WHAT IS ABUSE OF
POWER?
Abuse of power mean a person using the power he
has for his own personal gain.
Types of abuse of power
• Nepotism:
use of power or influence of favouring relatives
or friends especially giving them jobs.
• Use of classified information for personal gain:
some time people in office uses their power
to get some classified information and put it into bad use.
Through this they get some personal gains. It may be in the
form of money.
• Bullying:
use superior strength or influence to intimidate
(someone), typically to force them to do something.
Some time bosses use their influence on their employees to do
extra work. It can negatively affect an employee’s work
performance , home life and health.
• Harassment:
some time people use their power and influence to harass their
employees and colleagues.
Most comment is sexual harassment of female employees.
Fox news CEO Roger Ailes paid $20 millions to settle a sexual
harassment lawsuit which is filed by a female employee.
• Earn money:
some time people use their powers to earn
money. They act in corruption manner to earn
money through illegal ways.
Causes of abuse of power
• The people who have power want to show others that they can
do any thing with their power. The other people cannot
question them as they have power. the free will make them to
abuse their power they have.
• the people have power want to create a high self esteem.
• The people who have power want to earn more money.
Hence. The use their power and act in a corruption manner to
earn money.
Effects of abuse of power
• Lower employee moral:
Low employee morale can mean loss
of profits for companies and can cause employees to focus less on
customers and more on complaining. Nepotism has a negative effect
on a workplace, employee morale decreases.
• Get Accused of Favoritism:
When a manager or business owner
has a pre-existing relationship with an employee, they often get
accused of favoritism.
• Bad reputation of company:
abuse of power of by
officers causes bad reputation of company which causes
bad impact on the company in the market. Due to which
company may face big loses.
• Risk of legal action:
Companies who practice nepotism &
abuse of power could be at risk of getting sued by
employees.
