Bagga’s arrest on Fri-
day morning from his
home in Delhi by cops
from neighbouring Pun-
jab set off a dramatic
showdowninvolvingtwo
parties and police forces
across three states.
In a cat-and-mouse
game that lasted hours,
Bagga was taken away
by the Punjab police at
5 am. He was arrested
for “provocative state-
ments, promoting reli-
gious enmity and crimi-
nal intimidation” over
his tweets against
Aam Aadmi Party

BAGGA BEFORE
DWARKA JUDGE
Hours after Haryana
Police “abruptly and
illegally restrained”
the Punjab Police
from taking BJP leader
Tajinder Pal Bagga to
Mohali after arresting
him from the national
capital, the Punjab and
Haryana High Court
directed the states of
Haryana and Delhi to
file their written state-
ment. They have been
asked to elaborate on
the status of the police
officials alleged to be
detained.
In its detailed order grant-
ing bail to Independent
MP Navneet Rana and
her husband MLA Ravi
Rana, a special court said
that while they “crossed
the lines of freedom of
speech and expression”
in their “blameworthy”
statements against Ma-
harashtra Chief Minister
Uddhav Thackeray, mere
expression of derogatory
or objectionable words is
not a sufficient ground to
invoke sedition under pro-
visions of Section 124 A
of the Indian Penal Code.
The Supreme Court on
Friday expressed dis-
pleasure over the delay in
hearing the bail applica-
tion of Samajwadi Party
leader Azam Khan in a
land grabbing case, say-
ing “this is a travesty of
justice”. Justices LN Rao
and BR Gavai noted that
Mr Khan has got bail in
86 out of 87 cases, and
said it would hear the
matter on May 11. “He
has been out on bail in all
matters except one for so
long, this is a travesty of
justice,” the bench said.
Delhi Police brought
Tajinder Bagga for
medical at Deen Dayal
Upadhyay Hospital. Af-
ter the medical, close
to midnight, cops were
on their way to Dwarka
Court’s Judge’s resi-
dence in Gurugram to
present Bagga till the
last reports came in.
As per law, it is man-
datory for the accused
to be presented in the
court within 24 hours
of the arrest. It is likely
that Bagga will be sent
to remand.
Procedure wasn’t followed. It’s a politi-
cal issue as during polls Bagga had de-
livered speeches. Speeches normally in-
clude blame against each other. If something
happens, EC takes cognisance and then police

INDIAN MEDIA’S FALL IN PRESS FREEDOM INDEX 2022
GEHLOT FIRES AT CENTRE
OVER PRESSURE ON MEDIA!
First India Bureau
Jaipur: Chief Minister
Ashok Gehlot on Friday
expressed concern
about press freedom
and said that India’s
ranking fell in the Press
Freedom Index 2022.
“India’s ranking has
fallen to 150th position
out of 180 countries. It
is a symbol of the plight
of Indian media. Since
the coming of the Modi
government in 2014,
there has been such a
vicious cycle of media
repression that the me-
dia is completely run-
ning at the behest of the
central government,
BJP and RSS,” Gehlot
said.
The Chief Minister
further aded, “There is
so much fear in the me-
dia that instead of
showing the truth with
fairness and logic, such
coverage is done so that
no one is displeased.
Today there is an out-
cry among the public
due to inflation and un-
employment, but there
is no discussion in the
media on this. The de-
bate of polarization
goes on only in the
name of religion. The
media should support
the people without com-
ing under pressure
from the central gov-
ernment. When the me-
dia will talk about the
interest of the common
man, then the public
will also support the
media and the central
government will not
have the courage to
curb the media as it has
been imposed now.”

Jaipur: The active Co-

rose to 550 with 85 new
cases on Friday. State
capital Jaipur remains
the biggest hotspot with
63 new cases and active
405 cases. This is the
fourth time when more
than 50 cases of corona
have been found in
Jaipur. Maximum 11
out of 63 patients found
in Vaishali Nagar area.
In the last one week,
73 percent of the total
patients getting in the
state have been found
only in Jaipur. At the
same time, the second
number is that of Dhol-

As per the order,

Jaipur: In an impor-
tant decision, the UDH
department has decid-
ed to keep the width of
the road near Jaipur
Dairy at 6 metres only
instead of 9 metres.
The UDH conveyed the
decision to the JDA in
a letter on Friday
.
In 2005, the width
of the road was kept
at 9 metres on the de-
mand of the Dairy.
Dairy officials argued
that a large number
of milk vehicles exit
through the road eve-
ry day. Hence, the
width of the road
should be 9 metres.
On the other hand,
the Rajasthan Judicial
Service Officers’ As-
sociation, which is al-
lotted a plot here, had
to say that increasing
the width of the road
resulted in reduction
of the area allotted to
it. Hence, it should be
kept at 6 metres only
.
The JDA had
sought guidance from
the government in
this regard.

‘MODI HAI TO MUMKIN HAI…’
UNTOLD STORIES OF PM MODI - PART 1
WHY PM MODI CHOSE TO WAIT IN THE
PARLIAMENT LOBBY FOR 20 MINUTES?
ere’s an account of the first
hand experiences of PM
Modi’s humility and commit-
ment towards parliamentary
procedures as narrated by
Cabinet Minister Arjun Ram
Meghwal. The Minister es-
corted PM Modi from Lok
Sabha to Rajya Sabha cham-
bers on the day of election of
Deputy Chairman of Rajya
Sabha. As part of Parliamen-
tary procedure, the PM was
not supposed to sit in Rajya
Sabha while the election pro-
ceedings were on. Yet being
the Prime Minister he could
have done that as an excep-
tion. But PM Modi still chose
to abide by the protocol and
preferred to wait in the lobby
for about half an hour.
There was a flurry of activ-
ity in the Parliament on the
day as the election for Deputy
Chairman was being held in
Rajya Sabha. Harivanshji had
been nominated by Janata Dal
(United) for the post although
he had been member of Rajya
Sabha for only a short time.
Now, according to Parlia-
mentary procedures, if the
Prime Minister is a member
of Rajya Sabha, he/she sits in
the House from the very be-
ginning of the proceedings,
and if the PM is member of
Lok Sabha instead, then he or
she joins the House after the
election proceedings are over
and is the first to speak a few
words about the newly elect-
ed Deputy Chairman.
It was around 3 pm on 9 Au-
gust, 2018 and I was fortunate
to have been given the duty of
escorting the PM from Lok
Sabha to the Upper House. As
I reached, PM Modi asked me
if the election proceedings
were over. I replied, “Sir, it will
take 5-10 minutes more”. The
PM then asked me to keep
trackof theproceedingsonTV
and to inform him as soon as
they were over. I entered the
PM’s chamber after a few min-
utesandinformedhimthatthe
proceedings would be over by
thetimewereachRajyaSabha.
My walk down to the Upper
House accompanying the PM
began and just as we were
about to cross the lobby, we
got the information that the
proceedings were still in pro-
gress. That’s when PM Modi
decided to halt in the lobby
and sat down on a chair, wait-
ing patiently for the right
time to go in. Immediately the
Marshal came and said “Sir,
you are the PM. You can go in.
You are allowed.”
PM Modi, hearing this,
posed a short and simple ques-
tion,“What’stheprotocol?”He
furthersaid,“IamaLokSabha
member.ALokSabhamember
can attend election proceed-
ings in Rajya Sabha but not as
Prime Minister.” The Marshal
then checked the Rule Book
and said “
As a member of Lok
Sabha,thePMdoesn’thavethe
righttositduringRajyaSabha
proceedingsbuthemayattend
if the Chair makes an excep-
tion for him.”
“Why should I make an ex-
ception for myself ? I don’t
wish to break any rules,” and
our Prime Minister contin-
ued to sit where he was.
This exchange that Naren-
dra Modi had with the Mar-
shal had a great impact on
me. For about 20 minutes, he
and I talked about diverse
topics while people kept barg-
ing in asking him to come and
sit in Rajya Sabha. But no one
could budge Modiji from his
resolve. He equated his situa-
tion with someone waiting at
the crossing for the red light
to turn green and said he
would stay where he was
while the light was still red.
Those 20 minutes taught
valuable lessons to all those
whocameintouchwiththePM
while he waited on the humble
chair outside the Rajya Sabha
with stoic and hermit-like pa-
tience. In the meanwhile, Hari-
vansh Singhji was elected Dep-
uty Chairman and everyone
congratulated him. The corri-
dors were abuzz with talks of
Narendra Modi’s forbearance
andallegiancetohisdutiesand
to parliamentary procedures.
This incident will remain
etched in the memories of all
those fortunate to be part of
the edifying experience in-
stilling in them the impor-
tance of adhering to Parlia-
mentary traditions and rules,
irrespective of one’s position.

NAMO
MAN OF THE MOMENT
ssociated with the Sangh family of Guja-
rat, Alkaben Bakshi found a saviour in
PM Modi who was then serving as a
Sangh Pracharak, when she lost her hus-
band in 1982. Alkaben brings to us her
story about the gentle and compassionate
side of Narendra Modi that illumines the
fact that the daughters of the Sangh family always
have his back in adversity
.
“When I lost my husband in 1982 in a gruesome
accident, I was devastated. At the time I was living
at Maninagar in Ahmedabad while my parents were
in Vadodra. The Sangh office was located in Dhor
Bazaar and Narendra Bhai used to reside in the of-
fice premises. As soon as he received the news about
the accident, he rushed to Maninagar to console me
and my family in the hour of grief. Narendra Bhai
immediately took charge of the ornaments and cash
in the house, and my husband’s bike and had them
placed safely in the Sangh office. All these belong-
ings were handed over to me by Narendra Bhai after
about ten days when the last rites had been per-
formed. The words of compassion and wisdom he
spoke to me at that time still ring in my ears. He
asked me to keep all the ornaments safely to secure
my daughter’s future.
Even now when I am in luck and get to meet Modi-
ji, he inquires about my well-being and blesses me.
When I was in dire straits and was running pillar to
posttohavethemedicalandaccidentclaimprocessed,
he sent in a request to Harish Patelji, who was a sen-
ior lawyer at Gujarat High Court at the time. My case
was handled by Harishji and after his death, by his
son and after the judgement was pronounced, they
did not charge me a single penny for fighting my case.
It is an assurance that I can render based on my
personal experiences that under the umbrella care
of Narendra Bhai, the daughters of the Sangh fam-
ily have little to fear because their brother is always
there, looking after them.”

Inaugurating the

“We have to reduce

POSTAL REG NO. JPC/004/2022-24
Rajendra Chhabra
Jaipur: There is an in-
teresting story around
IAS Aradhana Saxe-
na, currently serving
as Registrar of Ra-
jasthan technical Uni-
versity, and is going to
retire on May 31. 2018
batch IAS Aradhana
started her career 32
years back in May 1990
as a RAS when she was
posted as Assistant Col-
lector of Kota. But what
is perhaps more inter-
esting is the fact that in
her service period ex-
tending over three dec-
ades, since day one, she
has served all her ca-
reer time in Kota, bar-
ring a period of twelve
months! Only two time
she was posted outside
of Kota when she was
transferred to Bundi for
11 months and Sawai
Madhopur for one
month.
During these 32
years, several state gov-
ernments came and
went, several Chief
Ministers came and
went, more than a hun-
dred IAS transfer lists
came, but surprisingly,
Aradhana Saxena re-
mained unmoved from
Kota.
In Kota, she served at
various positions in-
cluding Supply Officer,
Settlement Officer, DIG
Stamp and registration,
Revenue Appellate Au-
thority, Additional
Commissioner Excise,
Deputy Director Local
Bodies, Deputy Direc-
tor Women and Child
Welfare and Deputy
Commissioner Com-
mercial Taxes, to name
a few. She even served
on same positions over
and over but was never
posted outside of Kota,
even though her home-
town is Kota. Four years
back when she was pro-
moted to IAS, thereafter
too she continued to
stay posted in Kota.
Saxena’s is perhaps
the only example of its
kind in the state bu-
reaucracy wherein the
officer has served ‘life-
long’ in the same dis-
trict as their birth and
is also retiring from the
same district.

RUBAL SHEKHAWAT, A
STUNNING DIVA FROM JAIPUR,
SPOKE CANDIDLY WITH CITY FIRST
ABOUT HER INSPIRING JOURNEY, FAMILY
BACKGROUND AND CAREER GOALS AS A MODEL.
SHE EVEN SPOKE ABOUT HOW IMPORTANT IT IS
TO STRIKE A PERFECT BALANCE IN LIFE.
RUBAL SHEKHAWAT: A RAVISHING
VERSION OF CHARM
Describe yourself and what ac-
cording to you are some vital
skills or characteristics that one
should have to make it to the
modelling world?
My name is Rubal Shekhawat
and I am from Jaipur. I have
done graduation and I am a mod-
el, actress and content creator by
profession. I have travelled
across the country because I hail
from a defense background. This
made me very much interested
in travelling to various places
so that I can discover new cul-
tures and participate in ad-
venturous activities. In
my opinion determina-
tion, a consistently
healthy lifestyle and
true dedication to the profes-
sion are essential for modelling.
If you could go in the future and
give yourself some advice about
your career what would it be?
Yes, I would give myself some
advice regarding the healthcare
regime. I would tell myself to
take better care of my health be-
cause initially, my hectic shoot-
ing schedules taxed my health.
What made you find a model in
you?
Modelling was my childhood
dream and I am delighted that
it came true. I used to look up
to Sushmita Sen, Aishwarya
Rai, Priyanka Chopra and
Manushi Chhillar. They all in-
spired me to become a good pro-
fessional. I think my spontane-
ity also made me discover the
model within me. My passion
and dedication to creating my
own identity made me find the
job I was made for.
What according to you was the
biggest mistake made by you
when you started?
The biggest mistake that I com-
mitted was when I took my
health for granted. I used to
be out for shoots from
early morning to late
night and was left bereft
of home-cooked meals. In
the beginning, I could not
manage it well and at times
even ate unhealthy food. Then
I worked on it and made a health
and skin regime which I reli-
giously follow now.
What has been the most memo-
rable or rewarding moment in
your career?
There are so many memorable
and rewarding moments in my
life. Starting with the most re-
cent, winning the title of Femina
Miss India Rajasthan 2022 made
me proud of myself. One of them
is when I did an advertisement
with Ranveer Singh. I have also
done a song with Emraan Hash-
mi and it made me so happy. I am
proud of all that I have done.
rue beauty is not
limited to great
looks as it also in-
cludes the expres-
sion of skills. It is
all about being the
voice of the voiceless by
helping those in need. It is
about serving the country
of birth by helping the un-
derprivileged for the im-
provement of the commu-
nity as well. Today’s wom-
en express themselves

ists in the Femina

he last novel Ernest
Hemingway saw
published, ‘The Old
Man and the Sea’
had proved itself to
be one of the most
enduring works of American
fiction. Using the simple,
powerful language of a fable,
Hemingway takes the time-
less theme of courage- in the
face of defeat and personal
triumph won from loss and
transforms it into a magnifi-
cent 20th Century classic.
Written in 1952, this hugely
successful novel confirmed
Hemingway’s power and
presence in the literary
world. It got him the Pulitzer
Prize in 1953 and the Nobel
Prize for Literature in 1954.
Hemingway was known
for his larger-than-life per-
sonality- due to his passion
for war (he was injured
twice), bullfighting, fishing
and big- game hunting. He
survived two plane crashes!
He viewed the world of war
as complex, filled with moral
ambiguities and full of una-
voidable pain, hurt de-
struction. To survive in such
a world, and to emerge victo-
riously, one must conduct
oneself with honour, cour-
age, endurance and dignity- a
set of principles that came to
be known as ‘The Heming-
way Code’. This was the
theme established in ‘The
Old Man and the Sea’. It’s a
perfectly crafted story, a
unique and timeless vision
of the beauty and grief of
man’s challenge to the ele-
ments in which he lives. “The
old man knew he had one
good fight left in him- so did
Hemingway- they both won-
as we gain insight into what
it means to struggle- to fight
against long odds, succeed!
Only to be beaten at the last
moment…”
‘The Old Man and the Sea’
is the story of an epic strug-
gle between an old, seasoned,
Cuban fisherman and the
greatest catch of his life. For
84 days, Santiago had set out
to sea and returned empty-
handed. Terming him un-
lucky, the parents of his
young, devoted, apprentice
and friend- Manolin, forced
the boy to leave the old man
for more prosperous fishing
boats. Santiago is a mentor to
the boy, who cherishes the
old man and the life lessons
he imparts. “There are many
good fishermen and some
great ones. But there is only
one you.” He does his best to
help and support Santiago
with the boat, supplies, food,
bait etc.
With age and luck now
against him, Santiago knows
he must row out “beyond all
people”, away from land and
into the Gulf Stream, “where
one last drama would be
played out, in an empty arena
of sea and sky”. The old man
hooks a Marlin fish- which is
even bigger than his boat. All
alone, he is tested to the lim-
its as he works the line with
bleeding hands, to bring his
prized catch close enough to
kill with a harpoon. He strug-
gles with the fish for three
days, admiring its strength,
dignity and faithfulness to its
identity- empathizing with it.
He finally reels the Marlin in
and lashes it to the boat. As
he sets sail for home, the con-
tinuous attack by multiple
sharks begins. He fights off
and kills many, but cannot
save his precious Marlin. He
reaches the shore with only
the skeleton, head and tail of
the great fish. Through his
struggle, Santiago demon-
strates the ability of the hu-
man spirit to endure hard-
ship and suffering to win. It
is also his deep love and
knowledge of the sea, in its
impassive cruelty and benef-
icence, that allows him to
prevail. The essential physi-
cality of the story- the smells
of tar salt fish blood, the
cramp nausea and blind
exhaustion of the old man,
the terrifying death spasms
of thegreatfish-issetagainst
the ethereal qualities of daz-
zling light and water, isola-
tion, the swelling motion
of the sea. And through it all
the narrative is constantly
tugging, unreeling a little
more, and then pulling again,
all in tandem with the old
man’s struggle.
“The best story Heming-
way has written- no page of
this beautiful master-work
could have been done better
or differently”. It is unsur-
passed in Hemingway’s
oeuvre. Every word tells
there is not a word too many
.
It is a story that demands to
be read in a single sitting.

form that connection;
it comes out very natu-

chance to work on
such scripts and act in
such films and portray
such characters.”
The actor even
called portraying
Rooh in Bhool Bhulai- yaa 2 as playing an
easy game on his turf.
“The idea is that do
what you are good at
but also choose films
from other genres if
they come across you
and if you like the

First India, with its contemporary and thought- provoking journalism will soon become the ‘pulse’ of the largest city of India with itsuniqueheritageandethos! On the editorial front the newspaper’s policy will be fair and independent but with intelligent support to the popular policies and pro- grammes of the centre and state government. After making a mark in the hearts of people of Ra- jasthan, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and New Delhi, we look forward to keeping pace with the relentless energy of Mumbai and painting First India with the special colours of this beautiful city which makes everyone its own, even as we are sure that Mumbai- kars will welcome us whole- heartedly and give us a place in their homes and hearts. In a cat-and-mouse game that lasted hours, Bagga was taken away by the Punjab police at 5 am. He was arrested for “provocative state- ments, promoting reli- gious enmity and crimi- nal intimidation” over his tweets against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Delhi police, which HIGH COURT TURNS DOWN PUNJAB GOVT’S REQUEST RANAs’ STATEMENTS NOT ENOUGH TO INVOKE SEDITION TRAVESTY OF JUSTICE: SC ON AZAM’S BAIL DELAY COPS PRESENT BAGGA BEFORE DWARKA JUDGE Hours after Haryana Police “abruptly and illegally restrained” the Punjab Police from taking BJP leader Tajinder Pal Bagga to Mohali after arresting him from the national capital, the Punjab and Haryana High Court directed the states of Haryana and Delhi to file their written state- ment. They have been asked to elaborate on the status of the police officials alleged to be detained. In its detailed order grant- ing bail to Independent MP Navneet Rana and her husband MLA Ravi Rana, a special court said that while they “crossed the lines of freedom of speech and expression” in their “blameworthy” statements against Ma- harashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, mere expression of derogatory or objectionable words is not a sufficient ground to invoke sedition under pro- visions of Section 124 A of the Indian Penal Code. The Supreme Court on Friday expressed dis- pleasure over the delay in hearing the bail applica- tion of Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan in a land grabbing case, say- ing “this is a travesty of justice”. Justices LN Rao and BR Gavai noted that Mr Khan has got bail in 86 out of 87 cases, and said it would hear the matter on May 11. “He has been out on bail in all matters except one for so long, this is a travesty of justice,” the bench said. Delhi Police brought Tajinder Bagga for medical at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital. Af- ter the medical, close to midnight, cops were on their way to Dwarka Court’s Judge’s resi- dence in Gurugram to present Bagga till the last reports came in. As per law, it is man- datory for the accused to be presented in the court within 24 hours of the arrest. It is likely that Bagga will be sent to remand. Procedure wasn’t followed. It’s a politi- cal issue as during polls Bagga had de- livered speeches. Speeches normally in- clude blame against each other. First India Bureau Jaipur: Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday expressed concern about press freedom and said that India’s ranking fell in the Press Freedom Index 2022. “India’s ranking has fallen to 150th position out of 180 countries. It is a symbol of the plight of Indian media. Since the coming of the Modi government in 2014, there has been such a vicious cycle of media repression that the me- dia is completely run- ning at the behest of the central government, BJP and RSS,” Gehlot said. The Chief Minister further aded, “There is so much fear in the me- dia that instead of showing the truth with fairness and logic, such coverage is done so that no one is displeased. Today there is an out- cry among the public due to inflation and un- employment, but there is no discussion in the media on this. The de- bate of polarization goes on only in the name of religion. The media should support the people without com- ing under pressure from the central gov- ernment. When the me- dia will talk about the interest of the common man, then the public will also support the media and the central government will not have the courage to curb the media as it has been imposed now.” Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot Longest surviving Hizbul terrorist among 3 killed in encounter in JK Anantnag: Three ter- rorists were been shot dead by the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, which comes under Anantnag district, a key route of the Amar- nath yatra. The Minister es- corted PM Modi from Lok Sabha to Rajya Sabha cham- bers on the day of election of Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha. As part of Parliamen- tary procedure, the PM was not supposed to sit in Rajya Sabha while the election pro- ceedings were on. Yet being the Prime Minister he could have done that as an excep- tion. But PM Modi still chose to abide by the protocol and preferred to wait in the lobby for about half an hour. There was a flurry of activ- ity in the Parliament on the day as the election for Deputy Chairman was being held in Rajya Sabha. Harivanshji had been nominated by Janata Dal (United) for the post although he had been member of Rajya Sabha for only a short time. Now, according to Parlia- mentary procedures, if the Prime Minister is a member of Rajya Sabha, he/she sits in the House from the very be- ginning of the proceedings, and if the PM is member of Lok Sabha instead, then he or she joins the House after the election proceedings are over and is the first to speak a few words about the newly elect- ed Deputy Chairman. It was around 3 pm on 9 Au- gust, 2018 and I was fortunate to have been given the duty of escorting the PM from Lok Sabha to the Upper House. As I reached, PM Modi asked me if the election proceedings were over. I replied, “Sir, it will take 5-10 minutes more”. The PM then asked me to keep trackof theproceedingsonTV and to inform him as soon as they were over. I entered the PM’s chamber after a few min- utesandinformedhimthatthe proceedings would be over by thetimewereachRajyaSabha. My walk down to the Upper House accompanying the PM began and just as we were about to cross the lobby, we got the information that the proceedings were still in pro- gress. That’s when PM Modi decided to halt in the lobby and sat down on a chair, wait- ing patiently for the right time to go in. Immediately the Marshal came and said “Sir, you are the PM. You can go in. You are allowed.” PM Modi, hearing this, posed a short and simple ques- tion,“What’stheprotocol?”He furthersaid,“IamaLokSabha member.ALokSabhamember can attend election proceed- ings in Rajya Sabha but not as Prime Minister.” The Marshal then checked the Rule Book and said “ As a member of Lok Sabha, thePMdoesn’thavethe righttositduringRajyaSabha proceedingsbuthemayattend if the Chair makes an excep- tion for him.” “Why should I make an ex- ception for myself ? I don’t wish to break any rules,” and our Prime Minister contin- ued to sit where he was. This exchange that Naren- dra Modi had with the Mar- shal had a great impact on me. For about 20 minutes, he and I talked about diverse topics while people kept barg- ing in asking him to come and sit in Rajya Sabha. But no one could budge Modiji from his resolve. He equated his situa- tion with someone waiting at the crossing for the red light to turn green and said he would stay where he was while the light was still red. Those 20 minutes taught valuable lessons to all those whocameintouchwiththePM while he waited on the humble chair outside the Rajya Sabha with stoic and hermit-like pa- tience. In the meanwhile, Hari- vansh Singhji was elected Dep- uty Chairman and everyone congratulated him. The corri- dors were abuzz with talks of Narendra Modi’s forbearance andallegiancetohisdutiesand to parliamentary procedures. This incident will remain etched in the memories of all those fortunate to be part of the edifying experience in- stilling in them the impor- tance of adhering to Parlia- mentary traditions and rules, irrespective of one’s position. TO BE CONTINUED… H MODIJI STOOD LIKE A ROCK WHEN I WAS GRASPING AT STRAWS NAMO MAN OF THE MOMENT ssociated with the Sangh family of Guja- rat, Alkaben Bakshi found a saviour in PM Modi who was then serving as a Sangh Pracharak, when she lost her hus- band in 1982. Alkaben brings to us her story about the gentle and compassionate side of Narendra Modi that illumines the fact that the daughters of the Sangh family always have his back in adversity . “When I lost my husband in 1982 in a gruesome accident, I was devastated. At the time I was living at Maninagar in Ahmedabad while my parents were in Vadodra. The Sangh office was located in Dhor Bazaar and Narendra Bhai used to reside in the of- fice premises. As soon as he received the news about the accident, he rushed to Maninagar to console me and my family in the hour of grief. Narendra Bhai immediately took charge of the ornaments and cash in the house, and my husband’s bike and had them placed safely in the Sangh office. All these belong- ings were handed over to me by Narendra Bhai after about ten days when the last rites had been per- formed. The words of compassion and wisdom he spoke to me at that time still ring in my ears. He asked me to keep all the ornaments safely to secure my daughter’s future. Even now when I am in luck and get to meet Modi- ji, he inquires about my well-being and blesses me. When I was in dire straits and was running pillar to posttohavethemedicalandaccidentclaimprocessed, he sent in a request to Harish Patelji, who was a sen- ior lawyer at Gujarat High Court at the time. My case was handled by Harishji and after his death, by his son and after the judgement was pronounced, they did not charge me a single penny for fighting my case. It is an assurance that I can render based on my personal experiences that under the umbrella care of Narendra Bhai, the daughters of the Sangh fam- ily have little to fear because their brother is always there, looking after them.” A COMPILED AND EDITED BY SHASHIKANT SHARMA AND SHWETA SHARMA PRIME MINISTER NARENDRA MODI l Vol 3 l Issue No. 329 l RNI NO. Like everything else in life, education in the classrooms has to adapt and change as per the times. —Jagdeesh Chandra, CEO Editor-in-Chief, First India JAIPUR | SATURDAY, MAY 7, 2022 www.firstindia.co.in I https://firstindia.co.in/epapers/jaipur I twitter.com/thefirstindia I facebook.com/thefirstindia I instagram.com/thefirstindia 08 2NDFRONT POSTAL REG NO. JPC/004/2022-24 Rajendra Chhabra Jaipur: There is an in- teresting story around IAS Aradhana Saxe- na, currently serving as Registrar of Ra- jasthan technical Uni- versity, and is going to retire on May 31. 2018 batch IAS Aradhana started her career 32 years back in May 1990 as a RAS when she was posted as Assistant Col- lector of Kota. But what is perhaps more inter- esting is the fact that in her service period ex- tending over three dec- ades, since day one, she has served all her ca- reer time in Kota, bar- ring a period of twelve months! Only two time she was posted outside of Kota when she was transferred to Bundi for 11 months and Sawai Madhopur for one month. During these 32 years, several state gov- ernments came and went, several Chief Ministers came and went, more than a hun- dred IAS transfer lists came, but surprisingly, Aradhana Saxena re- mained unmoved from Kota. In Kota, she served at various positions in- cluding Supply Officer, Settlement Officer, DIG Stamp and registration, Revenue Appellate Au- thority, Additional Commissioner Excise, Deputy Director Local Bodies, Deputy Direc- tor Women and Child Welfare and Deputy Commissioner Com- mercial Taxes, to name a few. She even served on same positions over and over but was never posted outside of Kota, even though her home- town is Kota. Four years back when she was pro- moted to IAS, thereafter too she continued to stay posted in Kota. Saxena’s is perhaps the only example of its kind in the state bu- reaucracy wherein the officer has served ‘life- long’ in the same dis- trict as their birth and is also retiring from the same district. SHE EVEN SPOKE ABOUT HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO STRIKE A PERFECT BALANCE IN LIFE. RUBAL SHEKHAWAT: A RAVISHING VERSION OF CHARM Describe yourself and what ac- cording to you are some vital skills or characteristics that one should have to make it to the modelling world? My name is Rubal Shekhawat and I am from Jaipur. I have done graduation and I am a mod- el, actress and content creator by profession. I have travelled across the country because I hail from a defense background. This made me very much interested in travelling to various places so that I can discover new cul- tures and participate in ad- venturous activities. In my opinion determina- tion, a consistently healthy lifestyle and true dedication to the profes- sion are essential for modelling. If you could go in the future and give yourself some advice about your career what would it be? Yes, I would give myself some advice regarding the healthcare regime. I would tell myself to take better care of my health be- cause initially, my hectic shoot- ing schedules taxed my health. What made you find a model in you? Modelling was my childhood dream and I am delighted that it came true. I used to look up to Sushmita Sen, Aishwarya Rai, Priyanka Chopra and Manushi Chhillar. They all in- spired me to become a good pro- fessional. I think my spontane- ity also made me discover the model within me. My passion and dedication to creating my own identity made me find the job I was made for. What according to you was the biggest mistake made by you when you started? The biggest mistake that I com- mitted was when I took my health for granted. I used to be out for shoots from early morning to late night and was left bereft of home-cooked meals. In the beginning, I could not manage it well and at times even ate unhealthy food. Then I worked on it and made a health and skin regime which I reli- giously follow now. What has been the most memo- rable or rewarding moment in your career? There are so many memorable and rewarding moments in my life. Starting with the most re- cent, winning the title of Femina Miss India Rajasthan 2022 made me proud of myself. One of them is when I did an advertisement with Ranveer Singh. I have also done a song with Emraan Hash- mi and it made me so happy. I am proud of all that I have done. rue beauty is not limited to great looks as it also in- cludes the expres- sion of skills. YOUR DAY Horoscope by Saurabbh Sachdeva he last novel Ernest Hemingway saw published, ‘The Old Man and the Sea’ had proved itself to be one of the most enduring works of American fiction. Using the simple, powerful language of a fable, Hemingway takes the time- less theme of courage- in the face of defeat and personal triumph won from loss and transforms it into a magnifi- cent 20th Century classic. Written in 1952, this hugely successful novel confirmed Hemingway’s power and presence in the literary world. It got him the Pulitzer Prize in 1953 and the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954. Hemingway was known for his larger-than-life per- sonality- due to his passion for war (he was injured twice), bullfighting, fishing and big- game hunting. He survived two plane crashes! He viewed the world of war as complex, filled with moral ambiguities and full of una- voidable pain, hurt de- struction. To survive in such a world, and to emerge victo- riously, one must conduct oneself with honour, cour- age, endurance and dignity- a set of principles that came to be known as ‘The Heming- way Code’. This was the theme established in ‘The Old Man and the Sea’. It’s a perfectly crafted story, a unique and timeless vision of the beauty and grief of man’s challenge to the ele- ments in which he lives. “The old man knew he had one good fight left in him- so did Hemingway- they both won- as we gain insight into what it means to struggle- to fight against long odds, succeed! Only to be beaten at the last moment…” ‘The Old Man and the Sea’ is the story of an epic strug- gle between an old, seasoned, Cuban fisherman and the greatest catch of his life. For 84 days, Santiago had set out to sea and returned empty- handed. Terming him un- lucky, the parents of his young, devoted, apprentice and friend- Manolin, forced the boy to leave the old man for more prosperous fishing boats. Santiago is a mentor to the boy, who cherishes the old man and the life lessons he imparts. “There are many good fishermen and some great ones. But there is only one you.” He does his best to help and support Santiago with the boat, supplies, food, bait etc. With age and luck now against him, Santiago knows he must row out “beyond all people”, away from land and into the Gulf Stream, “where one last drama would be played out, in an empty arena of sea and sky”. The old man hooks a Marlin fish- which is even bigger than his boat. All alone, he is tested to the lim- its as he works the line with bleeding hands, to bring his prized catch close enough to kill with a harpoon. He strug- gles with the fish for three days, admiring its strength, dignity and faithfulness to its identity- empathizing with it. He finally reels the Marlin in and lashes it to the boat. As he sets sail for home, the con- tinuous attack by multiple sharks begins. He fights off and kills many, but cannot save his precious Marlin. He reaches the shore with only the skeleton, head and tail of the great fish. Through his struggle, Santiago demon- strates the ability of the hu- man spirit to endure hard- ship and suffering to win. It is also his deep love and knowledge of the sea, in its impassive cruelty and benef- icence, that allows him to prevail. The essential physi- cality of the story- the smells of tar salt fish blood, the cramp nausea and blind exhaustion of the old man, the terrifying death spasms of thegreatfish-issetagainst the ethereal qualities of daz- zling light and water, isola- tion, the swelling motion of the sea. And through it all the narrative is constantly tugging, unreeling a little more, and then pulling again, all in tandem with the old man’s struggle. “The best story Heming- way has written- no page of this beautiful master-work could have been done better or differently”. It is unsur- passed in Hemingway’s oeuvre. Every word tells there is not a word too many . It is a story that demands to be read in a single sitting.
