In a candid address out-
side the Parliament on
Monday, Prime Minister
Narendra Modi took a
swipe at the Opposition,
urging them to shift their
focus from venting frus-
tration over Assembly
poll defeats to engaging
in constructive discus-
sions within Parliament.
Addressing the media
ahead of Winter Session,
PM Narendra Modi em-
phasized the importance
of the Opposition learn-
ing from their recent
electoral setbacks and
advised them to abandon
a negative approach. He
suggested that instead of
allowing echoes of defeat
to resonate within Parl ia-
ment walls, Opposition
should seize golden op-
portunity to embrace
positivity, draw lessons
from their losses, and
break free from 9-year
streak of negativity.
‘They are in Opposition
but still I am giving them

Ahead of Parliament Winter Session on
Monday, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has
appealed to all political parties for coopera-
tion to ensure the smooth
functioning of the House.
Parliament’s winter session
kicked off with a stormy start
after the Opposition leaders
raised slogans against the
BJP government over the
‘cash-for-query’ case and the
Ethics Committee’s demand
for the expulsion of TMC MP
Mahua Moitra in connection
with the matter. The govern-
ment has presented a heavy
legislative agenda for the 15
sittings of the Winter Session with key bills to replace
the colonial era criminal laws, a draft legislation to
provide for a framework for appointment of the election
commissioners.
PM Modi was greeted with loud cheers in LS as Ses-
sion began Monday. Chants of “Teesri Baar Modi
Sarkar” echoed in the LS a day after BJP swept the
Assembly polls in three heartland states. BJP MPs in rows
behind him clapped and cheered for his return to power for

After the victory of BJPin
theAssembly elections in
Rajasthan, now all eyes
are fixed on the name of

and there is a lot of specu-

won the elections on the

situation, the party leader-

BJP’S TRIPLE WINS
PUSH SENSEX, NIFTY
TO FRESH HIGHS
he BJP’s triumphant victory in state Assem-
bly elections sparked a euphoric surge in the
stock markets, propelling both Sensex and
Infy to fresh heights. Investors revelled in the positive
momentum as the 30-share Sensex soared by 1,383.93
points, closing at 68,865.12, just shy of the 52-week
pinnacle of 68,918.22. The NSE’s Nifty50 also
reached a peak of 20,686.80 points, affirming the pre-
vailing optimism. This exuberant rally was all-en-
compassing, extending beyond specific sector shares,
with small-cap and mid-cap funds exhibiting robust
performance. Notably,Adani Enterprises emerged as
a significant gainer, surging by 160.30 points.
The market sentiment found its roots in factors
such as GDP growth defying predictions, political
stability at the national and state levels, and a sub-
stantial infusion of Rs 9,000 crores by foreign port-
folio investors. Among these, stability emerged as
the primary influencer. To sustain this upward trajec-
tory and approach the 70,000 mark, the economy
must brace itself for potential headwinds, ensuring
continued preparedness.

NATURE OF
THE MIND
Train the mind a little to live in
the present moment. Observe
the nature of the mind. The
mind clings onto the negative
quality. Ten compliments
and one insult, the mind will
remember the insult only
The mind always vacillates
between the past and the
future. When the mind is in
the past, it’s angry about
something that has already
happened; but anger is
meaningless as we can’t alter
the past. And when the mind
is in the future, it’s anxious
about something that may
or may not happen
What will happen to me
tomorrow? Did you notice that
you had the same question
last year, two years ago also?
But when we are in the present
moment and look back, our
anxiousness and anger appear
so meaningless. So when
anger and anxiousness drop
off, the mind just becomes
full of joy, full of love
THE
QUESTION
OFLIFE
our mind is
always fo-
cused on
what you
want and
you are busy wanting
something all the time. Be-
fore one wants to vanish,
another comes up; they are
in a queue! When you pon-
der over this very nature of
our mind, the question
‘what is the purpose of
life?’ comes up. This very
question is a sign of being
human and it enlivens the
human values in us.
Don’tbeinahurrytofind
an answer to the question;
be with the question. The
one who knows the answer
will not tell you. And the
one who gives you doesn’t
knowtheanswer.Thisques-
tion is a means to go deep
within. You can’t go deep
within by reading books or
doing things here and there.
They may be of help to
some extent, give you some
understanding, but will not
serve the purpose.
Deep inside everyone is
smiling, but we are not in
touch with that smile. Get-
ting in touch with that
smile, being natural, sim-
ple and innocent is enlight-
enment. Enlightenment is
all about living from a
depth of life, not getting
stressed in any circum-
stances. It’s all about being
able to influence circum-
stances and situations rath-
er than getting influenced
by them.
Some say the purpose of
life is not to come back to
this planet again. Others
say love is the purpose of
life. Why would some peo-
ple say they don’t want to
come back? Because they
find there is no love here or
when there is love, it is
very painful. If this place
could be so wonderful and
full of love and divinity,
then the desire of not to
come back will naturally
drop. When we see the
purpose of life from every
angle, then the end product
of life is a love that doesn’t
die out, a love that doesn’t
cause pain, a love that
grows and remains forever.
So how do you get to
that point of love where it
is free from the distortions
and you are at ease with
yourself?
You have to see that
what is really obstructing
you from that innocent
love is your ego. What is
ego? Ego is like a dream.
A dream exists until it
doesn’t exist. You can’t
call a dream real, but you
can’t call it unreal either
because you have the ex-
perience. Ego is simply be-
ing unnatural. The ego is
not a substance; it is a non-
substance like darkness.
Darkness is only a lack of
light. There is no substance
called ego. You could say
it is just a lack of maturity
or the lack of pure knowl-
edge. Knowledge is an aid
to develop the innermost
state of you, which is love.
Love is not an act; it is a
state of being rather than
an act. We are all made up
of love. When the mind is
in the present moment, we
are in a state of love.
Train the mind a little to
live in the present moment.
Observe the nature of the
mind. The mind clings
onto the negative quality.
Ten compliments and one
insult, the mind will re-
member the insult only.
The mind always vacil-
lates between the past and
the future. When the mind
is in the past, it’s angry
about something that has
already happened; but an-
ger is meaningless as we
can’t alter the past. And
when the mind is in the fu-
ture, it’s anxious about
something that may or may
not happen.
What will happen to me
tomorrow? Did you notice
that you had the same
question last year, two
years ago also? But when
we are in the present mo-
ment and look back, our
anxiousness and anger ap-
pear so meaningless. So
when anger and anxious-
ness drop off, the mind
just becomes full of joy,
full of love.

CONGRESS FACES
TOUGH CHALLENGE
FOR LOK SABHA POLL
n the aftermath of the recent Assembly elec-
tion outcomes, the Congress Party is grap-
pling with the blows delivered by the Bharati-
ya Janata Party (BJP) in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh,
and Chhattisgarh. While the triumph in Telangana
offers minimal solace, the BJP’s substantial inroads
there underscore the challenges which lie ahead for
the Congress. These setbacks have undeniably com-
plicated the path to the upcoming parliamentary elec-
tions, creating a formidable hurdle for the party.
Meanwhile, Prime
Minister Narendra
Modi exudes confi-
dence in securing a
hat-trick in 2024.
The daunting task
for the Congress
stems likely from
lack of effective
leadership by Sonia
Gandhi, Rahul Gan-
dhi, and Priyanka
Gandhi. In stark
contrast, the BJP
benefits from reso-
lute decision-mak-
ing, unified by Nar-
endra Modi’s tower-
ing stature, with all
party leaders align-
ing themselves ac-
cordingly. In con-
trast,internaldissent
within the Congress
poses a significant
threat, with sidelined leaders hinting at rebellion.
This leadership vacuum has contributed to the par-
ty’s losses in Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and
Chhattisgarh, foreboding potential challenges in the
upcoming general elections. The Congress must nav-
igate internal discord, contend with disenchanted
ticket aspirants, and face formidable regional leaders
likeAkhileshYadav, Mamata Banerjee, Nitish Kumar,
and Sharad Pawar. Bihar Chief Minister’s name has
already been tossed in the ring for INDIA leadership.
I
As dissent brews and
regional leaders voice
skepticism about
Congress’s leadership,
the party risks
becoming an isolated
entity. The looming
North-South divide
further weakens its
influence in the Lok
Sabha, where the
Hindi heartland holds
greater sway than the
South, portending a
precarious future for
the Congress on the
national political stage

Dubai: COP28 President Sultan al-Jaber is
facing a backlash over his claim that there is “no
science” behind calls for a phase out of fossil
fuels — a demand that many believe will ultimately
determine the success of the United Nations climate
conference. In comments first reported on Sunday by
The Guardian investigative journalism organization
the Centre for Climate Reporting, al-Jaber, COP28
president and UAE climate chief, suggested a fossil fuel
phase out would not allow sustainable development
“unless you want to take the world back into caves.”

This time in the Ra-
jasthan Assembly elec-
tions, BJP has won 34
more seats in Jaipur,
Jodhpur and Bharatpur
divisions than last time.
Out of 115 seats, BJP has
got 58 seats in these three
divisions. Congress has
lost the maximum 23
seats in these divisions.
Apart from this, inAjmer
division also BJP has
wrested six seats from
Congress. Bikaner divi-
sion was the only divi-
sion where Congress
could maintain its previ-
ous figure of 11 seats.
Congress lost at least one
seat in Kota division and
two seats in Udaipur di-
vision.
Out of 50 seats in the
State’s largest Jaipur di-
vision, this time BJPwon
26 and Congress won 24
seats. This difference
may not appear to be
much but if compared to
2018, at that time, BJP
had won only 8 seats
while Congress had won
maximum 32 seats. Ten
seats went to others. This
time BJPsnatched 8 seats
from Congress and all 10
seats from others. Simi-
larly, this time in Jodhpur
division, BJP’s number
of seats increased from
14 to 23 and Congress’s
number decreased from
16 to 6. Other 3 seats re-
mained intact this time
also. In Bharatpur divi-
sion, BJP’s seats in-
creased from 2 to 9 while
Congress’s seats de-
creased from 13 to 7.
Here other seats also re-
duced from 4 to 3.
After this, Ajmer divi-
sion was a profitable deal
for BJP, where BJP seats
increased from 13 to 19
and Congress seats de-
creased from 13 to 7. The
figure of others remained
at three.
Congress got maxi-
mum support in Bikaner
as its 11 seats remained
intact and BJP’s figure
remained at 10. Others
were reduced from 3 to 2.
Here elections were not
held on Karanpur seat
due to the death of the
Congress candidate. Ear-
lier this seat was with
Congress. In Udaipur di-
vision, BJP’s seats in-
creased from 15 to 16
and Congress’s seats
were reduced from 10 to
8. Others also reduced
from 4 to 3. In Kota divi-
sion also, BJPgained one
seat and Congress lost
one seat.

Assembly polls: BJP gets Dalit votes; makes
inroads in BSP and Congress bastions
PTI
Jaipur
The BJP inflicted a blow
to the Congress and the
BSP in Rajasthan by
breaking into their tradi-
tional Scheduled Caste
and Scheduled Tribes
community vote bank as
it swept the Assembly
elections in the State,
winning 115 of the 199
where polling took place.
Of the 34 SC reserved
seats that went to the
polls, the BJP won 22
and the Congress 11. An
Independent candidate
won the other seat.
Among the 25 seats re-
served for ST candidates,
the BJPwon 12, the Con-
gress 10 and the Bharati-
ya Adivasi Party three.
The BJP emerged vic-
torious in Nadbai, Nagar,
Karauli and Tijara which
were won by the BSP in
2018. The Congress won
Udaipurwati and Kis-
hangarh Bas. All these
seats were won by the
Mayawati-led party in
2018 but the MLAs later
joined the Congress.
During the election
campaign, the BJP had
made “atrocities against
Dalits” one of the rally-
ing points against the
Ashok Gehlot govern-
ment. A little over two
percentage points sepa-
rated the vote share of the
BJP and the Congress. In
2018, less than one per-
centage point separated
the winner from the loser.
Dalit support had
come as a breather for the
Congress in the 2018As-
sembly elections, as it
had won 19 out of the 34
SC reserved seats. The
BJP had won 12 of these
seats, the RLP got two,
while one was won by a
Congress rebel as an In-
dependent. The BJP had
won nine ST category
seats in 2018 while 12
such seats were won by
the Congress.
In the 2013 Assembly
elections, the SC com-
munity had largely voted
for the BJP, making it
victorious in 32 of the 34
SC-reserved seats. At
that time, the BJP had
won 163 seats while the
Congress’ tally had
plunged to just 21.

Post Results…
According to informed
sources, after studying
the election results, the
BJP high command will
soon decide the date and
time of the legislature
party meeting. BJP has
won the assembly elec-
tions in Rajasthan as well
as Madhya Pradesh and
Chhattisgarh. The party
leadership has to decide
the Chief Ministers of all
the three states. There is
also a possibility that
legislature party meet-
ings may be called on
different days in the
three states. Then after
taking a decision on the
name of the Chief Minis-
ter, the oath taking pro-
gram should be fixed on
different days in every
state.
However, discussions
are going on at highest
level of BJP in Delhi
regarding poll results of
Raj. The party believes
that even though it has
got absolute majority in
State, the number of
seats has been less than
the estimates. The party
has also lost on many
such seats, on which the
internal survey had con-
sidered the victory of
the BJP candidate cer-
tain. Brainstorming is
going on at the higher
level to reach the rea-
sons for this defeat. In
this regard, the high
command has talked to
many leaders of the
state and taken feed-
back.

BUDDHA IN-DEPTH BJP’S TRIPLE WINS PUSH SENSEX, NIFTY TO FRESH HIGHS he BJP’s triumphant victory in state Assem- bly elections sparked a euphoric surge in the stock markets, propelling both Sensex and Infy to fresh heights. Investors revelled in the positive momentum as the 30-share Sensex soared by 1,383.93 points, closing at 68,865.12, just shy of the 52-week pinnacle of 68,918.22. The NSE’s Nifty50 also reached a peak of 20,686.80 points, affirming the pre- vailing optimism. This exuberant rally was all-en- compassing, extending beyond specific sector shares, with small-cap and mid-cap funds exhibiting robust performance. Notably,Adani Enterprises emerged as a significant gainer, surging by 160.30 points. The market sentiment found its roots in factors such as GDP growth defying predictions, political stability at the national and state levels, and a sub- stantial infusion of Rs 9,000 crores by foreign port- folio investors. Among these, stability emerged as the primary influencer. To sustain this upward trajec- tory and approach the 70,000 mark, the economy must brace itself for potential headwinds, ensuring continued preparedness. Observe the nature of the mind. The mind clings onto the negative quality. Ten compliments and one insult, the mind will remember the insult only The mind always vacillates between the past and the future. When the mind is in the past, it’s angry about something that has already happened; but anger is meaningless as we can’t alter the past. And when the mind is in the future, it’s anxious about something that may or may not happen What will happen to me tomorrow? Did you notice that you had the same question last year, two years ago also? But when we are in the present moment and look back, our anxiousness and anger appear so meaningless. So when anger and anxiousness drop off, the mind just becomes full of joy, full of love THE QUESTION OFLIFE our mind is always fo- cused on what you want and you are busy wanting something all the time. Be- fore one wants to vanish, another comes up; they are in a queue! When you pon- der over this very nature of our mind, the question ‘what is the purpose of life?’ comes up. This very question is a sign of being human and it enlivens the human values in us. Don’tbeinahurrytofind an answer to the question; be with the question. The one who knows the answer will not tell you. And the one who gives you doesn’t knowtheanswer.Thisques- tion is a means to go deep within. You can’t go deep within by reading books or doing things here and there. They may be of help to some extent, give you some understanding, but will not serve the purpose. Deep inside everyone is smiling, but we are not in touch with that smile. Get- ting in touch with that smile, being natural, sim- ple and innocent is enlight- enment. Enlightenment is all about living from a depth of life, not getting stressed in any circum- stances. It’s all about being able to influence circum- stances and situations rath- er than getting influenced by them. Some say the purpose of life is not to come back to this planet again. Others say love is the purpose of life. Why would some peo- ple say they don’t want to come back? Because they find there is no love here or when there is love, it is very painful. If this place could be so wonderful and full of love and divinity, then the desire of not to come back will naturally drop. When we see the purpose of life from every angle, then the end product of life is a love that doesn’t die out, a love that doesn’t cause pain, a love that grows and remains forever. So how do you get to that point of love where it is free from the distortions and you are at ease with yourself? You have to see that what is really obstructing you from that innocent love is your ego. What is ego? Ego is like a dream. A dream exists until it doesn’t exist. You can’t call a dream real, but you can’t call it unreal either because you have the ex- perience. Ego is simply be- ing unnatural. The ego is not a substance; it is a non- substance like darkness. Darkness is only a lack of light. There is no substance called ego. You could say it is just a lack of maturity or the lack of pure knowl- edge. Knowledge is an aid to develop the innermost state of you, which is love. Love is not an act; it is a state of being rather than an act. We are all made up of love. When the mind is in the present moment, we are in a state of love. Train the mind a little to live in the present moment. Observe the nature of the mind. The mind clings onto the negative quality. Ten compliments and one insult, the mind will re- member the insult only. The mind always vacil- lates between the past and the future. When the mind is in the past, it’s angry about something that has already happened; but an- ger is meaningless as we can’t alter the past. And when the mind is in the fu- ture, it’s anxious about something that may or may not happen. What will happen to me tomorrow? Did you notice that you had the same question last year, two years ago also? But when we are in the present mo- ment and look back, our anxiousness and anger ap- pear so meaningless. So when anger and anxious- ness drop off, the mind just becomes full of joy, full of love. THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL Some say the purpose of life is not to come back to this planet again. Others say love is the purpose of life. Why would some people say they don’t want to come back? Because they find there is no love here or when there is love, it is very painful. If this place could be so wonderful and full of love and divinity, then the desire of not to come back will naturally drop. When we see the purpose of life from every angle, then the end product of life is a love that doesn’t die out, a love that doesn’t cause pain, a love that grows and remains forever Y SRI SRI RAVI SHANKAR The writer is an Indian yoga guru, a spiritual leader, founder of The Art of Living CONGRESS FACES TOUGH CHALLENGE FOR LOK SABHA POLL n the aftermath of the recent Assembly elec- tion outcomes, the Congress Party is grap- pling with the blows delivered by the Bharati- ya Janata Party (BJP) in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. While the triumph in Telangana offers minimal solace, the BJP’s substantial inroads there underscore the challenges which lie ahead for the Congress. These setbacks have undeniably com- plicated the path to the upcoming parliamentary elec- tions, creating a formidable hurdle for the party. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi exudes confi- dence in securing a hat-trick in 2024. The daunting task for the Congress stems likely from lack of effective leadership by Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gan- dhi, and Priyanka Gandhi. In stark contrast, the BJP benefits from reso- lute decision-mak- ing, unified by Nar- endra Modi’s tower- ing stature, with all party leaders align- ing themselves ac- cordingly. In con- trast, internaldissent within the Congress poses a significant threat, with sidelined leaders hinting at rebellion. This leadership vacuum has contributed to the par- ty’s losses in Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, foreboding potential challenges in the upcoming general elections. The Congress must nav- igate internal discord, contend with disenchanted ticket aspirants, and face formidable regional leaders likeAkhileshYadav, Mamata Banerjee, Nitish Kumar, and Sharad Pawar. Bihar Chief Minister’s name has already been tossed in the ring for INDIA leadership. I As dissent brews and regional leaders voice skepticism about Congress’s leadership, the party risks becoming an isolated entity. The looming North-South divide further weakens its influence in the Lok Sabha, where the Hindi heartland holds greater sway than the South, portending a precarious future for the Congress on the national political stage
