POSHAN TRACKER AN EFFECTIVE TOOL IN
MONITORING NUTRITIONAL SCHEMES: IRANI
Chandigarh: Poshan tracker
with its large sample size
helps in improving the
quality of the assessment
and is an effective tool in
monitoring the women and
child development schemes.
Union Minister of Women
and Child Development
Smriti Irani said this during
the inaugural session of the
zonal conference in Chandi-
garh on Saturday.
The zonal conference
started with the objective of
sensitising state govern-
ments/UT administrations
on the three umbrella mis-
sions i.e. Mission Poshan
2.0, Mission Shakti and
Mission Vatsalya of the
ministry to facilitate proper
implementation of the
schemes over the next 5
years. It is aimed to ensure
that the transformational
social changes envisaged
under the missions is ac-
complished for the benefit

Dynastic political parties ‘threat’ to
democracy in India, says JP Nadda
Jaipur (PTI): Dynastic
political parties were a
“threat” to democracy
in India, claimed BJP
chief JP Nadda on Sat-
urday while asserting
that only his party was
based on ideology
.
Addressing a Sched-
uled Tribes Sammelan
of the BJP in Sawai
Madhopur district, he
took a swipe at the INC,
saying there is “nothing
‘Indian’, ‘national’ or
‘Congress’ in it”.
“It has become a par-
ty of a family and of a
brother and sister,” Na-
dda said. He said there
are other dynastic po-
litical parties in the
country such as the Sa-
majwadi Party in Uttar
Pradesh, Mamata Ba-
nerjee’s Trinamool Con-
gress in West Bengal, K
Chandrashekhar Rao’s
TDP in Telangana, and
the NCP and Shiv Sena
in Maharashtra.
“Initially, these be-
come regional parties
and later turn into dy-
nastic parties,” he said.
“The BJP has the
largest following and
we will move forward
but we should under-
stand that these parties
are a threat to the de-
mocracy of the country
.
It’s not good for democ-
racy,” Nadda said.
Nadda also targeted
the Aam Aadmi Party,
which has formed gov-
ernment in Punjab, say-
ing it should not be for-
gotten that its candi-
dates got their security
deposits forfeited in
Uttar Pradesh, Goa and
Uttarakhand assembly
elections.

New Delhi: India and Nepal on Saturday launched several
connectivity and energy cooperation initiatives, including
a cross-border passenger train, even as Nepalese Prime
Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba urged his Indian counter-
part Narendra Modi to take steps to resolve a boundary
dispute. The Indian side made it clear both countries need

SRI LANKA IN FIRST MAJOR FOOD AID
New Delhi: TIndian traders have started loading 40,000
tonnes of rice for prompt shipment to Sri Lanka in the first
major food aid since Colombo secured a credit line from
New Delhi, two officials told Reuters on Saturday. The Indian
Ocean island nation of 22 million people is struggling to pay
for essential imports after a 70% drop in foreign exchange
reserves in two years led to a currency devaluation and ef-
forts to seek help from global lenders. The shipment of the
staple comes before a key festival in Sri Lanka.

tal Sports Complex’ as
it has been named after
and built with the sup-

alumnus Saurabh Mit-
tal (B. Tech., Electrical
Engineering) who con-
tributed Rs 10 crore for
the same.
“The indoor sports
complex, which has a
number of facilities
like badminton and
squash courts, and ta-
ble tennis halls, was
inaugurated by Sau-
rabh Mittal and his
parents Dr SK Mittal
and Mrs Kusum Mittal
in the presence of sen-
ior functionaries and
students of IIT Delhi,”
the institute said in a
statement.
It’s a three-storey
air-conditioned com-
plex built for the stu-
dents and employees. It
houses four badminton
courts, two squash
courts, two table tennis
halls, an open-air thea-
tre, office space, a con-
ference room and a ter-
race garden.
“The sports ameni-
ties at the Mittal Sports
Complex will add to the
existing infrastructure
on the campus and will
play a key role in the
successful hosting of
various sporting
events like Inter-IIT
Sports Meet and Insti-
tute level champion-
ships,” the institute
added.
Saurabh Mittal is
presently the Chair-
man of Singapore-
based Mission Hold-
ings, his private global
investment company.
“After completing his
Master of Business Ad-
ministration from the
Harvard Business
School in 1999, he had
partnered with two of
his IIT Delhi class-
mates and co-founded
Indiabulls Group,” the
institute informed.
Speaking on the oc-
casion of the inaugura-
tion, Mittal said: “An
IITian is made equally
inside the lecture thea-
tre as in extracurricu-
lar facilities, like
sports, and creative
activities.

atmosphere of excel-
lence across various

sports complex. This
will enable the all-
round development of
our students.”
GEARING UP
New Delhi: The Greater Noida authority is mulling to
change the names of sectors in the industrial town to
make them simpler for residents as well as for the con-
venience of visitors. The move comes after the authority
received complaints about the sector names on Greek
alphabets such as alpha, beta, delta, gamma, omicron,
eta, zeta, chi, phi, etc. “These names are complicated
and many visitors to Greater Noida face inconvenience to
pronounce or identify them with ease”, said an authority
official. Greater Noida authority’s chief executive officer
Narendra Bhooshan has formed a committee headed by
additional CEO Deep Chand to look into the matter.
New Delhi: The police has arrested three men for their
alleged involvement in the shooting of a sarpanch in

Babupur village, was shot at
by three armed assailants. The
accused had fired at least five
gunshots. Yadav had sustained two bullet wounds and
was rushed to a private hospital. A case was registered

Dehradun-based For-

improve survival rate
of saplings, officials
have said.
The FRI has also
asked the Delhi forest
department to map the
degraded land affected

drivers such as salini-

New Delhi (PTI): With
a majority of Capital’s
adult and teenage popu-
lation receiving their
first dose of the Cov-
id-19 vaccination , the
Delhi government shut
more than half its vac-
cination centres that
were operational in
schools and other non-
health facilities. The
services of around 1,900
contractual vaccina-
tors, nurses and data
entry operators were
also terminated.
According to the gov-
ernment’s Co-WIN
dashboard, Delhi on
Friday conducted its
vaccination drive only
from 488 centres, down
from 1,489 a week ago.
Of them, 401 were
government-run, while
the remaining 87 were
private centres.
Data from the govern-
ment also shows that on
April 1, only 11,378 vac-
cine doses were admin-
istered in Delhi, as
against a daily average
of 28,000 doses adminis-
tered in early March.
“The Covid vaccina-
tion centres are fewer
in number because of
the closure of centres in
schools and non-health
facilities on account of
schools reopening from
Friday. The centres
were particularly fewer
on Friday because that
is the day when routine
immunisation happens
in government dispen-
saries; so Covid vacci-
nations do not happen
in many dispensaries,”
said a senior health de-
partment official, ask-
ing not to be named.

DESIGN READY FOR ‘CORONA WARRIORS’
MEMORIAL AT DELHI ASSEMBLY: OFFICIAL
New Delhi (PTI): The
design for a memorial
on the Delhi assembly’s
premises to pay tribute
to doctors and other
‘corona warriors’ is
ready and its dimension
will be 8 ft long and 6
ft high, officials said.
The actual ground work
to install the memorial,
which will be built in
metal, is expected to
begin soon, they said.
“The design is ready and
the front side of memo-
rial will symbolically
depict in relief artwork,
various Covid warriors
who have rendered
yeoman service during
the pandemic, and many
of whom have also lost
their lives in the line of
duty,” a senior official
told PTI. The artwork
will portray a doctor
in the centre, flanked
by a nurse (heathcare
worker), sanitation
worker, teacher and po-
lice personnel, sources
said. Another official
said that the project will
take at least five to six
months in the making
and added that
the time-line was
stretched due to the
third wave of the Covid
pandemic. Delhi has
gone through three
major waves of the
pandemic. The second
was in April-May last
year and it had wreaked
havoc in the city as
people scrambled to
get beds for their family
members who were in-
fected, and doctors and
other healthcare workers
tried their best to save
lives, inside and outside
hospitals.

New Delhi (PTI):
The Delhi govern-
ment’s excise depart-

liquor.
In February, the
government had pro-
hibited discounts and
schemes being offered
by liquor stores in
view of violations of
Covid-related guide-
lines and unhealthy
market practices.
An order issued by
the excise commis-
sioner of Delhi on Fri-

government has rec-
ommended that re-
bate or discount up to
25 per cent of the MRP
will be allowed on the
sale of liquor in juris-
diction of NCT of
Delhi with strict com-
pliance of Rule 20 of

and if any violation is
noticed, then strict pe-

has moved the Supreme
Court, challenging the
Bombay High Court,
which declined his in-
terim bail in a habeas
corpus petition. Malik
has claimed his arrest
was completely illegal.
OnMarch15,theBom-
bay high court rejected
Malik’s interim applica-
tion seeking immediate
release in a case of mon-

against him by the En-
forcement Directorate
(ED). Malik is in judicial
custody till April 4 and
he was arrested on Feb-

registered against ter-
rorist Dawood Ibrahim
and his aides.
The HC held that Ma-
lik was arrested by the
ED, and subsequently
remanded to custody fol-
lowing due process and
there was no reason for
it to pass any interim or-
der for his release.
Denying relief to Ma-
lik, the Court had said
that just because the

(PMLA) court’s order
remanding him in cus-
tody is not in his favour,
it does not make it ille-
gal or wrong.
Malik has claimed
that the HC refusing to
grant him interim re-
lease is in violation of
the settled position in

hief Justice of India
NV Ramana made a
significant point
while delivering a lec-
ture on “Democracy

Role and Responsibilities” in the
memory of CBI’s founding direc-
tor DP Kohli. He said, “The politi-
cal executive will change with
time. But you, as an institution,
are permanent. Be impermeable

tionedthatpoliceofficers“should
not allow any authoritarian ten-
dencies. They need to function
withinthedemocraticframework

as they have to “reclaim social le-
gitimacy and public trust” which
has been eroded in recent years.
His panacea, an independent
umbrella institution, may not be
an effective mechanism given
the political executives’ pen-
chant to keep the police, CBI and
other investigative agencies un-
der its thumb. A fearless and up-
right police officer runs the risk
of being persecuted in every pos-
sible way. Of these there have
been umpteen examples. That
compels officers to either follow
their masters’ diktat, or quit.

have taken wings. Delhi
Chief Minister Arvind Kejri-

now set his sights on the land
of Prime Minister Narendra
Modi and Union Home Minis-
ter Amit Shah---Gujarat. The
state goes to poll later this
year and Kejriwal is hoping
to fill the space vacated by the
Congress. In Punjab also the
Aam Aadmi Party’s gains
came at the expense of the
Congress and the Akali Dal.
AAP’s objective is to replace
the Congress from opposition
benches and then eventually
oust BJP from power. Step by
step that is how it grabbed
power in Punjab. To help him
achieve that goal is AAP’s
own Chanakya, Sandeep
Pathak, a former professor of
IIT-Delhi. Pathak is said to
have master-minded AAP’s
historic victory in Punjab.
Kejriwal, along with Pun-
jab Chief Minister Bhagwant

Saturday and tried his hand

That the Congress is in an
organizationally weak state
in Gujarat can’t be doubted.
Senior leaders’ departure has
further weakened the party
which lost badly in six mu-
nicipal elections and has also
been wiped out at the pan-
chayat level. That may give
AAP some hope of gaining a
foothold in the state.
But to say that it will oust
BJP from power will be like
bearding a lion in its den.
AAP has made its presence
felt in two municipal corpo-
rations---Gandhinagar and
Surat. That’s not enough.

How have the Chinese re-
acted to the political acrimo-

Chandigarh: Kashmir
Singh on Saturday be-
came the first farmer
in Punjab to receive
MSP payment directly
in bank account.
State Food, Civil Sup-
plies Minister Lal
Chand Kataruchak
said Singh, hailing
from Mohabbatpur vil-
lage in Patiala district,
had brought 51 quintals
of wheat in Rajpura on
March 31 and it was
cleaned and purchased
on April 1, the first day
of wheat procurement.
Within 24 hours of
purchase, the depart-
ment has transferred
the farmer’s payment,
amounting to Rs
1,02,765 directly into
his bank account.
Responding to a me-
dia question regarding
arrangements of trans-
port and labour, he said
it was for first time that
all labour and trans-
port contracts had been
completed well before
start of season.
This has ensured
that all mandis across
the state are in a state
of readiness, with ade-
quate labour trucks.
Regarding the slow
pace of arrival of
wheat in the mandis,
the minister said the
crop has not ripened
yet and was expected to
start reaching mandis
in the Malwa area in
significant quantities
after April 6, while the
Majha region will prob-
ably see the arrivals
pick up after April 12.
The procurement of
wheat for this season
will continue till May
31. Central government
has fixed minimum
support price of wheat
at Rs 2,015 per quintal.

rang Tesia hit out at
the Army personnel
saying that instead of
ensuring the security
of the locals, the
“senseless act” of the
security forces without
proper intelligence
was leading to loss of
their credibility.
“Both of them are
orphans. Now, one’s
hand is injured and an-
other’s leg is wounded.
The government will
have to do something
for them,” he said.

Make your car loan
A JOY RIDE
Buying
a car is a watershed
moment in one’s life. Perhaps
it is a decision in which the entire
family participates, and the opinions of
close family and friends are sought before
making a final decision. One must not
forget that even though car is an asset, but
it is also a liability till the time the loan
period is going on. Hence, one must not
choose a loan in ad-hoc manner, but
rather keep the following points
in mind when opting for
a loan.
RIGHT LOAN AMOUNT
For a car loan, remember that the
average loan amount tends to be
in the range of 75-85% of the car
value. Although funding of up to
100% is available in the market, as
a customer, you should try to keep
the loan amount as per your specific
need. This is crucial as higher funding
would lead to higher EMI and interest
paid over the period. The prudence
of identifying the right loan amount
can ensure your loan repayment is a
pleasant experience.
CHOOSE A LOAN THAT
SUITS YOUR NEEDS
Most customers tend to look at the
interest rate and other charges only
while considering a loan financer.
Some other finer points must be
considered too, such as customer
service, loan processing time, a
hassle-free process — all crucial
factors that we tend to overlook. It
is vital to remember that the key is
getting a loan within a stipulated
time. Evaluating the different rates is
advised before you take a loan. Many
websites offer easy EMI calculators.
DO NOT LIMIT YOUR CHOICES
You can avail of new car loans as well as loans
for pre-owned cars. Just because everyone you
know is buying a new car does not mean you
do the same. If you want a particular car, but
you are worried that a new car may burn a hole
in your pocket, you can then look at pre-owned
car options. The pre-owned car space is rapidly
getting more organised with easy finance avail-
able at attractive rates. Further, point to note is
that in pre-owned car, now-a-days, warranty is
also provided by Organized Car Dealers which
can further provide you comfort in owning the
same.
THE DEVIL LIES IN DETAIL
What interest rate to pay and the tenure of the
loan is key metrices to be assessed before
committing to a car loan. While a tenure of
up to 7 years is available in the market, one
must only take a car loan for a period that one
is comfortable with. Also, a crucial factor to
note while determining EMI payment for a car
loan is to check if other existing loan EMIs are
manageable for you to service. As an informed
customer, one should always check if the finan-
cier/lender is charging any foreclosure charges.
There are multiple financiers who do not charge
foreclosure after a specified period of the loan
is completed.
ARE YOU A PRE-APPROVED
CUSTOMER?
Being a healthy customer of a bank comes with
certain advantages. If you are a good customer
of your existing bank, then chances are more that
you may have a pre-approved car loan under your
name. Availing of pre-approved car loans is usually
easy and efficient with the least paperwork and
time.
A HEALTHY CREDIT SCORE =
FASTER PROCESSING
APPROVAL
Maintaining a healthy Credit Score is of utmost im-
portance; more so when you seek faster approvals
and loan processing. Having a credit score greater
than 750 helps you secure the best of terms and
speaks well of your financial fitness. Your bank
tends to trust you as a reliable borrower. It is
noteworthy that one can enjoy better interest rate
and/or a higher sanction of the loan amount, given
higher credit score.
It’s important that you
buy your car from a dealer who has
a healthy relationship with a bank that
can offer you finance deals. Car dealers have
different tie-ups with different lenders. Accurate
and complete documentation must be ensured to
have a hassle-free experience.
While availing of a car loan, make informed
decisions. Scrutinize. You can bag a customized
deal. Research thoroughly. Show up prepared so
that you are in the best position to get a best-
rate loan. Thoroughly review your options,
understand the nuances before you sign on
the dotted line.
The applicant needs to decide the car
model at first. Then the bank will provide
a maximum of the funding based on the
price of the car model. Once this is done,
the applicant will have to insure and
hypothecate the car for further safety. It
is then that the interest rate is decided
and the process of EMI is ascertained.
EMI should be paid without any failure
to ensure the car doesn’t get repossessed.
HOW TO AVAIL CAR LOAN?

z KNOW YOUR BUDGET: It is very important to know your
budget well to know what kind of car you can afford. You
should evaluate the expenses that will incur the moment you
will apply for a car loan such as car maintenance costs, car
registration cost, etc.

z PLAN THE AMOUNT TO REPAY: According to your budget,
plan the monthly instalment amount that will go into paying
back the amount.

z GET APPROVED FIRST: Just before you are ready to shop
for the car of your choice, get it approved.

z GO FOR CAR SHOPPING: This is the last step when you are
ready to shop for the car of your choice. Remember to
purchase a car that fits your budget.

z AVAIL OFFERS DISCOUNTS: Deciding upon the right time
to purchase the car especially during the year ending
and festive season can help you gain heavy
discounts as banks offer low-interest rates,
waivers on processing fees and other offers
during these times. Watch out for offers
and discounts during festive seasons.

information for the

particular car loan,
readers are
advised to

concerned
bank.
HOW DOES CAR
LOAN WORK?
Car loans can be availed
through different modes.
1) Directly visit the bank
branch. 2) Apply online
through your bank’s internet/
mobile banking portal. 3) Get the
financing through the car dealer.
The bank you choose will collect your
documents and initiate the application
processing, which includes checking your
CIBIL score, the value of the asset (vehicle),
eligibility conditions, and more, and then give a
decision on your loan application based on the
evaluation results.

Hyderabad: Vice-Pres-

Naidu on Saturday said
the traditional New

across the country with
different names and
customs such as Ugadi,
Yugadi, Gudi Padwa,
Chaitra Sukladi, Cheti
Chand, Sajibu Cheirao-
ba, Navreh, is a symbol
of Indian culture, re-
flecting its diversity
and underlying unity
.
Naidu called upon
the youth to preserve
and protect Indian cul-

the significance behind
each Indian festival.
Speaking at Ugadi
celebrations at Swarna
Bharat Trust in Hy-
derabad, the Vice-Pres-
ident wished the tradi-
tional New Year would
usher prosperity and
happiness in the lives
of the people of the
country
.
He observed that
strengthening the
bonds between people
of different cultures
promotes harmony in

called for sustained ef-
forts from everyone for
the country’s progress.
“Let’s unite and move
forward, let’s achieve
Atma Nirbhar Bharat,”
he said.
Naidu observed that
colonial rule exploited
India and led to an infe-
riority complex among
Indians. Urging every-
one to take pride in In-
dia’s ancient heritage,
the Vice-President said
India is experiencing
rapid growth in all sec-
tors and that the entire
world is looking up to
India. Calling for the
highest quality of de-
bate in public dis-
course, he said nobody
should diminish the
country’s status on the
world stage.
Reminding that the
New Year festivals are
also a celebration of na-
ture’s bounty, the Vice-
President urged every-
one to take a pledge on
the New Year to pre-
serve nature and switch
to sustainable practic-
es. He also advised peo-
ple, particularly young-
sters to shun sedentary
lifestyles and adopt
healthy habits.
The Vice-President
stressed the importance
of using Indian lan-
guages in public life and
suggested that “every-
one should cherish and
use their mother tongue
in their daily lives, to
the extent possible”. He
also wanted mother
tongue to be the medi-
um of instruction in
schools, at least till the
primary level. Naidu
said Indian languages
should be increasingly
used in administration
and the courts.

hul and Pri-
yanka recent-
ly. Sources re-
veal that Shi-
vakumar has proposed
to these 2 leaders that
‘if Congress declares
him as its CM face’ in
K’taka polls, then he is
ready to bear all polls
expenses of party. It is
interesting that on the
same lines, keeping in
view the impending
assembly elections in
Gujarat, election strat-
egist Prashant Kishor
has also put forward a
similar proposal to the
Gandhi siblings. When
PK reached to meet
them, they were ac-
companied by a big
leader of the Lehua
Patidar community
and businessman -
Naresh Patel. Priyan-
ka quipped and told
PK- ‘There is still
time for Gujarat
elections, first
the party’s cen-
tral fund should
be helped.’ PK
also jokingly
told Priyanka-
‘We used to call
you Didi. But
this idea
seems to be of ‘Behen-
ji’ (Mayawati).’
CONGMEN FIGHT IN
FRONT OF SONIA
RAISING QUESTIONS
OF GANDHI FAMILY’S
HONOUR IN PARTY
Areview meeting
was convened re-
garding the crushing
defeat of Cong in Pun-
jab in which Punjab
Congress in-charge
Harish was also pre-
sent. Dimpa, a senior
state Congress leader
and MP from Khadoor
Sahib, stood up to
speak, he got extreme-
ly excited while speak-
ing and pointed his
finger directly at Har-
ish saying, ‘When
tickets will
be sold to the highest
bidder, what then does
one expect the result
to be like.’ Chaudhary
interrupted him and
asked them to follow a
dignified language in
speaking. But when
Dimpa went on speak-
ing, a scuffle-like situ-
ation developed, the
complaint of which
reached Sonia Gandhi.
Sonia summoned both
Chaudhary and Dimpa
to explain that such
things coming in the
‘public domain’ cause
damage to party, but
both the men started
fighting again in front
of Sonia.
WILL IT BE A
SMOOTH SAILING
FOR RAHUL’S
CORONATION?
Is the Congress high
command and party
leaders supporting the
Gandhi family draw-
ing up the ‘path’ for
Rahul Gan-
dhi’s coro-
nation as

dent in
New Del-
hi? It
s u r e l y
seems so as
h i g h l y
p l a c e d
sourc-

the grand-old party
have revealed that it
was decided in the
meeting of Sonia and
the disgruntled lead-
ers that Rahul should
be crowned as presi-
dent in lieu of RS seat
and in return Rahul’s
coronation would not
be opposed by disgrun-
tled Congress leaders.
In such a situation, a
new problem for the
high command is per-
haps coming up due to
the meeting of both
the leaders. It now re-
mains to be seen if
this resentment
blooms into a new ‘re-
bellion’ or if the rebel
stays ‘tamed’?
..AND FINALLY
BJD chief Naveen
Patnaik’s spirits
are on 7th heaven after
a bumper victory in
Nagar Panchayat polls
in Odisha. He had
come to Delhi last
Tuesday as chief guest
at BBC’s Women’s
Sports Awards and
was also scheduled to
meet Modi, but meet-
ing did not take place.
Patnaik was told that
he should meet a sen-

But Naveen declined
the meet saying that
he will come to Delhi
again, when the PM
will have time’.

award-winning
novelist and
short fiction
writer. He is
most recog-
nized for his haunting
literary style and memo-
rable characters. Malfi
writes dark fiction that
transcends genres to
gain wider acceptance
among readers of quali-
ty literature. ‘The Can-
yon of Souls’ (also pub-
lished as ‘The Ascent’) is
the first of his books to
be published in India. It
takes the reader on a
journey across conti-
nents, scaling Himala-
yan peaks and dealing
with ghosts from the
past. ‘The Canyon of
Souls’ is what the Tibet-
ans lore accords the sta-
tus of a ‘beyul’ -a Shan-
gri-La- ‘a hidden land’ of
mythical significance,
the lands between our
world and the next, be-
tween the world of mor-
tals the world of im-
mortals. “These Divine
Lands are not meant to
be found or conquered.
They reveal themselves
to those pure enough to
see them”
Tim Overleigh is a re-
nowned sculptor, who
quit art for extreme
sports having never re-
covered from his wife
Hannah walking out on
him with another man.
Before he could attempt
reconciliation with her,
she dies in a car crash.
While out solo on a spe-
lunking expedition, Tim
meets with a fatal acci-
dent. He has a fall is
trapped in a deep cavern
chamber. As he views his
disorienting surround-
ings, he sees the ghost of
his wife- warning him,
coaxing him out and
leading him to safety.
Overcome with despair
and guilt, he turns to al-
cohol to dim the mental
anguish and pushes him-
self to near insanity
.
A chance meeting
with his long-lost ac-
quaintance, Andrew
Trumbauer- an enigmat-
ic, rich, eccentric, adven-
ture junkie- gifts Tim
with an ‘all-expenses-
paid’, exciting expedi-
tion invitation. He
reaches Nepal- lured by
the impossible quest to
find the elusive and pos-
sibly mythical Canyon
of Souls. However, as he
meets the other five
members of the expedi-
tion, a sense of mystery
and ominous purpose
unfolds. None of them-
all six strangers to each
other- can say why ex-
actly Andrew asked
them on the journey.
Each of them carries
within- a sense of life or
death, redemption or
guilt and betrayal.
The daunting climb
will put Tim and the
team against not just the
unforgiving weather and
impossible terrain of the
Himalayas, but also a
journey through Tibetan
mysticism, deceit, death
and life-altering realiza-
tions, along with facing
the ghosts that live with-
in each one of them.
Their peregrination
leads from the Godesh
Ridge to the Valley of
Walls, to the Sanctuary
of the Gods, and the Hall
of Mirrors, before reach-
ing the never before
crossed Canyon of Souls.
But what begins as a
folklore expedition, soon
turns into an experi-
ment in torment, de-
struction and death. Will
any of the men escape
the mountain with their
lives?
“The prose is sharp
and evocative- you shiv-
er in the icy winds and
the blinding snow of the
Himalayas; the charac-
ters are layered and
deep, and the plot dia-
bolical. Above all, this
story of man against na-
ture and man against
man pulls you along at
dizzying heights.” Just
as we believe Andrew is
on a mission to cure the
tortured soul of each
man, a small gesture top-
ples our faith. Tim be-
gins to realize that their
fearless leader has two
overlapping plans- with
one obviously to com-
plete the unattainable
and the other is pure sin-
ister. It’s a journey about
strength, forgiveness,
regret, hope, death wish-
es and dark secrets.

COCONUTS CHERRIES
Coconut oil also helps improve wrin-
kles on the face. Coconut oil, when
applied to the skin, acts as an anti-in-
flammatory and helps protect the skin
from UV rays. It has a nourishing im-
pact on the skin.
Coconut rebuilds the skin tissue and
rebuilds the connective tissues. The
best kind to get is organic extra virgin
coconut oil.
When it comes to skincare cherry
is a superfood. Anyone can get
rid of skin flakiness by regularly con-
suming cherries. Cherries prevent oxi-
dative stress which plays a major role
in the ageing process. They are high in
Vitamin C and Potassium which are
two important nutrients for skin
health. Vitamin C is important for col-
lagen and potassium which keeps the
skin hydrated.
TOMATOES
The scorching heat of the sun damages the skin
causing burns. However, tomatoes may reverse
the damage caused by the sun. The addition of a
few raw tomatoes in meals helps to reduce the
harmful impact of sun rays. According to re-
search, a diet rich in toma-
toes can reduce
UV-induced skin
damage.
GINGER
Ginger is a natural acne treatment. It
is also used in face washes, gels and
creams. Zinc limits the production of the
hormones that create acne. People with
acne-prone skin are mostly zinc deficient.
Foods rich in zinc include pumpkins seeds,
ginger and pecans.
GREEN
VEGETABLES
MINERAL
WATER
It is very important to stay hy-
drated for good health. Higher
water intake regularly gives one
healthier and glowing skin as it
helps to cleanse and purify toxic
debris and wash away rancid oils
from the skin.
Green vegetables are skin beauty
boosters because they have beta-
carotene in them. They help to keep
the skin infection free and supple in
the daily routine.
The season of sweltering heat
has come and it affects the
skin more than anything.

GREEN TEA
Dark circles can be eliminated by
regularly drinking green tea. Al-
lergens are the cause of dark circles
hence foods high in quercetin such as
blackberries, blueberries and green
tea are best to fight them.
ZUCCHINI
Zucchini helps in collagen produc-
tion as it has a high content of man-
ganese. It is a mineral that helps to
fight off sun damage. It also increases
skin elasticity and prevents rashes.
Other manganese-rich foods include
mussels, nuts, whole grains and oys-

POSHAN TRACKER AN EFFECTIVE TOOL IN MONITORING NUTRITIONAL SCHEMES: IRANI Chandigarh: Poshan tracker with its large sample size helps in improving the quality of the assessment and is an effective tool in monitoring the women and child development schemes. Union Minister of Women and Child Development Smriti Irani said this during the inaugural session of the zonal conference in Chandi- garh on Saturday. The zonal conference started with the objective of sensitising state govern- ments/UT administrations on the three umbrella mis- sions i.e. Mission Poshan 2.0, Mission Shakti and Mission Vatsalya of the ministry to facilitate proper implementation of the schemes over the next 5 years. It is aimed to ensure that the transformational social changes envisaged under the missions is ac- complished for the benefit of women and children of the country. P8 Smriti Irani addressing media after the 1st Zonal Conference, in Chandigarh on Saturday. Dynastic political parties ‘threat’ to democracy in India, says JP Nadda Jaipur (PTI): Dynastic political parties were a “threat” to democracy in India, claimed BJP chief JP Nadda on Sat- urday while asserting that only his party was based on ideology . Addressing a Sched- uled Tribes Sammelan of the BJP in Sawai Madhopur district, he took a swipe at the INC, saying there is “nothing ‘Indian’, ‘national’ or ‘Congress’ in it”. “It has become a par- ty of a family and of a brother and sister,” Na- dda said. He said there are other dynastic po- litical parties in the country such as the Sa- majwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh, Mamata Ba- nerjee’s Trinamool Con- gress in West Bengal, K Chandrashekhar Rao’s TDP in Telangana, and the NCP and Shiv Sena in Maharashtra. “Initially, these be- come regional parties and later turn into dy- nastic parties,” he said. “The BJP has the largest following and we will move forward but we should under- stand that these parties are a threat to the de- mocracy of the country . It’s not good for democ- racy,” Nadda said. Nadda also targeted the Aam Aadmi Party, which has formed gov- ernment in Punjab, say- ing it should not be for- gotten that its candi- dates got their security deposits forfeited in Uttar Pradesh, Goa and Uttarakhand assembly elections. The services of around 1,900 contractual vaccina- tors, nurses and data entry operators were also terminated. According to the gov- ernment’s Co-WIN dashboard, Delhi on Friday conducted its vaccination drive only from 488 centres, down from 1,489 a week ago. Another official said that the project will take at least five to six months in the making and added that the time-line was stretched due to the third wave of the Covid pandemic. Delhi has gone through three major waves of the pandemic. TOP TWEETS POLITICAL EXECUTIVES WILL CHANGE, YOU ARE PERMANENT: CHIEF JUSTICE TO CBI hief Justice of India NV Ramana made a significant point while delivering a lec- ture on “Democracy , Role and Responsibilities” in the memory of CBI’s founding direc- tor DP Kohli. He said, “The politi- cal executive will change with time. But you, as an institution, are permanent. Be impermeable and be independent. Pledge soli- daritytoyourservice.Yourfrater- nity is your strength.” He cau- tionedthatpoliceofficers“should not allow any authoritarian ten- dencies. They need to function withinthedemocraticframework asprescribedbytheConstitution” as they have to “reclaim social le- gitimacy and public trust” which has been eroded in recent years. His panacea, an independent umbrella institution, may not be an effective mechanism given the political executives’ pen- chant to keep the police, CBI and other investigative agencies un- der its thumb. A fearless and up- right police officer runs the risk of being persecuted in every pos- sible way. Of these there have been umpteen examples. That compels officers to either follow their masters’ diktat, or quit. C fter his party’s thumping victory in the Punjab elec- tion, Arvind Ke- jriwal’s ambitions have taken wings. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejri- wal, who is also the Aam Aadmi Party president, has now set his sights on the land of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minis- ter Amit Shah---Gujarat. The state goes to poll later this year and Kejriwal is hoping to fill the space vacated by the Congress. In Punjab also the Aam Aadmi Party’s gains came at the expense of the Congress and the Akali Dal. AAP’s objective is to replace the Congress from opposition benches and then eventually oust BJP from power. Step by step that is how it grabbed power in Punjab. To help him achieve that goal is AAP’s own Chanakya, Sandeep Pathak, a former professor of IIT-Delhi. Pathak is said to have master-minded AAP’s historic victory in Punjab. Kejriwal, along with Pun- jab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, landed in Gujarat on Saturday and tried his hand at the charkha at Gandhi Ash- ram.Thepartyintendstocon- testallthe182Assemblyseats. That the Congress is in an organizationally weak state in Gujarat can’t be doubted. Senior leaders’ departure has further weakened the party which lost badly in six mu- nicipal elections and has also been wiped out at the pan- chayat level. That may give AAP some hope of gaining a foothold in the state. But to say that it will oust BJP from power will be like bearding a lion in its den. AAP has made its presence felt in two municipal corpo- rations---Gandhinagar and Surat. That’s not enough. ARVIND KEJRIWAL’S NEXT STOP: GUJARAT AAP’s objective is to replace the Congress from opposition benches and then eventually oust BJP from power. Step by step that is how it grabbed power in Punjab. Imran Khan lost several elections in his effort to become a member of the National Assembly . In 2018 he with the backing of the Army became Prime Minister. He had no blood on his hands. Coming from a well-to-do family no one could cast aspersion on his financialintegrity .TheArmy has now decided Prime Min- ister Imran Khan has to re- sign. He has refused to oblige, inspite of the fact that his government is in a minority . Imran Khan has also lost “his cool”, a fatal flaw in a politician. He soon took to “vilifying” India and repeatedly parroted the out-of-date Security Coun- cil’s pro-Pakistani resolu- tions. Responding to a me- dia question regarding arrangements of trans- port and labour, he said it was for first time that all labour and trans- port contracts had been completed well before start of season. This has ensured that all mandis across the state are in a state of readiness, with ade- quate labour trucks. Regarding the slow pace of arrival of wheat in the mandis, the minister said the crop has not ripened yet and was expected to start reaching mandis in the Malwa area in significant quantities after April 6, while the Majha region will prob- ably see the arrivals pick up after April 12. • 7. BIZ BUZZ NEW DELHI | SUNDAY, APRIL 3, 2022 06 www.firstindia.co.in I www.firstindia.co.in/epapers/delhi I twitter.com/thefirstindia I facebook.com/thefirstindia I instagram.com/thefirstindia Promoted by AU Small Finance Bank Make your car loan A JOY RIDE Buying a car is a watershed moment in one’s life. Perhaps it is a decision in which the entire family participates, and the opinions of close family and friends are sought before making a final decision. One must not forget that even though car is an asset, but it is also a liability till the time the loan period is going on. Hence, one must not choose a loan in ad-hoc manner, but rather keep the following points in mind when opting for a loan. RIGHT LOAN AMOUNT For a car loan, remember that the average loan amount tends to be in the range of 75-85% of the car value. Although funding of up to 100% is available in the market, as a customer, you should try to keep the loan amount as per your specific need. This is crucial as higher funding would lead to higher EMI and interest paid over the period. The prudence of identifying the right loan amount can ensure your loan repayment is a pleasant experience. CHOOSE A LOAN THAT SUITS YOUR NEEDS Most customers tend to look at the interest rate and other charges only while considering a loan financer. Some other finer points must be considered too, such as customer service, loan processing time, a hassle-free process — all crucial factors that we tend to overlook. It is vital to remember that the key is getting a loan within a stipulated time. Evaluating the different rates is advised before you take a loan. Many websites offer easy EMI calculators. DO NOT LIMIT YOUR CHOICES You can avail of new car loans as well as loans for pre-owned cars. Just because everyone you know is buying a new car does not mean you do the same. If you want a particular car, but you are worried that a new car may burn a hole in your pocket, you can then look at pre-owned car options. The pre-owned car space is rapidly getting more organised with easy finance avail- able at attractive rates. Further, point to note is that in pre-owned car, now-a-days, warranty is also provided by Organized Car Dealers which can further provide you comfort in owning the same.   THE DEVIL LIES IN DETAIL What interest rate to pay and the tenure of the loan is key metrices to be assessed before committing to a car loan. While a tenure of up to 7 years is available in the market, one must only take a car loan for a period that one is comfortable with. Also, a crucial factor to note while determining EMI payment for a car loan is to check if other existing loan EMIs are manageable for you to service. As an informed customer, one should always check if the finan- cier/lender is charging any foreclosure charges. There are multiple financiers who do not charge foreclosure after a specified period of the loan is completed. ARE YOU A PRE-APPROVED CUSTOMER? Being a healthy customer of a bank comes with certain advantages. If you are a good customer of your existing bank, then chances are more that you may have a pre-approved car loan under your name. Availing of pre-approved car loans is usually easy and efficient with the least paperwork and time. A HEALTHY CREDIT SCORE = FASTER PROCESSING APPROVAL Maintaining a healthy Credit Score is of utmost im- portance; more so when you seek faster approvals and loan processing. Having a credit score greater than 750 helps you secure the best of terms and speaks well of your financial fitness. Your bank tends to trust you as a reliable borrower. It is noteworthy that one can enjoy better interest rate and/or a higher sanction of the loan amount, given higher credit score. It’s important that you buy your car from a dealer who has a healthy relationship with a bank that can offer you finance deals. Car dealers have different tie-ups with different lenders. Accurate and complete documentation must be ensured to have a hassle-free experience. While availing of a car loan, make informed decisions. Scrutinize. You can bag a customized deal. Research thoroughly. Show up prepared so that you are in the best position to get a best- rate loan. Thoroughly review your options, understand the nuances before you sign on the dotted line. The applicant needs to decide the car model at first. Then the bank will provide a maximum of the funding based on the price of the car model. Once this is done, the applicant will have to insure and hypothecate the car for further safety. It is then that the interest rate is decided and the process of EMI is ascertained. EMI should be paid without any failure to ensure the car doesn’t get repossessed. HOW TO AVAIL CAR LOAN? z KNOW YOUR BUDGET: It is very important to know your budget well to know what kind of car you can afford. You should evaluate the expenses that will incur the moment you will apply for a car loan such as car maintenance costs, car registration cost, etc. z PLAN THE AMOUNT TO REPAY: According to your budget, plan the monthly instalment amount that will go into paying back the amount. z GET APPROVED FIRST: Just before you are ready to shop for the car of your choice, get it approved. z GO FOR CAR SHOPPING: This is the last step when you are ready to shop for the car of your choice. Remember to purchase a car that fits your budget. z AVAIL OFFERS DISCOUNTS: Deciding upon the right time to purchase the car especially during the year ending and festive season can help you gain heavy discounts as banks offer low-interest rates, waivers on processing fees and other offers during these times. Watch out for offers and discounts during festive seasons. Bhaskar Karkera, Head of Wheels, AU Small Finance Bank Disclaimer: This is general information for the readers. For a particular car loan, readers are advised to contact the concerned bank. HOW DOES CAR LOAN WORK? Car loans can be availed through different modes. 1) Directly visit the bank branch. 2) Apply online through your bank’s internet/ mobile banking portal. 3) Get the financing through the car dealer. The bank you choose will collect your documents and initiate the application processing, which includes checking your CIBIL score, the value of the asset (vehicle), eligibility conditions, and more, and then give a decision on your loan application based on the evaluation results.

This time during Parl session, AIMIM chief Asadud- din Owaisi suddenly came face to face with SP supremo Akhilesh in the corridor of Parl. For a moment, both leaders met and Owai- si went ahead and em- braced Akhilesh. At first, Akhilesh opened a box of complaints stressing on the dam- age AIMIM has done to the SP in the UP polls. But Owaisi’s was un- phased with the com- plaints and suggested to ‘Let’s move ahead.’ Then on Guddu Jama- li’s from Owaisi’s par- ty opting for BSP, Akh- ilesh said- ‘I told you to send him (Jamali) to me with the promise that I would have made MLC. But you did not listen to me.’ BJP plans to break Shivpal from Akhilesh and make him its candi- date from Azamgarh, so that the Yadav fam- ily and the Yadav stronghold can be split. The only option left before Akhilesh is to either field his wife Dimple from Azam- garh or bet on SP Dis- trict Prez Havildar. YOGI’S DARD-E-DIL After the division of depts in cabi- net, UP CM Yogi was talking ‘off the record’ to some journos in which he revealed that he wanted Swatantra to be Dy CM, as well as Mahendra Jaipratap Singh as ministers in his cabinet, but a list of Delhi High Com- mand was already pre- pared. When this list was given to him to see, the names of Shri- kant and Sid- dharthnath were also included in it. Al- though he protested and ques- t i o n e d that ‘when the image of a corruption-free government is to be presented, then why were these names in- cluded?’ After which both the names were dropped. Sources re- veal that Shrikant Sharma has got assur- ance from BJP high command that BJP will make him its LS candidate from Mathu- ra in 2024, before which he can be made in charge of an impor- tant state by bringing him in the organiza- tion. Regarding Brajesh becoming Dy CM, Yogi clarified that his first choice for Dy CM as Brah- min face w a s Dinesh S h a r - ma. CONGRESS SATRAPS BARGAINING WITH PARTY HIGH COMMAND There are indica- tions that Karna- taka Assembly polls- may be held ahead of time. Although Karna- taka’s polls are to be held in May 2023, the BJP plans to hold elec- tions along with Guja- rat polls in December. After waving saffron flag in 4 of 5 states, the BJP and the Sangh are in a tizzy and the party feels somewhere that there has been a rapid polarization of Hindu votes in the state on the issue of hijab and therefore, the political atmosphere is in BJP’s favor, so this opportu- nity should not be missed. Sensing the gravity of the matter, a strong leader of Karnataka Con- gress, DK Shiva- kumar, met Ra- hul and Pri- yanka recent- ly. Sources re- veal that Shi- vakumar has proposed to these 2 leaders that ‘if Congress declares him as its CM face’ in K’taka polls, then he is ready to bear all polls expenses of party. It is interesting that on the same lines, keeping in view the impending assembly elections in Gujarat, election strat- egist Prashant Kishor has also put forward a similar proposal to the Gandhi siblings. When PK reached to meet them, they were ac- companied by a big leader of the Lehua Patidar community and businessman - Naresh Patel. Priyan- ka quipped and told PK- ‘There is still time for Gujarat elections, first the party’s cen- tral fund should be helped.’ PK also jokingly told Priyanka- ‘We used to call you Didi. But this idea seems to be of ‘Behen- ji’ (Mayawati).’ CONGMEN FIGHT IN FRONT OF SONIA RAISING QUESTIONS OF GANDHI FAMILY’S HONOUR IN PARTY Areview meeting was convened re- garding the crushing defeat of Cong in Pun- jab in which Punjab Congress in-charge Harish was also pre- sent. Dimpa, a senior state Congress leader and MP from Khadoor Sahib, stood up to speak, he got extreme- ly excited while speak- ing and pointed his finger directly at Har- ish saying, ‘When tickets will be sold to the highest bidder, what then does one expect the result to be like.’ Chaudhary interrupted him and asked them to follow a dignified language in speaking. But when Dimpa went on speak- ing, a scuffle-like situ- ation developed, the complaint of which reached Sonia Gandhi. Sonia summoned both Chaudhary and Dimpa to explain that such things coming in the ‘public domain’ cause damage to party, but both the men started fighting again in front of Sonia. WILL IT BE A SMOOTH SAILING FOR RAHUL’S CORONATION? Is the Congress high command and party leaders supporting the Gandhi family draw- ing up the ‘path’ for Rahul Gan- dhi’s coro- nation as p a r t y p r e s i - dent in New Del- hi? It s u r e l y seems so as h i g h l y p l a c e d sourc- es in the grand-old party have revealed that it was decided in the meeting of Sonia and the disgruntled lead- ers that Rahul should be crowned as presi- dent in lieu of RS seat and in return Rahul’s coronation would not be opposed by disgrun- tled Congress leaders. In such a situation, a new problem for the high command is per- haps coming up due to the meeting of both the leaders. It now re- mains to be seen if this resentment blooms into a new ‘re- bellion’ or if the rebel stays ‘tamed’? ..AND FINALLY BJD chief Naveen Patnaik’s spirits are on 7th heaven after a bumper victory in Nagar Panchayat polls in Odisha. He had come to Delhi last Tuesday as chief guest at BBC’s Women’s Sports Awards and was also scheduled to meet Modi, but meet- ing did not take place. Patnaik was told that he should meet a sen- ior colleague of PM. But Naveen declined the meet saying that he will come to Delhi again, when the PM will have time’. He is most recog- nized for his haunting literary style and memo- rable characters. Malfi writes dark fiction that transcends genres to gain wider acceptance among readers of quali- ty literature. ‘The Can- yon of Souls’ (also pub- lished as ‘The Ascent’) is the first of his books to be published in India. It takes the reader on a journey across conti- nents, scaling Himala- yan peaks and dealing with ghosts from the past. ‘The Canyon of Souls’ is what the Tibet- ans lore accords the sta- tus of a ‘beyul’ -a Shan- gri-La- ‘a hidden land’ of mythical significance, the lands between our world and the next, be- tween the world of mor- tals the world of im- mortals. “These Divine Lands are not meant to be found or conquered. They reveal themselves to those pure enough to see them” Tim Overleigh is a re- nowned sculptor, who quit art for extreme sports having never re- covered from his wife Hannah walking out on him with another man. Before he could attempt reconciliation with her, she dies in a car crash. While out solo on a spe- lunking expedition, Tim meets with a fatal acci- dent. He has a fall is trapped in a deep cavern chamber. As he views his disorienting surround- ings, he sees the ghost of his wife- warning him, coaxing him out and leading him to safety. Overcome with despair and guilt, he turns to al- cohol to dim the mental anguish and pushes him- self to near insanity . A chance meeting with his long-lost ac- quaintance, Andrew Trumbauer- an enigmat- ic, rich, eccentric, adven- ture junkie- gifts Tim with an ‘all-expenses- paid’, exciting expedi- tion invitation. He reaches Nepal- lured by the impossible quest to find the elusive and pos- sibly mythical Canyon of Souls. However, as he meets the other five members of the expedi- tion, a sense of mystery and ominous purpose unfolds. None of them- all six strangers to each other- can say why ex- actly Andrew asked them on the journey. Each of them carries within- a sense of life or death, redemption or guilt and betrayal. The daunting climb will put Tim and the team against not just the unforgiving weather and impossible terrain of the Himalayas, but also a journey through Tibetan mysticism, deceit, death and life-altering realiza- tions, along with facing the ghosts that live with- in each one of them. Their peregrination leads from the Godesh Ridge to the Valley of Walls, to the Sanctuary of the Gods, and the Hall of Mirrors, before reach- ing the never before crossed Canyon of Souls. But what begins as a folklore expedition, soon turns into an experi- ment in torment, de- struction and death. Will any of the men escape the mountain with their lives? “The prose is sharp and evocative- you shiv- er in the icy winds and the blinding snow of the Himalayas; the charac- ters are layered and deep, and the plot dia- bolical. Above all, this story of man against na- ture and man against man pulls you along at dizzying heights.” Just as we believe Andrew is on a mission to cure the tortured soul of each man, a small gesture top- ples our faith. Tim be- gins to realize that their fearless leader has two overlapping plans- with one obviously to com- plete the unattainable and the other is pure sin- ister. It’s a journey about strength, forgiveness, regret, hope, death wish- es and dark secrets. “This is an exhilarat- ing thriller as the men makeadramaticascentto the top of the world but cannot ascend man’s in- sidiousnature.”Asoneby oneapersondiesmysteri- ously , they realize that their frugal food is laced with poison, the climbing equipment has been tam- pered with, and danger lurks at every step. Ronald Malfi deserves accoladesforhisbrilliant description of the Hima- layan topography, the chilling action all through, the intermin- gling of the present with the past, and the subtle details of Tim’s haunting visions. “He has a knack of making nightmares seem very very real.” It’s a thrilling edge-of-your- seat ride that will keep you guessing. “This book will haunt you after you read the last page, giving you that delicious chill as you wonder whether what seems to have happened did!” Sagittarius NOVEMBER 23 - DECEMBER 21 Satisfaction is foreseen for the image conscious people trying to achieve perfect figure and physique.
