1. Mission Statement
INDEPENDENT is a new magazine that will celebrate Indie Rock music. This magazine will
have a collaboration of the two genres. The name has been chosen because it represents
what the meaning of Indie Rock is and the name helps the audience to visual the
represented genre and it’s lifestyle that’s links to the genre. This magazine will be
distributed monthly; it will be available at supermarkets, Newsagents and even music
stores. INDEPENDENT will be available via a subscription plan online or in store for the more
reliable readers. This means monthly the readers signed up to this subscription plan will get
INDEPNDENT sent to them monthly when the new issue is released and the money will be
taken from their account for each issue.
I am aiming the expense of my magazine to be around £3.99. This is a reasonable and
affordable amount and I will make sure the magazine is worth the money paid. I am
planning to include competitions, posters, festival/ gig information, album ratings and
interviews with popular artists specifically in this genre of Indie Rock and general music
news related to the chosen genre. The biggest promised outcome of this magazine is that
each month the readers will read new information that they didn’t know about their
favoured and most popular artists and they will be entertained and enjoy by the new
magazine ‘INDEPENDENT’.
My magazine will have very strong thoughts/beliefs/attitudes that it will follow. For example
INDEPENDENT believes that music should be celebrated and that Indie Rock music should be
given the recognition that it deserves. At the same time we think that Indi Rock should
remain independent and ‘all about the music’ and should not be tainted by the image
obsessed materialistic nature of the music industry.
The style of the magazine will be suited for the specific genre chosen. For example it will be
youthful and modern looking. This will be done by using vibrant colours, bold font styles and
appropriate/suitable images. What I mean be this is relating the image affects to the genre
chosen. This would be done by using appropriate props such as guitars; drum sticks etc. the
positioning of the artists in the images, their costumes and the ‘backdrop’ they are
presented in. The layout of the magazine will have a fair balance of images to text; this has
been decided so that the magazine is aesthetically pleasing and suits the style of the genre.
For example if the magazine was full of pictures and little text there could be a sense that
it’s a pop magazine. All these little features make the magazines brand identity and help to
make the genre seen through the deign details.
My readers will be of both genders that are interested in Indie Rock and its life style. The
target audience will be sociable and independent people that have strong views and
opinions. Overall, the target audience will be wild and youthful males and females. I believe
the style of the magazine needs to be like the target audiences style. For example, the
magazine should look rugged, independent, dark and rebellious.
