This image is a midshot of the protagonist ,
standing straight looking directly at camera with a
very dark look this reveals his authority and
power but also we can see that has two different
eyes which can show that there is something else
inside of him and he is trapped being controlled.
It can also reveals that he is disguised as
something else so can't be trusted . It could
reflect evil or that there is two different sides to
him is goodness or there is darkness within him.
The child looks deceitful and harmful, which
subverts as children are innocent and pure.
The house is in the background reveals that the
setting will be based in a house. He is wearing
casual clothing and his hair is neat which can
reveal that he is from a good and ordinary family
who care about him. The dark shadow is covering
him more than the house revealing that the
house isn’t evil but it's the boy or something
within the boy so could be possessed. Houses
symbolise safety and security however nowhere
is safe .The use of low key lighting gives it
supernatural look and reveals the genre but adds
element of danger, tension and suspense.
The title is located at the bottom half of the poster
and is going at a vertical angle to revels who is the
danger is the danger it is the includes the biggest
font so it is visible. The colours used within reflect
the film genre as well as connotations of blood or
anger or something evil that could be growing
inside him.
The release date which is usually at the bottom of a poster
is mentioned this makes the audience anticipate the film. it
will be in theatres April 1st, this section is in a different
colour so it is visible and it states it will be “everywhere”
suggesting if you don't watch it you'll be left and so makes
the audience eager. This also gives the audience time to see
the trailer make a judgement.
The main colours used where white, red and blue. The
blue can contain a spiritual meaning but these primary
colours can reflect a very childlike feeling of innocence
but it's mainly covered in black so he is having this
stripped away.
Its close in order to his pale and lifeless expression
which can suggest he is slowly dying and the darkness
around his eyes reflects that the inside if him is filling
with darkness. It is clear it will be set in a house this is
typical of a horror movie but the darkness clouds above
it could represent secrecy and something unsafe.
The credits are there for additional information like
the cast and crew, it also informs viewers that this is
made by same people that created “Saw” and
“Paranormal Activity”, this encourage audience to
watch it.

The title is located at the bottom of the poster
and is in the biggest font and the only text with
red font colour which can symbolise thirst as the
creature desires for it to be dark so it can pursue
someone. It can also represent decay as the tile
looks foggy and partly faded this helps reflects
genre and its type as a supernatural horror.
Tagline:
This gives meaning to the poster informing the
audience slightly of the plot and allows them to
ask questions of there own like “why would you
want to be in darkness?”, these questions create
fear in the mind of the reader as it can relate to
them.
This refers to other films of the director, the fact that they
don’t name them suggest they are well known as they have
created popular films like “Paranormal Activity” this form of
advertisement makes it more likely that the audience will
watch it as the know it will be scary. The poster states that is
a James Wan film, he is a director, screenwriter and film
producer and is widely known director of “Saw” this means
people that know his work will watch it as they know he
produces good movies, he is named showing that he is
popular.

The image has a completely black background with a
dark and vicious looking person who is holding a
candle to there face which is covered in a white veil
this positioning reveals that it has power and
authority as it can create darkness at anytime so
shows elements of control. The low key lighting adds
mystery and uncertainty as they only light is coming
from the candle. The use of white makeup on the
face and black around the eyes is to represent
darkness as eyes reflect the soul but she has no soul
or heart, but is filled with darkness and evil and her
lips are filled with evil, the white brings out the dark
features and shows a level of decay so she is dead
and so can be a ghost.
Colours:
The contrasting colours of white and black show the
darkness is overshadowing the light and soon it will become
dark and so this could reveal that there time is running out.
The white can represent innocence as the image is wearing a
veil this could be represented as pure but it's actually a
disguise. The red could be a symbol of danger but also desire
to gain something or someone. The text have a smoky effect
as if a candle has been blown out which could reveal that
something hidden and the characters are not aware of it
until the smoke clears.
