
creating circumstanc-
es that target vulnera-
ble communities by
spewing hatred to-
wards them and their
beliefs, the Editors’
body said in a state-
ment. The incident
that caused unneces-
sary embarrassment to
the country could have
been avoided if some
of the TV outlets had
been mindful of the
journalistic ethics.

On the day of vio-

same day a conspiracy

down law and order by
initiating a ‘fire’. To

appreciated by the re-

Prior to becoming
Kanpur Commissioner,
Meena served as IG of

SBSP DISAPPOINTED WITH SP LIST
BSP supremo’s game
plan to win the trust
of minority voters
Gyanendra Kumar Shukla
Lucknow: The BSP,
which has been deci-
mated in the UP as-
sembly polls, has
high hopes from the
by-elections of
Azamgarh Lok Sabha
seat. Party strate-
gists are of the opin-
ion that the victory
in this election will
give impetus to the
campaign to reclaim
the Muslim vote base,
which has drifted to-
wards the SP.
It is a well-known
fact that in the re-
cently concluded as-
sembly polls, a large
section of Muslim
voters stood in favor
of the SP. But in the
post poll scenario,
due to various rea-
sons, a significant
chunk of these voters
seemed to be disen-
chanted with Akh-
ilesh’s party. It was
from this point that
BSP chief Mayawati
started seeing a ray
of hope for the reviv-
al of her party. Nota-
bly, after the humili-
ating defeat in the UP
assembly elections,
the Dalit-Brahmin al-
liance lost its rele-
vance for BSP supre-
mo Mayawati. Since
then, the BSP appar-
ently started return-
ing to its old formula
of Dalit-Muslim com-
bination.
Earlier, the BSP
chief has given a
clear message to
Muslim voters that
en mass support to
SP proved to be re-
dundant, whereas in
reality only her party
with Dalit-Muslim
consolidation could
be able to arrest the
surge of the BJP.
Mayawati seems to be
fully engaged in her
efforts to bring Mus-
lim voters back from
the SP fold. Last
month, she took a dig
at the BJP govern-
ment, terming Azam
Khan’s continued in-
carceration as stran-
gulation of justice in
an apparent attempt
to woo the Muslim
voters. Not only this,
Munkad Ali was ap-
pointed as the Chief
Coordinator of the
party.
The walkover to
Azam Khan’s camp
by not contesting the
Rampur by-election
is being assessed as
Mayawati’s ploy to
win the sympathy of
the Muslim commu-
nity. Shah Alam alias
Guddu Jamali, who
had contested assem-
bly polls from
Owaisi’s party after
rebelling against the
BSP, was not only re-
turned to the party
but was also declared
BSP candidate from
Azamgarh.

the film will star Akshay Kumar
as the lawyer-activist and Ananya

According to the sources, the young
actress is yet to sign the film, but
reports are rife that she has been
finalized for the role. If the news is
to be believed, it will be the first
time Akshay Kumar and Ananya
Panday will be seen teaming up
for a movie. Although multiple
reports suggest that there will
be no romantic angle between
the protagonists of the film, it
did not deter netizens from
trolling the duo.

anhvi Kapoor is one of the
prettiest actresses in Bollywood
currently. She always makes heads
turn with her fashion game. Well,
the actress is currently in Berlin with
Varun Dhawan and the entire crew to
shoot for their upcoming movie Bawaal.
The stars are having a gala time there
and pictures and videos from their trip
have already started doing the rounds on
social media. Today the actress has yet
again shared a couple of pictures from
Berlin and we bet you would not be able to
take your eyes off them. In the first pic-

slit in the front and spaghetti strap. We can
see a beautiful view behind her.

She has done a dash of fusion by car-

It definitely shaped me as a person and hopefully

YOUR
DAY
Horoscope by
Saurabbh Sachdeva
he girl child is
marginalized,
maligned and
mangled in
familial and
social contro-
versy; India
and the girl child have
and continue to share,
a complicated rela-
tionship. The govern-
ment on its part is try-
ing hard to make peo-
ple understand the
value and worth of the
girl-child, incentiviz-
ing the entire gender
intheprocess,through
programs and
schemes such as Beti
Bachao and Beti Pad-
hao, in a bid to bring
down female infanti-
cide rates and boost
female education per-
centages. However, to
truly alleviate the sta-
tus and stature of the
girl child, it is a robust
education that holds
the key
.
EDUCATION VS
HOME SUPPORT
The perception in a lot
of families, particu-
larly across rural In-
dia seems to be that
families are much bet-
ter served if their
daughters stay at
home and be an active
part of household and
farming activities,
rather than ‘wasting’
time at school. This
perception, this deep-
rooted thinking needs
to undergo a paradigm
shift. And that is only
possible with a persis-
tent orientation that
proves the contrary.
Perhaps through a col-
laborative effort of
public-private part-
nerships, a well-de-
vised, simple yet effec-
tive orientation could
be devised wherein
large-scale workshops
and talks orient fami-
lies about the virtues
and benefits of educa-
tion, especially when
it concerns a girl-
child. That the view
that girls are better
suited to being and
helping at home, is a
touch myopic, and
short-term view;
that properly edu-
cated girls can be-
come an infinitely
more potent
workforce and earning
force than even boys.
WORK VS HOME-MAKING
Further to the above-
mentioned point, the
same orientation must
also site plentiful real-
life examples where
well-educated women
are successfully strad-
dling professional as
well as personal
roles. That it isn’t
necessary for a
girl child to
grow up to be a
homemaker,
that she, if an-
yone, is immi-
nently capable
of being the
breadwinner,
as well as the
h o m e m a ke r.
These roles and
duties that are a re-
sult perhaps of
generations of
p a t r i a r c h y
need to be
dismantled through
relatable examples.
The good thing is,
there is a slow yet
steady rise in many
parts of India, of wom-
en from the hinterland
who have studied and
worked successfully,
who can personally be
approached to be part
of this outreach – serv-
ing as compelling evi-
dence that will help
spark a change in peo-
ples’ thinking.
URBAN MINDSET
CHANGE
We’d also be naïve to
assume that a philo-
sophical shift is need-
ed only in rural India.
I know countless
cases among well-
heeled, educated,
upwardly mobile
urban families
where the boys in
these families
have presented all
the education op-
portunities, good
schools, college
abroad etc, while
the daughters/sis-
ters in these same
families are denied the
same platform!
This always strikes me
as incredibly unfair
and frustrating. What
if the so-called well-
informed in social
practice such absurd
prejudice, then how
can we ever aim to
break the myths that
surround girl child ed-
ucation! Here too, it is
educators and more
enlightened family
members, who need to
come together to make
these families, their
patriarchs, see the oth-
er side. To help them
understand, and subse-
quently realize, that
the time has come to
provide equal opportu-
nity and that we need
to change society to a
meritocracy
.
A quiet revolution is
required to instigate
real change. The fact
remains, a girl child
given the right expo-
sure and opportuni-
ties will likely flour-
ish more than anyone
else; this is what
needs to be used to
shatter the patriarch-
led status quo that is
thwarting not just one
gender but, the ad-
vancement of the hu-
man race, as a result!
As Educators, respon-
sible aware Parents,
Caregivers and
Guardians, it is our
collective obligation
to ensure that we em-
power and free the girl
child. The best way of
ensuring that happens
is by enabling a solid
education so that it ul-
timately leads to fi-
nancial independ-
ence, which in turn,
breaks women free
of the shackles
that enslave them
in varying degrees.

cause they are intend-

lent at pools or beach-
es. They are mainly
manufactured in two
main categories such
as one-piece and two-
pieceswimsuitswhich
are commonly known
as bikinis. These two
main groups are then
further divided into
different styles for eve-
ry body type and fash-
ion sense.
The best part is that
swim brands are com-
ing up with new entic-
ing swimwear drops
throughout the year.
Classic and various
triangle bikinis are fa-
vorites among girls
while heading to the
pool for some proper
laps. A perfect swim-
suit depends on sever-
al factors such as styl-
ing preferences. It de-
termines the type of
suit one wishes to go
for. A one-piece suit,
swim bottoms, a swim
top or any other com-
fortable combination.
They can be worn at
the poolside or on the
beach, etc.
People even prefer
wearing swimsuits
while tanning and de-
velop tan lines ex-
actly like the par-
ticular style of
suit they
choose. It is
very easy to
find swim-
suits with a sporty
and strappy appear-
ance. Apart from
these ruffles and ruch-
ing, a retro, classic
bikini or a chic, mod-
ern swim dress, a flir-
ty, color-block swim-
suit or a muted
flounce swimwear set
is also very popular
among people.
One-piece swim-
suitsgenerallyprovide
full coverage for the
entire midsection and
varying degrees of
coverage for the upper
body and lower body
.
Here are different
one-piece styles:
 Cover-up: This
style is mostly worn
when one is out of the
water. At the beach or
poolside and is made
from loose, flowy fabric
that is breathable and
nonabsorbent. The best
part is that even if worn
in the water, it will dry
quickly.
 Long-sleeve: As the
name says, one-piece
swimsuits with long
sleeves cover arms in
addition to the entire
midsection.
 Monokini: Mono-
kini swimsuits are a
spectacular hybrid of
one-piece swimsuits
and bikinis. The top
and bottom sections
connect beautifully
leaving most of the
midsection bare.
 One-shoulder: These
one-shoulder swimsuits
connect over a single
shoulder rather than
behind the neck.
 Strapless: The
attractive strapless one-
piece covers the torso
and rises to just below
the collar bone. It omits
any straps or sleeves
that would otherwise go
over the shoulders.
 Swim dress: Swim
dresses are nothing but
swimsuits designed
specifically to appear
and feel like dresses
made with nonabsorb-
ent, moisture-wicking
materials.
 V-neck: V-neck
swimsuits vary in terms
of how deeply the neck-
line plunges. It has both
lower necklines as well
as higher necklines.
 Wetsuit: Wetsuits
are great for a sum-
ming session in winters
because it fits closely
and acts like a second
skin that helps retain
warmth. These suits
mostly have long
sleeves that cover a per-
son’s entire legs. Some
also have short sleeves
and shorts or high-cut
bottoms.
Swimsuit tops come
in different catego-
ries offering differ-
ent coverage for the
upper body. A biki-
ni top is the most
popular among
them but not all
swimsuit tops are
bikinis. Here are
several categories
of swimsuit tops:
 Bandeau top: A ban-
deau bikini top is a solid
fit and strapless attire. It
is similar to a crop top.
 Cutout: A cutout bi-
kini top stretches across
the chest with a cutout
section somewhere in
the middle.
 Halter top: The very
popular halter bikini
top has ties that extend
from the front of the
chest around the back
of the neck.
 Longline: Longline
bikini tops extend
farther down the torso
than other bikini tops,
It has a middle ground
between one-piece and
two-piece swimsuits.
 Tankini: It extends
down to the swim
bottoms giving great
coverage.
 Triangle top: As the
name suggests, it com-
prises two triangular
pieces of fabric for the
chest attached to the
string ties.
Swimsuit Bottoms
are also in vogue.

RIPE TIMING! Covid-hit economy out of the red, UP increases revenue collection First India Bureau Lucknow: Even as two- years of adverse impact of Covid-19 has started decreasing on state economy, the deft han- dling of finances by the Yogi Adityanath Gov- ernment has showed increase in the revenue. The Yogi govern- ment had presented one of the largest annual budget of more than six lakh crore with large number of developmen- tal and welfare schemes in the state. According to infor- mation the govern- ment’s total revenue collection had reached `14,139.62 crore in May 2022 which was about Rs 5865.86 crore more than the corresponding month in 2021-22. The state govern- ment had collected rev- enue of `8273.76 crore in May 2021. Its earn- ings are, however, 75.3% of the target of `18,779.50 set for 2022- 2023. Even though the fi- nance department maintained that the Covid-19 impact was still being felt on the economy its impact has been minimised to a large extent. The state govern- ment’s highest collec- tions were made from GST/VAT with total re- ceipts of `7659.60 crore, which is 75.8% of the target of `10,111.50 crore. However, there is a feeling in the official circle that these figures indicated that the econ- omy has recovered from the impact of Covid-19 to a large extent. The state govern- ment, however, still faces a tough challenge of mobilising adequate resources to fund the expenditure of the budget of 6.15 lakh crore size. PM - A FRIEND, PHILOSOPHER AND GUIDE eeraj Chopra recollects the time when he returned from Olympics after winning the gold for the country and the unforgettable meeting the ath- letes had with PM Modi. Upon our return from the Olympics, we were hosted by PM Modi at his residence. One can always feel butterflies in the stomach when the country’s Prime Minister invites you over. Interaction with PM Modi was not just a great honour for us, but it was extremely comforting too. He made every single per- son present there feel at ease and was an epitome of cordiality as we interacted with him. What is so admirable about PM Modi is the connect he establishes with people at a personal level. He possessed detailed knowledge of all the athletes and even re- membered what each of us said before we left for the Olympics. He spoke with us like close friends do and who probably know everything about us. This was indeed very remarkable and heart- warming. Maintaining such a pleasant, easy-going and a naturally interactive style is possible only when the person has knowl- edge, compassion, love for his countrymen and is a truly great leader. Although he is the PM, yet it was a friend we came across that day during our meeting with him. Indian sports had undergone several changes for the good after PM Modi took over. For instance, the initiative of Khelo India which has proven to be a wonderful scheme for aspiring, young sports enthusi- asts to come out and play . Not just this, every time athletes leaves the country for a sport- ing event, they are shown a lot of support, and are inspired so that they are filled with motivation and josh to the brim. PM Modi even inspires the citizens to cheer for us and support us throughout the event. Tokyo Olympics were definitely very dif- ferent and the atmosphere was quite joyous as our country had bagged the first gold ever in athletics. But after we got back to our country, all the athletes were given equal respect irrespective of whether they had won the medal or not. PM Modi met every one regardless of whether they had won something or not, and this was indeed very heartening. N nupriya Patel narrates an incident about PM Modi’s humble stance despite being a world leader. It is a short and heart- warming anecdote that brings us closer to the man India loves. Honourable Prime Minister was on a visit to his parliamentary constituency and this incident relates to a village, the name of the village I, unfortunately, don’t remember. Our PM was to address a gathering there and an event had been organised in the village. Gram Pradhan, who was a lady and of slight- ly short stature, was also present for the event and she had to de- liver a speech. The po- dium and the mic had been set up on the stage and when the Pradhan reached the stage for her speech, she realised that the mic was higher than she could reach. As she was struggling to speak into the mic, a memorable incident happened that touched me to the core. Even today I can visualise our PM getting up from his seat and moving towards the stage. PM Modi, who is known to be a workaholic and who never tires of work- ing 24 x 7, in his address to the civil servants on April 21, that is Civil Ser- vices Day, posed an ex- tremely penetrating question. He asked “Whenyougohomefrom work, do you take time out to talk to your wives? Do you ask your partner and children how they have been doing?” That same day, in the evening, there was the At Home ceremony to be held at the Rashtrapati Bhawan and let me tell you, all the wives of civil servants were literally on cloud nine at the event. They were elated that their spouses had been asked by PM Modi to spend time with their wives and take time out for families. PM Modi had laid spe- cial emphasis in his speech on the importance of qual- ity family time. And this indeed was the talk of the town in the evening that day . All states on high alert after input from the Centre All the states have been informed by the intelligence agencies about the threat and they have been asked to be on high alert. The detailed statement by AQIS—launched in 2014 as the newest affiliate of the al-Qaeda—was made available by the SITE Intel- ligence Group after the remarks row gained steam. ‘Prophet, wife insulted in the most vile and evil manner’ Citing Sharma’s comments on the Prophet and his wife, the terror- ist organization said that she had “insulted and slandered” in the “most vile and evil manner on an Indian channel.” “In response to this, the hearts of Muslim around the world bleed- ing and filled with revenge,” the letter stated. Never bow to terrorists: Dutch MP urges Indians Geert Wilders, a far-right leader from The Nether- lands and Dutch MP called on Indians to never “give in to Islamic terrorists like al Qaida as they rep- resent barbarism”. He wrote a very good book about agricultureandfarming economy in India and also supported the farm- ers’ movement and re- ceived wide support for this. Now, Varun Gandhi is also playing a similar role. The dif- ference is that he has chosen a specific class to help i.e. the youth. He has launched a cam- paign on social media that the examinations for the jobs in the states should be held on time and their results should come out on time. He is also raising the issue that the youth should be given the facility to reach the examination centres. On one hand there is action of central agencies, due to which the leaders of small parties are wor- ried and on the other hand the Muslim MLAs of allies are worried. When Shiv Sena left NDA and formed Maha Vikas Aghadi, many parties like NCP, Con- gress, SP supported it. But this is compulsive support. Muslim lead- ers of these parties can- not support Shiv Sena from the heart because Shiv Sena leaders still openly claim that they demolished the Babri Masjid structure. Al- though for them, it seems that supporting Shiv Sena is a just move to prevent BJP from forming the govern- ment, but they are find- ing it difficult to vote for the Shiv Sena candi- date. It is reported that both the MLAs of the Samajwadi Party have opted to remain absent instead of voting for the Shiv Sena candi- date. Keep in mind that there are two MLAs from SP i.e. Abu Azmi and Rais Sheikh. Their support is very impor- tant for Shiv Sena. The second concern of Shiv Sena is that if the Mus- lim MLAs of Congress and NCP also decide not to vote, taking in- spiration from these two MLAs, then the party will face a major problem. Therefore the question is whether the NCP and Congress, while allotting votes to their MLAs, will allot the votes of Muslim MLAs to their candi- date and the votes they leave for Shiv Sena will be of Hindu MLAs? There is also the ques- tion as to what will the two MLAs of Owaisi’s party do if needed, and if the political situa- tion becomes non-con- dusive, will they sup- port BJP? In a tweet, Gandhi referred to earlier statements by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Informa- tion and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur and Lok Sabha member Sadhvi Prag- ya. At the party’s official briefing, spokesperson Pawan Khera also re- ferred to Prime Minis- ter Narendra Modi’s past statements about shamsaan-kabristan (cremation ground ver- sus burial grounds) and identifying people by their clothes. He questioned Modi’s si- lence over the current controversy. The Congress also questioned why Indian embassies were shar- ing BJP’s press release about the party respect- ing all religions after comments by now sacked BJP spokesper- sons Nupur Sharma and Naveen Kumar Jin- dal triggered a diplo- matic row and prompt- ed the Ministry of Ex- ternal Affairs to dis- miss them as “fringe elements“. “’Fringe’ is BJP’s core,” Gandhi tweeted while sharing head- lines of news reports on statements by Shah, Adityanath, Thakur and Pragya. Speakingafterlaunch- ing ‘ Aarohan’, a Coffee Table Book on the pro- gressive contribution of the Income Tax Depart- ment over the decades in New Delhi, the union minister said that under the leadership of Prime MinisterNarendraModi, economic behaviour of thepeopleof thecountry has changed. The pro- gramme was organised to mark 75th year of In- dia’s independence and “ Amrit Mahotsav”. Singh said that today the number of people who are willing to pay income tax is increasing and the credit for this should go to PM Modi who took several path- breaking, courageous and confident decisions likeintroductionof GST in recent years. The Minister opined that for the overall and inclusive growth of the country ,itseconomyhas to develop rather than regulating it. He said that before 2014, the country , for a long time, witnessed a nightmare of struggle in making decisions for the people of the country but all that has changed today . Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh speaking at the World Ocean Day function organised by the Ministry of Earth Sciences at Prithvi Bhawan in New Delhi on Wednesday. New Delhi: The Cen- tre rebutted the Envi- ronmental Perfor- mance Index (EPI) 2022, which rated In- dia last out of 180 na- tions on Wednesday . The Union Environ- mentMinistryclaimed that some of the meas- ures it used were “ex- trapolated” and based on “unscientific methods”. The Yale Center for Environmental Law and Policy and Colum- bia University recent- ly produced an index that used 40 perfor- mance metrics to evaluate nations’ envi- ronmental perfor- mance. Despite measures like Sashakt Bharat, Swachh Bharat- Swasth Bharat, Satat B h a r a t - S a n a t a n Bharat, and many more, India was rated last in Environment Performance Index (EPI) 2022. WHAT DID THE MINISTRY SAY? WHAT DID ENVIRONMENT PERFORMANCE INDEX 2022 SAY ON‘INDIA EFFORTS’? While terming some EPI indicators as “un- scientific”, the ministry says ‘projected Green House Gases (GHG) emissions levels in 2050’ is the authentic technique for meas- uring a country’s environmental per- formance. “The new indicator is computed based on the aver- age rate of change in emission of the last 10 years instead of mod- eling that takes into account a longer time period,” the minister said. According to the Ministry, forests and wetlands are impor- tant carbon sinks that have been ignored by EPI 2022. The study was rejected because historical data on the lowest emission trajec- tory was disregarded, it said. The weight of the metrics in which India scored well has been lowered. As per EPI 2022, India has fallen behind the rest of the world in terms of environmental perfor- mance. The country is ranked lowest among 180 nations in the EPI, which is an international evaluation methodology that examines a coun- try’s environmental health and sustainability. The report has given India a score of 18.9, which is even lower than Pakistan, Bangladesh, Vietnam, and Myanmar. The report says India’s low EPI score suggests that the country has to pay more attention to sustainability and prioritize air and water quality, biodiversity, and climate change. It says India also ranks poorly in terms of rule of law, corruption control, and government per- formance. In 2020, India was rated 168th with a score of 27.6, while Denmark was ranked first. WHAT DOES THE ENVIRONMENT PERFORMANCE INDEX INDICATE? In partnership with the Yale Center for Environmental Law and Policy and Columbia University, the World Economic Forum launched the EPI, a biennial index, in 2002. EPI uses 40 performance measures across 11 issue areas to rank 180 nations. These indicators show how efficiently countries could establish en- vironmental policy targets. Overall, EPI indicates which country is best in addressing environmental challenges. Returning back to their village, they again had an argument which escalated further and in a fit of rage, Dinesh struck Avinash on his head with an iron ob- ject, injuring him seri- ously, he said. In Rajya Sabha, the party gave two of the three tickets to ‘outsiders’ - Kapil Sibal, an inde- pendent, and Jayant Chaudhary, from RLD. In Vidhan Parishad, Swami Prasad Maurya, who joined SP just be- fore elections, has been nominated for the Vidhan Parishad. Zas- mir Ansari, who also came in from BSP, is another candidate named by the SP. The remaining two are Shahnawaz Khan and Mukul Yadav, son of former MLA Sobha- ran Yadav who had left his Karhal seat for Akhilesh Yadav. Shahnawaz Khan and Zasmir Ansari are known for their prox- imity to Mohd Azam Khan. A section of the par- ty is upset that veter- ans like Ram Govind Chaudhary and Arvind Singh Gope who recent- ly lost the assembly elections, should have been sent to the upper house. “These leaders have spent all their years in SP and deserve recog- nition for their ser- vices. It now seems that loyalty in the party has lost its meaning and it is only turncoats who will walk away with the cream,” said a party MLA. Reoti Raman Singh, one of the senior-most party leaders and sit- ting Rajya Sabha MP, has also been denied a Rajya Sabha ticket by Akhilesh Yadav. Singh said, “My per- formance as an SP MP in Rajya Sabha was commendable and I earned appreciation from the Chair too. I don’t understand why I was denied the ticket. This has led to dissatisfaction among the party cadres.” Singh’s representative and district vice-presi- dent Vijay Vaish has already resigned from the party’s member- ship along with the post. He has also left the membership of Lo- hia Trust. Voting will be held on June 20 between 9 am and 4 pm. Results will be declared the same day. It also called for stricter vigilance by broadcasters and jour- nalist bodies, noting that the recent inci- dent of violence in Kanpur that caused un- necessary embarrass- ment to the country could have been avoid- ed if those news chan- nels had been mindful of the nation’s consti- tutional commitment to secularism, as well as journalistic ethics and guidelines of the Press Council of India. Violence had erupted in parts of Kanpur af- ter Friday prayers as members of two com- munities indulged in brick-batting and hurled bombs over at- tempts to shut shops in protest against re- marks against Prophet Mohammad by BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma during a TV debate. The EGI is dis- turbed by the irrespon- sible conduct of some national news chan- nels for deliberately creating circumstanc- es that target vulnera- ble communities by spewing hatred to- wards them and their beliefs, the Editors’ body said in a state- ment. The incident that caused unneces- sary embarrassment to the country could have been avoided if some of the TV outlets had been mindful of the journalistic ethics. Rajendra Chhabra Jaipur: Rajasthan’s ‘son of the soil’ has been making a name not just for him but also for the state on national stage. One such ‘son’ current- ly in discussion in pow- er circles of the state is Uttar Pradesh cadre IPS officer Vijay Singh Mee- na who is currently serving as Kanpur Po- lice Commissioner. This 1996 batch IPS is a na- tive of Jaipur. The Kanpur violence, which recently shocked the entire nation, has been curtailed and con- trolled by swift and de- cisive action of Vijay Singh Meena and as a result he is being ap- plauded and appreciat- ed across the nation. Born in Karvada village near Shri Mahaveerji, Mee- na has done his schooling in Ra- jasthan after his he graduated from IIT Del- hi with a B.Tech degree. Afterthisstinthejoined the IPS, following his father’s footsteps who is a retired govt officer. Meena took over as Kanpur Police Commis- sioner nearly five months back, but even in this small t i m e frame, he has suc- cessfully brought the law and order of this sensitive city under his complete command, so much so that he con- trolled the rioting easily and gave an example of his capabilities. On the day of vio- lence, two top VVIP leaders of the nation – the President and the Prime Minister - were in Kanpur and on the same day a conspiracy was hatched to bring down law and order by initiating a ‘fire’. To control the situation was a gargantuan chal- lenge and Meena held the bull by the horns and came out victori- ous. The UP govern- ment is lauding Kanpur Police Commissioner’s effort to unearth the conspiracy and identifi- cation of arsonists, also appreciated by the re- gional media. Prior to becoming Kanpur Commissioner, Meena served as IG of Varanasi and in Janu- ary 2021 was promoted as ADG. Prior to elec- tion, Kanpur’s first po- lice commissioner Aseem Arun had taken VRS and then the UP government sent a three name panel to Election Commission- er wherein Vijay Singh Meena was selected and on January 13, 2022, he was appointed as Kanpur Police Com- missioner. Meena’s wife passed away in Sept 2021 and the funeral was held in Jaipur. His elder daugh- ter is studying in Delhi. He lives in Kanpur which his younger daughter studying in Class 12 and son in Class 8. His batchmate IAS officers are cur- rently holding impor- tant positions in Ra- jasthan govt. RAJ’S ‘SON OF THE SOIL’ PROVES HIS SALT IN KANPUR! Police flag march in Kanpur last Friday SBSP DISAPPOINTED WITH SP LIST BSP supremo’s game plan to win the trust of minority voters Gyanendra Kumar Shukla Lucknow: The BSP, which has been deci- mated in the UP as- sembly polls, has high hopes from the by-elections of Azamgarh Lok Sabha seat. Party strate- gists are of the opin- ion that the victory in this election will give impetus to the campaign to reclaim the Muslim vote base, which has drifted to- wards the SP. It is a well-known fact that in the re- cently concluded as- sembly polls, a large section of Muslim voters stood in favor of the SP. But in the post poll scenario, due to various rea- sons, a significant chunk of these voters seemed to be disen- chanted with Akh- ilesh’s party. It was from this point that BSP chief Mayawati started seeing a ray of hope for the reviv- al of her party. Nota- bly, after the humili- ating defeat in the UP assembly elections, the Dalit-Brahmin al- liance lost its rele- vance for BSP supre- mo Mayawati. Since then, the BSP appar- ently started return- ing to its old formula of Dalit-Muslim com- bination. Earlier, the BSP chief has given a clear message to Muslim voters that en mass support to SP proved to be re- dundant, whereas in reality only her party with Dalit-Muslim consolidation could be able to arrest the surge of the BJP. Mayawati seems to be fully engaged in her efforts to bring Mus- lim voters back from the SP fold. Last month, she took a dig at the BJP govern- ment, terming Azam Khan’s continued in- carceration as stran- gulation of justice in an apparent attempt to woo the Muslim voters. Not only this, Munkad Ali was ap- pointed as the Chief Coordinator of the party. The walkover to Azam Khan’s camp by not contesting the Rampur by-election is being assessed as Mayawati’s ploy to win the sympathy of the Muslim commu- nity. Shah Alam alias Guddu Jamali, who had contested assem- bly polls from Owaisi’s party after rebelling against the BSP, was not only re- turned to the party but was also declared BSP candidate from Azamgarh. YOUR DAY Horoscope by Saurabbh Sachdeva he girl child is marginalized, maligned and mangled in familial and social contro- versy; India and the girl child have and continue to share, a complicated rela- tionship. The govern- ment on its part is try- ing hard to make peo- ple understand the value and worth of the girl-child, incentiviz- ing the entire gender intheprocess, through programs and schemes such as Beti Bachao and Beti Pad- hao, in a bid to bring down female infanti- cide rates and boost female education per- centages. However, to truly alleviate the sta- tus and stature of the girl child, it is a robust education that holds the key . EDUCATION VS HOME SUPPORT The perception in a lot of families, particu- larly across rural In- dia seems to be that families are much bet- ter served if their daughters stay at home and be an active part of household and farming activities, rather than ‘wasting’ time at school. This perception, this deep- rooted thinking needs to undergo a paradigm shift. And that is only possible with a persis- tent orientation that proves the contrary. Perhaps through a col- laborative effort of public-private part- nerships, a well-de- vised, simple yet effec- tive orientation could be devised wherein large-scale workshops and talks orient fami- lies about the virtues and benefits of educa- tion, especially when it concerns a girl- child. That the view that girls are better suited to being and helping at home, is a touch myopic, and short-term view; that properly edu- cated girls can be- come an infinitely more potent workforce and earning force than even boys.   WORK VS HOME-MAKING Further to the above- mentioned point, the same orientation must also site plentiful real- life examples where well-educated women are successfully strad- dling professional as well as personal roles. That it isn’t necessary for a girl child to grow up to be a homemaker, that she, if an- yone, is immi- nently capable of being the breadwinner, as well as the h o m e m a ke r. These roles and duties that are a re- sult perhaps of generations of p a t r i a r c h y need to be dismantled through relatable examples. The good thing is, there is a slow yet steady rise in many parts of India, of wom- en from the hinterland who have studied and worked successfully, who can personally be approached to be part of this outreach – serv- ing as compelling evi- dence that will help spark a change in peo- ples’ thinking. URBAN MINDSET CHANGE We’d also be naïve to assume that a philo- sophical shift is need- ed only in rural India. I know countless cases among well- heeled, educated, upwardly mobile urban families where the boys in these families have presented all the education op- portunities, good schools, college abroad etc, while the daughters/sis- ters in these same families are denied the same platform! This always strikes me as incredibly unfair and frustrating. What if the so-called well- informed in social practice such absurd prejudice, then how can we ever aim to break the myths that surround girl child ed- ucation! Here too, it is educators and more enlightened family members, who need to come together to make these families, their patriarchs, see the oth- er side. To help them understand, and subse- quently realize, that the time has come to provide equal opportu- nity and that we need to change society to a meritocracy . A quiet revolution is required to instigate real change. The fact remains, a girl child given the right expo- sure and opportuni- ties will likely flour- ish more than anyone else; this is what needs to be used to shatter the patriarch- led status quo that is thwarting not just one gender but, the ad- vancement of the hu- man race, as a result! As Educators, respon- sible aware Parents, Caregivers and Guardians, it is our collective obligation to ensure that we em- power and free the girl child. The best way of ensuring that happens is by enabling a solid education so that it ul- timately leads to fi- nancial independ- ence, which in turn, breaks women free of the shackles that enslave them in varying degrees. The best part is that swim brands are com- ing up with new entic- ing swimwear drops throughout the year. Classic and various triangle bikinis are fa- vorites among girls while heading to the pool for some proper laps. A perfect swim- suit depends on sever- al factors such as styl- ing preferences. At the beach or poolside and is made from loose, flowy fabric that is breathable and nonabsorbent. The best part is that even if worn in the water, it will dry quickly.  Long-sleeve: As the name says, one-piece swimsuits with long sleeves cover arms in addition to the entire midsection.  Monokini: Mono- kini swimsuits are a spectacular hybrid of one-piece swimsuits and bikinis. The top and bottom sections connect beautifully leaving most of the midsection bare.  One-shoulder: These one-shoulder swimsuits connect over a single shoulder rather than behind the neck.  Strapless: The attractive strapless one- piece covers the torso and rises to just below the collar bone. It omits any straps or sleeves that would otherwise go over the shoulders.  Swim dress: Swim dresses are nothing but swimsuits designed specifically to appear and feel like dresses made with nonabsorb- ent, moisture-wicking materials.  V-neck: V-neck swimsuits vary in terms of how deeply the neck- line plunges. It has both lower necklines as well as higher necklines.  Wetsuit: Wetsuits are great for a sum- ming session in winters because it fits closely and acts like a second skin that helps retain warmth. These suits mostly have long sleeves that cover a per- son’s entire legs. Some also have short sleeves and shorts or high-cut bottoms. Swimsuit tops come in different catego- ries offering differ- ent coverage for the upper body. A biki- ni top is the most popular among them but not all swimsuit tops are bikinis. Here are several categories of swimsuit tops:  Bandeau top: A ban- deau bikini top is a solid fit and strapless attire. It is similar to a crop top.  Cutout: A cutout bi- kini top stretches across the chest with a cutout section somewhere in the middle.  Halter top: The very popular halter bikini top has ties that extend from the front of the chest around the back of the neck.  Longline: Longline bikini tops extend farther down the torso than other bikini tops, It has a middle ground between one-piece and two-piece swimsuits.  Tankini: It extends down to the swim bottoms giving great coverage.  Triangle top: As the name suggests, it com- prises two triangular pieces of fabric for the chest attached to the string ties. Swimsuit Bottoms are also in vogue.
