- 9. Decisions from the Side Event 1. Discuss outcomes of a comprehensive review of successes, lessons learned, challenges and new opportunities to feed into post-2015 strategies, which will be carried out and disseminated by relevant interest partners 2. Update the 2006 Abuja Declaration by widening it to exploit its link with sustainable soil management and propose strategies to be in place in Africa by 2030 in line with the SDGs and Malabo Implementation Strategy and Road Map. Proposed that a high level meeting be convened by interested partners to:

- 14. Challenges • Consolidate the African Partnership by executing the African Implementation Plan: advocacy and awareness raising is important. • Resource mobilization for full implementation of activities. I make a plea to resource partners to support us as the momentum and needs are evident.

Editor's Notes
- Through electronic consultations, AfSP elected Prof Victor Chude as the Vice Chairperson for the next GSP Plenary period. Members of the AfSP Steering Committee and Pillar Chairs in close consultation with a consultant completed the formulation of the final AfSP Implementation Plan which has since been submitted to the GSP Secretariat. AfSP focal persons contributed relevant Soil Management articles on country basis to the 2015 Special edition of Nature and Faune - an FAO Africa Regional Office Journal. This is an aspect of knowledge sharing with the International readership.
- National Soil Science Societies of AfSP member countries organized seminars , workshops and conferences to celebrate the International Year of Soils and the 2015 World Soil Day. During the Africa Regional Conference, the Chair of AfSP, Prof. V. O. Chude, facilitated the side event on High Level Discussion with a focus on “Follow-up to the 2006 Abuja Declaration on Fertilizers for an African Green Revolution” at the 29th Session of the African Regional Conference of the FAO in Abidjan, 6th April, 2016.
- The side event proposed that a high level meeting be convened by interested partners to: Discuss the outcome of a comprehensive review of successes , lessons learned, challenges and new opportunities to feed into post 2015 strategies, which will be carried out and disseminated by relevant interest partners Update the 2006 Abuja Declaration by widening it to exploit its link with sustainable soil management and propose strategies to be in place in Africa by 2030 in line with the SDGs and Malabo Implementation Strategy and Road Map.
