The document discusses the forms and conventions used in the design of a music magazine focused on R&B genres. It describes using similar colors and fonts throughout to tie the front cover, contents page, and articles together as one magazine. The front cover includes a barcode, one large main image, concert and artist advertisements. The contents page lists images and page numbers for inside articles, includes an editor's letter and charts, and the website. The article layout has one large image on the right, a title and subtitle, and a question and answer interview in columns on the left along with the page number and website. Conventions from other magazines like Vibe and NME were considered but with some personal stylistic choices.
1. Forms and conventions of my front cover
My media product develops Itself from the front cover ,
contents page to the article , It uses simular colors and
font so you can see It is all part of one music magazine. I
have tried to make the genre of my music magazine clear
so that the audience can automatically tell what kind of
magazine you are reading. In my Front cover I have used
important forms and conventions like the barcode at the
bottom of the magazine cover , all magazine usually have
this at the front and some may have it at the back. I have
also one main big image on my cover , RnB music
magazines ususally tend to have one big pictures and
sometimes may have smaller pictures but in this case I
have just used one main image for the audience to focus
on. On the front cover I have included concerts , special
RnB artists and advertised New RnB music as much as
possible.
2. Forms and conventions of my contents page
The forms and conventions of my contents page are
having images that will be inside the magazine on the
contents page with the page numbers. I have the
editors letter on the right hand side of the contents
page with a small image and on the left hand side I
have two columns showing the top charts this week in
the RnB Industry and also information you can find
inside the magazine such as prizes/merchandise to be
won. I have the website at the bottom of the contents
page on the right hand side. The contents page uses
the same colors and type fonts as the front cover so
you can see that the two are linked together. I have
also done this for my article.
3. Forms and conventions of my Article
The Forms and Conventions of my Article are
having one main image on the page , In my
article I have used one large image on the right
hand side ,I have used one image as the
information on the page is an interview it
shows the readers which artist they are reading
about. I have the title being an eye catcher
almost like an advertisement for the readers
“New year New Music” and a sub-title telling
the audience what genre the magazine is , On
the left hand side I have 3 columns which is a
question and answer Interview with the chosen
artist. The website is at the bottom of the page
on the left hand side and I have a quote within
the image to catch the readers attention. I also
have the page number at the bottom the page
on the right hand side.
4. what conventions have you followed?
And what layout ideas have you seen elsewhere and
developed in your own style?
I have used conventions of a normal magazine , things like barcode ,
page numbers , titles and images all types of magazines have but I have
looked at the RnB music magazine called vibe and have gathered ideas
from there , In the music magazine vibe they usually have one main
image and text on the picture. I have also looked at NME magazine and
have used the layout from there as ideas for my front cover. I have
looked at vibe contents pages and articles and also another RnB Music
magazine called Billboard , these are very simular so I have looked at the
colors , they tend to use dark colors and then one main bright colors
which I have done in my work , I have used red and black as my main
colors and also I have used white for any text as it will stand out against
the background.
5. Have you deliberately broken a
convention & why did you do it?
I have used the simple conventions for a music magazine , I have followed the
conventions for an every day life magazine by using things like images , background / (1-
2) colors and a title for the magazine. I look at the RnB magazine vibe and have used this
as a layout for the front cover of my own , I used one big image to fill the page as the
centre , A heading and sub-heading and then I have added things into my work that I
think would benefit it. In my Contents page I have added an editors letter which you
don’t see in all music magazines and sometimes in normal magazines.
