The South America Soil Partnership held various workshops and meetings between 2018-2019 to advance their goals in five pillars: sustainable soil management, soil awareness and education, soil research, digital soil mapping, and soil analysis laboratories. Key activities included workshops on digital mapping in Colombia, presentation of a soil information system in Colombia, adoption of partnership rules and procedures in Colombia, subregional workshops on mapping in Bolivia and soil information systems in Mexico, and merging the South American and Central American/Mexico/Caribbean partnerships in Ecuador. Progress was also made under each pillar, such as compiling sustainable soil management initiatives, developing education programs, conducting soil research, adding soil profiles to an online database, and harmonizing soil analysis protocols between Latin

2. Main activities of the SASP 2018-2019
2018
• July 3 to 7, a workshop in digital mapping was
held in Bogota, Colombia.
• July 9, the regional workshop on "The use of soil
data for decision making and planning in Latin
America: presentation of the soil information
system (SISLAC)", was held* in Bogota, Colombia.
*The workshop was part of the cooperation project "TCP/RLA/3613: Development of capacities
in soil information for the sustainable management of natural resources in the countries of
South America”.

3. 2018
• July 10, the fifth meeting of the SASP was held,
in Bogota, Colombia:
• Adoption of the "Rules of Procedure" of the SASP:
definition of the functions of the components of the
Partnership (presidency, vice-presidency, regional
pillars and secretariat) and the procedures for
decision-making.
•December 11, an extraordinary meeting of the
SASP was held, via videoconference, where the
progress under the regional pillars was presented
and ideas for regional projects to be submitted
for international funding, were exchanged.

4. 2019
• January 14 to 18, Subregional Workshop on
Digital Mapping and Soil Information Systems
in La Paz, Bolivia.
• March 11 to 15, the second meeting of the
Latin American Network of Soil Laboratories
was held in Mexico City, Mexico.
• On May 20, the Regional Workshop on: "Use
of the tools of the Global Soil Partnership for
informed decision-making and the sustainable
land management in Latin America and the
Caribbean" was held in Quito, Ecuador.

5. 2019
• On May 21, the closure of project
“TCP/RLA/3613: Development of capacities in
soil information for the sustainable
management of natural resources in the
countries of South America” took place in
Quito, Ecuador.
• On May 22, the Sixth Meeting of the SASP was
held, in Quito, Ecuador, where it was decided
that the South American and the Central
American, Mexico and the Caribbean Soil
Partnerships would merge.
