Question 2
1. HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCT REPRESENT
PARTICULAR SOCIAL
GROUPS?
BY EMMA DUFFIELD
2. COSTUME
The white jeans represent
innocence, however I subverted this
representation as the female
character was the villain. This
ensured that my film opening didn’t
give any hints to the audience
Casual clothing, which
ensures my film opening is
relatable to the audience,
as this is stereotypically
the clothing that my target
audience would wear. This
includes affordable
clothing, with no designer
label.
Costumes chosen are casual
that an average person
would wear.
3. LOCATION
I chose the location of a
forest as this creates
mystery for my target
audience. This therefore
didn’t give any hints to
my audience to the
narrative of my film
opening.
It is conventional for the
romance genre to include
beautiful scenery, I therefore
conformed with this
convention and included a
range of location shots.
I included many location shots
in order to present the setting
to my audience.
4. REPRESENTATION OF PORTUGUESE
I included subtitles within my
film opening as my
Portuguese character spoke
his home language, and the
female character also spoke
Portuguese to denote to the
audience that she was leading
a double life.
I included a low angle shot of the
Portuguese character and the
female to conform with the
stereotype that Caucasians are
more superior in comparison with
other races. I included a drastic change of
non diegetic soundtrack when
the Portuguese character was
shown within my film opening.
This denoted that he was
untrustworthy and has no
respect for the females existing
boyfriend.
